We enjoyed the service, atmosphere, and food here. The Snow Tiger sake was delicious. It made for a wonderful date night. The sushi was super fresh and delicious.
Bryce was a FANTASTIC bartender. He gave us some great recommendations and was amazing throughout happy hour! The nigiri was 10000/10 and would absolutely recommend.
I’ve visited the Bamboo restaurant on 23rd in Portland many times, and it’s always a great experience. The service is consistently friendly, and that’s one of the main reasons we keep coming back. The staff is welcoming and always happy to see us. The food is really good, and the menu has plenty of nice options every time. It feels great to walk in, enjoy a good meal, and spend time with family in such a comfortable atmosphere. I definitely recommend this place! 👌
We celebrated my birthday here! My family’s first time in the establishment. Food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent. Appreciate how attentive the staff was. My family felt safe, respected and cared for during our visit. One server also recommended a great sauce to pair with some of our sushi selections! Will be coming back !
***Edited Review*** 2/2 I really appreciate the response in regards to my review. I fully understand accidents happen and I will say, up until that point everything really was good. We will be back next time we are in town. 1/28-Food was good up until the we received the Nigiri 5 set. The last piece, as my son went eat it I noticed something, it was a hair... being a teenage boy he made sure there wasn't anything else in it and ate it anyway 🙄 At first I thought it was one of his hairs, it wasn't. I realized I took pictures of our food and there it was. I mentioned it only after paying in full just because, well he ate it, so yeah I'm going to pay. However once I mentioned it I was a little disappointed in the servers response like it wasn't a big deal.
I was in town visiting a friend who has a severe gluten allergy and I found Bamboo Sushi on the gluten free app. Looked into it and made a reservation. Informed the server of the allergy and she said there were only 2 items with gluten. One was the burger but could likely be substituted with lettuce instead of the bun and another was an option garnish. Even the tempura is gluten free which is very rare. We decided to get Wasabi Honey Chicken and Smashed Avocado crispy rice as an appetizer. The chicken was really good, had some heat/spiciness, but excellent flavor. The Smashed Avocado crispy rice was really good too but we both liked the chicken more. She got the Unicorn sushi and asked for eel sauce, and I went with the green machine which is vegetarian and asked for spicy aioli. We both really enjoyed the food and we ended with the Matcha panna Cotta. I'm not a fan of matcha so it wasn't for me, but she really enjoyed it. We enjoyed the food so much we came back 2 nights later with her Aunt and ordered chicken karaage for an appetizer (no picture). She got the garden of Eden Sushi and the Friday the 13th sushi and enjoyed both but I think she likes the Friday the 13th better. I got the chili garlic chicken with steamed rice which was very tasty. And her Aunt got the grilled octopus (no picture) and said it too was delicious. Highly recommend checking Bamboo Sushi out. It's a small restaurant and can be a little cramped but the food is delicious!
The Octopus was perfectly seared, tender and tasty. My daughter tried the Salmon flight and loved it. The Green Machine was astoundingly good. The manager came by and introduced the types of Salmon. He was awesome too! Love this place!
Loved it! We went here on a recommendation from our Lyft driver, and we were not disappointed. My husband and I love sushi, and this was no exception. Our server was amazing - she gave us a recommendation from every section on the menu. I would absolutely go back!
I visited this restaurant while traveling to Portland on business. It was delicious! I like a kick - the Spicy edamame and the Friday the 13th roll were just what I was looking for! I sat by the open window in the sun - love that!
Poke with taro chips, Coho Salmon Nigiri, I love that this Sushi is in our neighborhood. Amazing Sake selection and our server Dan was delightful as was the entire team at this location!!💯, adding on to this review. Another amazing experience 9/13 thanks to our server Sara who went above and beyond, making us feel special 🫶
High quality and delicious sushi, hand rolls, and crispy karaage. Definitely recommend the karaage and edamame, both were amazing. We came for happy hour and had great service from our server (Sarah, I think? Thanks!) Happy hour prices were great and the interior design is very nice. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying some more entree's.
Lovely experience last week at Bamboo. I have been to this location several times and have only had great experiences. The food was amazing! We ordered Miso soups, the King Salmon sashimi, the Albacore Crispy Onion sashimi (1st photo), Tuna Zuke/Tuna Tataki (3rd photo) and the Fry Tide (2nd photo). The signature sashimis were the highlight for us and we could’ve eaten more because of how delicious they were. Would love to try more of them. Service was great as usual. The restaurant can be a bit loud when it’s busy but didn’t bother me.
Some of the best sushi ever! Started with the fried cauliflower that was really well done. The miso caesar salad was tasty. Shishito peppers were a hit! Unicorn roll and sunset roll were awesome. Along with the various tuna nigiri we had. Garlic chili chicken was good, but the green beans that came had the string still on that made them difficult to eat. Very well done sushi!
The cauliflower was fantastic. The chicken karaage was very good: more meaty. We squeezed a couple extra lemons onto the chicken and enjoyed that. The spicy salmon and spicy something sushi was good. I think what made the sushi stand out is knowing it’s coming from sustainable sources, which is not something most sushi restaurants consider. We got here during happy hour and the whole thing was very affordable and delicious. Best sushi place I’ve been to in Portland.
The rolls here so so fresh and delicious! The Garden of Eden roll was my favorite and had such great flavor. Wonderful service and quick turnaround. We sat outside which ended up being a mistake because it was so crowded from Salt & Straw. I definitely recommend inside seating! A little pricey, but totally worth it for such fresh and sustainable seafood.
Delicious food, cozy atmosphere. Candace is a gem; she's bright and personable. She was attentive, set our expectations, and helped explain the menu to us. Highly recommend for a gluten free sushi trip.
This place always knocks it out of the park. We have been fans since the beginning at 28th and Pine. High quality sashimi, Uni never disappoints. Service is great. Atmosphere is amazing. Wait staff knowledgeable and provide excellent recommendations. Just can’t say enough good things about the place.
This place used to be a bit smaller but as it has grown it has maintained excellent quality. I guess it’s now sort of a chain? It has urban vibes and I think they know they’ve gotten popular so you’re losing some of that small town restaurant feel it had say 10 years back… but the fish is excellent and while you’ll pay a heavy price, it’s not hard to feel full for a reasonable final ticket in the $30-40 per person range. We had omakase and spent more, but it was good pacing for a little bit of good food; flavors consistent and overall quite nice. BUT we may have supplemented with even more rolls though afterward… it just wasn’t enough food otherwise, we decided. And we weren’t being piggy.
The best Miso Soup I've ever had, and the sushi was delicious - tasted fresh, and it felt like a lot of care was taken for deciding ingredients and flavours. A bit pricey, but worth it.
I had the best service in my life here. The waiter was very friendly and had a great personality. She went above and beyond for us. I have never had a vegan sushi experience like this. This is a must stop for vegans if you are in town.
Always amazing quality and unique offerings. The Nigiri always takes the cake, the scallops and salmon were top notch. The Hoki Poke boxes always a must. The new fried rice roll, spicy albacore was also quite nice and the fried crunch was a great texture. Would have liked to seen some more dry white options on the wine list, sushi friendly options. Not a complaint, a suggestion, the rose was a great wine!
Yo. Where do I even begin. First of all whoever cooked my octopus, please list your grandmothers phone number below. So that I may call her and thank her for birthing your mama. I have never tasted something so perfectly cooked, cleaned, and cared for in my life. I don’t typically like being the person who has to take a picture of their food before they eat it, but I felt like I was staring into the eyes of the Loch Ness monster. This dish was basically the equivalency of my mythological creature, if I didn’t capture a photo with anybody even believe me!? Thank you so much to the staff and the cooks. I’m not gonna lie. It helps that there wasn’t one unattractive person in that building. Everyone looks like they really loved working there, and that just changes the vibe of the meal. Not to mention best radio station I’ve ever eaten sushi to lol Mahalo for everything you guys do Mahalo for taking care of the fish that you serve me. Mahalo for setting the standards. Seriously, so impressed.
What a great culinary experience! Enjoyed every meal and the service was so helpful and attentive! I had the nigiri chefs selection, uni, fried chicken karaage and spicy edamame as well as the macha panna cotta.
The rolls here so so fresh and delicious! The chasing the dragon roll was my favorite and had such great flavor. Wonderful service and quick turnaround. Great food that is fresh and sustainable seafood.
Make sure you make a reservation! It’s so worth it. To start off we got a round of sake sangrias and a Shogun Shotgun. Both were amazing, can’t wait to try their other cocktails. For food we got a Friday the 13th roll, the Chasing the Dragon Roll, a spicy salmon roll, some steelhead nigiri with a mango sauce, and a shishito peppers small plate. The peppers are to die for, order immediately. The mango sauce on the steelhead nigiri was kind of overpowering. I would skip it next time. We loved Chasing the Dragon but Friday the 13th was a little too big for the average mouth. Still an amazing place to go. Stop by if you can.
The first time we tried this place it was a pick up order so we were very excited to finally dine in! Dexter was our server and they were amazing. The food was incredible, the vibes inside were gorgeous, and every single person working was so kind. This is my new favorite sushi spot in Portland! 10/10!!!!
Had a great lunch here on a Saturday afternoon; food was fresh and delicious. Hana was our server and she was friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. She had good suggestions and recommendations on what to try. We had a new appetizer with spicy tuna and avocado on a crispy cracker that was amazing. I love the mural in the dining room. This place is my favorite sushi in the NW neighborhood.
Absolutely love this place! I’ve been coming to bamboo sushi, any location around Portland, multiple times over the past few years and it always hits the spot. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. The ginger is out of this world and we always ask for more. The true star is the green machine roll, it is just so tasty and unique. Anything I’ve had here tho, has been great and with high quality. I would recommend a reservation if you plan to come during busy times as you may have to wait a bit. There are options for group seating as well if you plan to come in a larger group - definitely would recommend a reservation for that as well.
Excellent sushi on a Japanese minimalist atmosphere. Friendly service. Excellent variety of traditional and new sushi. The quality of the fish is always excellent. Typically in my rotation every time we visit. Portland. Highly recommend any of their locations.
The first time I came here on a work trip, I sat at the bar and accidentally left my airpods. I realized too late on that trip to go back for them, but the restaurant was so accommodating they actually kept them in their safe until I returned over a month later. I am so grateful for their hospitality. Not to mention, the food and service is equally amazing. I will be going back again next time I'm back in town.
I have been coming to this location religiously since it opened years ago. The sushi is ridiculously amazing! Taste, quality and presentation. I love the sustainability aspect so much. As far as service goes, Hana has such a great, easy going personality. She always greets us with a smile and love it when she is serving. We always know she will provide excellent service and have something fun to share about the new offerings on the menu!
I had a very long work day and walked in 20 minutes before close and asked if they could do a to-go order. I felt horrible but Mike made me feel welcome and was glad to take my order. Such a quick, great experience which is unfortunately hard to find. These days. Will definitely be back while I'm in town because of Mike.
Have recently discovered veggie sushi and am obsessed. The green machine rolls were amazingly flavorful and the crispy tofu was the perfect texture. Great service and very accommodating of my allergies.
I am not even close to kidding when I say this - this is the BEST sushi I've EVER had in my life! Even just the California roll is unreal. Also random, but their steak is one of the best steaks I’ve ever had too. I’m celiac and their food is all gluten free except for the burger which I appreciate. I do wish they would do a gluten free bun though - being that everything else is gluten free, it’s a little odd to me that they don’t do gluten free buns! But I highly recommend trying this place out.
One of the best places to have fresh sushi and great sake! Ambiance was so cool that you wanna spent more time there. Fish were so fresh and tender and sushi’s rice well cooked but little salty! Also we had a really nice and delicious sake. I give them 4.5 ⭐️
The sushi is really good. We tried several rolls and some starters. The fried rice was too salty. Service definitely must be improved.
The Pearl District Bamboo Sushi had become our go-to fam sushi place. But it feels like Bamboo has lost some of its luster... The usual attention to detail was off last night—from under-cooked vegetable tempura (tricky when it's sweet potato) and over-cooked karage to uncleared adjacent tables and bottom-of-the-bottle Cava. *Sigh*
Fantastic food, great service… but a bit dark. Spicy Edamame, Crispy Tofu, Chirashi Bowl and Avocado Crispy Rice are a must! Parking can be a little tight - I mean it is 23rd after all. But we’ll worth the few trips around the block.
I love their sushi but they are always late on their already long wait time for pick-up. Add 10-15 minutes to the 45+ minute "due" time they give you.
Food was tasty, but i paid $20 for three bites of cod. Left here and went and got a burger so there is that. The sushi was good and well portioned for the price. The service was not very good, I wanted dessert but the server would not come around for me to order it. I went to Papa Hydens for dessert, that was a good choice. It was way too loud in there I could not talk to the person across from me at the table. Overall not impressed.
Great food. Gourmet preparation. Delicious sake flight. Weird Ska Punk music: Less than Jake was played on continuous loop. The music ruined the whole vibe. Are they playing music for the staff or for the guests?? No artwork. I went to the Japanese Garden. Came here. Had to wear my headphones to enjoy lunch. Is that how Portland does it?? I suppose it does: Weird.
I ordered takeout here, and it was a mixed experience. The wagyu burger was supposed to be cooked medium well, and it was served rare (see photo). The rest of the order was well-received.
the sushi was delicious and the restaurant looks more modern compared to other restaurants. But they brought us an expired non-alcoholic beer. We found out about this when we had already drunk half of it. When we said that to the waiter, she simply offered to replace the bottle, then said that there was no more beer and offered to remove it from the account. She said that as if it's normal for them. Be careful and pls take care
10 years ago I would have raved about this place. But the service just is not close to what it was. Slow service despite few tables occupied. Server hanging out and texting and absent then came by to tell us he was going on a break? Hoping management group puts effort into reviving the old culture, because this place could be awesome.
I love trying progressive, high-quality sushi spots, and I’ve given this restaurant three chances to really blow me away. The food is consistently spectacular. The service, unfortunately, is consistently not. Last night, our server was rude and dismissive. The hostess was lovely and the busser was great, but the server made the experience unpleasant. And that’s been the case every time I’ve visited. It’s disappointing, because the food deserves better service to match.
I've been to Bamboo a few dozen times and this was my last visit. They have reworked their menus (again) resulting in a happy hour that is not worth the time and a main menu that is unremarkable. You used to be able to get hand rolls, a salad, and a drink and you'd be out for $30-35 with tip on happy hour. A nice main menu meal and cocktail for $50. No more. The quality of the fish has taken a clear step down, the happy hour has dropped the salad option, and the miso soup is now $6.
Could have been an off night- but the sushi was simply not good. I think we could have gotten better rolls at 7-11. We left most of our food untouched because the texture and flavor was so bad. Even the edemame was seriously over salted. The server was kind. We went to another restaurant for food after spending over $40 a person. Disappointing
Tried as I may, the experience was unsalvageable. The salmon sushimi was not fresh at all and broke apart on the tip of the chopsticks. The rolls were subpar. Had it not been for the stale salmon, everything else could might just passed as decent. The interior design was pseudo-minilism at best, and does not bring about the warmth of a cozy restaurant.
It was one of the worst food I ever had! My boyfriend wanted sushi and I don't like it, so I have decided to get burger, and it was $18 for a burger and it was awful!!!! I never had sweet burger before. They put sugar on it. And I didn't eat it and when we told them that I don't like they were like aww sorry and charged us for it. Zero, never again
Save your money. Extremely poorly run operation with dubious quality sushi and appalling poor service and regard for customers. With 8 empty tables in full view, we were told there would be a 15 minute wait. After seating waiting 15 minutes to even be acknowledged, another 10 minutes to inquire about drinks or order while staff clearly standing around shooting the breeze rather than working. Appetizer not delivered after 30 minutes. 'Chef special' shishimi was previously frozen thawed out sour tasting salmon, tuna and other unidentifiable 'white fish '. All wait staff disappeared for the remainder of the meal. Had to flag down someone to pay for our largely uneaten meal. Never asked once by any member of staff 'how was the meal' because they either knew how bad it was or didn't give a fig.
