There were four members in our party. We went on a weekday evening with reservations for 7. This was my first visit but others in our party have eaten here often. We were seated promptly and service was excellent. They have an extensive (not to mention over-priced) wine list. Apparently, well-heeled customers actually buy their wine here by the case!! I was driving so didn't imbibe but still our drink bill was higher than the food bill!! The food dishes were beautifully presented. Everyone loved what they ordered. My only criticism is the noise level. Restauranters are like sheep - so many have installed hard reflective services and removed soft furnishings. Their theory is that a noisy restaurant implies success. Given the high prices, I expected a more refined, quiet clientele. So many people seemed to be talking loudly to be heard over other people also talking loudly. Certainly, doesn't happen in Paris and being European I find it annoying.
We went to JJs last night. This place is off the charts delicious! I was going to cancel my reservation when I read some bad reviews on here. All I can say is I’m so glad we went. I ordered the chef special Sea Bass it melted in my mouth the sauce was amazing. A little pricey at $65 but so worth it. My husband had the Coquille St Jacques that he loved. The mussels were delicious you couldn’t stop soaking the French bread in the sauce. There was a google review where the person gave this place a one star because they thought the wine was over priced which couldn’t be further from the truth. They had my favorite wine in their wine store for $70. Costco sells it for $70 how is that over priced. If you want box wine and a burger I suggest that person goes to their local pub not JJ’s. The deserts were unbelievable. The waiter suggested the strawberry cake and I thought I died and went to heaven it was so good light fluffy and amazing! My husband opted for the coconut cream pie which he loved. We will definitely be back.
After leaving our home in Paris 26 years ago, we have found just a small handful of restaurants that truly capture the essence of the French dining experience. We love Jj’s Liberty Bistro for their friendly and attentive service (Grace and Joyce), authentic atmosphere, extensive wine list (with a fantastic Sommelier Matt at the helm), Chef Oscar’s creative delicacies, the grandest dessert showcase in Jacksonville, and of course, there to welcome you in, JJ himself. Thanks to JJ for attempting to shake the rust off of my French - I will continue to practice as we plan to return time and again. A perfect date night in a cosy, warm and classic Ponte Vedra establishment - bravo et salut!! 🍷 — at Jj's Liberty Bistro.
Love JJ's. Recently I asked to be educated on cavier, and JJ gave me and my guest a 4 course tasting with wine paring. Excellent! Amazing experience
Spectacular lunch, amazing service, customized meal when I made a particular request. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. The food really is on point, and the wine pairing when I asked for one was a solid match.
This place is absolutely amazing! JJ is very knowledgeable on wine; desserts were delicious. Our server, Grace, was nothing short of amazing herself..)). Do yourself a favor and come get some great food with a very warm and welcoming staff.
Lovely leisurely dining experience. Excellent pates with well balanced mustards; crepes du jour were delicious. The salad croutons were crispy bites of buttery decadence. We will definitely return.

Very quaint, attentive service, excellent food, enormous dessert list, superb French wine list. Not pretentious. Not loud, easy to have a conversation. Highly recommend.
Had lunch here today. Great food and service. Was out of chicken salad, bummer. Lovely day to eat on the patio. Few customers upset about wait time for food. Remember folks, we are still in a pandemic and all that comes with it. Businesses short staffed and longer wait times. Pack your patience, relax, and try to enjoy your dining experience. Thankfully they are still open.
We love JJ's! Every special event we have has something amazing ordered and it is always of the very best quality. Much appreciated, highly recommend!!!
Why go anywhere else in Ponte Vedra?? Consistently delicious food and great service. JJ knows everything about wine and will have a bottle or 50 you can't live without! There's a small selection of French and gourmet /wine inspired giftware if you need to pick up a thoughtful or unique gift for someone (or yourself)! I enjoyed the outdoor seating (shaded) but live the casual classic French interior as well. Sometimes we just pick up baguettes, pate', cheese and wine to go as our dinner. You just can't go wrong here. Also? There's an adjoining ice cream shop! If you want that with your huge selection of pastries! Keep an eye out for special wine dinners with are educational and delicious.
2nd time reviewing for the BEST meal. No BEST EATING EXPERIENCE in Jax since moving here 15 years ago. For those complaining about the price. Boo on you - the food is brilliant and Jessica's service was impeccable. Including being able to answer EVERY question about French Cuisine that these novices threw at her. The food outrageous and the barista Matt (matt) was not only a help to Jessica but the latte was perfect. Be SURE to leave/make room for dessert and consider creating your own tasting plates by ordering lots of little choices and sharing it! Fabulous and we WILL be back!! Oh and PS - stop complaining and putting 1 star ratinfs about having to make reservations to ANY restaurant post-Covid, or any restaurant that says they are not starting dinner for you when you walk in at 15-20 minutes before closing time at 9pm when it is clearly stated that dinner is SERVED 5-7:30pm. Everything is obviously made from scratch with attention from the kitchen to every detail and is definitely not required to accommodate your inability to plan ahead for an amazing dining experience. Order a pizza or go to a local pubelse if you don't want to have the amazing experience that JJs offers. And no - I have never been there before and I don't know owners or anyone who works there. This is a review from a true foodie who knows this place should have NOTHING but 5 star reviews!!
Wonderful evening at JJ’s Ponte Vedra Beach location! We had visited the Bistro de Paris restaurant last year while visiting family and had an outstanding meal. Tonight did not disappoint! Our server Jordan called to adjust our reservation to ensure optimal seating and service… upon greeting us guided us through the extensive menu. Both the Lobster bisque and French onion gratin were wonderful beginnings to our meal! Our trio dined on Roasted Lamb Shank, Scallop and Shrimp Risotto and Coquille St Jacque which each were fabulous! The wine menu is extensive and provided a wonderful accompaniment to the meal. We ended with coffee and lucious dessert! Looking forward to our next visit! Bravo!
Amazing! I would give 10 stars ⭐️ if we could. 1st visit. Service, food, wine selection absolutely a treat. Can’t say enough wonderful things about this experience. See you soon.
We had an excellent dinner tonight at JJ’s Liberty Bistro. The entrees ( sea scallops and crab crusted sea bass special) were delicious. The house wine bordeaux was spot on and the desserts (coconut cake and blackberry tart) were a perfect ending to a special meal. The service was excellent as well. JJ’s Liberty Bistro is a gem in Ponte Vedra Beach and highly recommended.
This place is amazing. My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday luncheon and we had a great time!! The food was awesome and our server Grace was the best! This is a hidden gem in Ponte Vedra and I highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be back!
We absolutely love this place. Haven’t tried a dish I didn’t like and the desserts are the best around. My girlfriend cannot stay away from the eclairs ;) ;)
We dined at JJs tonight. I had the special Beef bourguignon and it was OUTSTANDING. My husband had the chicken cordon Bleu and said it was the best he’s ever had. The portions were generous. The service was spot on. Attentive and friendly but not intrusive. A delightful quiet dining experience. Can’t wait to go back!!
I went here with my dad it was the BEST restaurant I’ve been to ever. Kind staff, great food, delicious tiramisu. Amazing service. The baguettes were amazing. Will definitely come again. Very rich food. 10/10
Over 1500 bottles to choose from while you’re there. The food and the service are top notch here. Any of the staff can help you find the perfect pairing wine with your meal. Don’t forget dessert! They have a full time pastry chef that makes everything in house. One of our favorite family owned restaurants in Jacksonville!
My first time eating French cuisine and I was very impressed. Huge wine and dessert selection. All the food was amazing. Staff was five star. The owner was very professional and engaged with the customers. Everything you would want for a perfect date night. I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be back.
JJ has won numerous prestigious awards for the wine list over the years but the cuisine has stepped up a notch or three! Always staying authentically French, yet taking it to another level artistically. Last visit: braided and seated warmly as usual. First a brilliant wine recommendation. Second the pate' plate with crusty baguette and some freshly shucked oysters on the half shell. Third a beautiful soup and salad course. On to dinner...The duck leg cassoulet is to die for.. the Halibut special blew my wife's mind. And to finish the most unbelievable desserts with a dessert wine and espresso. I also enjoy their lunch French onion soup with crusty bread and cheese. I got to give it to JJ's Liberty bistro. You guys that keep doing what you're doing you're the secret jewel of ponte vedra!
Truly exceeded our expectations. We are new residents of Ponte Vedra, and Natives of NYC. Since relocating here several months ago we have been on a “Mission” to create our “Top Ten” food venues and have been “Sampling” a full spectrum of local cuisines. We wholeheartedly agree that JJ’s Liberty Bistro is “Our #1 Best of the Best”. Here’s why: 1: It was love at first site from the moment we walked in. A Wine & Dessert Mecca which visually and sensually causes one to salivate as we were lead to our table. 2: An environment conducive for Senior’s Communicating. Great acoustics, Comfortable Seating and Good Table Separation. 3: Professional & Courteous Long-Term Wait Staff, Amazing Full Dinner Menu, Extensive Dessert Choices, and Superb Wine Selection all complimented by “On-Site His & Her Caring Principals”. And Yes !!! The Food is Fantastic. JJ’s Liberty Bistro has been also added as #1 to our “Visitors Must Dine” list Respectfully, Alex & Roseanne Fecci
Fantastic wine selection and great atmosphere for a quick business lunch. The menu has a great balance of light snacks and heavier meals for a wide selection of dining options. Definitely will be coming back here!
Their desserts are out of this world! They have a very nice wine and cheese selection. We have recently had their trout entree, mussels and trio appetizer. All three were wonderful! I highly recommend this restaurant to dine on the patio or order for a take out lunch or dinner. If you’re in the mood for ice cream, they have that too!
Pete was a great waiter and gave me great recommendations. Had the tuna melt it was great! In love with the dessert menu and the carrot cake is phenomenal ! I will back soon.
Upscale lunch experience. Service was excellent and attentive. Server went above and beyond on an hourly item request. Nicely done and we’ll be back.
We are on vacation with our dog, and had lunch at JJ's Liberty Bistro. I had the risotto with scallops (excellent risotto and scallops perfectly seared), recommended by our waiter. My husband had the crab / avocado salad that was delicious. The restaurant has an extensive wine list, and the service was excellent. Enjoyed lunch on their patio, with our friendly dog. As soon as we sat, they brought a water dish for our dog, and welcomed her. The owner came to meet us and chatted with us for a while. Nice lunch! Will come back!
We came in a hurry unfortunately, we ordered the duck and lamb shank and it was superb! The wine was exquisite, from Oregon Pinot noir $80 and worth it! The atmosphere is quaint and cozy. We will absolutely come again and have dessert which we didn’t have time for. You have to try this little gem ♥️
Huge wine selection to indulge in house or buy a bottle to go. As you enter, the display case of desserts gets your mouth watering. Very friendly staff got us seated and orders right to our table. Also kept our drinks fresh and filled. The salad sandwiches are packed full of fresh ingredients and bright red tomato slices. The menu includes chef specials for the day. Today included Korean Spare Ribs. Included French fries and a big portion of broccolini. It was ok. Small thin slices that I could chew. Not great, but nothing unusual. Then I got the bill. $32 for those Korean slices. Still kicking myself for not asking the price.
Ordered Escargots, it comes with brie, pate, grapes and crostini. The escargots’s creamy sauce was really good but too salty for me, escargots itself were soft and well done. Also got onion soup, Boston cream pie and a chocolate eclair. The soup was okay, over salted and the cheese tasted kind of like a rubber. The bread with butter was soft and delicious! As per desserts everything was really good! The chocolate eclair is gigantic!
Unfortunately I had to send back my medium burger back as it came out well done. Déjà vu! Tasty burger otherwise.
Delicious food, amazing wine, and a wonderful atmosphere. Our server, Ben, was fantastic! A tad pricey ($250 for just two of us) and an additional $35 was added for gratuity without notice (again, there were only two of us), but otherwise a delightful experience.
I absolutely love the food here and the service is excellent!
6 of us ate there, everyone loved the flavor of the food. One person's fish was over cooked, thus dry. Dessert was very good.
Prompt and courteous service. Excellent wine list. The food was fresh, well-prepared and pleasing to the palate. The salad could have been fresher. The desserts were excellent as was the coffee. An expensive but very enjoyable experience. I would definitely return as a special outing.
I had not been to JJ's in a while and forgotten how good the food was (tenderloin, salmon and cobia) and the wine choices were excellent as well. The ambiance is also very nice. The only negative about our dining experience is that we felt rushed. It may have been that our waiter and others were so attentive that we felt rushed, but, that said, it is a great place for a lovely dining experience.
This was a repeat lunch visit for us, which suggests that we like it there. Both of our sandwiches were very good, although the french dip cheese and dip could have been a bit more robust in flavor. The roast beef in it was great--not fatty at all. The profiteroles were tasty. Fabulous inc cream and fudge sauce, although the puffs were a little too dry. Service is always excellent.
Definitely a place to probably go at night??? Very slow and boring atmosphere for lunch. It was clear that they were ready for us to leave.....food was great....menu items were tasty and different. Our server was amazing!
We went here for our anniversary, mentioned in the reservation. They never acknowledged it! It is in a srip mall but very pleasant and cozy inside. service was just OK; the waiter stayed lost most of the time, and the food was brought by others. They have a very extensive wine list, but were out of the one from Cotes du Rhone that I picked, which resulted in us choosing two French wines by the glass. The Chateaus were not identified for the single glasses, only the region, and the waiter did not know, or would not tell, who made them. They were quite ordinary. They were also out of the lamb shank that I picked from the menu. Both of these events were inexcusable for a GOOD restaurant. Now the food. Everything started out good with the appetizers. The Lobster bisque ($13) was delicious and the Parisian Trio ($16.00) of Sautéed Escargots, Brie, & Truffle Mousse Pate was excellent. That's where the good ended. For the main course my wife ordered the Duck leg Confit ($30): the duck was dry, and the substrate on which it lay sounded very good, but was insipid in taste. I ordered the Boulibase ($31): the shrimp were overcooked, the mussels were small, but tasty; the fish was pink salmon and the soup they were in tasted "clammy" even though there were no clams included. The main courses were a big disappointment. The desserts were excellent: I have never seen so many at a single establishment. They were presented on a large chalk-type board stood by the table. My wife had the Chocolate fudge cake, and I had the Blackberry ice cream tart. Both were $16 each. The final bill was $192.75. Considering the service, lack of menu items, unsavory main courses, and the price, I would not recommend this restaurant. It might be worth trying on another night because of the atmosphere, and maybe they can do better next time.
Not one star because the dessert and complimentary bread were good. That’s where the good ends. Let’s start at the beginning. Waiter asked my fiancé if she cared for any champagne. It was so casual of an ask that I thought there was chance it was complimentary or $6-7. Never did I imagine it would cost $17 for a single glass of house champagne. I ordered a coke. It was flat. I told the waiter. He brought another coke. It was flat. My buddy ordered a Diet Coke. It was also flat. Then came the cheese plate we ordered as an appetizer. Menu said it came condiments. There were none. No jam. No mustard. Not anything. Our friends got the French onion soup and lobster bisque. They were underwhelmed. For dinner, my buddy and I ordered the grilled beef tenderloin. I can’t stress this next sentence enough. It was the worst steak I’ve ever had. It wasn’t hot and it had a horrible aftertaste that I can only describe as tasting old. I didn’t want to make a big deal about it so I tried eating it. About half way through, I took a bite that was so gross tasting it sent me to the bathroom to spit it out. At that point, I did complain and they did comp it without me asking. Same with my buddy’s steak. After that, the dessert menu came out and being that the steak was taken care of, I ordered dessert. It was really good. My issue came with the waiter coming to take my signed receipt from my table and the restaurant partially turning off their lights at 9:15 pm. We felt they were rushing us out the door, which if they closed at 9pm would understandable. However, they close at 10pm. Overall, just a terrible dining experience.
For the price you pay, you’d expect hot food. We received our food and it was literally ice cold! How is the food cold after waiting 45min-1hr for it to be cooked. Also, our waiter (some man with black hair) had a horrible attitude and seemed to be very annoyed when we asked simple questions! All the other waiters were so sweet! Other than the environment was okay.
The french owner is incredibly rude. He tries to sell old (unsold) wine for a high price even though by now it’s just a bad wine. He acts like he knows about wine just because he has a french accent but he doesn’t know anything. He is just rude! STAY AWAY from this place if you are looking for a good wine and someone knowledgeable about it.
I want to hear to look around to see what I can maybe taste but the person in front I can assume that is the host was quite rude
While the service was excellent, the food was awful. The escargot was rubbery, the filet was chewy and not tender. The sides were overcooked potatoes and canned peas/carrots. Our guest meals equally underwhelming. The search for a good French restaurant continues.
Friends of ours took me and my son along with their 2 kids to pick out dessert after a lovely evening together. I quickly paid the $72 bill and added a $3 tip for a total of $75 for desert. My friend’s children had their macaroons together in one box. As the box was being handed to them, they both went to take the box and it ended up falling on the floor and the macaroons fell out. It was a bit of chaos picking them up but clearly they could not be eaten after falling on a floor that people walk on all day. Their parents reprimanded them but truly it was what’s called an ACCIDENT. It happens to all of us, humans. They were excited for their dessert and a mishap occurred. As soon as we asked them to pick out some more, the man behind the counter, with his incredible attitude said, this is all we have and made it clear they weren’t getting any more. He couldn’t even offer them one each. There had been 8 macaroons in the box that had fallen on the floor and went in the garbage, so basically more than half of the $75 order, could not be eaten. Our friends brought us there to introduce us to this bakery and bistro that we had never been to. I had just paid $75 for dessert and more than half went in the garbage. Not only did they lose us as new customers, they also lost this family of existing customers and probably anyone else we tell this story to. Of course when we got back to the house, my son insisted on the kid’s each having one of his 4 macaroons but they felt so bad, they wouldn’t take them. This man could have shown some kindness and empathy toward these kids but instead showed us what’s wrong in this world. His nasty attitude, truly from the minute we walked in, is what will make me NEVER patronize this place again.
Lack of strategy!!! JJ Bistro presents itself as a charming French establishment, but my recent dining experience revealed significant shortcomings in both food quality and overall presentation. Expectations ran high given its positioning as a bistro, yet the reality was disheartening, as the offerings seemed more akin to regular dinner fare than the refined cuisine one anticipates from a French restaurant. To start, I ordered the Escargots, which arrived without their shells and were disappointingly dry. They lacked the moisture one would expect from a well-prepared dish, resulting in a texture that was uncomfortably rubbery. This set a troubling tone for the rest of the meal. The main course, a crispy duck leg served on a white bean cassoulet with mushrooms, bacon, sausage, and truffled bread crumbs, was equally unimpressive. The duck itself was excessively fried, bordering on burnt, which completely compromised its inherent richness and left it devoid of flavor. The cassoulet failed to elevate the dish, rendering it bland and unremarkable. The wine list is another disappointment, with prices that are certainly overpriced. The restaurant offers little in the way of alternatives, forcing patrons to purchase expensive bottles to accompany their mediocre meals. This approach speaks to a troubling disconnect in the business model, as it seems the owner, who personally approaches tables to promote wines, lacks a fundamental understanding of how to pair quality food with suitable beverages. In conclusion, JJ Bistro needs substantial improvements across the board. Poor execution in the kitchen and a misguided wine strategy do not lend themselves to a memorable dining experience. Until significant changes are made, guests would be wise to seek out other establishments that take greater care in their culinary offerings and overall dining experience. P.S. The service was horrible; it took literally an hour to bring the entrees. And they certainly don’t fool me with the “CANNED” cannellini beans!
JJ the owner was rude and uninviting. He attempted to sell me extremely mediocre wine for an insane markup and charge an additional $30 corking fee for wine bought in his restaurant. He was unskilled in wine selection, thankfully his staff was skillful and was able to point me to a good selection. Service was amazing from both of our servers, but the appetizers were mediocre. Waited two hours for a rare steak, only to have it served well done. I asked for it to be recooked to have it served again well done on the outside and medium (ish) on the inside. Do not spend your money here. I would suggest the French pantry for actual French food. As context this was on Valentines Day and the restaurant was not busy.
We dined at JJ’s Bistro on December 31, 2026, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. My fiancé and I were never informed of the price of the entrée we ordered prior to ordering. Our server verbally listed and recommended the nightly specials, but did not disclose the price of the special we selected. The menu presented to us showed similar entrées priced around $48, so there was no indication that the recommended special was significantly higher. Only when the bill arrived did we discover that our entrées had been charged at $75 each. When we questioned this, staff claimed a dinner special applied for the entire evening, despite no disclosure anywhere prior to or during service. That lack of transparency is unacceptable. To make matters worse, a mandatory 20% gratuity was applied even though our party consisted of only two people, and this was also not disclosed in advance. The food itself did not justify the pricing. Our steak was not cooked to order, and overall the meal was underwhelming, especially for what ended up being a very expensive dinner. Between the undisclosed pricing, forced gratuity, and mediocre food quality, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. Transparency and communication were completely lacking, and we would not return based on this visit. JJ himself was extremely rude, unwelcoming, and dismissive when we said hello and entered the restaurant. Despite presenting the restaurant as a high-end French dining experience, the quality and service did not come close to matching that image. Having dined at Michelin-star restaurants around the world, I found both the food and overall experience to be mediocre at best. A quick look at how management responds to negative reviews online shows a consistent lack of accountability or responsibility toward customers, which speaks volumes about how issues are handled here. Edit now that the owner has responded: As you can clearly see, this restaurant takes no accountability for their mistakes. He didn’t even have the decency to apologize for my food not being cooked to order and my experience, not being pleasant. That alone shows a complete lack of a customer service mindset and basic respect. My fiancé and I both ordered our steak to be medium rare. My steak came completely cooked through, no pink at all. His steak came completely cooked through halfway and then pink on one side. Neither of them were properly cooked and truthfully, the food really wasn’t that great. Do yourself a favor and do not dine in here
