Opinions de Rok N Fondue Redlands
Over the top exceptional and outstanding! This has become my favorite place in redlands! The atmosphere, decor and attention to detail from the solid metal plates to the amazing Lava Rock hot stone meat serving trays, it's all amazing and perfect. The shrimp cocktail was colossal, fresh and cocktail sauce just spicy enough. The unsweet ice tea is tropical forward, pleasant, and delicious. The fillet mignon on the oven hot lava rock was an experience. They slice it and it continues to sear right at your table. The house made sauces are perfecto! Real mashed potato, outstanding French fries were crispy and flavorful. Brussel sprouts were quite good with a balsamic glaze. It was a feast and a pleasure! The restaraunt is a solid five stars. However our server, Karen was next level and deserves to give this place an extra star, 6 if I could. She really transformed it from great to experiential!! For dessert, we had a chocolate fondue feast. It was served with a flaming sauce, literally on fire, right at our table. Marshalltown, fruit, pretzels, brownies and more, to stab with a little metal fork and dip in the chocolate sauce served in a metal double boiler pit on a burner built into the table. I was super impressed with the show as well as the flavor. And again, Karen made the magic happen, she's a superstar. The place has a prominent bar with a sports TV. We did not deink, but the bar was well stocked with happy patrons enjoying the atmosphere. Very highly recommended. Only downside is the music was loud enough, even in the seating area, that we had to shout to have a conversation. If someone has a birthday, the staff shouts quite loudly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, loud enough to seem like an emergency more than a festivity. These minor quibbles aside, we will definitely be back for more. Be sure to check out the upstairs too, the decor is very cool.
First time visiting this establishment and was brown away by the amazing staff. The bartender that welcomed my friend and I in was both funny and entertaining. He made the atmosphere extremely comfortable by cracking jokes and engaging us in lively conversations. He also gave us detailed explanations on what cheese fondues to try out and made everything on the menu sound delicious. My friend and I ended up choosing the sun-dried formaggio which has a delicious blend of fontina and havarti cheese with basil pesto and was served with some raw veggies, bread, and tortilla chips. The mild cheese in the fondue was given a blast of flavor by the sun-dried tomatoes and pesto which left me wanting more. After consuming all of the cheese, we were craving something sweet and settled on the salted caramel dark chocolate fondue. This rich dessert was served with fresh bananas and strawberries as well as marshmallows, cake, Rice Krispies, and pretzels. When the other lovely bartender came over with the chocolate fondue, she surprised us with lighting it on fire! After the fun show, my friend and I were delighted that the chocolate wasn’t overly sweet and the salted caramel created a balanced dessert. At the end of dinner, we were both full and happy with our experience!
Food 4* Vibe 5* Service 5* Vibe is great. Must come with a group of friends or with a date to enjoy the experience. Service is great as well. Our server was a funny guy and also kept checking up on us and making sure we're ready for the fondue experience. As for the food. The steaks are tastier cooked on the stone plate rather than the fondue. Their steak sauces were delicious. Overall a great time.
Great ambiance and food. Steak on a stone was excellent as was the shrimp and scallops. Appetizer was cheese found us with bacon jalapeños. Fun dipping bread, chips and fruit. Noisy and busy areas. We sat upstairs. A bit smoky in some areas but smelled great. Living music was a plus and nice long bar.
My family and I came here for a quick bite. This place is more of sit down and enjoy your meal spot, but we where on a time crunch. Regardless the service here is excellent, the waiters know their menu. Our waiter helped us choose our appetizers. The Rok•N•Chedder Fondue, the Ahi Tuna Tartare, and Bruschetta. All tasted very delicious. Although we did not get full entrees, the food looked plus smelled amazing. We are looking forward to coming back for the full sit down experience. 11/2022 update, we had a sit down and eat experience today and we where so pleased. The crab cakes are delightful with the aioli sauce. We had the pesto orzo, and a fondue feast. I must say everything tasted delicious. The experience was great. The dips provided for the feast complimented them well. A teriyaki twist, chimichurri, plus the spicy and sweet sauce.
A buddy took us here. Was themed with a Parisian vibe and I had thoughts of French cuisine. As he checked in I overhewrd that he had reservations. We were promptly seated. I had to sit back and just experience while he ordered. A bit later the guy comes out and turns on the stove top. Once heated he brought out the ingredients and prepped the cheese fondues fright there. You get a fork and a small spear to pick the fruits, veggies, pickles, and sausages. Good flavor. Something definitely you need to try. Also had an order of Bruschetta - delicious.
Looking for a creative date night? This spot offers innovative, delicious drinks and vegetarian options. For a fun experience, give it a try. With both upstairs and downstairs seating, it also features live music on weekends. Keep in mind, it’s a bit pricey, especially for meat dishes. If you order the tofu dish, don’t miss the ravioli—it’s the highlight. Our server was also a delight.
Great spot on State Street. We showed up about 20 minutes early for a reservation, place wasn't super crowded but still had to wait (likely short staffed) - but the area is nice to walk around so the 20 minutes passed easily. Lots of drink options and are they were great. We ordered a cheese fondue and by the time we were finishing that our Fondue Feast came out. The timing between food dishes was great so we didn't get "full on the appetizers" and able to finish our dinner. The feast fed 2 of us perfectly. Recommendations: 1. Get a cheese fondue AND a fondue entree (rock entrees looked good too) 2. Get the fries instead of the pretzel with your cheese fondue (extra charge) 3. Ask to be seated upstairs (cool vibe) 4. Save room for dessert (looked delicious but we were full)
Came here for my son's birthday since it's been a while since we've had fondue and not many places around for fondue. Made a reservation on Sunday at 4pm. Asked for a booth away from the restroom. We arrived and there was only 1 other party there. They came to seat us and guess what booth they tried to seat us in? You got it, the one right next to the restroom. I asked if we can sit somewhere else since the restaurant was empty and they said ok. We started off with a few apps and drinks. The cocktails were good but the beer wasn't cold and the glass was probably straight out of the dishwasher because the glass was warm too. Ya, not ideal. We started to order and asked for the lobster ravioli and was told they were out of the ravioli. Okay, so we pivoted ordered something else and when it came to my son, he ordered the NY strip and they said they were out of the NY strip. Again we went with something else. The cheese fondue was tasty and the filet on the lava rock was pretty cool. The food (they actually had) was good and cooked properly and when it came to chocolate fondue, that was good as well. On their menu they say they have a small and a large serving of the chocolate fondue but when we ordered the small serving, theu said they only have one size, the large. You mean you don't have another thing on your menu? Shocking.. Overall, the food was good, the service was good but that's it. They obviously dont look at the reservations or request, the menu is outdated and don't have multiple items on it, cold beers would be nice, and the cleanliness could be better. For the price you pay for the food and experience, it leaves much to be desired. I probably won't be back unless my son requests fondue again and we cant find another local spot.
What in the heck happened to this place? Rok-n-fondue used to be our “go to” for special occasions. The ambiance is amazing, and they used to offer quality ingredients and proteins. Not sure what’s happened in the last 6-9 months but it has taken a turn. I’d give it an even lower review if cheese wasn’t so good. When we arrived on Father’s Day, we ordered the Caprese- as described in the menu it’s served with sliced tomato, mozzarella, basil oil, balsamic vinegar glaze. We were served some sort of salad with cheese and tomatoes, over a bed of lettuce. It seems as though they are fluffing the green filler to skimp on the quality ingredients (fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes). Moving on to cheese, the server put the ingredients in the pot and walked away, we stirred it ourselves but it seemed kind of strange. They also changed the format of the fondue entrees, it used to be nicely packaged where you can get a variety of flavorful meats in one orders. We simply ordered two different entrees to have a little variety. This is when they lost us, the server had the accompaniments (lemon and butter) on the same plate as raw meat, major cross contamination. The proteins were not marinated or seasoned at all, the mound of chicken looked like kitchen scraps full of bits and pieces of tendons, fat and stringy chicken. Also, the server never explained the cook times of the proteins which seems like pretty important details to communicate. Needless to say, this was a very disappointing experience. We’d be foolish to return for anything other than the cheese.
Cons: the gratuity fee that they charge you and don't tell you ahead of time. The chips they give you for the fondue were stale. Smh. The table was still dirty when we arrived and we were the first people to arrive when they opened. Pros: Our waiter was great, she was very helpful. The alcoholic drinks were delicious. The Rok meals were pretty good, but they are a little stingy with the seasonings. Nice atmosphere over all.
Definitely could never recommend this place and would even urge others to stay away unfortunately it's the only fondue place anywhere that I know of so I guess I'll just go back to never eating fondue or making it at home. Honestly so disappointed in this place our experience was overall fine but the restaurant itself ruins the experience for itself. The food actually was actually pretty decent and had good flavor and the drinks were well made, those are pretty much the only parts that were good. We arrived about 30 minutes early for our reservation and they were unable to seat us which is absolutely ok, but the reasoning was that they had just sat a table, as in a singular table so they were unable to seat us. When we get in finally there is a total of 4 other tables one of them is a table of seven and the rest were a 4 3 and two 2's also a single person at the bar. First round of drinks took about 10 minutes from order until arrival and were great. We ordered the cheese with sun dried tomatoes (All cheese pots are $25 and the optional sausage and pickles for $10. The dipping stuf came out (literally a tiny bowl of apple slices a few pieces of bread some chips and a little bit of veggies) and the $10 upgrade for the sausage and pickles was a total rip off is size while the sausage was pretty unspectacular. The cheese we chose remained pretty gloopy nothing like you'd expect at a fondue place or as fondue cheese, the portion size with 3 of us (2 adults one 6 year old) who were trying to be considerate of each other and not take too much cheese is one bite, was absolutely tiny and we barely made it through about half of the provided accoutrements before the cheese was absolutely gone literally such a rip off amount. Next we order led the lamb chops and with the side of wine mushrooms and broccoli, they messed up and gave us a side of mashed potatoes as well. The lamb chops were $46 and came with the most abysmally anemic 3 "lamb chops" which it took a literal 2 bite for me to eat all the meat and my 6 year old finished it in 3 bites I don't know what their margins are but it can't even be close on the lamb chops. We had also ordered a cocktail when we ordered the lamb which took in the ballpark of 20+ minutes to receive. We asked about it every time the server stopped by and she kept assuring us that it was on its way, at the 10-15 minute mark we saw the ticket print so the bartender made and dropped it off after ~20 minutes. We continued to eat all of our waters were dry because they never had been refilled so I walk up to the bar the bartender isn't there. I can only assume the gentleman was the manager because he had a button down shirt who was just standing there talking to someone and asked me what I need I told him it's be nice if we got some water he said it'll be right out walked away and after literally (I genuinely mean a real 15+ minutes I timed it) 15 minutes the server comes by and says she'll be right back with some water and I still have to get back up and get water from the bartender. We chose to just go across the street and grab ice cream for dessert I am extraordinarily surprised this place is still in business and that would still be the case if I soley meant because portion size and prize alone.
I absolutely adored this place and have been coming here for years! Unfortunately, it was just bought by the same company as Don Orange and Cedar Agave. Came today for happy hour, or we thought. I asked what white wine was on happy hour and that is when he told me they no longer have happy hour since they were bought out. This was after we had already ordered drinks and apps. Happy hour was still up on the website and in the menu. Bye Rok n Fondue, you were fabulous while it lasted.
This establishment used to be our go-to spot for special occasions—birthdays, anniversaries, and more. Most recently, we visited for my son’s 10th birthday because he loves cooking and was excited about the interactive dining experience here. Unfortunately, it was a deeply disappointing visit. While I understand that prices have increased everywhere, the portions here have noticeably decreased, and they now charge extra for butter—the essential ingredient used to cook food on the hot rocks. But the real issue was the service, which was unacceptable. The server took our drink orders and then took 20 minutes to bring them—except for my wife’s. She waited 30 minutes only to find out, after we asked, that her drink was unavailable. No one informed us it was out of stock; it just wasn’t brought to the table. Additionally, I had to repeatedly ask for a refill while the server came by several times, looked at my empty glass, and said nothing. Our food took 50 minutes to arrive, and when it did, we weren’t given the tongs needed to cook our meat. We had to wait another 10 minutes for those to be brought over. Beyond the poor service and reduced portion sizes, the automatic gratuity of $72 added insult to injury. I have no issue tipping generously for good service, but this experience was far from deserving. Our total bill came to $457.52 for four adults and two children, and unfortunately, this will be the last time we visit. It’s disappointing to see a place we once loved decline so significantly.
I just had an absolutely TERRIBLE night here. The shorter female waitress was responsible for taking care of us, but completely dropped the ball. She was constantly running around the restaurant, even though it was not that busy. This may be a fault on management for being short staffed, but this waitress did not even TRY to even pretend like she cared about us. Took us 45 minutes to get water and that only happened after we asked another waiter for it. She took our order after a while, and my fiancé’s entree came out. After 20 minutes, my fiance had finished and my food was nowhere in sight. Turns out, the waitress just didn’t put it in the system at all! And didn’t even care to check in on us once to even notice that mistake. When she finally noticed this, she said it was an “honest mistake” (that’s her quote), but it truly feels like incompetence on her end. This place is too expensive for it to make guests feel like they are not valued. Food was good, but the service prevents me from ever returning.
I just moved to Redlands so I had never been to this place before, and as someone who went to culinary school this was one of the WORST restaurants I have been. We were ready to try it all, but after the cheese fondue experience we went to eat somewhere else instead. The cheese from the fondue looked like Walmart shredded cheese and the mix of flavors was disgusting. 🤢 Bread was cold and tasted weird, and everything looked and tasted cheap. We ordered a side of sausage that came cold and 80% of the plate was kale. Who even uses kale to decorate the plate anymore? The staff was sweet and nice but I never want to go back to that place again. It’s 2025, if you want to charge prices like that you need to deliver good quality food.
I was a loyal lover of this restaurant since it was opened by the woman who closed the Rancho Melting Pot. Well over a decade. We've been there through the ups and downs (things got really bad for a while after the owner let go their bartender Miguel and several of the main servers), but were always loyal and returned. At it's height there were times we were there 3 or more times a week, gladly dropping hundreds of dollars each time. They were in a bad slump again and I was once again afraid they were going to go under. So I was very happy when I found out the owner of other restaurants in the same area was buying it. Oh boy, was I SO SO incredibly wrong. We went there for my birthday and spent about $1,000 and it was absolutely the worst dining experience of my life. Service was absolutely horrible. We had to keep begging for even the most basic things. Like forks to eat the food with. And water. And the items we ordered. The portions of things they kept bringing out was also seriously ridiculous. When she brought the chocolate out, I thought she was joking because we had had such a horrible experience all night. It was a shmear of chocolate in the bottom of the bowl. We had had her as a server several times in the past and had actually requested her for my birthday dinner. So I thought she was messing with me. She looked chagrined and said even she had told them she couldn't take that to the table the first time she saw it. But they insisted, that's the new portion based on the new management so there was nothing she could do about it. Lesson learned. Never, ever, ever again will I take a chance on this restaurant. New management has completely destroyed a restaurant that was already only held together by it's veteran customers. Take my advice and don't go waste your money just to be insulted, disappointed, and thoroughly unhappy.
My wife, son and I came back to the area for a wedding after moving away for several years. We were so very excited to eat here again, this was where my wife threw my 30th birthday ten years ago. To our disappointment it was not what we were expecting from years of past patronage. No longer beer on tap, $9 for a can of beer. The spinach artichoke fondue was good, but when it came to the rock entrees we were definitely dissatisfied. No longer scallops on the menu, which is a business decision I am sure. The filet was descent, but $8 extra for merlot butter??? The sides were a disaster, my wife had to re-cook brussel sprouts on her hot rock, my sons mushrooms tasted like wine had been poured in without reduction, he couldn’t even stomach them. None of the sides were eaten. A shame when the entrees are $60 a piece. We decided to at least give our favorite desert a final chance, the bananas foster… Big mistake, it was a few chopped up bananas in a pot of milk chocolate “That is not bananas foster!!!”… We inquired why things were so different, alas, new ownership. I am typically not one to give reviews, but when I received my $300 bill and saw each side was charged extra, and for less than par food that was not edible. A huge disappointment, I couldn’t wait to leave the establishment. No, we will not be returning. Farewell, I hope the new ownership uses this as an opportunity for constructive criticism.
This establishment used to be our go-to spot for special occasions—birthdays, anniversaries, and more. Most recently, we visited because my daughter loves cooking and was excited about the interactive dining experience here. Unfortunately, it was a deeply disappointing visit. While I understand that prices have increased everywhere, the portions here have noticeably decreased, and they now charge extra for butter—the essential ingredient used to cook food on the hot rocks and for each of the two sides that are offered. My son order a loin and was told they were out of it 15 minutes later. Then he was told they had no mushrooms because there was a large party. TBH the place was empty and the party was not that big. The service, which was unacceptable. The server took our drink orders and then took 30 minutes to bring them. Halfway into our dinner at 8:00 we were told the kitchen was closing we had to hurry and eat in order to place the dessert fondue. Our food took 50 minutes to arrive, and when it did, we weren’t given the tongs needed to cook our meat. Beyond the poor service and reduced portion sizes, it seemed we were given scraps. Our total bill came to $ 305 for three. unfortunately, this will be the last time we visit. It’s disappointing to see a place we once loved decline so significantly.
The servers were very nice and amazing but the food was trash it our first time back after many times of visiting in months. The food was so disappointing. First the lobster ravioli was cold than the jalapeño bacon fondue was watery and salty :(. When our lava rock came that was the most disappointing we decided to leave after the first bite the steak was flavorless we even paid extra for butter and shrimp. The shrimp was an extra 18 dollar as before the shrimp was large and tasteful this time around the shrimp looked like it came out of a stater brother ten dollar bag :( again the servers were great but will never be back again.
