Opinions de Nhà Minh Ridgewood
i love this place! we use to go pretty regularly but i’ve been on a diet lately so i’ve been watching what i eat as their portions are generous. i like to get the curry tofu vermicelli bowl or banh mi (add fried egg). i also love their classic banh xeo complete with the herb basket. it’s so fresh and satisfyingly crispy! specials are announced on IG. once they offered cha ca (vietnamese fried fish cake) which was so good! hard to find that in nyc. my husband likes to get the shrimp or berkshire pork vermicelli bowl (add extra spring rolls). the vermicelli bowls are so fresh with a nice medley of veggies and toppings. their sauces are also super addicting and sometimes they offer special/experimental sauces which we love to try. it’s connected to trans pecos, which is a music venue/event space. sometimes i like to eat on the trans pecos side during lunch on the weekends and there might be someone playing an experimental set to just 1-2 people. love the chill vibe during the day.
Delicious bahn mi and vegan pho with an array of unique and classic homemade sauces! Excited to come back and try more of the menu
Honestly everything I’ve tried is here is so delicious and flavorful. The rice bowls are a ton of food with grilled veggies, the pho is amazing the noodles are flatter/ larger than I’ve had before which I prefer, and banh mi sooo good. They have like 15 different sauces in squeezer bottles you can pour on top of whatever you order. Every single one is soooooo good. Def my favorite spot in the neighborhood. Not like a “cheap” eat but you can tell the quality and flavors make it worth it!
We had a 10 out of 10 meal last night at Nha Minh! We started off with delicious drinks which were lychee margarita and lemonade, I loved both. You can’t do Vietnamese without the Pho soup and it didn’t disappoint- it was flavorful and hearty with chicken, turkey and duck meat. The portion is big enough to split for two, if you are getting other food like we did. My favorite were the spring rolls both fresh with pork and shrimp and fried - with shrimp and crab. They have a selection of house made sauces and my favorite one was cilantro pineapple- I could drink it straight from the large bottle. I couldn’t believe how generously the food was dressed with ample amount of mint and fresh herbs and as the owner Fred explained, it’s meant to reflect the tradition, hospitality and richness of the Vietnamese culture. They also have an outdoor area in the back and we were told of upcoming events in the spring and summer so looking forward to enjoying this delicious fresh food again on their outdoor patio. Can’t wait to be back for food and vibes ✨
One of the best spots in the area. Been going here for many years. Can’t recommend enough! Quality and taste are top notch and they are super consistent. They make their own amazing selection of in-house sauces that vary daily. Would recommend the catch of the day and/or their lemongrass chicken. Bahn mi or bowl, you can’t go wrong!
This spot is a true neighborhood gem. The Vietnamese dishes are authentic, fresh, and deeply satisfying. I highly recommend the lemongrass bún—especially with the pork spring rolls—it’s an unbeatable combo. Their bánh mì sandwiches are excellent too- generous, flavorful, and seriously filling (good portion). The pho is classic, the kind that warms you up and brings you back to life. Everything on the menu feels comforting and thoughtfully made. Also the vanilla pandan snickerdoodle and the toffee chip cookie are both excellent!!
Really enjoyed this sweet Vietnamese café in Ridgewood. Authentic bánh xèo is really hard to find in NYC, and this one is light and crispy, served with lettuce and herbs for wrapping. There’s a self serve sauce bar including regular nước chấm, a tomato version, a coffee hoisin, and others. Many vegetarian choices here too.
The food here is phenomenal. I had the pork banh mi and it may have been one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The bread was light and crispy, the pork was juicy and flavorful, and the veggies were perfect. I also had the papaya salad and it was just the right level of spicy and sweet, with tasty shrimp and peanuts throughout. Can't wait to come back.
This place is a gem! You almost don’t want to crow about it because then it will be flooded and as it’s a tiny place you don’t know if it can scale, but… it’s a coffee shop vibe with incredibly vibrant Vietnamese food pouring out of the kitchen. You can just tell the ingredients are of a high quality and taste the care that goes into its preparation. I cannot wait to go back and try more of the items on the menu! …and those homemade sauces?!? Still dreaming about them.
Amazing food here! Totally blown away by the flavors and textures. Love the self serve sauce bar! 👌 Semi self serve on the food as well. Order at he counter and take it to a seat. Love the casual vibe here! The classic crepe (banh xeo) with fresh herbs were excellent! The crunchy texture along the meaty filling (pork and shrimp) wrapped with lettuce and Vietnamnese basil, cilantro, and sauces were delicious. The classic banh mi was classic this is simple and delicious. Nothing fancy is needed here. All the dry noodles (bun) came with a medley of pickled vegetables and topped with your choice of protein. We've tried the grilled shrimp, spring rolls, and pork. The shrimp and spring rolls were excellent (you can even combine the two). The pork was flavorful but a bit dry (would love to see a pork belly topping). Nevertheless everything was excellent! Love seeing more food choices in Ridgewood that are actually good!
Ive been coming to this restaurant for sometime as I live right across, one of my favorites!! Sadly today I ordered french fries like usual but this time they were so bad and came with no seasoning and very soggy and soft, asked the server about them and that they are not seasoned so she added pepper to it and thats it. I really loved the french fries here but for 10$ to get an oily fries without seasoning was really annoying. The rest of the food was honeatly good as usual !
This Asian American fusion was pretty good! I enjoyed the Bo Bun and Banh Mi. The extra pickled veggies was a nice touch. The shrimp roll was mostly noodles. The service is meh since you serve yourself. And the location is on probably the worst block in Ridgewood. Don’t sit outside; it’s an eyesore and your plates and sauces will definitely blow off your table
Vibes on point and the food is pretty decent with the ban xeo the comparable to the style we had in Vietnam. also the sauces were pretty decent and had unique creativity to them. we had bird cage pho banh mi lemongrass chicken which was a bit salty, and spring rolls that had shrimp with the tail on which it would reminiscent of Vietnam as well. but overall the atmosphere was great to catch up with some friends and have a pretty decent lunch. but yeah ban xeo was bomb
Positives: I love the name of the place. Nhà Mình is such a cute and welcoming name. The decor was nice and the support/kitchen staff seemed friendly. Their banh mi dac biet was ok. Negatives: The pho is bland. Even after adding more fish sauce, the broth just tasted like water-diluted fish sauce and star anise. It lacks the sweetness and umami flavor usually in southern Vietnamese-style pho. They do have a sauce bar but none of those sauces are traditionally added to pho so I skipped them. The chicken and turkey meat inside was dry and tough. The server/owner lady had a bit of an edge to her. I had politely requested at the register to not have additional onions in my orders. When she brought the food to me, she made sure to comment "Just so you know, banh mi NEVER has onions in it" which is not true because there are so many different variations of banh mi. As a Viet-American growing up in San Jose where there's a huge Viet population, sometimes pickled onions are mixed into the pickled carrots and daikon so I just try to note my request whenever I'm eating out.
I have a history with this restaurant going back nearly a decade when they were still in Williamsburg. Sadly it’s not the same restaurant anymore. I had the shrimp bowl, which was mostly good except for the main ingredient (shrimp) which was dry and like cardboard really. No amount of condiments could make that edible. (4) Next the fries were too salty but had good texture and crisp. Their smoky house ketchup was good. (6) We also had the egg banh mi, which was decent but the egg was also too salty. (6) All together this was actually a disappointing experience. I will likely give it another try later but not anytime soon. On the plus side, the staff was nice.
This should genuinely have less stars. Not sure why it gets 4.3 but maybe eating in person is a better experience. Got takeout here and was really craving pho but theirs was sooo watered down. Only two pho options as well. If you’re used to eating authentic, traditional pho, this is not the place. The banh mih was okay but honestly both were expensive for the quality and taste.
Came in with 2 friends. The place is cozy and cashier was nice enough. One of the friends never had pho, so I'm said that this was his first experience. We all had pho and the soup was bland. Two of us had the bird cage, and it came with chicken drier than any chicken I've ever had... And it was in soup!!! I had to shred the chicken in the soup and nibble on it. Unfortunately, we couldn't stomach it and ended up just leaving the pho half finished. Not worth the $20 per bowl price imo
as a second generation vietnamese woman, this is the most inauthentic “vietnamese” i’ve ever had (and the most expensive). the viet iced coffee was weak and watery, the bánh mì bland, and the pho broth glorified chicken stock with black pepper. aside from being someone who grew up eating real vietnamese meals made by my family and visiting countless vietnamese and “vietnamese style” restaurants, i happen to be allergic to cashew and pistachios. luckily, these nuts aren’t used in vietnamese cuisine. unluckily, nhà mình is not particularly worried with what is or isn’t vietnamese. i ordered a meal that traditionally includes peanuts, and did not realize until after it was ordered that this rendition included nuts to which i am allergic. i took my untouched bowl to the counter to return it and order something else, fully willing to pay for a new entree because it was my responsibility to read the menu rather than rely on my existing knowledge of vietnamese food. while i was speaking to the lady at the counter, some guy (maybe the owner? he didn’t introduce himself) came to the counter and, with a distinctly agressive tone, asked me what the problem was. i explained that i hadn’t expected the mixed nuts and wanted to order something else, and i was met with condescension. honestly, the mockery of viet cuisine that this place offers is worse than being called a racial slur
Google should create negative review options specifically for this restaurant. They have the worst pho I’ve ever had in my life: it tastes like a lukewarm bowl of water. Huge noodles that are mushy, overcooked and slimy. Broth wasn’t hot - warm at best. Chicken that you have to slice yourself in order to eat. All for $20?! Chicken and shrimp summer rolls suck too. Not sure if other things on their menu aren’t disgusting but the pho absolutely is. DO NOT ORDER THE PHO! Also the chef should be embarrassed to serve this to people. In my opinion, they’d be better off cutting the price in half or removing it from the menu completely. PS - after reading reviews and seeing how the owners respond to customers that give them feedback and valid critique, I wish I had asked for a refund before leaving. Save yourself time and money! Or at least read the reviews before visiting so you know what you’re getting. Also no one that ate there while we were there finished their food and I think that’s telling. PSS (responding to the incredibly childish + petty owner): I came here with the hopes of finding a bare-minimumly decent pho spot, and my hopes actually weren’t very high, which made the disappointment even steeper. It felt like a bad joke when it came out since I’ve been craving pho since moving to NYC. Hoping that you learn how to receive + incorporate feedback instead of responding like a 2 year old, tantrum-throwing toddler who doesn’t get their way. That pho sucks and I know you know it.
