I thought the ambience for 4th of July weekend was great, the service (Antoninette) was friendly, but not spectacular. The 4 different entrees we had were good. The red snapper dip was a bit overcooked

Came out for a last minute Sunday brunch date and was able to be sat without a reservation. Our server was great and we loved the food she recommended. It had a very relaxing atmosphere, calm and quiet. I also tried the espresso martini and I was happy to see they use actual espresso shots, which is unfortunately not very common. Overall 10/10 would come again

What a great find! Tired of the same old fried food, overpriced drinks establishments, we were excited to find a place that offered upscale food, in a comfortable setting, at reasonable prices. We chose to dine outside, ordered the fish of the day (Redfish) which was prepared just perfectly, and also ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi tacos. Are service was exceptional and we loved how the chef didn't overseason and cover up the natural flavors of our fish. Simply Delicious and it was a simply beautiful evening. We'll definitely be back!

This place was amazing! We celebrated a birthday here and the staff were so accommodating and great! They food was on point, steaks were grilled to perfection, the fish and sides were nothing less than delicious. Kyler our waitresses is so amazing and easy to work with and attentive, she deserves a big raise. A very big Thank you to Ryan and his crew, truly top notch!

Our second time here and we decided this place is our favorite! I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the Mahi. Try the Lime in the Coconut drink! Wow! The atmosphere here is so pleasant. We really enjoy it. We highly recommend and will keep coming back.

This was our first time here. It was a great find for sure! We will definitely go back. We had the special: Grilled Redfish on dirty rice with Cajun cream sauce fried crawfish tails on top and served with a side of grilled zucchini and squash. This was the best fish I have had in a long time. This is a great place for date night. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. I had already taken a bite when I took the picture. Sorry NOT sorry!

I'm not sure why the reviews are mixed, but we had an excellent dining experience at Black Marlin this evening. We began with the flauta appetizer special, accompanied by a pineapple jalapeño margarita, cucumber martinis, and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. For our main course, we enjoyed the scallop pasta, salmon salad, shrimp and grits, and grilled mahi mahi tacos. Everything was cooked to perfection. To finish, we couldn’t resist trying both the signature key lime pie and the strawberry shortcake. The service was outstanding—attentive and professional. I highly recommend Black Marlin and would gladly choose to dine here regularly over the typical fried bar food found at most spots on the island.

Update to original post: We went back to Black Marlin twice while on vacation in June 2024. It seems like the chef is now a different one. Compared to any other place on the island, I still give this restaurant 5 stars and it is one of the better places to eat, though pricey. The restaurant atmosphere is now more cozy in the evenings with dimmer lighting and lights at the tables and tablecloths. One night we did not have reservations and were still seated immediately and the other night we have advance reservations. Service was excellent. We did have to wait slightly longer for a second serving of drinks on Father's Day night, but the restaurant was also busier that evening. We had already finished our dessert before the drinks ever came to the table and we were really ready to leave by that point. One of our fave dishes, the Shrimp & Grits, seems to have had a slight recipe change. It is still a good, solid choice, but not as good as it used to be. The sauce tasted different and was thicker this time. We had to get more sauce brought to us on the side because there wasn't enough sauce for the large portion of grits in the bowl. I recall the grits used to be cheddar grits, but these tasted more plain this time. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the special, an entire redfish cooked with head on with a special sauce. He loved it and the presentation was lovely. The Key Lime Pie on the dessert menu is amazing...it is served in a coupe glass and plenty to share. The grilled chicken alfredo was amazing and my husband also raved about the mahi mahi he had on the 2nd night. Drinks are always well crafted and tasty and have remained so! We really do enjoy this restaurant and do know that different chefs will put their own spin on things. I would like to request that the original shrimp and grits come back to the menu. This is one of our fave restaurants in all of the Port A! When visiting, we always have one dinner and one brunch at Black Marlin. We were excited this last time to find out that they now take online reservations. The shrimp and grits are the best ever. Our 7 year old daughter has to get her own bowl each time and devours them. Their drinks are tasty and refreshing and they always have a great cocktail menu. Servers are always nice and we love seeing some of the same ones there year after year. The Sunday brunch has a Blood Mary Bar with so many food add-ons you may not need to order any food from the menu. Our daughter adores the croissant beignets and the avocado toast was light and perfect.

Tacos were awesome!! Black Marlin and Reds have the same food. Black is inside while red’s is outside. Parking lot has no trees. Beer choices were mediocre.

A friend of mine recommended Black Marlin and it did not disappoint. In fact, it was better than expected after listening to the recommendation. It is not a very big restaurant which I can only assume allows them to provide quality over quantity. And for the prices, you can't beat it. This is the only restaurant I can remember where the food is a few steps above the price they charge. Don't get me wrong, it is still a $25-50 per person dining experience with the ability to go well above that, but they do such a fantastic job to where it makes it completely worth it. I left thinking I robbed the place! If you have younger kids, the Mac'n Cheese is amazing and big enough for two. Just don't try it, you may not give any to them!

This place is excellent, they do not take reservations but its worth the wait to stand in line. There is a bar outside on the patio to enjoy a drink while you wait. The shrimp and grits and the snapper and shrimp was awesome! The smoked redfish dip is excellent and I will be ordering it every time I visit. Black Marlin has delivered excellent food and service during my last two trips and I look forward to eating there again

Amazing dining experience!! We had the lobster tostadas, shrimp and grits, red snapper with shrimp and creme brulee for dessert. Everything was delicious. The service was excellent. We even got to meet Chef Gail and her partner, "The Queen". We definitely plan on coming back. Our daughter and son-in-law will be here from Houston next week and we plan on bringing them here. Thank you Chef Gail for a fun, delicious and memorable dining experience! Paul and Esmeralda Gonzales

This place is making my island dreams come true, one crab cake at a time! Our dinner was promptly served and the crab cakes and ahi tostadas were so tasty. The bartender was super attentive and very friendly. Thank for the hospitality y’all!

Stopped by Black Marlin for dinner this evening... it's basically a clubhouse-restaurant-bar for a golf course. That's not a negative, just level setting on what the venue is. It's very nice, well decorated, very comfortable. The staff is super nice, friendly and gracious, very helpful with the menu. We started off with a Lemon Drop Martini and a Lemon Berry Mule. Both were good, but very sweet. As a counter-balance we ordered the crab cakes appetizer which was very good. A little more filler than we prefer, but very well-seasoned and pan-fried very well. And the spicy aioli was delicious. For entrees we followed some of our Yelpers suggestions and tried shrimp and grits and fish and chips. One of the advantages of off-season dining in Port A is that places are not crowded, and food is usually served HOT! That was the case tonight. Both entrees were just off the stove/out of the fryer, very hot and good. The shrimp and grits had a very creamy sauce, perhaps a bit much for the dish, the shrimp and grits were drowning! LOL The fish and chips were well fried and the sides made everything super tasty. We had Blue Bell at home so we passed on dessert. We may stop by later this week to try some of the more "lunch" dishes, e.g., fish tacos and the burger. Black Marlin provided a solid dinner tonight, we recommend dinner there, and perhaps lunch too!

Sat ourselves, selected wine, companion stated we will have... and waitress bought one glass, without even questionioning if the lady would be interested in anything to drink. Requested second glass. No bread or butter before meal. Ordered crab cakes appetizer. The cakes were thin, about a 1/4 in thick. Did not taste freshly cooked as thay were not crispy and were luke warm. Flavor just ok. Moving on to salad, wonderful fresh lettuce, plenty of bacon and bleu cheese crumbles. Waitress came back to the table to I ask how I wanted my steak cooked. Then we waited.... and waited, we had arrived a bit before 6, it was now approaching 7 and still no entree. My companion was getting angry, as the service at this price point should have been impeccable, especially as the place was practically empty. Finally a bit after 7 our entrees arrived. We complained at the lateness and we were told the order had just gone in to kitchen 12 min prior... This person was apologetic and offered us second glass of wine or dessert but we declined both. We noticed when we received the bill 6.95 discount. Companion had ordered the seafood gumbo, he loved it, full of seafood and flavor, stated he would order again. I ordered the filet... a bit undercooked but tender, and flavorful. The sides were awful, sauteed spinach too salty to eat and full of stems. Pasta, spagetti with butter and garlic, flavorless. All this for $188. So very disappointed. Atmosphere could have been improved without the big screen TV's. Pictures made it look like a nice restaurant but more sports bar. Unlikely to return.

Very underwhelming. Vegetables literally had no seasoning. Baked potato looked like it had been sitting for two days waiting for me at six at night. The pork chop was halfway decent but not very big and $42 I came here to spend money, but expected more work into the food than what I got, what a change from when I was here four years ago. We sat with our plates in front of us for over 20 minutes, waiting to pay a bill Some tables had come in, but for those prices, we should have enough waitstaff

Frankly, I expected a better meal for the price I paid. I ordered a seafood plate, which looked and tasted like fast food with a bunch of Frenchfries and deep-fried seafood. Fish, oysters, shrimp, and vegetables seemed fresh but lack flavor.

The food was way too overpriced for the amount of food served and the quality of it, for instance the pasta Alfredo was bitter. I do have to say that the atmosphere is nice. You need reservations if you want to sit inside but the patio is first come first serve, which is what we did. Servers were very friendly.

Another bad meal at Black Marlin in Port A tonight. Not for wife as she always orders Cobb salad with crab and it’s always good. Tonight i tried the 3-2-1 Sampler and the batter on the shrimp and fish tasted burnt. Terrible aftertaste that I still taste. Best food here is the baked bread for $2. First time I came the food was way over salted. 2nd time I got shrimp and grits and they were great. Gonna stick with that from now on.

The food was incredibly overpriced and mediocre. The blackened mahi mahi was so overcooked. The Diablo sauce pasta tasted like Ragu sauce from a jar. The fried shrimp were great. The French fries were great. They have fried food locked down, but they charge a lot for it.

Hello all. I've been to several restaurants on the island and I have to say. For the price. I would rather go to Castaways. Google Maps said there was no wait time. But we were seated outside because there was nothing available inside? Which is no problem, really, but they were short-handed. That's understandable. I get that. But the food took a long time to get served. One waitress for about 6 tables outside. The atmosphere was nice. Facing the Gulf. The Gulf is actually not visible because of a dune in the way. All in all, I would not really recommend Black Marlin Bar and Grill. Props to the Reds bar for taking care of us. Cheers 🍻

We were on a family vacation, went to have a nice dinner to end our trip and was absolutely disappointed. Server was terrible, never came back to refill waters, had to ask multiple times for the kids waters, food was brought out wrong and after waiting over an hour for ONE plate to be remade we asked for an ETA and waited another 15 minutes with “no response” from the kitchen per the server. I finally went and spoke with a manager. I had better service and food at Blue Water Cowboy the following day. I will never come back to this establishment.

The food was way to overpriced! For the price you would expect at least good service and excellent experience but no. The orders were all wrong. Our friend never got his food the server was passive and unapologetic. We practically had to serve ourselves. We never once had our waters refilled the whole time we were there and sitting in the heat. One of the worst overpriced experiences I’ve ever had. The only good part was the manager assisting us.
