Food was incredible! We started with the potato pancakes and applesauce, the flavor was so good and they were the perfect consistency. For my meal, I got the Erlanger Sauerbraten and my partner got the gefulltes schollen filet and they were perfect, the sauerbraten melts in your mouth. And the apple strudel was so good too, a great way to finish off a wonderful meal. Our server, James was attentive and kind, highly recommend this place for the food, the service and the atmosphere.
You're going to want to try this restaurant! Such a nice edition to the area. The menu is a tad higher-priced than average around here, but the food and service more than make up the difference. Lots of great German beers on tap, and the menu is extensive with something for everyone, including homemade German sausages of all types. Also lots of dishes that take things beyond the typical German restaurants, although those more traditional recipes are available too. We sat at the bar and Shannon treated us like family - asked our names, introduced herself and took care of us in a really warm way. We ended up following her recommendations (veal porterhouse and a horseradish brisket dish) and can't wait to come back to try the rest of the menu, all of which looked really good. The food was amazing and really well prepared. Large portions meant we had a second meal out of them both at home the next day, so that definitely made the prices more palatable. As we were having our first drink (a shared flight of four beers to try), we were surprised by the delivery of a basket of warm German pretzel sticks with a whipped honeyed butter that was to die for. With a couple of drinks, two full meals from the higher end of the price range, and a delicious shared dessert (three flavors of the most amazing mousse I've ever had), our bill was $110 for the two of us. Well worth it for the great food, the portions, the warm service and the calming atmosphere. We'll be back soon, and you should be too.
Last Saturday evening my family and I were fortunate enough to enjoy a perfect meal at Spargel on 9. The food was immaculate and the service was second to none. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and was extremely accommodating to requests.
The chef came out to explain why we should not order the most expensive thing on the menu, due to medical conditions. He proceeded to make a special salad ,not on the menu. The waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive. The food that we did order was far better than we anticipated and cannot recommend this place enough. P.S. I never write reviews, until now.
Our family always feels treated to something special when we dine at Spargel on 9. The staff is warm and above and beyond accommodating! Their authentic German food and drink are excellent!! Their menu changes from time to time, always introducing another "favorite" dish for my family... and there are many. My kids also love their menu! Spargel is also Celiac friendly. (!!) They are very careful with cross contact with gluten; their menu online gives more details on the use of gluten in their kitchen and precautions they take for cross contact). They have been wonderful!! Family favorite!!
We have visited twice now. Both times the beer has been excellent, I applaud the owner of exclusively serving quality German beer. The food is excellent and the service is very good. You can tell the restaurant was a former Outback Steakhouse but there is nothing wrong with that. The complimentary pretzels they bring to the table with whipped butter and hot honey are like crack, we always eat them all and order more to go after dinner. Overall, we’ve had great experiences so far and will be sure to make the trip out again. I highly recommend this place if you are a fan of great European beer and food.
My wife and I first dined at Spargel during the winter. My wife is German American, and we both really enjoyed the experience. For our anniversary I asked if she would like to go there for dinner. She was very enthusiastic about returning. Eating out is usually a disappointment for us. My wife is a tremendously good cook, and we usually find restaurants sub standard to what she makes at home. The food at Spargel on Nine is terrific, well worth the drive. The service though is second to none. We were treated so well. The food is not inexpensive, but I felt it was a fair price for the quality of food, the experience and the tremendous service. My wife and I will be happy to make the hour drive to eat there again, and we will tell everyone we know how well we were treated and how good the food was. Thank you for such a great place and a great experience. We were happy to spend our anniversary at your establishment.
An impromptu dinner has quickly turned into the new go to spot for the future. On a whim my partner and I decided to stop for dinner on a late Sunday evening and could not have been more impressed. Not only was our server Richard knowledgeable on the menu, but also warm and friendly, creating an inviting atmosphere. The food?? No words, but a few that come close: phenomenal, extraordinary, better than usual, not your average meal. The menu was versatile, with so many options, drinks were top notch. I have no complaints, I can't wait to come back very soon.
What a fabulous dining experience! As soon as we entered we knew it was going to be great. Decor is warm and inviting, and hostess greeted us with a friendly smile. Server was attentive and extremely helpful. Menu features traditional favorites along with some new twists, and everything we ordered was outstanding. The asparagus soup, potato-crusted halibut, red cabbage, and potato pancakes were stellar! Be sure to save room for dessert- apple strudel and rice pudding were perfection! Appreciated the vegetarian options. Highly recommend.
Excellent restaurant. Food, and service were top notch. We have dined in twice and everything was great. We had food catered for 40 people and everyone thought the food was great and there was plenty for everyone. We had sauerbraten, brats, Wiener schnitzel - chicken, red cabbage and potato pancakes. Included was applesauce and mustard. If you are in need of catering this is the place. Very reasonable and great to work with. One of my favorite restaurants!!!
I was generally impressed with the service. We were interrupted a tad too often by the waitress (I always feel if a table is in the midst of conversation, please don't butt in and ask if we're alright. Obviously, we are), but, otherwise, all staff was friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent. Portions were large, but I never mind having food to bring home. My friends and I appreciated the soft pretzel appetizers with spicy honey butter. Delicious! The drinks were quite good, as well. We went early for dinner, but the restaurant filled up quickly. I would recommend making a reservation (you can do it online, if you want). I plan to return to Spargel on 9.
Classic German food that is incredibly delicious. There were 8 of us, and there were absolutely no complaints. We tried most of the appetizers, soups, and several main dishes, along with a couple desserts and many drinks. Our server was friendly and very attentive. We will definitely be going back. Highly recommend!
Great German restaurant! Four of us each ordered a different entree and each one was delicious and Very well presented. The service was friendly and extremely helpful with our ordering. Some entrees seem a bit too pricey but all in all everything else seemed competitive. The atmosphere was pleasant but don't expect German music to accompany your experience... We enjoyed the entire meal..
Last minute stop-in at restaurant, host was able to seat 10 of us on a busy night. Food was spectacular, service was great.
Every bite of everything I ate made me say mmm. Instead of bread, you get soft pretzel sticks to dip in butter spread on a slab with spices and drizzles of honey. Heavenly. The schnitzel breading was so tasty, I could eat it by itself. Service and atmosphere was great too. I will definitely be back.
We usually like to have German food on our anniversary, however the choices of German restaurants are limited in the capital region. We found Spargel searching on line and based on their website information thought we would give it a try. Very glad we did! The service staff was very friendly and accommodating. My wife had the sauerbraten and I had the roasted pork shank. We each had a soup, pretzel bread sticks with honey butter and a dessert. Everything was delicious. We plan on going back and would highly recommend Spargel to anyone that enjoys good German cuisine. Greg M.
Growing up in a predominantly German resort area in the Catskills, I tend to be very critical of Bavarian restaurants. I was extremely happy to be surprised by the authentic cuisine offered at Spargel on 9. The tastes and smells transported me back to my childhood of annoying the chef at my family's resort. I never thought that I would taste Hungarian Goulash like he made, but I think Chef Christian's version rivaled his. Our server Mitchell, who was the bartender as well, made our meal feel like a family dinner with his banter, humor and acceptance of my skepticism of their German food. I have never been so happy to be wrong - the food and service was amazing! My only criticism would be that the decor is lacking that German feel. Maybe some steins, cuckoo clocks or Bavarian items. But that is just my 2 cents. All in all, Spargel on 9 is a must if you are in the area. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and make sure you order the Black Forest cake for dessert!
Had the sauerbraten. My dad being from Germany he would prepare and serve this on special occasions. I was hoping for a balanced dish like dad would make. Personally I feel the vinegar is too much with not enough spice or balance. The vinegar is too much so that you can't taste the meat or the red cabbage. The potatoe dumplings are too gummy. My dad always served his with potatoe pancakes. I guess I'm just spoiled. I will say the lamb appetizer was "Perfect" could have consumed the entire appetizer myself without sharing it....absolutely perfect. I'm looking forward to trying other dish's in the near future. Waitress was a 10 out of the 5 stars she was an absolute delight.
JUST GO THERE!!!! This was the best German restaurant I have been to in the 20 years I lived in the US! THE BEST!!!! The food is authentic, delishes, plenty and the ambience and service are amazing! I felt like being back home in Germany, tasting dishes just like my Oma and Mama cooked. Too bad I live 3 hours away, I would be a regular! This is a NEED TO GO food EXPERIENCE!
First time visitor to Spargel on Nine. Of note it's been a long time since I have tried German food. The host and hostess were awesome, friendly, and welcoming. Our waitress, Kelly was also awesome. The grilled smoked pork loin "Kassler Rücken Vom Grill" was perfectly cooked, as were the potatoes with the sauce. The sauerkraut was phenomenal, and I have avoided sauerkraut in the past, because of the taste, but this was excellent, tangy, slightly sour and sweet all at once. WOW! I could have a plate of it alone, that good! Also try the baked asparagus, wrapped in swiss cheese and ham with a hollindaise sause. It is delicious, perfectly cooked, tender but still had a nice crunch. The "Gemischter Salad Teller" salad is spectacular in presentation, and the house dressing is perfect, light, refreshing and does not overpower the salad.
We loved the authentic German dishes. The food was exquisite and the service was very attentive. The pork shank was fork tender and all the sauces deliciously complex. The decor added to this wonderful meal.
What a great surprise, it was my husband’s birthday so he wanted to try Spargel on 9. Not only was the food amazing, the service and the attention to detail was far above our expectations. What can we say, if you’re looking for a great meal, great service along with pleasant surroundings at very reasonable prices this is a great restaurant to try. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!! Paul and Maryann
Wow, is all I could say! Everything we ordered came out beautifully, my friend and I ordered our dinners to go and we couldn’t believe how good it was. Everything was packaged with high-quality containers, which kept our fresh food, hot! We ordered Schweinebraten, Schweine Haxe, Angus-Beef NY strip steak, and macaroni and cheese. The schweinebraten- the German pork roast, was very tender, their sauce for this plate was truly decadent. Their Schweine Haxe (pork shank) is also very good, loved the dark beer sauce! They didn’t have potato dumplings for both pork plates at the time and they courteously offered potato pancakes instead, and to our surprise, it was crispy and just as good, if not better! The 12 oz. strip steak was cooked exactly the way I asked, and the steak came with perfect grill marks. To top off our surprise, their Bavarian pretzel rolls and honey butter will absolutely make you savor your dining experience at Spargel on 9. If you haven’t had honey butter before, this place will make it your new favorite! The meal here was truly rewarding, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience!
We had an amazing meal tonight, the staff were so friendly and polite. I would recommend this to anyone interested in german cuisine.
We had catering for my father in law’s birthday for two years now. The food was delicious. My 92 year old German FIL really enjoyed it. Chris is very easy to work with. Thank you!
Wow! Wow! WOW!! From the moment you walk in and are greeted, you feel so comfortable and happy that you came. The food is off the charts! We had the mushroom soup, wrapped asparagus, rabbit, steak/mushrooms and chocolate cherry cake. With each dish things kept getting better and better!! This is a place you don’t want to miss!!!
I can't say enough good things about this great restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. The service was phenomenal—the staff were incredibly attentive and went out of their way to make us feel appreciated as first-time customers. The food is nothing short of amazing. The menu is extensive, offering authentic and hearty dishes that are absolutely delicious. The sauerbraten was hands down the best I've ever had—so tender and cooked to perfection, and as much can be said about the potato pancakes. And the German beer selection was the perfect pairing for our meal. We ended our evening with a perfect dessert that capped off a relaxed and satisfying dining experience. I left feeling content and full, already excited to come back and explore more of the menu. If you haven't visited yet, you have to try Spargel on Nine! This was easily the best meal I've had at a restaurant in a LONG time. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for first-class food and exceptional service!
We loved Spargel on 9! The food was fantastic as well as the beer. I would say the best German food I have eaten. The service was great as well. Our server was attentive and answered all our questions. We will return!
Dined here with my family recently and I have to say the German food certainly was authentic. My grandmother would have approved of the Sauerbraten! Good, hearty German food is hard to find but Spargel most definitely met my expectations. Our server (I forgot his name) was very good and offered solid recommendations for us. I would not hesitate to dine here again.
From 9/26/2024 Located on the former site of The Outback restaurant, Spargel on Nine serves authentic German food, not the kind comically envisioned by what Americans think German food is. No lederhosen, no um-pah-pah music, no chicken dance here. The sans serif font on the sign was an indication that this would be food taken seriously. “A Pure German Restaurant” this certainly was. (Spargel refers to white asparagus, a bit of an obsession for Germans) I’m no foodie, but I got a bit excited here. I ordered what was probably their signature beer, Vitus. I'm usually not a big fan of wheat beers, but this did not disappoint. All their beer comes from the worlds oldest brewery, Weihenstephan, founded in 1040. Next was a pretzel treat, which came with butter and spicy honey. Very simple, it was surprisingly good. Don't expect any ordinary salad; this one was made up of any number of fermented vegetables. If you love sauerkraut, red cabbage, etc. you will go gaga for this. For my main course, I went with the standard sauerbraten, which came with red cabbage and potato dumpling. It is prepared with Angus beef, and red cabbage made from scratch. Meat was tender as could be. Delicious. My wife had the beef brisket, served in a horseradish sauce, butter potatoes, and lingonberries (The salad came with this entree). Again, delicious. Dessert was the only thing sub-par, but only in a minor way. The Creme Brûlée was tasty but a bit runny. Owner/Chef Christian Rath and wife Courtney made the rounds with some of the patrons to make sure all was well. Service was suitably prompt, server was knowledgeable and friendly. Pricing was in line with the quality of the meal. A great article detailing Spargel on Nine and its owner can be found in The Glens Falls Chronicle.
Staying at a campground nearby and I saw this and wanted to go so badly. We went at 5p on a Wednesday and I reserved a table online ahead of time just in case, but a Wednesday in their off season, there was plenty of availability. Right away we were greeted with water and a drink menu. The waitress so very nice and patient with us. We both ordered the same German beer, Vitus in a 0.5L and it was such. Very tasty. For table pickings, we were served without asking pretzel sticks with hot honey butter. For all you people out there thinking this means it’s spicy and you can’t eat it, I promise eating the honey and the butter together you’ll never taste heat. Eat the honey alone and that’s a different story. My partner and I both ordered the pork schnitzel with a side of the mushroom Jager sauce. One with potato croquettes and mixed vegetables and the other with sauerkraut, green beans wrapped in bacon and späzle. The schnitzel was tasty, but it definitely needed the sauce on the side. Sauce so so good I could lick the bowl. Portions were huge; we had leftovers for the next day. To me personally the späzle was okay, mediocre. I feel like it could’ve had more flavor. The sauerkraut was the best kraut I’ve ever had. The green beans were just green beans with a tad of bacon. Overall I walked out so full and so content. I would come back.
We have been waiting for months for the place to open. So excited we had to go opening weekend. I was raised by a German Chef and I have missed that true authentic German cooking. I was not disappointed. The Cream of Asparagus soup was outstanding! Reminded me of my childhood! And of course I had to start off with the Saürbraten. From the very first bite, I knew it was the real deal. Not just throwing some vinegar in a beef gravy. The meat was tender and flavorful, and the red cabbage was clearly authentically home made. I don’t know how I am going to be able to try anything else on the menu! It was so good! Had to save room for Apple Strudel! And so glad we did. Another perfectly home made item that was crispy on the outside and perfectly soft and sweet on the inside. And a nice vanilla sauce underneath to add a nice touch. Atmosphere is lovely. Our server was friendly. Being raised by a German Chef … my standards are really high with German Food. And I can’t wait to go back!
You have to try Spargel on Nine! Easily the best meal that we've had at a restaurant in ages. The sauerbraten was the best that I've ever had. The herring appetizer was perfectly balanced. The schnitzel was perfect and the duck was, too We had a large group and tried a variety of dishes; all were great. We'll definitely be back!!
I've eaten a good amount of German food in my time, and this was an absolutely fantastic place. The bratwurst were the best I've ever tasted, and if the menus statement that it is is from a 100 year old family recipe, that explains why. Every bite was incredible and you can taste the love of German food the chef has put into each dish. The service was very attentive and friendly. If you enjoy German food, I HIGHLY recommend this. If you are curious about German food this is the place to experiment. If you're scared or German food, go anyway, you will be enlightened as to how good it is.
Have been trying to make the trip for a while now and decided our wedding anniversary was a perfect opportunity. Mitchell was fantastic, explaining the menu and offering recommendations. We decided to take advantage of the early bird specials. My husband chose the Hungarian Beef Goulash soup which was so think and creamy. I chose the salad which did not disappoint. For our entree - my husband had the sauerbraten with potato dumpling and red cabbage. my choice, Weiner Schnitzel with Spatzel. both were delicious finished the meal with the Black Forest Tart and Apple Strudel. what a fantastic place. we will definitely be back!!
We had a very pleasant experience celebrating my daughter’s birthday. The food was delicious but the best part of our experience was the service and attitude. When the chef Christian (hope that’s the correct spelling) stopped by at our table to double check if everything was ok I was curious and asked if there is any chance they serve Kaiserschmarrn dessert, they didn’t. I was really surprised when he came back later and said that he is making it for us. This is definitely the place I would love to come back again and again. Also, they are serving Spezi and Weissbeer, including non alcohol options and have a really good espresso.
So, I’ve read virtually every review, particularly the negative ones to try and gain a better grasp of what people’s true opinions are of Spargle on 9 before our visit. I can say this- the negative reviews are completely unfounded and lack and substance of reality. My wife and I drove out from Buffalo to give Spargle a try and it was AMAZING! Laura, our bartender/ server embodied Hospitality and could not have made us feel more welcome. Chef Chris (owner/ operator) came out to greet us and his fiancé Courtney was on point supplementing Laura’s amazing service. The food was DELICIOUS, well portioned and a great value! The drinks were also delicious and having never experienced authentic German cuisine before I can tell you we were blown away with the flavors! You can tell when a chef/owner has passion and enthusiasm… this was highly evident in our food, the high level of service and positive vibe of the staff. Great job Courtney and Chris- we will be back!!
Went here for October fest - excellent! Rayna is a great server, friendly & fast! (She is named after a character from the original Star Trek.) The food was fantastic! We had schnitzel & german potato salad and hungarian goulash soup, served in a metal mini pot with lid and it was delicious! (I had a doggy bag too). They also had a band playing german music! Totally going there again! Had a great time!
What a menu! The extensive selection of German dishes is something to behold. Absolute perfection. It's been a very long time since I could say - we Definitely Will Return
WOW! Looking for authentic, fresh, delicious German food? You’ve found it! The food is absolutely authentic and delicious! Service was on point, friendly and the portions were large! They even have gluten free options! Celebrated my 50th birthday here and was so happy! Can’t wait to return! Well done, Chef! (Sorry no photos bc we ate too fast😆)
So happy to have found this high quality restaurant in the Lake George area. It has a clean aesthetic & decor, with a very modern European vibe. The staff was super friendly, too. The menu was absolutely amazing! We had a hard time choosing the right dish but make no mistake, everything you choose will be excellent! All of our selections were winners & it’s so refreshing to have German food that is not overly Americanized and stays true to it’s authentic regional qualities. Great place!!
To name your restaurant after a vegetable is, well, unique. But then again everything about this restaurant is a bit unique. If you are used to German food you probably notice they all taste relatively the same. Slight variations. Not here. They take your traditional German cuisine and take it up a notch. This is, by far, the best German food I have had in ages....but that isn't all that is great about this restaurant... They have Weihenstephan and only Weihenstephan beers. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have variety. They have 7 Weihenstephan beers on tap. The greatest thing about this restaurant is customer service. Absolutely make sure you feel at home. The staff is kind and gracious and go above and beyond to make you enjoy your visit.
Was very excited when this establishment was announced. Excellent German food is hard to find in the area. This was a really lovely meal the flavors were great reminded me of time spent in Germany. The beer was cold and served properly. The staff was friendly and accommodating. It was nice to see the space utilized with something that I hope is there for many years. Delicious German menu with traditional and non-traditional dishes. Something for everyone.
Wow, what an amazing find, I was traveling alone and ate at the bar. Bartender was incredibly knowledgeable about food and wine menus. menu was crammed full of great choices, $20 flights of foreign wines. Specials menu included rock point oysters and bacon wrapped rabbit loin. My choice of veal cordon blue with Emmentaler cheese and mornay sauce was fabulous.
We went here on New Years Eve. It was busy, but we were seated immediately. The 4 of us had different choices, and everyone was pleased. Good choice of beverages also. We shall return!
Drove up 87 from exit 12 to check it out because I heard great things. The food was incredible, the building was clean and plenty of space, I didn't feel crowded. It brought me back to when I visited Munich a few years ago. If you want authentic German food, this place is worth checking out. I should have taken a picture, but I started inhaling my dinner the second they put it down in front me.
A wonderful find in the Queensbury/Lake George area. Have been here four times now. It is a dining experience each time. Recently I had the exquisite halibut served with rice pilaf. Fresh and flaky with the perfect crisp crust. My favorite go-to is the veal schnitzel with jaeger sauce. This season the chef prepared a special chanterelle mushroom soup that I can say without reservations is the best soup I've ever tasted. My favorite German restaurant bar none.
Large menu with lots of variety - not just German food. The pretzel rolls with whipped butter with honey we're delicious - nice touch! Presentation was great! Very large portions. Fresh tasting and delicious! Tried the Bronzino as well as saurbrauten - both excellent! Service was very good! Hugo spritz was tasty! Will definitely return!
As someone who isn’t really familiar with German food, I really liked the food at Spargel on 9. The highlight for me was the duck breast entree, that I learned is sourced from a farm in NJ. The duck was moist, juicy, tender, and absolutely delicious. Easily the best duck entree I’ve had. The other meals we ordered were also great. I didn’t expect to like potato croquettes, but they’re so good, and don’t sleep on the bacon wrapped green beans. Our table ordered a couple of trio dishes, as well, with pork, veal, and beef, and they were also good. The meat from the grilled trio was a tad dry, but still so tasty. Our server was amazing, and our interactions with other staff were also great. The chef/owner came out to ask us and other diners how our meals were, and he was such a pleasure to chat with. We will definitely be back!
My family and I loved this restaurant. To start, I ordered the spargelcremesuppe (cream of asparagus soup) and it was absolutely delicious and not too heavy. The complimentary freshly baked pretzel sticks with hot honey butter were amazing. We then shared the sampler plate that had a little bit of everything - bratwurst, knockwurst, sauerkraut, cabbage, schnitzel, pork shank, etc. - all so good! Even our picky toddler enjoyed everything and had a lot of fun trying new foods! Writing this review is making me hungry and we can't wait to go back someday!
Very delicious food, learned more about the culture of German cuisine! Presenation, A+. Cocktails beautifully designed. Pretzel sticks with whipped honey butter to open the meal, terrific! My lammrücken in senfkruste was cooked little more than my liking, but still very tasty. Excellent team service! 👏🏼 Will be back!
Yesterday, came to this restaurant with my family, first time. One of the gems in the area. We had delicious mushroom soup, sausages with sauerkraft, beef on wine bran and pork. What a difference, compared to our local restaurants in NYC. Place is clean and the meat was just melting in the mouth. Atmosphere and staff were amazing
This German restaurant is incredible. I do not have enough compliments to give it. The food is fresh, inventive, and the staff is kind and knowledgeable. The fact that this is a family restaurant and everything is truly done and made with love makes it that much better. In a world where there's little finesse and many places slop anything on a plate and call it food, Spargel is an incredibly delicious and well-priced option for a night out. Also the German beer selection is top notch! We will be back.
We had our second meal here and were not disappointed. My husband's meal cordon bleau was delicious and I tried the monkfish special with pea risotto and caviar with a saffron sauce that was phenomenal!! Kudos to the chef for an outstanding dinner. We'll be back. 🍴
Raised with German parents and my Oma, we were very excited to try this authentic German restaurant… Very pleased with our experience- It’s a beautiful, clean restaurant with a great German ambience and great German music playing enough to hear it but not to loud that you can’t hold a conversation. We started off with the potato pancakes which were delicious ! My dad had the goulash soup and my mom had the asparagus soup - both so good ! And the pretzel sticks with hot honey butter that comes with your meals are delicious !!! Sauerbraten comes with red cabbage & a potato dumpling - really tasty ! We also ordered the duck platter - very good however the skin could have been a little crispier. We also ordered flounder stuffed with shrimp & scallops. Expected to see pieces of shrimp & scallops but it was very ground up and then the flounder was stuffed with that but overall it was still goid. No room for dessert : / Great service. Very polite. If you are in the Queensbury area, I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed
My husband and I had a truly spectacular dinner here last week. It was obvious from the minute I walked in that a lot of detail had been paid to every aspect of the experience. The environment is warm, inviting, and spacious, with traditional German music playing in the background. Our waitress Rayna was excellent; very friendly, helpful with answering questions, and present any time we needed something. Highly recommend requesting her if you visit. Now, for the food. Absolutely delicious! Pretzels are brought out at the beginning, accompanied by a honey butter spread; we opted to also add a side of beer cheese. The pretzels were delicious and everything I had hoped for, with a nice crust on the outside and warm and pillowy on the inside. I loved the butter, and hubby was thrilled with the beer cheese. We ordered potato pancakes for an appetizer as well. They were good and cooked well, but I would be curious to try another item next time. Our entrees that we selected were awesome! Each plate was filled with an abundance of delicious food. The chicken schnitzel was exactly as I like it, crispy and pounded very thin, and well seasoned. I always get a side of bearnaise sauce to dip it in, and that was perfect, too! Hubby ordered the strip steak, which I had a few bites of, and this was excellent too; I would recommend for sure. We ordered bacon wrapped green beans, spaetzle, and potatoes for our sides. The potatoes were so good! I will be ordering those every single time. He enjoyed the green beans, and I liked the spaetzle. I had no room left but wanted to try a dessert. I selected the rice pudding (no raisins!) and loved it. Planning to leave room next time for the apple strudel. Altogether, this is a great local option for us when we are going out to eat (not a regular thing for us, but a few times a month, it's nice to go out). We love supporting private restaurants with great food at decent prices and this one covers all of that and more. Highly recommend. It is the only option I know of with authentic and well-made German food in the area.
What a wonderful authentic place. We went with friends and had great German food. Our friends lived in Germany and said this was a great find. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Chef for coming to our table and sharing wonderful stories.
Not enough compliments to describe this wonderful restaurant. Food was above fabulous. My boyfriend and I were greeted and made to feel so welcomed. Our server Kelly was the most gracious and helpful. My boyfriend was raised in a German restaurant and he felt like he was eating his mom's cooking again. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's a definite stop for us when we're in the area. Thank you so much Trip,Barbara and Kelly for your hospitality.
10/10; if you like German food, do not pass this place up. And if you haven't tried it, you will absolutely find something you love. We had an epic meal, with next level service. Authentic flavors, made to order, with amazing beer and wine, right from Germany. I cannot wait to stop back!
Absolutely loved the entire experience. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful comfortable booths, German music playing and delicious authentic German food. Great choice of beer & wine. No typical bread basket here, fresh warm pretzel rolls with soft butter drizzled with honey. We couldn’t resist! Some appetizers we’d never heard of and absolutely loved, a kielbasa salad with sweet pickles, shredded swiss, pickled red peppers eaten with soft rye bresd. Cream of Chanterelle soup. The Bavarian sampler platter for 2 ( more like 4!) had EVERYTHING. Potato pancakes (yum!), spaetzle, sauerbraten, brats, schnitzel, et al! Desserts we took to go along with enough leftovers for another complete dinner for 2. Absolutely recommend & we will be back!
Quiet night at restaurant. Plenty of seating. Waiter was also bartender but there was no issues or delays with service. Two warm pretzels with hot honey whipped butter brought out while we decided on appetizer. Very good and not too filling. Tried the potato pancakes with apple sauce as appetizer. Crispy on outside and tender inside. Light and airy. Only complaint is a bit oily from deep frying but did not deter flavor. Both of us had the Rindfleisch Gulash, beef out of this world tender. Sauce delicious and mixing in the spatzle was heavenly. The red cabbage was surprising in that it was not sour like the jar version you get in a supermarket. This was fresh, you could pick out a pleasant cabbage flavor as well as spices. Brought home leftovers. Saved room for dessert. Ricotta and pistachio cheesecake with whip cream and fruit compote on side. Wow! The apple strudel was huge. Puff pastry shell and stuffed with apples and just enough cinnamon to please any palate.
Earlier in the summer I had noticed Spargel on 9 while driving around Queensbury but did not have a chance to dine there. Returned to the area later in the summer and not only ate there once but twice in one week because it was exceptional. The menu has something for everyone: traditional German, wild game, steaks, chicken piccata, etc. The beers on tap are from Germany. The first time eating there, I had chanterelle soup and 3 wild sausage (boar, elk, and rabbit), and strudel. The second time I had goulash soup and then brats made in house. The service was excellent. I cannot wait to go back next year. Also, they have a beer club and you get your own mug for the year.
I was hesitant to eat at a German restaurant as my family makes pretty good German food; however, Spargel on 9 did not disappoint. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the veal Wienerschnitzel and Pfannkuchen. The gemischte Salat was tasty. I loved the Spargelcremesuppe. I had to order an Apfelsaftschorle. We topped our meal off with the Apfelstrudel. We had so much food; we brought half home as another meal. Additionally, I ordered the Bratwurst plate (with substituted Spätzle) to freeze and take home to my parents in Ell Paso.
My parents and I were visiting Lake George this summer and ended up at Spargel twice. The service was wonderful, you're greeted immediately upon walking in and their servers take great care of you. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu, everything we tried is delicious! I'm especially a fan of their pretzels, the rabbit dish, and the apple strudel. The one day we went, there was even a guy playing accordion. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area!
A true Alpen food menu, full of authentic options. We enjoyed the elk carpaccio topped with pickled vegetables and a light salad. It’s a perfect light summer meal. The red cabbage with their entrees was delicious! We ate schnitzel and lamb loin. The dinner begins with pretzel buns and whipped hot honey butter. Easy to fill up on that!
Our first visit and we will be back. We enjoyed the Imported German beer on tap. Authentic German food, wonderful service, and large portions at reasonable prices. We got the house salad with pickled vegetables, the sampler and the brats and all were delicious. We've been to Germany so had high expectations and we were very pleased! A lovely evening was had by all.
First time here for restaurant week, and they did not disappoint!!!! We made reservations and were seated immediately. The restaurant was not super busy but had a few full tables and bar patrons. The lighting and music make the experience very pleasant. The waitstaff were very professional and kind! THE FOOD OH MY GOODNESS!? They start you out with pretzel sticks and whipped butter drizzled with hot honey which was delicious! We also ordered the fried brie with ligonberry jam which was very good but could have been a little more melted and served with more crostini’s. We both started out with soups, and got the Hungarian gulash soup which was loaded with tender beef chunks and seasoned perfectly…I got the Spargel soup whoch is asparagus cream and it was very tasty and creamy. For our main courses we ordered the Pork Schnitzel covered in their beer sauce with mushrooms, we chose potato pancakes and bacon wrapped green beans… it was AMAZING! I ordered the Erlanger Sauerbraten which is a marinated beef in a tasty sweet and sour demiglaze and we chose red cabbage and spaetzel and WOW it did not disappoint. We barely had room for dessert but managed to power through, we got the Chocolate cherry torte cake and the apple strudel which were phenomenal. I highly recommend this place and cannot wait to go back to try more of their impressive menu!
Wow! This is a German food experience. The menu is filled with authentic German cuisine. Absolutely fresh and delicious, this will blow your mind. They have a full bar and, of course, plenty of beer. The service is warm and friendly. The dining room is clean and comfortable with a cool new age German vibe. This is a food destination. If you live in the Saratoga area, this is worth the short trip up the North way. Pro Tip: Order the potato pancake appetizer.
Went for lunch w/ my mom and it was delicious. Lunch menu is much smaller than their dinner menu. The place is clean and the food was tasty. I had a small house salad & the sauerbraten with red cabbage & spatzle- everything was delicious. My mom had homemade brats w/ sauerkraut & home fries. Reasonably priced as well. I can't wait to go for dinner & try more dishes! I hope this place keeps up their quality of food, I think it could be and stay very successful in this area. Great Job to the staff 👏 *Edited 8/2024: Finally was able to come for dinner and it was delicious from start to finish! I added several new pictures of our meal. 5 🌟 stars! Great job 👏
It is far from the standard decor of your traditional Deutsch venue of knick nacks and traditional art on the walls. The upscale but modest approach was refreshing and comforting for the average dining experience. Being a repurposed outback steakhouse building it's hard to not see it a bit, however, layout is easy to navigate. What it might lack in flair on walls the food will transport you across the Rhine. They have all the staples one could ask and more. The herring was wonderfully prepared and a solid recommendation to open the taste buds. The wild game options are plentiful. I had the three wild game sausages which were fantastic. Prepare to come hungry or you will leave with a to go box. Great location, authentic food and efficient service.
Spargel on 9 in Queensbury is a true hidden gem for fans of authentic German cuisine. Located in what appears to be an previous Outback Steakhouse, the exterior might not scream Bavaria, but don’t let that fool you as the food inside is the real deal. The menu offers a great variety of traditional German dishes, all prepared with care and full of flavor. The schnitzels were perfectly cooked, the sausages were top-notch, and the wild game selections were a unique and welcome touch. They also have an excellent selection of German beers from Weihenstephan which really adds to the experience. The only real downside is the ambiance — while clean and comfortable, the décor still carries a bit of its former life, and a little more effort to create an authentic German atmosphere would take this place to the next level. Overall, Spargel on 9 is well worth a visit if you’re craving hearty German food, cold beer, and something a little different in the Queensbury area. Prost! 🍻
Best German food in Glen Falls area. Service was what you attentive. Menu has a good selection, including different daily specials.
The food was very good, fresh and flavorful. We ordered two seasonal mushroom specialties, the soup and veal dish and the pork shank, all were delicious. The only item we were not fans of were the potato dumplings served with the pork shank, but they were quickly replaced with another potato option that was very satisfying. The beer selection was extensive and our choices were very good. Service was excellent.
I am German and normally I do not eat at German restaurants as I can cook most dishes myself, but this one intrigued me after reading the menu. They serve so many long-prep dishes that it takes a big turnover to keep things fresh and crispy. So we waited until the summer season was over and headed over. We ended up having Hungarian Goulash soup as appetizer, Grilled Kassler Rücken, Krusten Schweinebraten, a side order of Käsespätzle, (because I love Käsespätzle and just had to try them) and Apfelstrudel for dessert. We ordered a very nice bottle of German Kabinett wine to accompany our meal. I found that flavors and spices used were very much German style. The Hungarian Gulash soup was delicious and authentic. The grilled Kassler Rücken a bit dry due to grilling it instead of baking it and serving it with sauce. The Home Fries and Sauerkraut were nice, except that the Sauerkraut had too many caraway seeds for my taste. It would improve greatly with the seeds being ground, since Caraway is needed for taste and digestion, but biting on the seeds is overpowering flavor. The Schweinebraten was delicious and the salad plate so authentically German, it reminded me of home. I don’t ever go through the trouble and make salads with so many ingredients. I gobbled it all up. Every little bit. I did not care for the Käsespätzle at all. While the texture was nice, I didn’t taste the cheese, just overpowering nutmeg spice. That was disappointing, since Käsespätzle are one of my favorite sides. The undoubtedly homemade Apfelstrudel on the other hand was divine and finger-licking good, served with a fruit compote and whipped cream. I would come back just for that. We were there early, at 5pm, and the place was pretty empty, so I cannot speak for the atmosphere. Service was fast and courteous. There are several dishes I still want to try, so we will be back, but I will stay away from sauerkraut and Käsespätzle. All in all I can say that the food reminded me of my German tastebuds, well done chef! Next on my list is the homemade red cabbage, the Haxe and the duck.
Solid restaurant to visit. Was a big fan of the beer cheese dip and the sausage with its recipe dating back to over 100 years old. The trio of medallions (veal, steak, and pork) was a big miss, in my opinion. They had a great kids menu, and the desserts were great! If I were to eat there again, I would only get the sausages and beer cheese dip. The apple strudel as well.
I grew up eating amazing, homemade german food, so I am a bit of a tough critic. We went during restaurant week. I ate off the special menu. I had goulash app that was pretty tasty. My husband had the pretzels with beer cheese (for me I would have like the pretzels hot. FYI they're not salted, which I expected but the husband wasn't used to). He had the wutscht platte and loved everything about it. I stole his sauerkraut and took the left overs home. I had the sauerbraten (one of my all time favorite dishes). For the average person this would be 5stars. I did substitute potatoes pancakes, just because that's how I am used to having them. They were perfectly golden and crispy. We both had a couple of seasonal beers and shared the apple strudel dessert. The staff was VERY welcoming and attentive. They do their best to make it an authentic, inviting space (hard to transform an Outback). Everything was clean and cozy. I am definitely interested in going back to try some other dishes. So excited to taste my food, I dug in before I took a photo.
First visit. Glad I made a reservation. It was very busy. Service was very good. We were seated right away, and the food came out fast! Definitely German food. Received two pretzel sticks upon seating. The potato pancakes appetizer was good. The Norwegian Salmon was tasty. The assorted vegetables were undercooked. The Chicken Schnitzel was very good. The spātzle was spicy, and not as expected for a German restaurant. The bill was under $80 (without a tip) for two of us, including a glass of wine Would probably go again, but don't feel the need to rush back.
We went for my husband’s birthday dinner with a party of 7. We were all very excited to try out the authentic German cuisine. My in laws are from Germany and we have had many German dishes before. Unfortunately we were less than pleased with our meals. The Sauerbraten was mediocre and potato pancakes were very greasy. Our waitress was wonderful.
