The Hangout is one of the best breakfast spots we've had in the area! The flavors are unique in that it's like a fusion of Japanese, Hawaiian and American flavors. The loco moco was especially delicious in that the gravy was actually Japanese curry. The fried chicken was extra crispy with karaage flavors. Their bloody Mary was pretty tasty as well. Definitely will be back!

Came to The Hangout for the first time and had a fantastic experience! 😋 The location is great, and the restaurant itself is spacious and inviting. The service was attentive and helpful throughout our visit. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, which was absolutely delicious—the crispy potatoes on the side were perfection. 🥚🍳 Others at the table had the salmon avocado toast and the Gai Graw Prow, both of which were packed with flavor. I’ll definitely be ordering the Gai Graw Prow next time! 🥑🐟 We also tried the lattes. While the flavor didn’t wow me, the presentation was stunning and added a nice touch to the overall experience. ☕✨ I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

First time here and not sure how we missed this! We had to wait in line and it was absolutely worth it - I like being able to put your name in and get a text. The food may seem pricey but it's worth it for the quality and amount you get. We had to get a box because we were all stuffed! We tried the hangover, the fried chicken eggs benedict, vanilla latte, iced caramel macchiato and a side of fries. 5/5 on every item. Hangover may have been a bit spicy if you're sensitive to that! We will be back!

I had been wanting to try this place because many people had recommended it. I'm so glad I finally did! The restaurant is located inside a shopping center with plenty of parking. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Most tables are small and very close to each other but that didn't bother us at all. The staff is very friendly and our food was just amazing!!! We tried one of the omelettes, the poached eggs and had coffee (which was also really good). We kept seeing everyone else's plates and everything looked so good! We will be back for sure 😊

Amazing breakfast and brunch place. High quality of ingredients. Prices are high here but they don’t skimp on quality. Recommend the burgers and the French toast is really delicious. The toppings are fun, crunchy on the exterior and soft and sweet in the interior.

Great brunch! Was impressed with how much patrons on a Monday that we went. Great service, you almost wouldn't have to wait. Nice atmosphere vibe & the food & drinks are great + thought our presentations!

Absolutely 5 stars. In fact, I made a reservation for a seat outside in advance, but they seem to have forgotten. However it doesn’t matter. The brunch that day was the best. All the food we ordered was really delicious. I wish the seat was a little bit wider.

I usually get a standard American breakfast at restaurants like this but I’m glad I got their specialities. The katsu curry and the chicken benedict were delicious. The chicken was cooked very well. Honestly for a non Japanese restaurant to cook good Japanese curry I am impressed. The curry was slightly thin but this is an American breakfast restaurant so I can’t judge too harshly.

I have visited this brunch spot 3x now and every time it’s been an excellent experience. Ive had their breakfast sausage scramble, chicken and waffles and fried chicken Benedict. From everything I’ve tried the fried chicken Benedict is my absolute favorite dish on the menu. It’s honestly the best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had in the Bay Area. Only downside to this place can be the wait time if you go during peak hours - sometimes the wait can be as long as 40min, but if you plan accordingly you can get seated fairly quickly in about 20min or so. Also they do bottomless mimosa’s here!

I LOVEEE THIS PLACE! The best Eggs Benedict’s ever! I got the crispy chicken Benedict and it was delicious with the potatoes. Excellent customer service. I highly recommend coming to this place. The seasoning and sauce they add to the dish is tasteful.

This is a great place to meet friends/fam and catch a GENEROUSLY portioned brunch. The staff are truly lovely and patient with questions. It may be a bit loud for some folks. But really, with food this yummy, why are y'all still talking?! 🤭 The curry/gravy that is used in some dishes has a great, rich flavor and I look forward to trying the poutine. If you're particular about such things, ask for a taste of it first. Some may find the flour used to be a bit pronounced. I had the crispy chicken and waffle 🤤 Crispy, boneless chicken thighs 🥹 on a beautifully buttered Belgian waffle. I didn't find the syrup to be spicy, but the Tabasco on the table solved that. Took discipline not to finish it 😉 and send myself into a food coma.

Opening time on a Monday with a party of 5 is the perfect time to come. The small-ish restaurant didn't take long to become completely full. They are renovating their outside dining area, so I'm sure the wait right now would be longer since inside tables are minimal. Ordering was easy, but the hard part is deciding which dish to try. Crispy Chicken Benedict was my first choice on my first visit. So good! Crispy, tasty, perfectly breaded chicken, on a bed of cherry tomatoes, red bell peppers, and onions was perfect! The potatoes are delish too! Such huge portions, most of us took half our meals home for later! 😉 The coffee was super strong but very good! $4 for a poured, brewed coffee seems a bit much, but I guess considering the area and being in contra costa makes for an expensive cup. Next time, I want to try the Thai tea espresso. The only downside is probably the price, but I'll try it all at least once! Parking is easy on a weekday. I imagine the weekends are quite busy, but it's in a huge shopping center, so it shouldn't be an issue. Service was good. My coffee cup was never empty. Getting boxes, the check, etc was smooth. No issues. Just a heads up, they charge gratuity apparently for parties of 5 and more. I guess that makes some sense since we would be taking up half the table seating inside since the inside seating area is minimal. I recommend giving this place a try! I'm glad the restaurant still lives up to the good reviews I read before coming. We will definitely be back! Also, I got to try their bacon jam from someone else in my party! Highly recommend to put that on anything!

Busy with a 20 min wait when we arrived at 930am on a Sunday, so not too bad. Limited seating indoor and outdoor. Prices were fair for food and bottomless mimosas, so I appreciate that. Food came out timely enough for how busy they were and it was all HOT, and beautifully plated. Service was attentive and friendly. They even threw in a bday treat and song for my niece! Will definitely return.

Pricey but the portions are huge! Went for brunch with a group of 4 and only had to wait about 15min during their busy hour. Food was flavorful and well plated. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, but it is a little tight. Overall, I enjoyed my visit

This place is a gem. Good was great, but above all customer service was out of this world. Everyone was warm and friendly. We had such a nice time enjoying excellent meals. We will definitely be back soon!

Ugh this place is so good. Service is great, indoor and out door seating, and have loved everything we tried. - The turmeric latte is tasty - the eggs Benedict we tried were good - Stuffed French toast good but HUGE portion, a bit to much my husband couldn’t even finish it which is saying something - chicken and waffles appetizer was good, but we wished it was served with syrup However the star of the show (for me personally) are the lemon pancakes. The pancakes are nice and fluffy with a slightly crispy crust, and that lemon sauce is to die for. My favorite part about it is that it isn’t super sweet, just the perfect mix of lemon and sweetness. We will definitely be back!!

Came here Thursday morning with my girlfriend, we chose to be seated inside because it was a hot morning. AC was blowing cold and we were hungry. I ordered the Hangout Omelette and my girlfriend ordered the Loco Moco. Both were delicious the moment they served us the plates. The crispy potatoes were cooked right and the omelette with the candied bacon bits on top made it perfect. The Loco Moco mixed in was really good. For our drinks, I got the Iced Matcha Latte and my girlfriend ordered the Ube latte mixed in with coffee. Nothing too special for matcha, but still good and the Ube coffee was strong. Few sips I know you’ll be awake. I really enjoyed the food and drinks. Yes I would come back again.

Great bloody Mary (I was a little disappointed they didn't have whiskey for a Bloody Bell). I had the Crispy Chicken and Waffles, and it was enough chicken for two meals. Generous portions. The service was pretty good, no issues! The atmosphere was "hole in the wall." There was nothing wrong with it, but the tent outside was nice. I would absolutely go back and this will likely be a staple when I am in the area. Highly recommend, and love the asian fusion influence on things.

This food was off the chart. I had the seafood omelette with shrimp, crab and salmon. My gosh, it was packed with flavor and just the right amount of portions in the omelet. It was a little crowded and noisy so don't go there if you are looking for a quiet place but the food and service is awesome. You won't be disappointed for sure.

Great menu selections! I had the Sausage Benedict and my wife had the Berry Lovers French Toast. Very good. Good, strong coffee. A bit loud for my preferences, but that was mostly due to one woman who was described by someone as bring "passionate"! :-). A little spendy for breakfast, but that's the world we live in now.

Delicious food, friendly service, unique menu options. The line was very long, we waited about 40 minutes to get in. (And they actually never came out to grab us, about 10 minutes after we saw that a table had been cleared for a group our size, we had to send someone in to check on it, and they seated us immediately.) But that's on account of the food being so good, and the restaurant being so small.

This is a really great breakfast/brunch restaurant. Wide variety of tasty menu selections and beverages. Good value. The staff is hard working, friendly and service is generally fast. There is usually plenty of parking. Maybe a short wait for a table during busy times.

Went here on a Saturday at noon, with a party of 2. Had tried going once in the past with 4 people but was put off by the wait time. We were fine with being seated at the bar, and got seated pretty fast. Fun drinks (ube espresso & Thai tea espresso), and a varied menu! It was super good, servers were attentive. Genuinely the only bad aspect of this place is a potential wait but it’s busy for a reason.

Long wait time on a Sunday. Delicious food. High prices. Delicious coffee drink. Suspicious lumps at the bottom of the coffee. Overall a good experience. I think there are no good seats, not that I could tell. Seats are right next to other customers, but at least when I was there is was not super noisy. They stopped filling my water after a while. I think they wanted me to leave. I was finishing my coffee. Then I saw the clumps at the bottom, I’m not sure what it was so then I decided yep it was time to leave 😊

Very cute place. Get there early, or there might be a little wait. The wait is worth it. The fried chicken sandwich is massive. We also ordered the fried chicken Benedict and the chicken pops. !!! Amazing Benedict's !!!! First time we went we loved their Benedict so much that we thought of revisiting soon... Cozy little place, favorite among the locals & ample parking space ... We tasted the below items during our both visits- Avocado Toast - Strawberries, basil, and fresh mozzarella. Farmer Scramble - added eggs too - Tofu, baby kale, onion, mushroom, tomato and bell pepper. Sausage Benedict - CK apple sausage, bell, onion, and spicy hollandaise. Anything u take u will love it , we love their food quality & taste. Very friendly service & good vibe... good selection of music while enjoying the food. They have opened one more location in Walnut Creek so do check them out soon.

Came on a Sunday about 9am with no reservation and were seated within minutes. We ordered the avocado toast scramble, Sunrise French toast, crispy chicken Benedict and 2 eggs with 3 bacon. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Extra shot-out to crispy potatoes as they were really good. Coffee was decent and complimentary water at table was nice. Price was a little steep but doesn't break your wallet. Will definitely come back to try more.

I've been watching a lot of animal documentaries. It's pretty wild to see what some animals will do to find a partner. This one bird will clean a section of the forest floor. Every time a leaf falls in his section, he freaks out. He flys over to the leaf and picks it up with his mouth to clear it out of his territory. His designated space has to be absolutely spotless so that if a lady bird is impressed, she'll fly over to check out his spot. The male bird isn't done yet though. He then dances for her. He performs this dance in his new clean territory and if the lady bird is impressed, they'll mate. Talk about true love. It made me think, what do I have to offer a potential mate? I'm not that clean and I'm not the best dancer. So when I was on a date at the Hangout, I tried to think of other ways I could impress my date. When our pancakes came out, they had blueberries on top of them. I've always been really good at throwing blueberries high in the air and then catching them in my mouth. So I started doing this in hopes of impressing my date. Maybe it would show her that I have good hand-eyed coordination...or mouth-eyed coordination? It'd also display that I'm a healthy eater. Those are some valuable traits to pass down to a potential offspring. She tried to throw some blueberries in her mouth, but sucked. So clearly my genes had something to offer where her genes were lacking. Or maybe her brain was telling her, why would anyone want to practice such a useless skill -- I've put in a lot of hours. Anyway, I don't know how impressed she was by my blueberry catching abilities, but I enjoyed my time here. The food was delicious too.

Great food. Pricey, but worth it. Plenty of parking even on busy days, and most days are busy. Always packed with a line out the door so you know it’s good. Get on that waitlist early or it’s easily an hour long wait without a reservation. It’s got indoor and outdoor seating which is pretty cramped. As average build 5’10 guy, trying to squeeze into booths or between tables was a struggle. Definitely not fat or disability friendly. Plenty of food options: vegetarian (Vegan options seemed limited), dairy free, etc. Most dishes are photoworthy, but don’t let the bland presentation of some dishes like the Hangout Omelet fool you, it’s just as delicious as everything else. Overall it’s one of the best brunch/lunch spots in Pleasant Hill.

C

Food was good, but I won't be coming back.. Came in the early afternoon to order a late breakfast.. I was hoping to get an omelette with hash browns crispy and sourdough toast. They do have omelets, put the selection is small and they do NOT serve hash browns.. My favorite toast is sourdough and they don't serve that either! I'm shocked that a breakfast restaurant in the Bay area does not serve sourdough toast 😕.. so for those two reasons I won't be coming back! The food was good and you can definitely tell it was homemade!

My husband and I came on a Monday around 10ish. We were seated right away. The restaurant is a bit small, so if you come on a weekend, you can expect a wait. We ordered an omelette and French toast. Everything was amazing! I was a little unsure about basil in an omelette, but it was delicious! The country potatoes were nice and crispy! & the french toast was cooked perfectly! As we were dining, we saw all the food that other people ordered that looked just as amazing and can’t wait to come back and try other things. As for the service, it was great. The servers were very nice & attentive & our food came out rather quickly. For what we ordered, I’d say the portions are average. It is a little pricey for breakfast ($27 for French toast with fruit, two eggs & 3 pieces of bacon, $22 for an omelette, country potatoes & toast) . But I’d definitely come back though.

Let’s get right to it! So they’re open only during brunch hours (8:00a - 3:00p). Food: very good! Tasty and large portions. But I have to say, it is a bit pricey. Most notable dish is the chicken and waffles. Service: Fast and friendly. Never had an empty glass of water or coffee. Ambiance: it’s a bit cramped inside, but it’s cute. There also outside dining which adds a few more tables. And it’s decorated beautifully with flowers. The restaurant is located in a shopping center so parking is not a problem. If you don’t reserve a table be prepared to wait. Just saying.

J

Solid brunch spot. Food was good, huge portions, and the option for bottomless mimosas. They have some good vegetarian options including an impossible patty. No reservations allowed, but you add your name to the check in list. Took about 30 minutes to get seated for a group of 4 (we arrived at 11am and were seated just after 11:30). We were seated in an outdoor tent that was a bit hot from the sun (no ventilation). Friendly servers and they were definitely busy. Were prompt on refilling mimosas though! Would return.

There's a reason everyone has the same pictures of the same food here. The chicken and waffles are very photogenic. That said, the portion size is good. Chicken is tasty. I will say that the batter is slightly excessive. The pancake at $6 for a single one is basically outrageous, fortunately it was at least a good pancake. Slightly chewy if you like that. Fluffy. Place is obviously not inexpensive, but these days nothing seems to be.

Stopped in for lunch with the family of 14. We were seated and didn't wait long to get our food. The food was as described in the menu. I enjoyed the chicken waffle bites. I had the Hangout as my meal. It was pretty good no complaints.

Food was fresh, it was very appetizing to the eye. Ordered the waffles and chicken, loco moco and the simply waffles. The waffles were OK, nothing special. Loco moco was just alright. My daughter loved the fried chicken but said her waffles were too soggy. For 3 dishes and 2 drinks we paid $85, crazy. From the reviews I was expecting something special.

I'm not sure why there's so much hype about this place. It's a regular brunch spot with upscale prices and pleasant service. The food leans towards greasy and deep-fried, with limited healthy options—only three salads. Most dishes, including the new noodles and shrimp not yet on the menu, are very oily and heavy. The inside seating is cramped, and the outside patio looks rundown. The service is the only highlight, but due to the poor menu, there's little to impress or attract new customers. Overall, there are better places out there for your brunch experience.

Had high hopes. Not clear at all why there are any good reviews. This was without a doubt the WORST food I have EVER been served. Ordered eggs benedict Florentine. I am an egg Benedict lover and I have no clue what was in there hollandaise it tasted Rancid, the eggs were most definitely off, not locally sourced like they claim on their web page. I have never ever in my entire 60 years on the face of this planet sent a meal back. I sent it back I literally could not eat it it was horrible. Ordered the chicken and waffles because I was not going to do anything with eggs after that experience, and it was equally as bad. I was served would definitely didn't appear to be or taste like a homemade from scratch waffle it was soggy, it was piled on top with three pieces of chicken, with a knife through it and a piece of Rosemary sticking out the top it was bizarre. I took a few bites of that and we'll take the rest home to a child that will eat anything. There was only one redeeming quality and that was the wait staff was nice and understanding, and the potatoes were good. Other than that good riddance to bad food highly recommend not patronizing. I know nobody from my family will go there ever again.
