Such a delicious spot in the small town of portola! Great service, great price, and delicious food! Very vegan friendly! I odered a super veggie burrito without sour cream and cheese, it was an absolutely delicious and filling lunch! Next time I’m in the area I will definitely be back!
Clean. Service was friendly and quick. Food yummy. Green and red salsa were very good. Will come back for sure.
Authentic Mexican food that is delicious and prepared with care. I decided to rewrite this after seeing a review that basically said "I had one thing and it was great - 4 stars" uh, wut, mate? So it inspired me to give more info on this lovely place with great food and people; go ahead, read on. I usually order pick up from here but have also dined in with family. Each time I've been treated to a great meal, and have been impressed by the flavors. Whether it was the pork Chile Verde, Chiles rellenos, burritos, tacos, tortas or anything else, the food has been fantastic and the people working the counter/tables have been friendly. It's a small business, so temper your expectations on speediness. It's worth it! I like to pick up because it's usually at least a 10-15 minute drive, and they tell me it'll be ready in 20; by the time I get my act together to get there, the food is ready, so I can just trek back home to enjoy a good, authentic Mexican meal. Which reminds me - Rico's is the real Mexican deal. I like the other place too, and it is good, they just have a slightly different style and influence from El Salvador so you can get pupusas and other dishes not available at Rico's because... Well, why would they! Case in point: the Chiles rellenos are more like scrambled egg-covered compared to Rico's fluffier, lightly egg flavored, delicious batter. I make my own at home with Rico's method and find it absolutely superior (look up Rick Bayless' method if you're a daring/adventurous cook). If I wanted scrambled egg-covered Chiles rellenos... Meh, but I never do, so I just don't order that. Anyway, if you're looking for more off-the-taco and burrito typical stuff, try the Pozole or the albondigas, both are delicious. Need more "weird" stuff normies are too pollo to eat? Try the tongue torta, or the menudo (tripe soup) and you'll walk out full and happy you did. The ambiance is ok, but compared to the other more claustrophobic, low-lit option, we'll ... I'll stick to pick up! Overall, though, I highly recommend this place, 3 stars! Nah, nah, I kid, this is definitely a 5. Keep doing a great job!
This place is awesome! I went here with my family and the food was so good! Best fajitas I've ever had! I also tried some of my husband's super California burrito and that tasted amazing as well. Super impressed.
Cute small town dinner with yummy food. They were busy on arrival, as it's very limited on choices to eat but they figured out how to sit our party of 11 with a short wait. So we were impressedand thankful for their service. THANK YOU
This is the real deal. Fish and shrimp tacos with coleslaw and salsa on real corn tortillas were amazing. Fast service and welcoming atmosphere.
Super burrito was awesome!! One of the best. Friendly people and great food!! We arrived during the Big Boy visit and they were great!
This place was absolutely amazing! The food was so tasty and the service I received from Diogo made this experience even better. I highly recommend trying this spot for some authentic Mexican food.
Truly authentic Mexican food! The birria tacos are really good as well as their burritos. We definitely make the trip to Portola for this restaurant.
Amazing Mexican food for a great price! The service is really good too :) I tried the super California burrito with shrimp and it was fantastic! My husband went with the margarita burrito and he really liked it (I didn’t get to try so I guess he must’ve!)
Great food and service. We will stop again next time in the area.
The salsa was the best I’ve ever had. I could not get enough of it. We loved everything there, we’ll definitely have to go back!!!!
They have expanded since the last time I went in, there is now much more seating to be able to have a sit-down meal which I appreciated. Food was really good and filling. It was busy, but with more seats now, it wasn't so busy that we felt rushed to give our seat up to other people. It was nice being able to go there for dinner with a friend and sit and talk for a while.
Great family owned and run. Can get busy worth the wait. Super friendly staff
Tonight was my 1st time to Rico's. It is the best Mexican food I have had in at least 10 years. I've driven by it for the last 9 months and tonight was the 1st time I stopped. I can assure you that I will be stopping there at least once a week to enjoy true authentic Mexican food
This place is rediculessly awesome. The owners are just amazing too. I wish they had another branch in Quincy. I could live off this food.
Absolutely delicious food and excellent service!!! We will definitely go again!
A good lunch with excellent service.
Super friendly people they were able to get our party of 15 in with short notice. They're service was outstanding!!!
Excellent place! Highly recommend. Super Burrito is fantastic with really good flavor (asada).

Visited with a group of eight. Food was excellent and the service prompt. The portions size was generous and the pricing reasonable. Will definitely visit again.
Carne Asada California Super Burrito- SO GOOD. One of the best I’ve had in CA, huuuge portion with perfectly balanced layers of meat, fries, guac, and cheese. Not super cheap for a single burrito- but sharing one was plenty for me and my husband to enjoy and feel quite full. Would return for this burrito!!! Plus- the guy who took my order on the phone and cashed me out when I picked up was so, so courteous and pleasant.
We just had Rico's cater a pre-wedding party for 150 and they did an awesome job. The food was delicious (carnitas and chile verde). They arrived on time, their team was professional and friendly and there was plenty of food. Nothing but compliments all weekend from our guests. Have also has lunch there on two occasions and their food is excellent. Wish we had this restaurant in the Bay!
The best pozole I’ve ever tasted, perfectly seasoned. Very kind and generous family business. A great part of Portola well worth a visit!
Rico's is one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants ever! I first tried their beans and rice at a friend's party years ago and have been hooked ever since. I love the tostadas - my favorite. My husband and I also enjoy super burritos and the chili relleno is amazing. Everything they offer is delicious, everyone who works there is friendly and helpful, I just love Rico's!! Highly recommended!
My new favorite place for Mexican food! The salsa was delicious and was not blended (kills the flavor in my opinion), the shrimp tacos were THE BEST I ever had, and the rice and beans were awesome too. It was super busy at noon and the waitress still managed to be super fast and extremely friendly 🥰😍 Highly recommend!
This is the third time I've been here. I eat here everytime I work up this way. Hospitality is great, and the food is amazing. Definitely recommend eating here.

The food is very good the prices suck the burritos are the size of taquitos not even joking even the super burritos I asked for a side of the fresh pico they give for free with the chips when you sit down to eat and 4$+ and it’s in the container the size of a small ranch 4$ for something they give for free but Togo it’s half the size and 4$!!!
I tried their chiles rellenos (my favorite) and was a little disappointed. The cheese was not melted at all, but the mole it was sitting in made up for this as it was quite flavorful. On the side I also had a taco with burria. It was on the bland side and the sauce tasted more like meat oil. However they did have tamarind jarritos which is difficult to find. The waitstaff was very good.
We enjoyed our lunch. Carne asada and chile verde tacos. Extra cost for additional chips and salsa. Chile Relleno burritos are good. Great food.
Nice dining area with bright colors and decor. The chairs at the tables are very comfortable. They had some Mexican music playing to set the mood. We were given fresh chips and a very good salsa. I ordered the Wet Super Burrito. It was a lot of food, and very tasty. All of the tables were full, and there was only 1 waitress. She did a great job keeping up!
They're so nice, it's clean, and the food is good. I always get tacos, but I'm sold on the Birria. 😋
For it not being Arizona Mexican food it was pretty good. Because I’m from Arizona I’m pretty picky on quality of the taste. Definitely would eat there again.
All I had was a chicken burrito, so I can't give a comprehensive review, but it definitely hit the spot at the time. On a side note, lettuce is a welcome sight in super burritos that doesn't seem to be included a lot.
Neat place that has solid texmex. Great drinks and friendly service.

Every time I eat here, I am reminded why I say that I won't eat there again, however I try to support local business. I asked for just ground beef & cheese taco, nothing else on it. What I got was ground beef with onions & other vegys in it. I don't eat onions or carrots in my tacos. I brought it to the waitress's attention & the manager didn't offer to make it right or bring me something else. My wife had a beef burrito bowl which she can make better at home. For what the food is, the menu is very over priced. Nothing beats Los Dos Hermanos in Sierraville!! Sorry
First off…. the restaurant was clean, windows clean, bathroom clean! 👏👏 Salsa was fresh, chunky, home made, chips were good, fresh and crunchy. I ordered lunch, Chili Verde. It was ok, the meat wasn’t soft and succulent. It was obviously cooked ahead of time as you could tell by how dark the meat had oxidized on the outside. The verde sauce was pretty basic. Rice and beans pretty basic. The tortillas were great, hot and tender. My wife ordered the chicken tamale plate, again pretty basic. The waitress was quick and efficient. Overall an unmemorable culinary experience. But it gets the job done if you’re hungry.
Decent food. But don't call in an order unless you have time to wait around and double check to make sure you got everything you paid for. We've been jipped a number of times and have yet to receive reimbursement or the food we ordered and paid for that was forgotten.. THEY DON'T GIVE CHANGE!! BE PREPARED WITH THE EXACT AMOUNT YOUR ORDER COSTS, OR YOU WILL BE FORFEITING THE REMAINDER OF THE CASH YOU HAVE. don't get me wrong.. I tip when the food and service is decent.. But unfortunately that isn't always the case here.. it's hot and miss.. one day it's great.. The next you're less than pleased with the food quality, as well as the service you received that day..
The service is wonderful and the environment is nice and welcoming, but the food isn't all that great. The rice was extremely dry and the beans were basically soup and my whole plate was just bland. The meat looks like it has seasonings but it didn't taste like it. I used to love this place when I was younger but now there's no good Mexican restaurants in town.
I have eaten here many times and generally it's decent. Last night I had a $16.00 Carne Asada Super Burrito that had meat the size of fine bread crumbs. It was like a meat slurry left over from all day of cooking meat on the flat top. They do this type of thing off and on and it really takes away from when they do it right. Whoever made my meal should show more pride in what they are serving.

Not gonna lie for being mexican food being cooked by mexicans its not the greatest. Their tacos have hardley any flavor and are extremely greasy the tortillas arent cooked all the way. The only thing good is the salsa. Ive had other dishes there that werent that good as well. O think im gonna stick with the mexican restaurant out in sierraville
The waitress (owner) doesn't write down your order which is fine however when she brings your bill there is just a total to pay. Two times our bill has been more than what we ordered. You need task for a receipt with everything written down so you know you are paying the correct price.
Stopped in Rico's for lunch enroute to a wedding venue. Unfortunately we were underwhelmed and surprised by the the prices. Lunch for 2 was $57. A bottle of Modelo was $7.99, a glass of Coke was $4.99. A side order of rice and beans was $7.00. The food was average and the restaurant was unairconditioned. I am normally a person who tips at least 20%, but at those prices, I felt I left the tip within the high cost. I will not be returning.

This place used to be great, but I just picked up a to go order and my $15 "super" burrito was not super. I got a small spoon full of meat and the rest was beans and rice. Definitely not going back. The total cost of my burrito couldn't have been more than $2.
My husband went here tonight to pick up dinner. The wait was 35 minutes and they told him that after he paid. He asked for a refund because that is a ridiculously long time to wait for takeout and they didn’t know how to give him a refund. I don’t understand how the wait time can be triple that of an average wait at comparable places. We could go to a sit down restaurant and get our food in half the time and be done eating it in almost as much time as it took just to get the food. Not sure if we just caught them on a bad night or what. We usually order ahead and pick up so this is a first.
We were staying in town for work and went to Rico’s for dinner. For a chimichangas with rice and beans and 6 flauntas Ala Cart. chips and a side of guacamole. $76.00 😳 They forgot our rice and beans and charged 14.00 for a 1/2 cup guacamole. The flauntas were burned to a crisp and drowned in sour cream to try to hide it. No guac with it. We went to 2 other food places in town and spent 1/2 of that for more food. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Price gauging!!!
