This was our 2nd time coming here to dine. My finace had the filet mignon(i had to try a bite, so delicious!) and I had the crab and shrimp crab cakes for and appetizer and the chicken and shrimp fettuccine for dinner. Both tasted fresh and delicious and were full of flavor in every bite. They are both a must try. Note to chef: Seriously thank you for making such a great dish and I was one of the later dinner reservations and everything was so fresh!! I love this place

I’ve been here twice now and both visits were excellent. The service was fantastic. Our server, Andrew, was very attentive. The food came out quickly, hot, and genuinely delicious. The atmosphere feels like stepping into a living time capsule. There’s history everywhere you look, a reminder of how many people have passed through while this place has stood the test of time. The general manager, Brian, was kind and welcoming, and our whole group really enjoyed the experience. Nothing but good things to say. Highly recommend. Easily a five star experience and one we’ll happily repeat.

The most delicious food I have had in Oregon. The Tower Appetizers with baked brie, crab cakes and calamari what fantastic. The Cajun Chicken fettuccine what so yummy. The crab and shrimp stuffed salmon is a definite have too. And finally the Etouffe is to live for. Whenever you are in the area stop by. Financial tip, go to a late lunch so you get the delicious food at a more reasonable cost.

We had the famous crawfish etoufee, the seafood fettuccini, and a chocolate old fashioned. The food was delicious! I did think the etoufee could’ve stood to be a little hotter, but service was prompt so I am sure it wasn’t sitting for too long. They made the chocolate old fashioned at the table, I loved it! New to Oregon and wanted to check this place out, from the pictures I didn’t realize it’s a pretty nice restaurant, I felt slightly underdressed. Maybe that’s why the server put us alone in the back. Would return!

Food was absolutely delicious. It was Christmas day and they were swamped so getting our food took a while. Our server was fantastic, kept apologizing for the delays but we fully understood. She couldn't have be kinder. First time we've been for dinner but have been for happy hour several times. Best happy hour in town!

Such a cool place! It has a vintage atmosphere very friendly stuff. The service was great. Our food was delicious! We got the hot appetizer tower, and my husband got Jake’s Famous Étouffée and I ordered the crab & shrimp stuff halibut. Definitely recommend trying.

Spent a beautiful late Summer night eating outside at Jake's and had best mussels followed by amazing Steelhead, which was better than any Salmon I ever had.

If you love seafood, you’ll really enjoy this place. It’s clearly a popular spot in the area, so making a reservation is the best way to ensure you get a table. I ordered the crawfish penne, and it was a little spicy for me, but still very good. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations. We tried escargot for the first time, and… probably for the last time (just not our thing!). Their dessert menu is also impressive. Next time we’re in Portland, this will definitely be on our list to revisit.

Jake’s Famous Crawfish delivered an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The service was top-notch—our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and gave excellent recommendations. We started with the popcorn crawfish appetizer, which was perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. Unfortunately, we had to skip the clam chowder since it contains bacon, but there were still plenty of great options to choose from. For the main course, I went with the shrimp and cheese-crusted halibut served over creamy mashed potatoes with a rich, flavorful sauce. It was a standout dish and came highly recommended by our waiter—he was absolutely right, it was outstanding. We ended the meal with the apple pie and ice cream, and it truly blew us away. Warm, perfectly spiced, and paired with just the right amount of ice cream—it was the perfect finish. If you’re in town, you definitely need to give them a try.

We made a reservation at Jake’s Famous Crawfish and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere had a bit of an Italian feel, warm and inviting, with options for both indoor and outdoor dining. I ordered the Famous Étouffée and it was absolutely delicious, full of flavor and comforting. Drinks were excellent, and with street parking nearby, the whole evening felt easy and enjoyable.”

The food was DELICIOUS!! I highly recommend this place! The service is quick and got seated less than a minute. Got seated in such a beautiful view of outside indoors. The service is so friendly and fun to talk to. They would always check on us to see how we were We got our food in such great timing! I got the salmon and it was the best salmon I ever had. It was so rich and soft and seasoned well. The other appetizers and desserts were so good! I would come back again. I enjoyed my strawberry mint lemonade. We got the clam chowder and it was so so creamy and the salad was so good with the top of cashews.

Nice historic restaurant in Portland. Charming dining and bar areas. Menu is seafood biased with some alternatives. The fish was great. Our server Kyra took great care of us!

We were very impressed with our meal here. Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly. Portions were not huge, which as travelers we appreciate not wasting leftovers. Our server was genuinely friendly and checked in with us exactly as much as was needed. The stuffed salmon was so delicate and fresh, I would return again just for that dish.

We both enjoyed a delicious Steelhead salmon lunch (blue plate special) and I had a yummy bloody Mary.

We went on Christmas day. It was packed, we did have to wait even with a reservation, but it was worth it, and while we waited in the bar the waiter was very kind!

Absolutely excellent from top to bottom. As first time visitors (on Valentine’s Day 2025), wasn’t quite sure what to expect as this establishment has such a long and storied history. Figured they’d been around so long that they couldn’t possibly treat each customer as if it was known that it was their first time… nevertheless, that’s how we were treated. With such attention, respect and patience. Seems as though their baseline for how they treat each and every customer is top notch and we experienced it as such. What a great valentines dinner and overall experience. Couldn’t have gone any better. Only downside is that we didn’t get our waiters name, he was welcoming, entertaining and patient! Thank you for making our dinner very special; we can’t wait to return!!

Although I’ve lived in Portland for 23 years and passed this place hundreds of times, I’d not been here before. We were not disappointed! The reputation speaks for itself. Everything from our appetizers through to the main courses were perfect. A lovely, intimate setting, and we’ll definitely come back here again!

Stopped in for Happy Hour. Cool Atmosphere with a lot of VIP Customers (some famous) Pictures on the walls. The Crab Dip was REALLY GOOD, Blackened Chicken Burger OK, and seafood Etouffee was Excellent. Waitress put in the wrong items order, but they made it right,

This is one of my go-to spots whenever I'm in the downtown Portland area. The location is rich in history and has been around since the 1800s. The food here is absolutely delicious!!! Everything on the menu is good, so you can't order the wrong thing. The drinks are good, and the people here are friendly and more than willing to make your visit a pleasant one! If you like history, good atmosphere, good people, good service, delicious food and drink, definitely stop by. You'll definitely want to go back!!! I have returned time and time again, and this location remains absolutely delicious!!!

Very old school seafood restaurant that is very good. Seafood always a little pricier but it was a birthday dinner for us. Great place with history in Portland.

Outstanding food, service and pricing. We were looking for a seafood restaurant and this one came up near the top of my search. We went during a weekday for lunch so it wasn’t busy. They serve a limited menu with excellent choices and several seafood dishes. We tried so old favorites along with some new twists and left there feeling full and happy. Our server Emily was just a delight. She was engaging, efficient and knew a ton about the menu. This was an excellent overall experience.

Holup! If you’re in Portland, you should really try this place! Like much of the area it’s in, the old buildings and architecture has been preserved and reinvigorated. Jake’s embodies that old world charm and you can feel it the moment you walk in. The bar area is incredible. The bar itself a marvel of last century woodworking. The number of liquor bottles is impressive. But it’s the art and photos that really grad your attention! There aren’t enough superlatives to do the food justice. My meal was perfect. The dining room is a whole level higher for early 20th century chic wallpaper and lighting fixtures, and a lot of art, really incredible. Do not miss it. 😉

My husband and I came here for our 1 year anniversary. It was very busy (and we were 30 minutes late for our reservation) and they still accommodated us and sat us some where quiet. The building itself transports you through time and makes you feel like Humphrey Bogart really was just there. It was also very clean inside. From the host to the servers, to the manager on duty (thanks so much Cindy) that were incredibly friendly and attentive. We had their clam chowder, seafood fettucine, flat iron steak, cheesecake, pomegranate palmer, an old fashion, and a lovely glass of Pinot Grigio that was recommended by our server, Jacoby. The food was delicious and cooked just right. Everything was top notch. I would highly recommend them for your special day and we will most definitely be back. Also a special thank you to certain somebodies that got us the reservation and made the night special. You know who you are!!

Highly recommend. This place has been around for over a hundred years for a reason. We were seated in an alcove that sat 6. It is pricey. For six of us to eat, appetizers, drinks and dessert we were in well over $300. Favorites were french onion soup, fish and chips and the cod with crab and shrimp. Fish & chips is lightly breaded and very tender. Not a single dish we wouldn't recommend. Historic Portland seafood right in the heart of downtown.

Went here 7/23/2022, honestly, most amazing seafood I've ever had! I absolutely love the aesthetic of the place. The staff are dressed in the most amazing, classy outfits. I love how nice our waitress Natalie was! She was on it with the martinis and food. She checked up on us quite a bit, super polite woman. I came here for my birthday and they gave me a free piece of flour -less, dark chocolate cake with a bitter rasperry syrup. It's on the expensive side, but it's worth it. They treat you very very well.

Welcome back to a time when dining out was a special event. Jake’s has all the stuff that makes a person enjoy shelling out their hard-earned bucks and feel generous and gratitude for being so well taken care of. Servers have panache and an ear to the ground. Want to know about nightlife? Done. Local haunts, done. What to order curated by knowledgeable staff, done. Atmosphere screams personal engagement. Guests in the bar mingled amongst each other, shared stories and dined like kings. Drinks were generous club pours and bespoke martinis with blue cheese-stuffed olives flowed like wine, each sip stinging the sweet slurp of oyster liquor and vibrant mignonette. Succulent Dungeness crab and gloriously creamy Alfredo paired like poetry to the palate. Prepare to be pampered. Prepare for a food coma. Prepare to be satisfied. For our epicurean evening was the main event. We were spent, satisfied, elated and wrapped by the warm embrace of an excellent evening. The perfect setting for a successful date.

Enjoyed spicy chilled prawn appetizer. 1lb was perfect for 2 people 2nd visit for happy hour Great items on the happy hour menu! We had mussels, crab dip, calamari. Great for two people. We also did a pound of crawfish and dozen oysters on the regular menu. Yummy spice flavor to crawfish. Crab dip was the best for the price. Service was slow though…. 3rd visit: came here for our anniversary. Had the crab tortellini and seafood bouillabaisse. Everything tasted fantastic! 4th visit: we sat in a new area this time. I do admit it’s cool the residents actually pretty big, but at the same time has the feeling of a smaller restaurant. The wood benches aren’t the most comfy though. It was seafood night with scallops, crab, oysters, and the special swordfish. Everything tasted great. I like the crab toppings and sauce on the swordfish. Potatoes are a little over mixed in my opinion.

This place has been around since 1892 for a reason. We had an old-school awesome lunch on a quiet Monday with Paul the bartender. He was perfect - guiding us through the menu, history, and neighborhood. We started with a half-dozen oysters that were so fresh and icy cold, followed by perfectly crispy and moist crab and shrimp cakes (meaty and not just breadcrumbs). The Caesar and cup of clam chowder were good. And, then we had more oysters for dessert lol. Next time, and there will be a next time, we’ll have to try the famous key lime pie. If you get a chance, don’t pass up Jake’s and walking around the Pearl District!

Wow! You can’t get much fancier! The plush curtains were a fun time to open and shut to startle the passerby’s. The waiter was so professional hand towel on the arm and all! The atmosphere was 10000000% on par and the people were so kind even the patrons because they were treated so well. The food was an absolute craving and I would love to go back again and again!

Open 130 years beautiful interior great service and the food, excellent. Historical restaurant in Down town Portland. Breathtaking interior. Now a Landry Property, but not their usual mid end restaurant. Wait Staff in White Coats and bow ties. Attentive. Seafood and a bit of cajon menu. Celebrating Cathy's Birthday yet again with family the Salmon was delicious crab cakes with Shrimp out of this world my French Onion Soup was the best I have had in a long time. Tasted like sweet onions with excellent cheese toppers. My Seafood fettuccine had so many scallops and shrimp, I swear it was more than the pasta. To full for dessert, but the menu was great. Z must stop in Portland

Yivheniia is awesome. She’s very sweet and does her job really well. She’s been working here for at least a year because we had her as a server last year around this time. The food is very yummy and the vibe is very old timey but so cool. Lots of wall decor to look at :) The dessert is quite yummy as well!!

great dinner here. atmosphere and vibe of the place was really cool to us as british tourists. I had the fried brie to start which was tasty and my partner had the calamari which seriously was probably the best we've ever had - not too much breading and cooked to perfection! my partner had the steelhead which he enjoyed and I had the seafood fettuccine which was as good as it sounds! would recommend

We were party of 4 without reserv and we were seated at backbar for dinner. Daniel/ the Bartender took care of us and did amazing job. First experience at Jake's/ Dung Crab App was amazing and dinner and service were superb. Will definitely come back the next time we visit Portland.

A Portland institution that occupies the corner frontage a a city block. From the outside the new is loud, yet inviting. Looking in through the broad glass windows reveals a bustling vibe. There are 3 different seating ambience. Bar Counter, Bar seating and Fine dining (think white tablecloths) if you want a more romantic feel. The menu is 95% seafood. A fair amount of salmon and fish native to the pacific northwest... but there are surprises scattered throughout. A nod to creole with ettouffe. Escargot snuck in. Dover sole on the menu. And a healthy sprinkle of dungeness crab Oysters were on point. Wine list was adequate the recommended dish was a little on the heavy side. Will definitely return, but this time in the quieter section and will look for a simpler preparation of the fish.

A Portland classic in downtown. Old school rustic atmosphere, with a rocking old wooden bar. Solid seafood-heavy menu, well-mixed drinks and a good happy hour. Our calamari app came out just right, not too spongy, not overfried and with good sauces to pair with. Dungeness crab cakes also very tasty. Our server was on point, friendly but not pushy; there’s good energy at this place.

Very good seafood restaurant. Charming decor, kinda old fashioned restaurant vibe. Fairly large place, booths and tables. Some outside seating. Food was very good. We had the crab shrimp stuffed halibut, excellent! I had the crayfish shrimp chicken kinda stew with rice. Spicy but very good. Service was professional. Place reminded me of an old restaurant on the east coast. Definitely a place to try!

B

Came here first night into town for a date night. The restaurant had a good vibe inside and service was great. I just didn’t think the food was anything spectacular and having a menu that lists fresh fish would have been great. Would still come back and recommend as a good spot

Solid Portland tradition. The food is good. The service is good. There is nothing hugely special about the place, but it is a Portland staple and a pillar of the community. Something to be said about longevity and tradition. The seats are super uncomfortable. The desserts are better than the entrees. There is nothing bad about the place but nothing fantastic either.

We had 6pm reservations for Thanksgiving dinner here. We did not get seated until closer to 6:30. We were not informed on what the hold up was but I assume they overbooked or maybe didn’t calculate how long people would be sitting and dining. We have been here for Thanksgiving since my son was 6 months old and have never had this issue. When we arrived, there was a huge cluster of people at the hostess stand and I overheard them say they still hadn’t seated all of the 5:30 or 5:45 reservations. Maybe they were under staffed? We noticed several tables were empty but not cleaned yet. Once we were seated, service was great. The three of us ordered: calamari and crab article dip for our appetizers. Our entrees were: lobster tail, crawfish penne and sautéed Dungeness crab legs. I think Dan and Louis’s Oyster serve a much better calamari appetizer. The breading here just kept falling off and the calamari was not tender. The rest of the food was delicious. However, my 13 year thinks that Irish lobsters are better!

B
BPixie

Pros: Great ambiance & service. The escargot & mashed potatoes were delicious. Cons: Salmon was overcooked. Etouffee was flavorless and had too much pepper. Calamari was rubbery. Crab tortellini was underwhelming. Specialty cocktails are wildly overpriced for the unimaginative drink variations that they are. I haven’t been back to Jake’s in 10 years and I’ll probably wait another 10 to go back.

K
Kelsey Hatch

We ordered a delivery, we got the crab cakes, those were good! We also got the clam chowder which was also good! My husband liked the grilled salmon. I got the mustard crusted salmon and it was really strong, it tasted like horseradish and made my nose burn.

Had a reservation for 7:00 on Valentine’s Day. Was told they were running 40 min behind when we checked in, and had to awkwardly stand in the entrance (with little to no room) with 30 other people and wait for our table. They can’t book so many reservations if they are at risk of running behind. This was not a great experience for my wife and I. For this late of service they should have at least comped an app or desert but it felt like they prioritized profit over good service. Once seated our server was great.

T
Teresa Hutchens

Our first time here. Came to celebrate my 60th birthday. We came with high expectations based on reviews from friends and online. I ordered the pan seared cod which was cooked beautifully but had no seasoning and the blurred blanc tasted off. I could not eat it and so they kindly took it off our bill. My husband's fish and chips were dry and overcooked, but he still ate them. However, our cocktails and mocktails were made to perfection. The manager did come to us and apologized and appreciated our feedback. For your birthday they only offer you 2 choices from the dessert menu a flour less torte or creme brule which I am not fan of either one. So the manager said I could have my choice off the whole dessert menu so I chose the raspberry covered cheesecake and it was OK. It was a disappointing celebration.

J
Juan Orozco (J.R.)

Would’ve been a 2 star but thankfully the Manager was apologetic and compensated us for the service issues we had. For context we went on Thanksgiving Night, so it was definitely busier. Our main issue was inattentive service which felt unacceptable even with the busy night. Our service was extremely slow and we did not get any service (order not taken and no waters given) for nearly 30 minutes after being seated. It basically felt like we were put in the back and forgotten about. It was especially frustrating when there was a table seated by us when we got our orders taken, and when we got our food 30 minutes later, that table got their food right after we did. Our server also barely interacted with us and did not really apologize for the inattentiveness and wait time. The food was good, and the seafood dishes are definitely portioned well, they definitely don’t skimp out on that. Thankfully the manager was very accommodating and receptive to the issues we had and we really appreciated it. Thanks to that, I’d definitely be interested in giving the place another try. Also very beautiful interior.

I am so disappointed. First timer family of 5 . Went there Feb 7 2026 to celebrate two birthdays we get there and they sit us in a room the size of a bread box. Which wasn’t that big of a deal because we could look out. It took our server a longer that Normal weight between water, cocktails, appetizers, dinner. I don’t believe it was his fault. I believe it was whoever was creating our plates and drinks.. We got a couple of appetizers calamari and a lobster dip. The calamari comes out and it literally has the baby octopus deep-fried the whole entire body.. Our drinks come I will say the espresso martini was fabulous actually had two of those personally. My son and his girlfriend ordered patron margaritas and they were absolutely horrible. It wasn’t the alcohol. It was the mixer made it so tangy. They didn’t drink those. Dinner was decent however I just expected so much more out of this place at the end of the night my son ended up paying the bill and it was $407. That’s before we put in a $60 tip. Needless to say, we will not be returning. I don’t know if the quality of a food was a lot better a while back but never again will I spend $400 or even two dollars at Jake’s

My husband and I came in for our birthday dinner on November 28th 2025, as we do every November. We came in for happy hour at 3pm. Sat at the bar, were served drinks and asked to see a happy hour menu. The bar tender was a middle aged woman with glasses and a younger new guy who said he recently started there. We asked the woman a couple times that we wanted to order food. She ignored us. Finally she says that there's a problem ordering happy hour and walked away. After trying to get food ordered for almost an hour the woman bartender told us we cannot order happy hour food. This confused us both. I stated to the bartender that the rest of the customers have ordered their happy hour food and were eating. And, these customers came in long after us. Why weren't we getting to order and eat. She just continued to say they was a problem. I am a white 60 some year old woman and my husband is a 60 some year old mexican descent. We both truly feel like this was racially motivated from the woman bartender. Our drinks were comped last night, I walked out in tears. Gee, thanks for the lovely birthday dinner for my husband and I. That we never got to have. She needs to be reprimanded for her extremely bad actions. This is not something that we take very lightly. Jakes, come on. Do better!!! I would like someone affiliated with this company to please respond to this review and I WILL respond back.
