Tara Thai is a gem! Customers rave about the delicious food, especially the Tom Ka soup, crab wontons, Pad Thai, and Drunken Noodles. The beautiful patio atmosphere and attentive service are also highlights. A minor complaint was a charge for extra rice.

Opinions de Tara Thai Restaurant Portland
Such a cute place! I love how so many restaurants and shops in Portland are converted from old houses, and this place is one of those. The servers were really sweet and the food was delicious! The Mango Paradise tastes like orange chicken but sweet.
This place is a great spot to check out! The food was amazing and the service was accommodating. Everything we ordered tasted fresh, and came out quickly. I can’t wait to come back!
We have eaten at other Thai places in town. This is one of our favorites for sure! They have a beautiful patio, great quality food, and authentic flavors. Having spent time in Thailand, you always search for something that closely resembles authenticity - they do a great job here. The service is very friendly as well. :)
Awesome little house turned into a Thai food restaurant. They have a HUGE patio outside with a very large tree for shade. The outside seating is a major draw for us. More than half of their seating is outside..but without being on the sidewalk of in the sun. There is a talk bush wall around the patio so it feels a little secluded/private. I've seen many people come just to chill on the patio with a Thai iced tea :) Me and my daughter love going here. The service is great...very attentive. We love to get the coconut ice cream for dessert. ENJOY! ;)
The tofu salad rolls were perfectly wrapped with a thicker rice paper, not sure if it was made in house but holy smokes it was gooooood. Share a bowl of the Pad See Ew with tofu and it was ridiculously amazing. The rice noodles are chewy and soft with great flavor. On top of the amazing food, I had the Tom Kha cocktal! I can't reccomend this enough! Thank you for a great experience 🤌🙌🤌
My favorite restaurant on 23rd. I got the drunken noodles and they were spicy and flavorful without being too oily. The meat was well cooked and the veggies were crisp and juicy. Quantity was good too. The ambience is pleasant and the price is reasonable. If you live nearby please support this place!
I love this place!! My first stop whenever I’m in town. I told the woman working that I would wait in my car for my order and she brought it out to my CAR within less than 10 minutes!!! So kind and thoughtful even though there was no expectation for her to do such a thing. Highly HIGHLY recommend coming here!!!!
One of my favorite places to get Thai food! I love the location on 23rd St., it’s walkable and it’s got a great patio underneath a beautiful oak tree. Patio is usually heated in the winter! Been here many time, and the food and quality is always delicious. My favorite things to get are the curries and the soups, but the noodle dishes are incredible as well. They also have a cheeky little cocktail menu and good non-alcoholic drink suggestions.
Love this place and now they have a tent! We sat outside with our dog this weekend. Food is always yummy whenever we have gone to eat and had the chance. Go and give them some love! ❤️
Went with a large group, very easy to make reservations. Friendly and helpful staff with great customer service skills. The main dishes are plenty and the sides are good. I was warned that spicy would be SPICY but I found it to be rather heatless. That being said the food was still delicious!
Very good Thai with a long menu containing delicious salads, noodles, curries, and, maybe less commonly, awesome cocktails. Ordered close to a dozen different dishes for 5 (between appetizers & mains, all served family-style) and every single one was outstanding! Dog-friendly patio has plenty of shade & service is friendly & attentive.
Amazing food and great service. I had the Panang Ped Yang and it was worth every penny. Every single bite left me with a smile. The staff is very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Will come here again.
Most things on the menu can be made vegan, just ask ahead of time. I'll note the very beautiful and venerable giant White Oak, which is a fantastic accent to accompany a very good Thai meal.
My favorite Thai restaurant. I work nearby so I get it often and it’s amazing every single time! Staff is very nice and attentive.
There peanut sauce is to die for. Fresh vegetables and big shrimp. So worth the money. I drive from beavercreek just to eat here. Singapore noodles and shrimp are wonderful also.
It’s a really cute quaint old home in NW Portland with an awesome Covid outside area with lots of heat even though we’re headed to the warmer months. The food is always consistent and delicious. I sometimes try other Thai places to switch things up but 3 out of 5 times I end up disappointed and regret it. Anyway, besides the awesome food you can always depend on the great and prompt service. Their take out holds pretty well too. There are times I’ll grab some food to go and will eat it sometime later and it’s always great. Highly recommended.... A+
Easily the best Thai spot in Portland and not many people seem to know about it. I highly recommend the pumpkin curry dish. The patio is great too when the weather is nicer.
First of all, this restaurant is located in a really nice area of Portland. I love the vibe of the setting, the remodeled Victorian home, which makes it a cozy place to be. They're also near a lot of great stores around which you can walk. More importantly, they have a great Thai menu. They have all the classics, and they also have their own unique creations. Their rainforest fried rice tastes excellent, especially when spiced! Service is nice too. I would love to come back here!
Food and its presentation was exceptional. Our server was attentive and friendly.
This was our first time here. My partner ordered the Khao Soi, and I had the Singapore Noodle. Both were fantastic (the sauces + spices were on point!) but I would HIGHLY recommend the Khao Soi. It was out of this world. Service was prompt and our waitress was great. We also ordered the fried tofu to start (which I had low expectations for since I’m not big into tofu) but it was also really good. They’re a good size (you could almost pop one into your mouth) and the coconut flakes really make it.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing, from their food to their service they never let me down! This time around we ordered the BBQ Chicken, Nam Khao, and Lime Sprite. The chicken always has a crispy exterior and juicy inside & the sauce is so deliciously sweet & spicy. The Nam Khao is a tasty go to, crispy rice inside lettuce wraps with a nice lime flavor, so delicious!
We LOVE Tara Thai! We live right next to this place and regularly order takeout. They are very fast too.
Tara Thai has been around for a long time. Not sure exactly how many years, but probably long enough to be considered part of "old Portland". Other restaurants in NW have come and gone during that time. Consistent quality, good variety of dishes, and reasonable prices make Tara Thai a can't miss. We tried the yellow curry, and it was delicious! Dog friendly outdoor patio.
Best thai food either of us have had. We were excited by the good reviews, but were worried we wouldn't get the same experience ordering takeout. Not the case!! Food was fresh and delicious, and the portions were plentiful even ordering to-go! Pictured are the drunken noodles, fried rice, pad thai, crab rangoons, and spring rolls. The second highest spice option was spicy but not just hot, full of flavor too. The shape of the crab rangoons lends itself to a higher cream cheese ratio—food for thought for those who mind, but very delicious. And wonderful service! Cannot recommend it enough!
First time. Pad See Ew is the best ever. Noodles cooked perfectly, and the veggies crunchy. Takeout was delicious. Chicken salad rolls and steamed veggies with chicken. Service great. I will definitely come back and I will tell my friends and family. Great location near Good Sam Hospital.
Tara Thai is a wonderful local Thai restaurant. The owner is so kind, she asks how my day was, asked me how my holidays went, and even wished me a good superbowl weekend. And importantly, the food is delicious. I should try more. Sometimes I even get nice drawings on my to-go orders. Thank you!
Excellent food and atmosphere each time we visit!
I go there quite frequently and I love the food there! The vibes there are very nice and I usually sit outside because the lights and 23rd in the evening is very nice. I usually get BBQ chicken and Thai tea, that combo for me is the best! Overall I love this restaurant and definitely recommend you to stop by if you have time 9.2/10! Going back to the vibes : The staff is very nice and I always feel so comfortable there!
I have moved away from Portland but one of the things I miss the most is the Mango Paradise dish from Tara Thai. Whenever I come back to visit I have to get it. Their deck is a beautiful setting and they are always so kind.
This is a long standby that doesn’t disappoint when you are in NW PDX. Pictured is the Phad Thai with Tofu and Phad See Ew with Chicken. Great outdoor seating when it’s nice. Beautiful nights on the porch with ample seating. There is a very old tree that is truly gorgeous. Homemade peanut sauce. Not from a jar folks. The dressing on the house salad is so yummy and again homemade. This is a family business that strives to make sure customers are happy. They take care in making food accommodations to help you enjoy your meal without sacrificing flavor. Thanks for the wonderful meals year after year.
Tara Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in town. The staff are absolutely sweet and accommodating and kind. I went with family who are vegetarian and the lovely staff member that helped us made sure that they were given vegan sauces and food was completely fish sauce and egg free for them. She was absolutely the sweetest, I wish I could've given her a hug! Super nice ambience, too, and their food is consistently amazing. I had the Pad Ka Praw, with ground chicken and fried egg at the Hot level. It had pleasant warmth and heat to it. Super delicious! The fried egg is an extra few cents but worth it!
“Just to say “THANK YOU” for our meal. The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. I especially enjoyed the special drinks, Tom Kha and Tamarind Cocktail was great loved it loved it loved it. And my nephew enjoyed his ice cream as well. It was delicious. Thank you so much for the great service I would recommend this lovely restaurant and will try to go back again.
Great food over here. A lot of food tastes authentic and my favorite dishes are Pad Thai and Rainforest fried rice! Atmosphere is astonishing especially during a warm weather season.
We came to Tara Thai for some lunch. I got the Pad See Ew, and my partner got the Pad Thai. Both were so so so good, but I kept stealing bites of my partners Pad Thai. The dishes came out piping hot, it made me feel right at home like I was eating my mother‘s cooking. Everything tasted so fresh and perfectly cooked. The portions are very generous. The workers are very sweet and kind. We devoured the food for lunch and went on about our day. We went for a hike and I couldn’t get the Pad Thai out of my mind so we got it for dinner as well as the mango stirfry. I recommend the Pad Thai, it was seriously the best I’ve EVER had!
we sat outside, nice patio. my wife Cashew Chicken which was very good. I ordered pad thai which was ok, a little bland. not bad though. Entrees were around $15 and they had a few beers and cocktails but ni non alcoholic beers, they seem to be stuck in 2023. Service us excellent and wait staff are superb. The neighborhood is busy and parking can be tricky, but also the neighborhood is rad and walking around 23rd is awesome so, its worth it. I would return, probably not get Pad Thai though.
Wow, this place is a gem!! A beautiful setting in a cute house with Gorgeous patio, and the staff is great. The food we ordered was spectacular, with the tom ka soup and crab wontons being standouts, but all our meals were delicious, and we were well fed WITH leftovers (my FAVORITE!!) I’ve heard they’ve been around since ‘85, and I can see why!
Savory, yummy and oh so refreshing! Nestled on the corner, kept company by a large Oregon Oak Tree, sits a wonderful Thai restaurant, Tara Thai. I enjoyed the perfect pad thai and the delicious homemade Thai Iced Tea, that filled me up and cooled me down on a spectacular Summer day. The service was warm and welcoming. As I dined, I couldn't stop myself from doing a little dance in my seat as the atmosphere, service and amazing food made me so happy! I hope you get to see for yourself and do a little shoulder shimmy while you're at it. 🤤💃🏽
Very cool Thai place. The place makes you feel like you are home. Great customer service as soon as you enter. If the weather permits eat out on the deck. Comfortable seating. I ordered the wings and I gotta say it was great. Nice lite crisp to it with some honey on there. I usually don't put sauce on my wings, but I had to try it and I gotta say it added some more flavor to the wings. Definitely would order again and visit this place again.
7/27/2024 Dining on the patio, surrounded by the refreshing negative ions from the giant trees, is always such a pleasant and comfortable experience. My friends, my spouse, and I have come here many times. We enjoyed a relaxing time with the Seafood Mix with Vegetables ($19.50) and Pad Kee Mao ($14.50), paired with Evolution Red Blend Wine ($9)🍷 and Thai Iced Tea ($4.50). The food was elegant and delicious.😊✨
Meal here was delicious! Went as a group of 3 and each of us loved our food choices: Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, and Drunken Noodle. Really fair pricing, quick and friendly service, and pretty fair pricing. I’d happily get Thai here again! There’s also a nice covered patio for warmer days or with a jacket. Pro tip: there’s a small parking lot in the back of the building with a few spots reserved for Tara Thai.
Really enjoy my meal over at Tara Thai. We came in a bit late on a Saturday and they were still able to seat us on the patio which was fantastic. Patio has a beautiful atmosphere and is perfect for a warm evening. The food came out fast and provided substantial portions! We wound up with yellow curry and the pad see ew which were both delicious. Would definitely recommend going back and this is as this is a great local spot!
Really great flavors, would love to go back for more. I got the Mekong river sausage, the pad ka praw with pork, and the mango sticky rice. The sausage was delicious and really uniquely flavored. Very clearly Thai, and very well blended. The pad ka praw was really good especially with an egg. Just enough spice, a thin tasty sauce, and juicy ground meat. The mango sticky rice had fresh tasty mango. The rice was good too but not mind blowing. All in all wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back.
A really lovely place - highly recommend. The patio is indeed lovely; I was able to sit in its shade which was wonderfully cool on a hot July day. The menu was fresh and everything came promptly and was delicious. I was also lucky enough to get one of their whole fresh coconuts! I drank my juice with my meal to cool down, and then ate the meat as a dessert. The place overall was clean, there is a small parking lot behind, and the staff was delightful and friendly. Really a 5 star experience.
I've been loving Thai food lately so I had to add Tara Thai to the list of places tried. I though the service was attentive and informative. I think it was the owner; she was awesome and took great care of me. I ordered my traditional Tom Yum soup and the "number 10" which was veggies, chicken and peanut sauce. (It's a good beginners dish to those new to Thai) I was looking for lots of veggies so the #10 got the job done. The Tom Yum soup was good; I should have asked for spicy though (my fault; I said I was new to Thai food so they probably went easy on me) Overall is was enjoyable. The patio seating was awesome and a surprisingly large space. I'll be back to try another round of dishes.
This restaurant is in the building where Paley‘s place had been for the 30 years I’ve lived in Portland. At Paley’s you could always expect a great continental-themed meal, great service, and a lovely evening. Of course, that has nothing to do with the new restaurant. Tara Thai Northwest is your standard high-end Thai food restaurant. Nothing special, and nothing interesting about the dishes to set it apart from any other Thai restaurant you’ve been to, but a lovely building, pretty good service, and standard Americanized Thai food meals well executed. Nothing to go out of your way for, but not a bad place to have some Pad Kee Mao or a nice curry.
The food was fast and Delicious. The only reason why 4 stars instead of 5 was. That the Drunken Noodle which is a standard for Thai, could have had just a touch more sauce.. but it was still very good. The Thai tea w/lime juice was addictive. The service was great. One of the best in Portland.
First time there and it was surprisingly good compared to the “usual” Thai places in pdx. Would defn go back. Reservations available
Loved sitting outside with all the string lights secluding with thick greenery so people on the street cannot see in, food was delicious and their historical tree is mesmerizing
We had the Coconut soup with chicken - pretty good, I’ve had better but it was good, the papaya salad - not spicy and a little plain but good, bbq chicken - normal, and the duck plate - sauce was amazing and that dish was pretty great. The metal tables outside have those holes in them so it’s hard not to spill anything and get it on your pants. The people were pleasant. The price was average. I’m not sure I would go out of my way to go there again but it was worth a dinner if you’re in the area.
I’ve eaten here many times. It seems that they have a new menu. Today the portions were tiny. We were given the tiniest amount of food and even smaller amount of rice and charged $2.50 for some peanut sauce. Ouch.
Decent food, but some odd choices. A bit strange to find cabbage and cherry tomatoes in Tom Yum, and the Pad See Ew was a bit bland. I like the location and atmosphere tho!
Regular customer. They take every opportunity to charge extra including on sauce despite giving you nothing to begin with on their most expensive items. Gave me this much sauce for over a pound of Thai barbecue chicken that costed 18 dollars. Only order here if you hate yourself and like being charged extra by greedy pigs.
Ok Thai favorites in a lovely shaded outdoor seating area. Can be a bit buggy depending on the time of day.
I had given this place five stars, before returning and getting charged $2.50 for extra rice after they carelessly gave me only a partial portion with my order. This is kind of inattention and inconsistency which makes people not return. My previous review said: Delicious food, with great vegan options, a cut above most Thai places I've eaten. I ordered a spicy eggplant with basil and tofu, and it was delish. Only criticism is that it was rather chilly inside.
Warning: This place waters down their Pad Thai with tofu, chopping it up to mimic chicken while including only a few slices of actual meat. The dish lacks vegetables, with only a few scattered pieces. I’m extremely disappointed, especially since I’ve dined here before. This practice feels misleading, as tofu is not traditionally used in Pad Thai. I won’t be returning, as I’m concerned about other possible shortcuts. I hope the management reassesses their approach, as this is misleading at best.
