Early New Year’s Eve dinner was wonderful. Remy, our waitperson, was sensational. She was attentive , professional and fun!!The food was superb. I had the baked stuffed lobster-actually two, 2lb. Baked stuffed lobsters because a three pounder was not available. It was sublime. The bartender was spectacular-he chatted with my husband about a drink and even went through the process by of to expertly make one. It was a fantastic experience!!
Went for Valentine’s Day weekend and it was great! We were ~5 minutes late for our reservation and got seated immediately. We ordered some of the appy hour items and loooooved them. When we ordered the waitress asked if we were splitting the dishes (we were) so she had the kitchen plate them in two half servings. She was fantastic and we will absolutely come back :) & the raspberry sorbet was amaaaaazing!
Providence Oyster Bar is a go-to spot for fresh seafood and a lively atmosphere on Federal Hill. The raw bar is a highlight — the oysters are consistently fresh, well-shucked, and nicely varied. Service is generally friendly and attentive, especially during happy hour, which is popular for its oyster specials and upbeat vibe. It can get busy and a bit loud during peak times, but that energy is part of the appeal. Providence Oyster Bar’s happy hour is one of the best in the city. The buck-a-shuck oysters are fresh and well-shucked, and the discounted appetizers make it easy to enjoy quality seafood at a great value. Overall, it’s a reliable choice for seafood lovers looking for quality oysters, good drinks, and a fun dining experience in Providence.
What a great and delicious find. As turned out, we visited during the happy hour which included a pretty big selection. We got different types of oysters, sushi, clams, and the most amazing calamari (we even got a second order to go). Everything was fresh and really tasty. Service was friendly and good. Would definitely recommend and would come back if back to Providence.
Remi was an amazing server! She was attentive without being overbearing, incredibly friendly, and made the entire experience feel effortless. Her menu recommendations were spot-on and really elevated our meal. She checked in at all the right moments and genuinely made us feel taken care of. You can tell she truly cares about her guests. We’ll absolutely be asking for Remi again, she made our night!
Providence Oyster Bar —no crumbs left behind! 🦞🔥 Before leaving Rhode Island, I had to try a real New England lobster roll, and let me tell you — Providence Oyster Bar did not miss a beat! The lobster roll (hot and buttered, of course) was fresh-fresh — sweet, tender, buttery perfection on a toasted bun. I’m not saying I enjoyed it, but my empty plate said it all. 😂 Special shoutout to our amazing waitress, Joy, who lived up to her name — friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations. The service matched the food: excellent! If you’re in Providence and want a taste of coastal heaven, this is your spot.
On a picturesque Sunday afternoon, we had the pleasure of dining at the Providence Oyster Bar, perfectly timed with the lively street festival taking place just outside. With the roads closed to traffic, the atmosphere was vibrant and inviting, allowing us to enjoy our meal al fresco beneath the comfort of a shaded tent. The ambiance struck an ideal balance. It was bustling with energy from the festival, yet relaxed enough to savor each moment of our lunch. We began with a half dozen impeccably fresh oysters, brimming with flavor and expertly shucked. This was followed by a warm, hearty bowl of clam chowder that felt like a true taste of coastal New England comfort. The highlight of the meal, however, was their decadent lobster scramble paired with perfectly seasoned home fries; a dish that beautifully showcased the richness and freshness of the region’s seafood. From start to finish, our experience was elevated by the attentiveness of the staff, whose timely service and warm hospitality made us feel genuinely welcomed. The menu itself is impressively extensive, offering a variety of dishes that cater to every palate, ensuring there’s always something tempting to try. Our lunch at the Providence Oyster Bar not only surpassed our expectations but also offered a delightful glimpse into what dining on the East Coast is truly all about! Fresh flavors, inviting atmosphere, and gracious service. Without a doubt, we will be returning on our next trip to Rhode Island, eager to relive the experience and discover more of their offerings.
Great place for people who love seafood! I’ve been coming here for years. Happy hour times are the best (you’ll probably end up paying double your tab price if you come after that) We needed a reservation for the time that we came. They have the best valet that are super efficient and friendly. If you’re not a huge seafood person, they have options.. but they aren’t amazing; I would suggest elsewhere unless everyone else wants here.
POB is one of my favorites on Federal Hill. It’s consistent, great service, and the best Happy Hour. Steve makes the best Blood Orange cosmo.
Had a hankering for a lobster roll after the Bills comeback V on Sunday. Took the crew in and we slaughtered 7 rolls with ease. Fun spot, great service. Fire!
Lobster rolls, Tiramisu, Crème brûlée was an absolutely delicious dinner. 🤤 Remi was also an amazing waitress!
I’ve been here a handful of times and always have had a great experience! The food is phenomenal, the service is amazing, and it had a great atmosphere. The last time we went the manager checked on our table often and our server was very attentive. Definitely recommend the lobster roll, calamari, and lobster mac and cheese.
exceptional service!! nice food, looks like a happening local spot. got the biggest poke bowl
I was visiting Rhode Island with my wife and learned of this restaurant through her daughter and I tell you what a great place for fresh seafood and great service the restaurant was busy so we requested to be sat at the bar. In the mean time we both had a delicious Margarita prepared by (Steve) who was very professional and kept us up to date on our seating arrangement after a bit of a wait we we're seated , both Steve and Adam were great, very knowledgeable and provided Exceptional Service... whenever we're back in Rhode Island, I definitely will be back to visit.
Was able to walk in, the raw bar was a little behind, but we were taken care of with our beverages and offered a cup of soup. The ambiance of the place is beautiful, classy and welcoming. The food was delicious! We got raw oysters, cherry stone class, cocktail shrimp. The spicy tuna roll was a nice add to our meal. We also got the fried scallops (small, but sweet), the mussels (oh my, don't skip this), and the lobster wonton. Overall, it was worth and the price wasn't really bad. I would come back. The drinks are on point. Black and bleu martini with handstuffed gloves, chefs kiss.
The best spot on the block if you ask me! The poultry store next door recommended us there. We went there twice. Drinks are amazing. Food was great. Service 10/10. They had us feeling good all night!
My husband and I are visiting RI for the first time, so everything was very new to us. We decided to try Providence Oyster Bar because it was near our hotel and the reviews looked great. We made a reservation for 20:00 and upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and seated right away. We went on a Monday evening yet the restaurant was beautifully busy and bustling. As a former hospitality staff member, I love seeing restaurants hustle with such swiftness and finesse. The ambience was great, and the food was better. The best part of our experience, was our server, Mackenzie. She gently guided us through the menu and sufficiently answered all my questions (because I’ve never had raw oysters before!). She even went above and beyond and gave me her recommendations for other Rhode Island touristy stuff. We left more than satisfied. Restaurants like this are hard to come by. I felt like I haven’t had a dining experience like this in a while. From the delicious food to the excellent service, I can definitely say I left in a euphoric state.
This is a go to spot for fresh oyster with a decent selection and changing. We had late dinner service was slow from the kitchen due to time but our waitress was amazing although she had way too many tables. The cioppino had good taste but fish was overcooked. The lobster roll hot and buttered for an add on of $5 was good but was sitting little too long to come out. But all in all food was ok..!!
Service here was amazing! Ordered a dozen of oysters (mixed) and the Chronic roll. I could not find a single oyster that l liked over another. As far as the roll, it was DELICIOUS! I most certainly will be back on my next visit.
Hands down this was the best meal that we’ve had in a decade. Joy was an amazing server with the best recommendations. This will be our new Friday night place!!
Had the dinner special for restaurants week and it was such a delicious meal! The oysters were some of the best I have ever tasted, and the swordfish was cooked to perfection. The best part of the meal, however, was definitely the Pistacchio Cake! I highly recommend this restaurant!
Oysters! Bartender was on point. Very attentive, was open to carrying conversations making you feel right at home. Water was almost never empty. Enjoyed oysters Rockefeller and some fresh sushi. Was the perfect bite to eat! Highly recommend. Love this area of Federal Hill
I had an incredible birthday celebration at the Oyster Bar! Huge thanks to Adam, Marcus, and their amazing staff for making my evening so special. The atmosphere was lively, and The chocolate cake was a decadent birthday treat that truly topped off the meal. They were also very accommodating with my lobster linguini, which was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed meeting new people who joined in celebrating with me. Overall, it was a fantastic experience filled with great food, good vibes, and wonderful new connections. I can’t wait to come back!
Had dinner with my wife here last night. Walked in and got a table right away. This was our second time here. We are from Virginia Beach and we fell in love with the Lobster 🦞 Roll with butter the first time we were in Rhode Island. We had to come back! This restaurant is amazing. Service is phenomenal and the food speaks for itself. If you’re in the area looking for a good lobster roll stop by here 💯!!! The wasabi calamari is also to die for. It’s not hot like straight wasabi so don’t let the title shy you away!
This is really one of a kind place to be. It’s not for every day. But when there is a special occasion and the budget alows it this is highly recommended treat. The lobster is plain awesome. Everything else is of super high quality. The place is visited even on a Monday evening off season for a reason. Look at the pictures and enjoy yourself if you can.
We hosted our annual office Christmas lunch here. The food and service were fantastic. The raw bar was the star of the show. The staff was super attentive and friendly. All in all it was a fantastic lunch and we will be returning.
Providence Oyster Bar is a place I frequent often, and it consistently delivers an exceptional experience. It’s a truly classy, high-end bar and restaurant with a refined atmosphere that still feels warm and welcoming. The food is excellent every time—fresh, well-executed, and thoughtfully prepared—and the service is attentive, cordial, and professional without ever feeling stuffy. A special mention goes to the bartenders, Adam and Steven. They are outstanding—personable, entertaining, and extremely knowledgeable. They have a way of making everyone feel welcome while maintaining a high level of professionalism, which is not easy to do. Their skill behind the bar and their ability to connect with guests genuinely elevate the entire experience. They are, without question, among the best in the business. Providence Oyster Bar sets the standard for quality, service, and atmosphere. Whether for a casual drink or a full dining experience, it never disappoints.
We had a wonderful meal. The service was great. We hope to be back soon. There were a few dishes that we've enjoyed at this resturant in the past that are no longer on the menu. I would love it if they put them back in. First, they had a nice seafood fra-diavlo with pasta, and a great Chiopino.
I LOVE the Providence Oyster Bar. It is one of my happy places! The Food, the Service, the Drinks, and the Appy Hour Appetizers are the Best. The Sicilian Lemonade is my favorite drink but after trying every appetizer on the Appy Hour menu, I can't pick a favorite--they are all delicious. And then of course, there are the Oysters! Check it out--U won't be disappointed!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Providence by Bar was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was stylish yet welcoming, the drinks were expertly crafted, and everything felt thoughtfully curated. A huge shoutout to our server, Remi, who truly elevated the night. Remi was attentive, knowledgeable, and so personable—making excellent recommendations and ensuring we felt taken care of without ever being rushed. Service like that makes all the difference. If you’re looking for great vibes, amazing drinks, and top-tier service, Providence by Bar is a must. We’ll definitely be back!
We had such a nice time at Providence Oyster Bar on Saturday. We came in as a couples to celebrate a birthday. Our waitress was Joy. She was super friendly, very attentive, and was on top of all our needs. Her menu suggestions were delicious, our drinks were great and we absolutely enjoyed the appetizers and raw bar. Having a great server really can make your night, and she went above and beyond to make sure we all enjoyed our experience. We will be back, and hope she can be our waitress next time too!
I was there the other night, and had the absolute best dinner! Not only was the food so tasty, but the atmosphere was perfection. What really took my dining experience to the next level was how amazing my waitress Joy was. She was very attentive, and got every detail of my picky friend's meal correct. She went above and beyond to ensure we had the best dining experience.
Five stars isn’t enough for Connor at Oyster Bar in Providence. Connor wasn’t just a bartender — he was a full-on concierge. From the moment we sat down, he anticipated everything we needed before we even asked. It was my friend’s birthday, and he went out of his way to make it feel genuinely special, not performative or rushed. Somehow he made us feel like we had our own personal bartender while flawlessly taking care of a packed bar at the same time. Attentive, warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly skilled at reading the room. The kind of service that elevates the entire experience and makes you want to come back because of the person behind the bar. Oyster Bar is lucky to have him — Connor is a standout and the definition of hospitality done right.
Everything about this place is A1+ best of the best. Great food, great cocktails, great service. A must see if you're visiting Providence. Lovely ambience and awesome bartender. Adam! Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to RI! Will absolutely come back next time I'm in Rhode Idland! The hot Lobster roll is amazing, fresh oyster are out of this world, and Rhode Island Clam Chowder is awesome, you really get rhe clam flavor. No hiding behind fillers or mayo, the true flavors of fresh seafood come out. Cocktails were delicious and Adam is one of the best bartenders I've ever had the experience of being served by! Definitely elevated my trip from great to Out of This World!
My friend and I were in the Oyster bar on Sunday for my friend’s 50th birthday. We had Joy as a waitress and since we had never been there, she gave us excellent recommendations. She was knowledgeable. And attentive we even came back the next day to see her on Monday. Awesome service, and great food!
First timer, went for lunch during Restaurant Week. Everything was wonderful, from valet to host taking our coats and beyond. Waitress was exceptional. We ordered from limited Restaurant Week menu and were not disappointed! Will definitely return to order from full menu, which looked amazing!
My friends and I visited the Oyster Bar for the first time this past weekend before a concert, and we absolutely loved it. The oysters were incredibly fresh, and the lobster rolls were delicious. The best part, though, was Joy—her warmth and hospitality made the experience. We’ll definitely be back!
This continues to be one of our favorite restaurants. Dinner was over the top and the service was excellent. Our busboy, Mateo, was so kind and attentive. We learned it was his first day on the job!!!! Overall, a great experience and we highly recommend this restaurant.
Johanna is an absolute angel and saved our night from this disappointment of no lobster gnocchi! We came specifically for this dish but will return because of the service! All drinks were strong and delicious, good suggestions to die for. Thank you Johanna and hope to see you when we return!
Great little spot, I got both of the oyster shooters; I enjoyed the Bloody Mary one more than the Mexican. They're raw oysters were so fresh and flavorful. They were very clean, not gritty or briny. Updating my review with some photos. We went hard on the APPY HOUR deals. I forgot to snap pictures of the oysters...again! I was just enjoying them too much. I got the diver scallops done Oscar's style, which they altered to fit my gluten free diet. My husband got the Shrimp Cocktail and Lobster Bisque, the Bisque needed more sherry and they could be a little more generous with the Lobster. All he got was that tiny little bit in the photo. Shrimp Cocktail is not worth it.
Nice oyster bar on the very popular Federal Hill area of Providence We had a reservation but arrived early, service staff was able to accommodate that. There is complimentary valet parking right in front of the restaurant. There was a limited selections of draft beers, but larger selections of canned beers. Oysters and clams were fresh, shucked and prepared on site. I kinda wished there were more sauces to go with the clams or oysters, the wine and mignonette sauce was not up to my taste, but equally good. Portions were on par with the other restaurants in the area. Food was also done in a simple manner, not much cooking involved, but the freshness of the ingredients were highlighted, the way it should be. Lobster roll was phenomenal, no fillers added, basically a whole lobster with minimal prep work. Staff was courteous but very busy, you need a bit patience to get their attention. We had a good time dining in this restaurant, would recommend yo visitors looking to sample fresh New England oysters and clams.
September 2022: The Providence oyster bar has a nice area for outdoor dining. The whole section of the atwell avenue is blocked off for outdoor dining and creates a nice atmosphere with a lot of foot traffic. It really reminded me of Italy with many outdoor eateries. I enjoyed calamari with ginger, fried calamari and pickled ginger create such an interesting flavor combination. I had the rh clam chowder, I usually go for New England or Manhattan chowders, but this time I decided to try something new. The best I can say is that it felt like a healthier option. Flavor-wise I did not like it that much. The scallops main entree was fine, not great but not bad. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was very pleasant.
Excellent food. Good quality and quantity. We ordered 4 different main dishes and these were very well prepared and tasted wonderful. Had starters of Oyster, different clams. The cherry stone clams were very good. Had leather neck clams initially and subsequently ordered a second batch of different clams.
Really good, really expensive If you want really good seafood and don't care about the price, this is the spot for you. We ordered raw clams, road island calamari, road island clam chowder, clams and beans and clam linguini. All super good, was about $170. Ambiance inside is really nice as well and the wait staff is top notch.
Fresh seafood with a blast from the past 90's decor. We stopped by on a afternoon stroll past prime lunchtime for a snack. We had fresh oysters, vegan sushi roll and shrimp tempura tacos. The service was slow...maybe because it was just after the lunch rush. The seafood was fresh and overall I would say it was good but not amazing. The decor and ambiance was that of a hip 90's restaurant that could use an upgrade in the 2020's.
Mixed reviews for this place on both food and service. I came on a not busy weeknight and though my oysters Rockefeller were amazing, my blackened swordfish was dried out and tasteless. The Shanghai shrimp I ended up ordering were fabulous. With service, I had to flag down my server every time I needed anything, from ordering food to a quick question, and she walked right by me many times. However the lovely gal cleaning tables and filling waters and the nice man who might have been the manager were both super attentive and helpful and THEY noticed I wasn’t enjoying my swordfish. After notifying my server they took it away and removed it from my bill. That’s very classy, especially since it wasn’t cheap. Perhaps I came in an off night, which happens everywhere.
Overall a very good experience. My dish was very tasty and well prepared. My wife's dish, baked stuffed shrimp, was overcooked - the stuffing was burnt and the shrimp was dry. We were in a rush to get to a show, so didn't tell the server about it but in hindsight we really should have. The service was good, but the first wine we selected was not in stock. Certainly not the server's fault.
Atmosphere was good. The host and our waitress definitely needed some great old customer service skills. No smiles, no hellos, no nothing. Food was mediocre at best. Not impressed at all with this place.
Our server was especially nice but made mistakes. Our lunches took over a half hour to be served! My cousin specifically asked for her fish sandwich’s tartar sauce to be on the side, it was slathered on her fish. My hot lobster roll was not hot, had no butter on it or on the side. Portions of French fries were skimpy. The beer selection had too many IPAs. I doubt we will return 😢
We had dinner reservations last Saturday Oct 25 at 7:45. We shared this experience the following day via email to the management and never got any response or acknowledgment. Everything was fine until they gave my wife a dinner she did not order. I received mine and I began to eat as it was hot. My wife said I ordered the baked cod not the dish she was given. There was no apology, no offer of an appetizer or a dessert nothing. My wife waited 30 minutes and got nothing but the rolling of eyes from our waitress from her error. During the 30 minute wait my wife was left having spoonfuls of my mashed potatoes. There was zero sense of urgency at rectify the situation. My wife then asked for dinner to go as I was done with my meal by now. That request was received by more rolling of the eyes when we dared to ask for a to go box. Obviously management could not care less as it’s been almost a week now with no response to our email. No apologies, no explanation, just come spend your hard earned money here because that’s what we really care about. We will not be going back and will not recommend this place to anyone.
