Opinions de Huber's Restaurant Portland
I tried the ham and turkey dish — very delicious — but the experience was elevated by the bartender’s exceptional, flawless service. What surprised me most was how much the building itself adds to the visit. The architecture invites you to pause and look around, with details that give the place character and a sense of history. A memorable stop on every level.
Ronia and Olivia were so attentive, particularly to our infant: from helping get an appropriate high chair, to also giving a sample of their soup for him. We felt very loved and welcomed. The happy hour black bean nachos were tasty! We also split the turkey special which was a flavorful classic! Glad we split the meal since it was a lot of food! They even had a violinist playing beautifully which entertained our little one as well.
Sometimes things are just a classic for a reason. Definitely get the Spanish coffee - you can order it hot or iced. Spanish coffee ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - not super alcoholic - prefer it iced over hot Half and half ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - never enjoy thanksgiving food from a resturaunt but we loved it here - the turkey wasn't dry, the ham wasn't chewy - the sauces were great - I liked the turkey and my boyfriend liked the ham more Apple and beet salad ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - very delicious - the spinach was fresh and not bitter - we loved the dressing
I’ve lived in Portland my whole life, and I’ve never heard of this place until today. That said, Hubers is apparently the oldest bar and restaurant in Portland. The interior definitely feels very historic. I’ve walked past this places hundreds of times and never knew it was here. It is slightly hidden though. The menu was great and had quite a number of turkey options which they supposedly are known for so I had to try one. In a word WOW. Easily the best turkey I’ve ever had. Tender flavorful and delicious. I can’t wait to try another option next time. This place is a hidden gem. I ordered Spanish coffee as well which if you come here should as well. The bar tender comes table side and creates a very theatrical drink experience at your table. The food is reasonable priced and yet the service seemed of a higher caliber. I highly recommend this place. I will be back.
Spanish Coffee (iced/hot) is a must. We enjoyed it so much we visited on back-to-back nights during my birthday weekend. Happy hour menu didn't disappoint. Highly recommended Portland experience!
I went a few months ago for my birthday after hearing about it on KGW around Thanksgiving time. Lived here for years and somehow never heard of Huber's. BIG MISTAKE! Where have you been all my life, Huber's?! From the atmosphere to the customer service to the AMAZING food, and equally amazing over the top Spanish Coffee, Huber's knocks it out of the park. My wife ordered the Turkey Cream Cheese and Cranberry Sandwich, and I ordered the Half and Half which is one part turkey with gravy and one part ham. My dish also came with a side of mashed potatoes with gravy. The turkey was so unbelievably tender and the ham practically melted in my mouth. At some point I knew I was getting full but I did not care at all. Nope. I could've ate more. I'm sure I could've found room for it somewhere in my tummy. In between dinner and dessert my wife ordered herself a Spanish Coffee. If you've seen the various videos here, yes, a bartender does come out and personally make one in front of you. They also light it on fire. It's such a nice touch. And it is every bit delicious as it looks. After our fantastic dinner we had ourselves from scratch made house Pumpkin Pie. Like everything else that night - perfect! It truly topped off one of the best meals, one of the best dining experiences ever. I've heard everything here is as local and fresh as it gets, and it truly shows. I can see why they have been around since 1879. Never ever change Huber's. EVER! Will recommend to everyone I know.
Get the turkey dinner and spanish coffee! This place is very historic and the servers are so professional. I love coming here for happy hour also. They do a traditional happy hour and 9- close, which is perfect for late dinner before going out downtown.
Very old school spot. They serve classic dishes well. I loved the turkey plate. It was better than a lot of Thanksgiving meals. The bread was also delicious.
Had out team get together dinner at this place and the service was great. For group of 12 they seem to have only one spot but we were good having reservation.
What an excellent experience. DO MAKE RESERVATIONS! The food and atmosphere is not one of a Cafe. It's just shy of fine dining. No tie required. Lol. I had the seafood pasta. Awesome!! The spicy margaritas was great, too. Everyone in our party had a fabulous meal. DO GET THE SPANISH COFFEE. It turns a meal into a Dinner and a Show. Enjoy!
First time in Portland Oregon visiting from Portland Maine, I decided to check this highly rated restaurant out to see what they are about. This classic local restaurant did not disappoint. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The food is consistently outstanding, with each dish prepared with care and attention to detail. The flavors are rich and comforting, and the portions are generous without feeling overwhelming. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always making sure you’re well taken care of. Whether it’s a casual meal or a special occasion, this place delivers an exceptional dining experience every time. They even gave me recommendations of places to visit on my trip which I greatly appreciate. Highly recommend this place!
Classic old restaurant. Delicious turkey dinner on Christmas Eve! Finished it off with well-known Spanish Coffee.
Full on. THANKSGIVING plate, delish. The Spanish coffee presentation was very entertaining and the coffee was so good.
I went here with a group from work and we were not disappointed. There is a great selection of drinks available, including local beers on tap. None of us ordered the famous Spanish coffee, but we saw one being poured and were VERY tempted to. The calamari was exceptional! The beer bread was interesting, to say the least. It had the consistency of pound cake, but not as sweet. I ordered the Turkey Pot Pie and was not disappointed. This was easily the best meal I'd eaten while in town this week. They have perfected anything Turkey. We were a bit underwhelmed by their "brownie". It was more of a nutty cake than brownie. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty, but not brownie-like. The service and atmosphere were outstanding!
A must see and do! Lunch was delish. Service was perfect and the Spanish coffee was awesome.
More than a review (this place doesn't need reviews) it's a praise. Food and drinks, the atmosphere, people working here: everything contribute to the unique magic of Huber's. If I'll have the chance to visit Portland again, this is the first place I'll be heading to!
Love the historical aspects of this place, that's what drew me in. The food was good. The service was great.
I love to go to the oldest bar in every city I go to and Huber’s Cafe might be at the top of my list for these bars (aside from Fraunces tavern in NY). This bar feels like you’ve stepped back in time. The menu has a bunch of tidbits about prohibition cocktails and how they came to be. If you like the coffee and liquor the Spanish coffee is a must have. It comes with an entire show. Would recommend getting it iced if it’s warmer weather. We didn’t try the food - might be mid. Staff is super friendly and accommodating though!
My family visited Huber’s while in Portland earlier this month. My ex husband lived in Portland for many years so he was eager to take us to this institution. My son and his girlfriend had the Spanish coffee and it is a must if you come here. I’m Celiac with a true milk allergy & like always if I eat out am very cautious. Our waiter was so kind (I get a lot of eye rolls when inquiring about allergens/cross contamination etc.) and spoke with the chef to guarantee all that i had was safe. It was delicious. The vibe is very old school and inviting as soon as you walk through the front doors. I loved looking at all the historical photos of Huber’s and downtown Portland over the years. We sat in the bar at a table. It was full but service was excellent. We will be back for breakfast the next time we come.
We came just in time for happy hour and it is such a deal! We ordered the Mongolian beef skewers and artichoke dip fir appetizers. We then ordered a sandwich and the beef stroganoff off, and IT IS FANTASTIC. I doubted how good it could be, but honestly, it's quite fantastic. I highly recommend it. Our service was great. The sandwich we couldn't even eat because we were so full! But it wasn't as good as the other 3 dishes.
I had a party of 56 people after a show at the Broadway Rose in Tigard. We had a private room with the best wait staff i have ever seen! The food was amazing, the ambiance was incredible, and the prices were great. Kudos to James and his staff for an unforgettable evening! Bravo!
If you're visiting Portland, this place deserves to be on your list. It's the oldest restaurant in the city and the food, service, and atmosphere has held up throughout its long run. I actually came in for a quick lunch and knew I wouldn't be able to do a full turkey dinner, so the server let me order do a kids order despite being a full grown adult. They are a genuine local experience that I highly recommend for visiters and locals.
Although we are vegetarian, our parents were visiting from MI and love Turkey dinners. Googled and found this restaurant. 💯 lives up to its great reviews! We found an amazing salad (Apple and beet) and ordered mashed potatoes, yams and had 2-3 other options if needed as a non-meat eater. Our parents raved about the taster freshness of the turkey and we all agreed the mashed potatoes were top notch. Believe all the good things you’ve read…try it. Any drink you could imagine and the Spanish coffee looked amazing, although we passed for personal reasons. Loved the service and decor. We’ll bring all our out of town guests here!
After seeing the Happy hour menu, I sat at the bar and had a simple meal with Fort George beer, and it tasted great, and when I ordered Spanish coffee, I could enjoy the bartender's splendid performance. hope you come here and feel the old-fashioned atmosphere with the old tradition.
It's a terrific refuge in war torn Portland. As you can see from the accompanying photos. Located in the heart of the city.
Hubert is a must visit destination while you are in Portland. Built in 1866 as I was informed by our waiter. The food was delicious and well presented. The historic atmosphere is evident as soon as you enter. The restaurant was clean and well-appointed. The downtown district is very populated by homeless people, so be careful, especially at night.
If you find yourself in downtown Portland, you definitely need to visit Hubers. This is a spot I always visit when I'm in town. Lots of history here as this place has been around since 1879. The same family has been involved with the restaurant for quite some time. All the food items on the menu are really tasty! The location primarily deals with poultry, but they do have a variety on the menu and the food is delicious. The drinks served are good, and you definitely have to experience the Spanish Coffee, as it is their house specialty and its preparation is really quite the show (literally). So have those cell phones ready for video and photos! The drink itself is delicious! I like the back bar and lounge area, as it is the original space. If you're in the mood for a bit of history with good people, good food, and good beverages, you definitely need to stop by. I'll see you there, bon appe'tit and cheers!
Oldest Restaurant in PDX. Everything is Dynamite here, especially the The Spanish Coffee... Est. 1897
Been coming here for years. Love their Spanish coffees and their food is good too
Definitely visit Huber's if you are near Portland. The food was melt in your mouth good. We had reservations and there was little wait time.
Atmosphere... Ambiance... Hubers has it all in spades. The food is always fresh and delicious! The service is warm and friendly. I have been coming by for years and will continue to. Stopped by for my bi-annual visit and as always top-notch!
Absolutely a great experience. Highly recommend the turkey sandwiches. Plus the Spanish coffee is quite delicious.
So I can’t speak to the food because have honestly never come here to eat. The main draw for us is the Spanish coffee. John made our drinks and he made it a show worthy of your attention. Not to mention how incredibly delicious it was. Again, I don’t know much about the food, but if you are looking for an amazing Spanish coffee, a cool setting, and a little bit of history, this is the best place in Portland.
Every year my husband and I come to town for the summer months. We always make a stop at Huber's. We are both long time Portlanders and this is the oldest restaurant in Portland. You always start with a Spanish coffees. These are put together right at your table with flaming spirits. We especially love the turkey dinner in the open face turkey sandwich. If you ever have a hank ring for Thanksgiving dinner any other time during the year this is the place to go. The service is an excellent. I love when you don't have to ask for water or hunt down a server if you need anything extra. Speaking of extra if you do get the turkey dinner make sure and get the mushroom gravy with extra gravy. The atmosphere is an old world dark woody look. Something right out of the 1930s movie.
Just had the fettucine Alfredo for 1st time. A good value at $24. Usu a turkey or ham once a yr guy. Awesome! Bettr than Olive garden. A LINE TO GET IN Upon opening at 4! Sunday later open. Wow as always Any visitor be sure to see the Mr. Louie memories condolences book.
HUBERS is a delightful restaurant and the oldest restaurant and bar in downtown Portland. It's beautiful inside and has so much history, you can feel it when you walk in! By the way, HUBERS serves THE BEST freshest Willapa Bay Oysters I have ever HAD! Even the tarter sauce is authentic! (I KNOW they are known for their delicious year round turkey dinner AND the extraordinary flaming Spanish coffee show.) However, for me, the amazing onion rings with REAL ranch dressing and a plate of PERFECTLY prepared oysters with real tarter sauce, is my dream dish! JAMES K. LOUIE ,PRESIDENT of HUBERS made a surprise visit to our table and was so gracious and warm and friendly. He gifted my dear friend Dr. Sandra K. Burns and I a lovely slice of a new dessert he is adding to his extensive dessert menu. Limoncello Tiramisu! THIS is a fresh elevated Tiramisu with lemon curd and limoncello soaked lady fingers ( Limoncello is an Italian lemon flavored liquor) ...topped with that elegant Chantilly Cream ...a wonderful light way to end the perfect meal! Thank you James K. Louie, Molly, Michael, and Mike and the CHEF, who prepared our food with an ingredient that no one can buy.... LOVE ❤️ It's still owned by the Louie family I believe.
Got the Salmon and bay shrimp cocktail on happy hour. The smoked salmon plate was exceptional. Had oyster shots it was my first time trying oysters the sauce was the main flavor you get from it. Also ordered the Saint Germaine Champagne and a Spanish Coffee which comes with a show where they catch the drink on fire. It is definitely a very popular venue it got very crowded quick. Was going to try the soup de jour but it never came the waitress forgot to put it in she was definitely busy and could have used a few more staff during the rush. Tasted the bbq turkey sandwich my partner ordered was not quite found of it.
Get the Turkey. Get the Spanish coffee. Fantastic historic building and interior decor. Huber’s is a must visit restaurant. It has been in the current location over 100 years. Service was great - portion sizes were extremely generous. We started with drinks (ipa beer & marionberry cosmo) My wife had the Turkey dinner, which was fantastic. Tender roasted Turkey, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, broccoli, and cranberry sauce. I had the salmon, broccoli and rice, which was very good, but I would get the Turkey the next time I visit. We split one dessert and one Spanish coffee. Total without tip was $97, which I thought was very reasonable. Give it a try.
What a cool, historic restaurant! A big selection and everything was good! If you're on the hunt for top notch food, this probably isn't the spot, but if you're looking for a broad menu with everything being solid, then you'll probably enjoy Huber's.
We chose this kind of at the last minute, after finding it online. It is quite a Portland Institution. The atmosphere is beautiful and old, and there are several things like a very old cash register that really added to the place. The table we were seated at was pretty small, even for just two people. The place was not crowded at the time we were there, which was about 5pm on a Monday. They are known for their roast turkey, and it sounded good. We split a plate of the roast turkey. My friend got a side of mashed potatoes, and I had the yams. I am used to sweet potatoes are a bit sweeter, but these were decent. I liked the stuffing, the traditional cranberry sauce and the turkey was perfectly cooked. I absolutely loved the slice of beer bread that they served. I could have happily eaten just several slices of that for my dinner! If it were possible, I would have bought a loaf of it and brought it home. They were kind enough to split the bill, even though we split the meal. The waiter was attentive, dressed in a suit, and very friendly. If I were in the area, I would go there again.
Had a pretty uncomfortable time at Huber’s Cafe this past Saturday. I made a reservation a few weeks in advance, and was surprised when we were seated directly behind the hostess stand, arguably the worst spot in the restaurant. The tables were too close together and I spent 3/4 of the meal having to sit extremely close and leaned into the table because the guy behind me was leaning back. And this was a long time, because our total meal time was two hours. We saw many people be seated and leave before we did while we were there. It’s the holidays, but I had no clue it would be his busy for an early dinner time of 5:00pm. We also had to suffer through the cold breeze coming in from the hallway because people kept leaving the door open. It’s a very loud space, high ceilings made it impossible to have a conversation. Since we were directly behind the hostess table, we just had the hostesses staring at us and looming nearby, but of course we couldn’t leave any earlier because it took so long to even get our drinks ordered, let alone our dinner and check. And the food was ok, a little lacking on flavor. Our server was super nice, she was the best part. The Spanish coffee makers were also very friendly. Overall it was really nice to visit a Portland staple, but I don’t know if the ambience is for me since it was so crowded. Maybe it would be better not during the holidays.
Host and bartender were amazing. They got the assignment... Be a part of the charm of this historic gem. Our server... Not so much. Grumpy that we only got the signature drink. Of course we were going to top tip heavy for taking a table. Of course we were going to be in and out fairly quickly. We didn't even expect revisits to the table. But we sure didn't expect to be scowled at by our server repeatedly. I'm glad we had cash to tip the bar on top of the tip on our bill because he made it all worth the visit.
Nice old restaurant with plenty of charm. Menu offerings are good with a continental flair.. The peppermill they used needs to be replaced. Huge chunks were on our meals & not pleasant to eat. An easy to fix. I did alert the folks at the host station. They brought me a pepper shaker & I had to explain the issue again. Hopefully ownership & buy a new pepper grinder for future diners delight!
The concern is not with the quality of the food as that is always good. The concern is the Happy Hour. The current Happy Hour menu requires an $8.00 minimum drink purchase to receive the Happy Hour prices. This essentially means that you must buy an alcohol beverages as their non-alcholic drinks of soda and coffee do not reach that price point. Pointing this out so you are aware before you go! Dr. Bruce
The food is not bad, taste wise, but it's outdated and not good value for money. Yes, it's one of the oldest eateries in PDX, but I think this is somewhat a case of being too full of one's self. It can get pretty loud when full. The staff were really accommodating and nice to interact with. Food is just overrated for their prices.
Went here about a week ago, loved the environment and service! unfortunately, the food was subpar, really sad they used Colby Jack in a quesadilla, and served "cornbread" when we just asked for basic bread, and it was overwhelmed with the taste of baking soda which was awful and having sweetbread was not a good mix. Please just serve good ole toasted sour dough with butter! So, I definitely think its overpriced for what was served food wise. Otherwise, their cocktails are amazing! and the servers were lovely!
I came to Huber’s for the famous Spanish coffee — and to be fair, that was the highlight. The presentation was super cool, and the mixologist was friendly and skilled. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. We ordered the calamari and artichoke dip as appetizers — both were disappointing. The calamari was rubbery and barely fried, while the artichoke dip had zero flavor and felt like an afterthought. The atmosphere is dated (which makes sense, given the place has been around since 1870), but not in a charming way. It's loud, cramped, and packed with older crowds. Tables are so close together you can barely hear the person across from you. Save your money and your time — I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re just stopping by for the Spanish coffee show.
I've ALWAYS loved Huber's, but my last visit on Wed night was very disappointing. After having a couple glasses of wine with a friend, I got a half & half $30 dinner to go on the way out (along with dessert and soup), and they forgot my cranberry sauce AND the beer bread and butter with my meal. For $80 (after tip) you'd hope all your food was there. Ruined my entire meal. Don't forget to double check your to go orders this holiday season!
Server brought the wrong salad but we didn't say anything. Salad was so-so but the Salmon was outstanding. I wish I would have said something about the chicken piccata though. The chicken was very tough, dry and flat in appearance. There was an uninspiring bunch of noodles and very little cream sauce. To top it off, our server was distracted and absent. We will be back to get the right salad and hopefully a better entre. Atmosphere is excellent as always.
I so hate writing a bad review to such an absolute Portland landmark but they really deserve it today. My family has been coming to Huber’s bar to eat and enjoy Spanish coffee every Thanksgiving eve for years. I made a reservation for our tradition for 5 people at 4:30pm. It is now 5:34pm and we have finally made the sad and frustrating decision to leave without being seated and find somewhere else to eat. I am very understanding that this is the busiest day of the year for them but some table management is needed. The host said some tables have been seated since lunch. It is totally wild to allow this on such a busy day of the year. What’s especially frustrating is I made this reservation on 09/08/2025, and I called on 11/05 to verify the reservation. Our Huber’s tradition is over. I am very bummed. PS- the food has been and always will be super mid. 2 stars instead of 1 because of the memories we have here but I don’t think we will ever return 😭
