Always and consistently delicious. The addition of the wall menu items allow for more options not typically on a take out Chinese menu are fantastic!
This place has the best Chinese food in town! Every experience here has been pleasant and the food has always been delicious!
This is a terrific family owned place in the heart of Red Hook with all around great food. Quick, consistent, and the family who owns it are really nice.
Best Chinese food I've had in a long time, worth the trip!!
Very good home style regional Chinese cooking. Warm and friendly owners. Highly recommend.
Awesome food and decent prices. I drove out of my way to get here but definitely worth the trip
Food is always decent. Ignore that MetaTesticsl Terrible Mysic Masters review. Probably drives a Prius
Solid American/Chinese classics highlighted with some more specific standouts like the crispy duck, double cooked pork and other Cantonese and Szechuan dishes.
10/10 I have been going to Golden Wok for more than 15 years and they have the best food and service! A RED HOOK STAPLE !
Great food and sitting area! Wish the staff and owners would take a vacation, they work extremely hard.
I eat here almost everyday. Great value. Excellent flavor
I know the following review will likely offend some of my friends who spend $$$ at other Chinese food restaurants in the area- but Golden Wok is the best Chinese Food Restaurant in the area. It is inexpensive and dive-looking. So it is easy to expect typical oily, sugary msg american Chinese food. But that would be a grave mistake. This place is more akin to a spot in Chinatown. The food is super clean- no MSG or bad oil. The vegetables are always fresh. They make baby bokchoi and softshell crab in season. The chef is a real chef who takes great pride in his kitchen. Love general taos but hate 'breaded chicken'? This is the place to go. They make non-breaded versions of your favorites. But unique to Golden Wok, you can try a great variety of traditional Cantonese dishes. Would it be 5 stars in NYC? Come on. But I have found any place that beats Golden Wok between Westchester and Albany- not at any price point. And for the price point at Golden Wok, I will give it 5-stars all day long. Also, the owner who runs the register and takes the order might seem a little gruff at times- she is truly a sweetheart- but she does the work of three people and is usually sticking to business. If you catch them in a lul you will get to see her sweetness and maybe her husband (the chef) will come out and greet you. This place is a hidden gem in plane sight for the Red Hook / Rhinebeck area. We love Golden Wok.
Always friendly and high quality Asian cusine. I love the boneless spare ribs combo and wonton soup. Thanks for always working hard guys, support the family!
The very best asian cuisine we have ever had! Very delicious and packed full of flavor! Definitely check them out if you are passing thru the area.
Always consistently good food. Exceptional value as well. I've worked in the area the past 5 summers and this is always a highlight to go back to again and again. The people are friendly and very efficient which I love.
It bums me out to see anything but very positive reviews of Golden Wok. It’s a great family business with very good Chinese food and super nice ppl. If you’re leaving an angry review on here, you’re angry at yourself.
Great food, fast and efficient service, great prices, authentic, etc. Would highly recommend!
The best Chinese food in Red Hook area. Order ahead because this place can be a long wait during lunch and dinner time. Friendly owners! They keep the place very clean. Parking can be an issue if you are not local. Check out the parking next door, but watch out for signs due to some parking is limited to certain people.
Me and my husband have been going here since they opened. This is the BEST food anywhere. People who say otherwise are used to Lachoy from the super market.
Tried on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised! Delicious food & friendly owners! 5 stars!!
Basically a run of the mill stereotypical Chinese joint. Not fancy but good Chinese food. Never have had a bad order from here. Definitely would recommend.
The food is always delicious and the owners are just as great! The prices are a little high, but I know COVID hit them hard.
Owners are super nice, food is great. Try anything with pork, the dandan noodle soup, spicy beef... LOVE IT.
Best Tofu I've ever had period👍🏾. they tell me everything on the menu is great too but 🤷🏾♂️ idk...im vegan
I love this place. My favorites are Hot and Spicy Beef... I get #10 HOT! I don't recommend it for everyone. I love spicy. Spring rolls Orange Beef House Special Chow Mein House Special Fried Rice. Large portions terrific for sharing and/or a lunch to take to work the next day.
Golden Wok has very good fud. I have eaten there at least weekly for many years. I like the steamed vegetables, house special soup, noodle dishes and many choices not found elsewhere. Do not expect elaborate service and decore is simple. There are good views of Red Hook life out the windows..
Best local Chinese take out! Family run, food is great… If you have any food allergies or sensitivity, this is your place. They go above and beyond to prepare safe food.
Best Chinese food in the area! Everything is done so well and very consistent. Love this place! People complain about price hikes but that is every single restaurant (grocery store, retail store…. Etc!!!) these days. The service is always consistent and efficient. Definitely a loyal Golden Wok customer.
I hear such mixed reviews, and maybe it's just the dishes I like (spare ribs, shrimp rangoon ,etc.) to order are done the way I like, but I find the food here delicious, and it's really convenient.
i have a good few dietary restrictions and they’ve always been super accommodating! the foods always been great too!
Always our go-to place for great Chinese food in the area. We get takeout from Golden Wok regularly and it's consistently good every time. Love the crab meat lo mein, eggplant, and pork wonton soup the best. My favorite comfort foods!
For the prices they charge this food is as good as it gets! Decent food /all tasty with large portions. Nothing fancy & certainly not Manhattan Hi-end authentic Chinese food but it's very tasty & very reasonably price with fast service!
I've been here probably over 100 times. This is the best food in Red Hook and one of the best places around. I usually get beef and broccoli or the general tso/pork fried rice combo.
I've been hear dozens of times over the years. The family who runs the restaurant is extremely friendly if you bother to talk to them. The food is great, ESPECIALLY if you ignore the white people food and get the Chinese specials they post on the wall.
Best Chinese food in Hudson Valley!!
This is the best Chinese food I've ever eaten hands down. I used to live over an hour away and would not hesitate to drive down to eat here and I've tried other Chinese in areas that I've lived in but nothing quite hits the spot like they do. Let me put it this way the know me by name, number, and most commonly ordered dishes.
Excellent Costumer Service ladies in the front are super nice. Food is really fresh and delicious.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT! This restaurant contains many authentic Chinese dishes and most of them are super good. I would usually go here once or twice a week because of how much I like the food here. The staffs and employees here are super nice and kind and they would always greet me whenever I’m there. And yeah I would say they got the best Chinese food around the area.
The staffs in the restaurant were very nice and the food was made quickly. 100% recommend this place if you want AUTHENTIC Chinese food.
I ordered on Christmas, and when I went to pick it up they were incredibly busy—but every staff member was kind, patient, and cheerful. They were wishing everyone happy holidays and Merry Christmas even while the phone was ringing nonstop. The food was amazing, and the portion sizes were generous. Truly appreciated the great service on such a hectic day!
The new owners are wonderful people to deal with and their food is 100x better than the previous owners. Glad to have great Chinese food take out in Red Hook again!!!!!! I would recommend this place to anyone if you want oustanding customer service with a smile and a very pleasant attitude. Great tasting food, really good portion sizes and fast service. You will not be disappointed!!!!!
I drive an hour passing multiple Chinese restaurants and it’s worth it 110% each time, the best Chinese food around!!! wish i could rate it higher than 10/10
I visited this place 2 Days inn a Row due to them serving delicious dishes they are truly a neighborhood staple it's great to have them around!
My fiance and I stopped at our favorite Chinese takeout restaurant tonight (Golden Wok) We ordered our usual, She got the Pork Fried Rice I got the Roasted Pork Egg Foo Young and while waiting we learned Golden Wok is under new ownership, The food didn't miss a beat it was delicious and just like Sue and her husband had made it, Sue and her Husband will be missed but we welcome the new owners with arms wide open, Again the food was perfect we will continue ordering from the Golden Wok and highly recommend them
No frills, fresh and flavorful. Some of the best takeout around here. Regarding the comments about customer service, while I agree that the woman’s communication can come off as abrasive, it does not feel personal and just seems like the way she is. Don’t take it personally, enjoy the food!
First time back to the area in 20 years & this was my first stop! I dream about the cold peanut butter noodles & scallion pancakes. So good! Everything i have tried from this place is delicious. Healthy & vegetarian options too! I ordered steamed broccoli-they steamed it with ginger-which I wasn't expecting and absolutely adored! The owners are so friendly. Another patron looked sad & the owner genuinely inquired if they were ok. Great people, great food. Red Hook is so lucky to have the Golden Wok. Please support this small business—hope it’s around for at least another 20 years- thank you Golden Wok!!!
This is so much better than the low star rating! They are representing classic Chinese American cuisine - without any fuss or fanciness. But with kindness and skill. Sad to see I would have missed out if I was looking at their ratings!!! So unfair. I’m looking forward to trying their chow ho fun next time! Spare ribs were nice- as was the scallion pancakes.
After almost 10 years in NYC, we really missed authentic Chinese food when we moved up this way. Discovering the braised fish here was an absolute dream - 5/5 stars for that dish. Can’t wait to try more from the “authentic” section. As other reviewers have said, check out the dishes posted on the wall and the authentic section of the menu. Oh, also, beware of the bad reviews…it takes a special kind of person to come on here and try to ruin someone’s livelihood. Enjoy the delicious food ✌🏼
Good food. Slightly small portions and a touch expensive. Convenient location. Friendly staff
Always a decent experience. They could be a little friendlier.
The food is good but a bit pricey. However, it's consistent w/ the kind of prices you see in the Red Hook/Rhinebeck area. The lady behind the counter can be a bit abrupt, but I think it's just how she is. Highly recommended.
Love love love the Golden Wok. Pop got his stand by, chicken lo mein. Not a bit.left on his plate. I got black bean chicken w some heat. Chicken was perfectly cooked, nice heat, piping hot out of the wok. So good ...
Call in, pick up, or eat in. They are fast and the food is fresh. After 20 years they are putting in a new kitchen so I believe they are closed this week, but reopen July 20th. Gigi is hysterical. I guess you need a sense of humor to be on your feet 24/7.
It’s pricey. The duck is probably the best dish. The woman may come off rude but she gets busy and overwhelmed so I understand the rush. We come back so I guess it’s an okay place for takeout.
My wife and I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and we are now regulars. The food here is very good, more expensive than the Chinese food close to us but so much better.
Golden Wok is a great place to go for delicious Chinese food. Located right next to the bars shuttle stop, it's perfect for students to grab a bite.
The prices are outrageous but they have so many off menu specials and the food is so consistently good that it's pretty much worth it. Pro tip; while their regular stuff is pretty good, take a look at the back wall and order something different. I highly recommend the sausage fried rice, it's delicious.
I tried it once and found the food very bland and watered down, but then I talked to my friends, and apparently I was just doing it wrong!! Apparently, if you order from the paper menu, you are given the "americanized version" of everything, which is really quite bad. But if you order from the wall, you get the real deal, and real flavor! So the trick is, don't look at the menu, don't even ask for the menu; look at the wall! So while my experience was closer to three stars, I am now convinced that the place is actually better than that :) You just need to know the trick.
2024/11/15: I officially eat my words about their egg rolls. The quality of those have increased dramatically. They're as crunchy as you want and the inside is -great-. So, since more people have moved to the area, the overall quality has really increased. I find the egg rolls to be steamed inside, and the filling to taste like frozen, thawed mix. It does not feel in house. However, the family that owns and runs the place is delightful. Their matriarch runs her front and back of house efficiently. I like her because she is no nonsense, humorous in the right way, and professional.
Many items to choose from. Spring rolls and dumplings are good. Nice, clean place.
The sweet and sour chicken is great. Their fried rice is a little bland. Their prices are high compared to other chinese food restaurants and there are a lot of eateries in Red Hook so....
every damn time they forget at least one thing in an order. you’d think i would have learned my lesson by this point. ALWAYS FULLY CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
Prices have skyrocketed but quality has dropped. Shrimp with broc a was so salty we had to blend it into the veg fried rice which was dry and tasteless so that worked out. The fried rice had snow peas, reg peas, onion and huge stalks of broccoli as you'd find in a side order of broccoli. No sprouts. We needed a knife. The eggplant in garlic sauce was bland and so over cooked that you could not keep the eggplant on any utensil. The only saving grace was the Shrimp Mei Fun REALLY good and proof I wasn't crazy: this used to be a great little restaurant. This was a take out order but NOTHING was included in the bag except fortune cookies. The cashier told me to grab packs of sauces but didn't mention she hadn't incl napkins utensils or paper plates as the quart sized orders were clearly for sharing. So the carefree take out dinner ended with a sink full of dishes. Other pluses are easy to find parking and even though they have cut back their hours they are still open later than most restaurants in the area.
Good enough for Chinese cuisine outdide of NYC. Had a variety of items. The egg rolls were crispy and delicious, beef with broccoli was good, orange chicken was good. Didn't think the fried rice was outstanding, just OK. It's convienient to get to, and there is a parking lot around the corner. When I'm in the area again, I'd order again.
The food was okay, but the price of Chinese food is insane. Over $100 for 2 meals and 2 sides of Crab Rangoon and 3 egg rolls. I couldn't believe it. I wouldn't mind as much if the food was delicious, but when it's just average, then it's depressing.
Scallion pancakes were delicious, everything else was terrible.
The food is 3-stars at best. The service is abysmal. I keep forgetting how bad a choice this is until someone answers the phone... then I try for 18 months to remember to avoid the place.
I have had great food from here for years. Yesterday I bought pork dumplings and sesame noodles and got horrible food poisoning. I called to let them know and was disappointed that the person on the other line didn’t seem concerned in the least bit. I don’t know if it is due to this pandemic but it should have still been concerning to them that they sold contaminated food.
Just paid $27 for ONE Shrimp Mei fun!! The same exact dish I always get was $15.50 in Saugerties and $13.50 in Shokan. I wanted large shrimp…ok I get it..+$3. Wanted to swap broccoli and mushrooms for the bland cabbage and celery. How about $2 per veg?!? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Food was solid but almost $30 for one dish?!? Total rip off. Save your money and take it to Dragon City in Saugerties (they’re excellent)!
2.5 stars. Extremely busy, with other customers who made my skin crawl with how rude they were to the obviously overwhelmed staff. Unfortunately, my order was mis-heard as "beef" instead of "bean curd" so I was unable to eat it when I got home, but the veggie spring rolls were crispy (could use a little more flavor). Otherwise food was typical upstate NY Chinese fair. Would suggest Asia Cafe in Hudson if you're looking for taste over distance. Also a bit overpriced for the quality of food. 28 bucks for a combo dinner, my mis-heard order of bean curd and broccoli and 2 spring rolls. Eh.
Egg rolls and noodles were aii but that lady at the front definitely needs to get checked 😆 being so rude and condescending and miserable for no reason . She needa be careful before she makes the wrong person mad one day
Second time this happened with my take out order. I order pork chow mein and get pork lo mein ! Better check your containers before you leave !!
Used to LOVE this place - ordered once a week or so for a year - but the last time I got from there I had a huge hair in my food and I'll never be able to stomach eating there again.
the food is good. not awesome but also not bad. however, the service is terrible. the lady behind the counter is so rude every time. whether you order in person or over the phone, she just yells at you and is rude overall. if you ask her something about the menu, she won’t know. how do you not know your own menu? and because she doesn’t know, she yells at you for not knowing either. every single person i know that orders from here, always talks about how terrible the service costumer is so i know it’s not me. do yourself a favor and skip this one.
Over priced food. We ordered to sit and eat and the food was cold. The cashier was loud and rude.
Horrible wantons as if you were to take out of freezer and let thaw and not steam or boil , just eat uncooked, absolutely disgusting and offensive!!!!! Never go there!!!! Absolutely DISGUSTING
I use go come here somethings with my friends and everytime I came here the people who worked there were always rude! It’s not worth going there to eat.
Every time I go here the food is tasteless. The owner is rude and stares at me when I'm signing the recipt to make sure I give a good tip, which they're not deserving of half of the time. When I have an issue and discuss it with management, I get yelled at for complaining. One of the worse places I've been to.
I don't know how this place stays in business. We ordered food to take to my Mom who is at St. Johns. When we walked it to pick up the food we were surprised at how dirty the dining area was. We picked up the food and took it up for dinner. The food was unbelievable bland, overcooked and overall terrible. No way to find any redeeming features in this restaurant.
I just searched the best Chinese food near me and got this place which should be on the worst list. Awful food, super high prices and major attitude on the owner. STAY AWAY
I get home to find my order is just a pile of smelly soggy lettuce instead of Chow Mein. I call to let them know and the old lady starts yelling at me that "chow mein doesnt have noodles! only lettuce and onions!" I find it very strange that she doesnt know her own language since Chow Mein literally means "fried noodles"! I asked if I could bring the food back (since im not going to eat a pile of mushy lettuce and I just picked up the food 5 minutes earlier) and she yells something I couldnt understand and then hangs up. 1 star on food and 0 stars on customer service.
They steal from you. Don’t go there. If you don’t pay attention, they will over charge you. Also, they are EXTREMELY rude. The food is good, but if the service is not, and they steal.. then it’s not worth my money.
The lady at the counter was completely rude! Food was just okay. Do NOT recommend!
So I sat and waited for my Teriyaki Beef and then felt a swift chill run through the small shop. I slowly made my way towards the kitchen and believe me when I say this, I am a man of God, the employees were wearing cloaks and were celebrating the sacrifice of the Baphomet! The Templar Knights must be rolling in their tombs over this! Wo Hen Bu Gao Xing!!
The wontons had no meat in them and the crab ragoons were very small and expensive. I will not revisit this place, other Chinese restaurants are better.
The woman working the counter always had an attitude, and that hasn't changed. The quality of the food has declined, the prices have gone way up, and the place isn't clean. From now on, we'll go to Jade Palace in Rhinebeck or Kai's kitchen in Kingston.
Ordered from their takeout menu. Found out when the food was brought home they've raised prices from the menu 30%. A $45 order ended up $65 for 4 items +tax. Even appetizers doubled in price. Chinese food used to be affordable. I could've gone to a fine bistro like Terrapin for that kind of money. The $ price rating should now be $$ at least.
Highly disappointed, wontons were mushy, broth had no flavor!!!! Rice was very gummy. I hate leaving reviews but this meal was pretty bad!!!
The attitude at the front desk was extremely poor and it was really bad. When I arrived at the store today, the front desk directly ordered the food at the door. I didn’t ask if I was going to pack it or eat it at the store. I think it may be because people have no seats, they just finished buying the order and then stood at the door and waited for the seat. After waiting for a long time, the people I came later were also arranged to sit down. I think it must be wrong. I asked the front desk. I also eat at the restaurant. Why didn't I have a seat? Then I was very impatient and said, "You didn't say it, then don't you click here?!" Then gave it to me. A huge white eye. If it weren't for your two-second long white eye, I wouldn't write this bad review. The food in the store is very good, the other waiters are also very good, I am also a frequent visitor, but in the future, my friends and I will never go again.
I have eaten from here a few times due to convenience, and it's always disappointing. I had the worst crab rangoons I have ever had last night and I'm paying for it today. I have severe cramping, nausea and the runs. On top of this I've almost passed out twice today, which rarely ever happens. Thank you golden wok for the worst food experiences I have ever had.
Placed an order via phone . When I arrived to pick up my order after the 15mins I was told ,it still wasn’t ready . Waiting another 15 mins there the kid behind the counter asked for my phone number again . Handed me a bag ram my card and I left . When I drove home 20 mins away nothing I ordered was in the bag . Looked at the receipt and a totally different number . Called and asked rectify the problem and was yelled at by the owner as if it was my fault . I asked if they could deliver the correct order and she screamed more and hung up . First and last time I’ll go to that place !!! Absolutely horrible all the way round !!!
Every time I have been into Golden Wok, I have had a bad customer service experience. The food is usually good, but consistently every time I go in, I get yelled at for various things. I have gotten yelled at for improper change, asking for my food too soon, asking too many questions about the menu, and leaving the door open too long. I understand that a lot of the clientele is Bard Kids, which I am, but that gives the woman at the counter no right to yell at people for insignificant things.
Same as always, very consistent and good food... ok since then they have messed my order up several times, she fixed my order last time with an attitude and the food has gone down the drain quick, been going there for years and now i won't go back. My beef and broccoli is tasteless.
Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had! Quality was horrible, no flavor cheap cuts of stringy meat. Do not waste your money here folks.
Got the worst food poisoning of my life eating here recently. When I notified them of this, the people behind the counter were extremely rude and condescending, telling me that in order to receive a refund, I needed to bring in the food I ordered...after I had already eaten it the day prior. Complete lunacy. Golden Wok used to be good, but the prices have skyrocketed, while the quality has nosedived.
We haven’t been here in many years … I was sick and asked a friend to pick up some wonton soup (one pint) and one pint of chicken fried rice. He leaves bag on porch with quart of wonton and two pints of chicken fried rice (he paid double- they added to his order). The broth was yummy in wonton soup; however the wontons with pork were huge and had to be cut into several pieces to consume… The chicken fried rice …. Completely bland and chicken was very white and rubbery like it was boiled or poached - gross - a few peas and tiny pieces of onion … no taste at all - what happened to the business ? Long ago they were great
