“Wow!” I took one bite of the steak taco and just said “oh my God” like five times- WOW ! Amazing flavor. Amazing amazing amazing ! Three tacos and a side of rice and beans were enough for me and I usually get six tacos at other places that I may never go back to again lol. No joke- these were some of the best tacos I’ve ever had and I’m originally from Jackson Heights, Queens- so I’ve basically tried every type of taco possible - beef- chicken- Al Pastor- everything aside from lengua. If you like tacos- what are you waiting for ?!? I’m already planning my trip back !
The chips and guacamole were so delicious! Maybe the best chips & guac I’ve had at a restaurant. Tacos were also great and everything tasted super fresh.
I come back often for the food because its great, but tonight they went above and beyond and even informed me that there was a small issue with my order before I recognized it and even drove all the way across town to make it right. This is a level of customer service that is never seen in today's age
Great for outdoor dining only or take out. Small shake packing a big punch. Reasonably priced Mexican food with alcohol available 😋 All freshly made. So be prepared to wait or call ahead. It's a place to really take a break for lunch or dinner.
I used Funchos to cater my future daughter in laws bridal shower- Margs & Matrimony. The food was amazing, had plenty of everything! I highly recommend using them. Owner Al, his son Rocco and staff very friendly.
Really awesome spot. I always drove past this place then finally went in. The food was on point and their margaritas are awesome! I regret not going in sooner! Definitely a new spot for me when driving through the area!
Nice little Oasis. No frills, just good food & atmosphere. Order at the window, get a number & find a seat. Beers in a cooler, retrieve your Margarita at the bar, food is brought to your table. The Margarita was great, Mango Salsa was delicious as was the bean taco. Music, palm trees, lights, the whole atmosphere was relaxing. Definitely recommend.
My family and I love eating at Funchos. Every time we're in the area, we stop in for a bite. Its always been just what we're looking for. The staff is super nice as well. We highly recommend them.
Omg Love this place! The food is phenomenal, it's easy to just place your order, grab whatever you need, and enjoy the seating. They have outdoor seating as well. It's right next to an ice cream parlor, so if you're in the mood for dessert after, look no further. 10 Stars!
Food was excellent. Cute place, will be back.
Brutally honest review coming. The food was incredible. Tacos were stuffed full and at a fair price. The music was top tier. Staff was friendly and the food came out quick. The margaritas were stiff and tasty. The chips are insane haven’t had any others like them. I don’t know what’s going on with the negative reviews but I think they’re all liars. Certainly coming back next time I’m in town. If you’re choosing between here and another spot, choose Funchos.
Tacos para el Alma (tacos for the soul)! This restaurant has a super great vibe, very friendly staff and the food is delicious, everything is so well presented. I love the new decor, the rustic woods, candles and ambient lighting, also a nice sound system playing cool tunes!
This place is really fun. I love the decor and outdoor seating. The food is very good and authentic. I really liked the shrimp tacos. I also had the nachos and it’s a very big portion so I would recommend splitting it with at least 1 other person. The quality of the chicken was good too.
Great food, great atmosphere. The girl who we placed our order with seemed annoyed and didn't give me change. It was OK though I considered it a tip but she should have asked.
Funchos is generally packed, and tonight was no exception. The staff was markedly patient and kind despite being pummeled by a hefty mix of take-out and dine-in clients. We sat in a spacious corner that had ample space for our infant (in her Doona) as well as our two other children. The birria tacos were flavorful and tender, without the often accompanied greasiness from other taquerias. My daughter had the quesadilla and loved how tender the chicken was. The O.G. Tacos were exactly as expected. We will be back again soon.
Love this place. Great food! Love the atmosphere, and the staff and owner are really nice and helpful. Took a little long to get my one taco, but it was delicious!
Super cool place. We’ve been a few times over the years and they just updated. They kept the same cool vibe and just made it nicer. Now full service. Great for some yummy tacos and margaritas. Awesome salsa. An easy low key place that hits the spot! Perfect spot to hit while heading out east
Great Mexican food! Indoor / outdoor seating with a funky decor. The drinks were really good and they have Happy Hour 😎
Mucho mucho glacias I love the atmosphere here. Truly thankful. Love their guacamole and salsa. The little lightbulb light hanging around and the painting art on the wall , I’m instantly feel relax and calm when I’m here. The motorbikes parking on the side . Everything just makes me feel so young again , I came here to celebrate my birthday and the clerk was so friendly and nice and wish me happy birthday with a smile😄truly thank you
Went there for a late lunch and the food was great. The decor and ambience created an authentic south of the border getaway. It was a perfect weather day to eat next to their stage covered by a well orchestrated set of sails creating the perfect amount of shade to prevent the summer sun from warning up our mango margarita. The lomo salteado was the right size and had great flavor. The gigante tots, was delicious and a flavorful appetizer. Definitely bringing people here next time.
I kept seeing this place every day on my way to work, I read good reviews so I thought I'd try in my way back to my hotel. I ordered, sat down, and waited for 35 minutes for my food. That wait was worth every single second. I go myself a soft taco and a burrito and they were both mouthwateringly beautiful and tasted absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is super friendly and welcoming and the people are so nice. I might have to stop here again before I leave the area because I was beyond impressed. Must try if you're passing by!
Certified Tacoligist for sure. Not too far from Long Island Aquarium and HYATT but worth the trip also there is a seasonal ice cream shop next door. We ordered a funcho burrito with steak and shrimp salsa corn rice beans sour cream just amazing flavor every bite, a steak quesadilla kids quesadilla and chips with guacamole. Great customer service from ordering on the phone to picking up your order. The Texas Pete hot sauce paired very well with the food. Definitely coming back soon and highly recommend.
this place is the best taco place on Long Island. First of all, their chips and salsa is amazing! They have the best salsa I have ever eaten, with fresh ingredients and delicious. My meal was delicious, everything tasted super fresh and was hot. The service is amazing even with it being super busy
I ordered the Big Daddy Manzo, it's Hugh and full of flavor. It has a really nice Bar-B-Que sauce.(not too sweet). Poblano peppers, have a little heat and a complementary smoky flavor. Tons of flavor. I REALLY ENJOYED IT. With a lot of Tex Mexican restaurants opening, this one is a hit!!
Rediscovered Funchos after many years of being away from this festively colored roadside stand (don't visit the nearby Riverhead Outlets as much as we used to). Even though it's been a while, the food is just as satisfying as ever. The cilantro cream tacos with crunchy fish as our choice of protein, and a deep-fried, tortilla-wrapped Sabrett hot dog hit the spot and left us smiling. We won't let as much time pass before the next time we're back.
Alexis and all the ladies were pleasant the food was off the charts I got the three pack. I got a steak which was so much flavor nice and juicy nice and tender. I got a battered fish which was hot fresh white meat, nice and flaky and I got the pulled pork, which is really really yummy first time here not my last time
This place is excellent, as always. They recently refurbished the place, and streamlined the menu. I got the Mexican Pizza and charcoal margarita. My only quibble is that they used to have a verde chicken pizza that was incredibly delicious. I would often dream of that pizza, sometimes justifying a trip to Riverhead just to enjoy a slice. Make no mistake, the current Mexican pizza is still good, but I will mourn the loss of my verde pizza forever.
We were immediately impressed by the fun and welcoming atmosphere! There is a charming and cozy indoor seating area as well as an outdoor one. The food was delicious and high quality and the servers were friendly and quick. We will definitely be going back!
Came here specifically for the birria quesadilla. It was the best I've had on the island so far! The consommé was the best I've had. They do not cut it short with the meat at all! It was tender and flavorful. I would've liked to have more onions and a second lime wedge, which could easily be asked for. Service was quick, food was hot. I am definitely making a second trip to try some other things.
Best tacos ever! Amazing flavor and friendly staff. Very fresh ingredients, and fast service. The food was so good, I was in and out of there within 20 minutes. I ate those tacos so fast because they were so delicious. They also come with a side of rice, beans, guacamole, salsa and sour cream. The salsa and chips are homemade and are a great choice for an appetizer. Very reasonably priced as well, and I’m a poor college student.
This place has a fun vibe and great food! It's almost like a food truck vibe in a small restaurant body. There were plenty of food options and the prices were reasonable. We were able to order and be served quickly. The quality of the food, and the flavor profiles were really the highlight here! The chorizo taco was incredible! Highly recommend.
Funchos has been one of my go-to spots since 2003, and it’s been amazing to watch them grow and evolve over the years. Even though I live in Queens now, I still make a point to visit a few times a year — and it never disappoints. On my most recent trip, I noticed some great new upgrades. Funchos has transitioned into more of a full dine-in experience, with table service and an elevated atmosphere, while still keeping the same delicious food I’ve loved for years. The vibe is fresh and welcoming, and the flavors are just as bold and satisfying as ever. I give it a solid 10/10 — highly recommend! The only challenge? Saving room for dessert at Snowflake’s next door — Funchos is that good.
This is my girlfriend's favorite Mexican place that she's been going to for years, so I was very excited to see what all the hype was about. Came for an early dinner on a sleepy Sunday. Small unassuming little place, but it packs a lot of personality in it. The atmosphere has great colorful Mexican decor that definitely gets me in the mood for a fiesta. Service was great, very patient and food came out hot, fresh and quick! We started with chips and guac, and they definitely don't skimp on your guac portion like most places do. We both did quesadillas, I got the surf wax Q with chorizo and she got the funchadilla with steak. Both equally delicious, but the cilantro cream sauce on the surf wax was what really sold me, I just might put that on everything. Seating is a little limited (they were also doing some renovations at the time) but they have great to-go containers too if you want to take it and run. Parking is easy right in the attached lot too. Everything on the menu sounded great and I would love to come back here in the summer and sit outside, enjoy a cold hard beverage and down a few tacos. That's what really gets me through the winter months!
What a find!!! Had the pozole ramen which was everything I needed it to be, so delicious! My girlfriend had the fajita burrito which she enjoyed. We shared the chips and guacamole which was the highlight of our meal: the guac had the perfect amount of cilantro, was fresh and sooo good!! I look forward to coming back to try their margaritas. The place has a laid back/ casual eclectic vibe; it’s a little confusing when you come in (it’s unclear if do you seat yourself, do you order somewhere etc?!) but I asked a server and she told us to go to the window to place our order and then choose a table. They give you a table number and the food was delivered to our table quickly. There are a few tables inside and plenty of outdoor seating.
I have been a loyal customer since 2001 due to the quality and consistency of the food. The owner, Alfanso always greets you with a smile. The El Greco taco has a generous portion of chicken compared to other places I have ordered from. After your meal, enjoy a cup of Mexican hot chocolate. There’s a hint of spice that warms your palate. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing.
Great food love this place, i go here a lot, but I'm getting a bit annoyed with getting wrong items sometimes, i get mistakes happen which is why i don't bother usually and just eat what i get but earlier i asked for a chicken tex mex burrito and then after paying and getting the receipt i noticed it just said tex mex so the same girl that took my order i went to and asked if it came with chicken which she said no so i replied oh ok but i asked for chicken so id like chicken please and she said ok no problem and it seemed she wrote it down and i asked if i need to pay more and she said no it was ok so i said ok thank you and then after i got home it was just a regular tex mex burrito after asking for chicken twice and her even telling me no problem so thats a bit annoying but other then that no complaints
Located on West Main Street, in Riverhead just before Tanger Mall, Funcho's Fajita Grill offers fast and flavorful tasty tex-mex style food served in a colorful and fun environment. The kids can even paint the glass windows in front of their seats and add decoration that can be seen from outside. A variety of recipes on the menu accompanied by a variety of hot sauces at the tables will be sure to add kick to your meal, if you are so inclined. Homemade Ice Cream conveniently located next door, for after!
This was a while ago that I went and took my dad and my 2 fur kids out east. The food is wonderful margs ok. The service is ok at best but the atmosphere is excellent.
Food was terrific! They're not the warmest or friendliest but it's pretty much self service...so there's not much interaction anyways. While delicious... the Margaritas are $13! And not worth it at that price in my opinion.
You order at a takeout counter but they have a charming outdoor seating area. The food is good but due to its takeout ordering setup, all of your food arrives (it's delivered to your table) all at once. So, you can't have your appetizers first, then entrees arriving later. The food is tasty and the ambiance is great!
First, let me share how this place is confusing to first time visitors. There are two windows. One facing parking lot (or the ice cream shop) and the opposite. The one facing parking lot has cash register and the other doesn't. Here is the confusing part. There is a sign that says "take-out" by the cash register side. On the other side, by the window, is an open dining area. This led me to believe, the parking lot side is for take-out orders only or go to the other side to dine-in. However, that wasn't the case. I had to order from the parking lot side, pay and get the order number then find the table, patiently wait for my number to be called. Btw, when waiting on the line to order, ask someone in front of you to pass the menu so you can choose what you want while killing time on the line. **Thanks for reading such a long intro. Now the food... It was worth the wait. We got the steak and chicken fajitas (2 diff orders), arroz con pollo and they were all good. Salsa and vegetables are fresh and the portions were fair. If I come by this area again, will definitely consider coming back.
FUNCHOS! Authentic, beautiful, crazy good Mexican food with a soooo cool Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) theme throughout. The Mexican holiday is celebrated in November, Funchos is open every day! The souls of the dead and hungry customers will not be dissappointed. We tried a bunch of menu items, but the Burritos stood out as the star of the menu. Order your meal, sit at the bar or the outside seating and wait for the staff to deliver your meal!
Great food and nice atmosphere with lots of variety. The TQM steak taco, the guacamole, and the burrito were a solid 10/10 The only downside was that the service took a bit long, but overall, we realy enjoyed it.
Great food, good prices. Small bar area and outdoor dining spot tucked away in Riverhead, ice cream right next door.
I was pleasantly surprised by this Mexican restaurant. It is important to know this establishment is mostly outdoors. Although they have done a fantastic job in decorating the outdoor space and making it feel like you are inside, you are outdoors. There is no AC. The evening I went, it had rained a bit earlier. Seating was limited to where I could sit based on what was dry. When you arrive, you place your order with the cashier and the food is brought to you. Drinks are picked up at another counter. Drinks are served in plastic cups. Food is served in takeaway containers. Utensils are disposable. Sauces are on a counter that you can help yourself to. Plenty of choices on the menu. Food was good. There is an ice cream place immediately next door. The parking lot is shared between the two places. I would say on a busy night parking might be tight. If the weather is pleasant and you want to go grab Mexican with a few friends, have margaritas and not feel rushed and linger all for a reasonable price, this is a good spot. Having the ice cream place next door is a plus. After dinner, you can grab ice cream and sit outside. The ice cream place has lots of outdoor seating. Check hours of the restaurant as it closes earlier than the ice cream place.
Used to love coming to this place as a kid. Recently they have just gotten so expensive. 3 tacos 21 dollars is crazzzzyyy work like are yall going out of business like im not understanding. 21 dollars to be stuck to a toilet for the rest of the night was not in my 2025 bingo card. #bringoldfunchosback #jessicasmithwashere
I haven’t been here in over a decade when it was mainly takeout. They have created an outdoor covered patio which is a handicapped person’s nightmare. The patio is gravel making it difficult to maneuver my rollator. We parked it by the entrance and sought the nearest table. This area was done on the cheap. The benches are curved wood and narrow. Hard on the butt. Decor is creative. Mostly painted design. This part of atmosphere earned it a one. Food is good but I have to admit it was not exceptional. On the North Fork every community has a Latin population so restaurants are all around that can accommodate me when I want a delicious meal. My daughter ordered from the bar as no server came to the table. And we cleaned up after ourselves. We didn’t see anyone during our meal only when she brought our selections to us. I hate to say this but the recent article in the North Forker didn’t adequately prepare us for our experience.
We’ve been coming here for about 20 years and have always loved it. We miss walking up to the counter and ordering. Wish there wasn’t waitress service.
This place is nice and the food is good. The lower score is because we expected it to be what it used to be, which was a low-key, informal, and affordable spot to grab some great Mexican food. It’s now table service instead of counter ordered, the prices are approximately double, and while it’s nice, it just isn’t any of the things we used to love about it. I’m sure they’ll do great, but it’s not the same
When i first arrived I tried to get the attention of the staff to place my order. The person was on their phone in the kitchen. I had to ask two other patrons where to order my food. When i finally got to order, I ordered the Hanal nachos, a taco, and sangria. When I got my food, i was expecting my food to be hot. The cheese and the meat on the nachos was cold. The meat in the taco was just as cold along with the cheese. In my sangria, I found a sticker still attached to the fruit in my drink. Not cool. Over all I would rate the place a three. The food didn't have that much flavor and the fact that it was cold made it worse. The sangria was decent aside from the sticker on my fruit.
The servers were all pretty good. We felt like we had a great service and attention from the staff, but the food isn’t that great anymore. We have been to Funchos multiple times over the years and it seems like instead of getting better it gets worse. We had no sauces, no straws and the food was missing flavor. Paid $20 for an arroz con pollo that was honestly too simple. Chips would have been a great plus
For 16 dollars I ordered a chicken and black bean quesadilla and it was 90% cheese with the smallest amount of chicken and black beans sprinkled inside of it. For the amount I spent I feel like that was such a rip off. The service was great though, the quesadilla was just really poorly made when I could just make it myself for way less. Not coming back.
I had been waiting awhile to try this place and was unfortunately disappointed. We got two orders of the lomo saltado with steak and between the two we'd be lucky if there were a combined 3 ounces of beef. I get that restaurants have it tough with the current economic environment, but paying 20 bucks for some fries some rice and a ladle full of sauce and a few bits of meat isn't acceptable.
If you know Mexican real flavor, then this place is not for you. Food is less than ok
I left feeling pretty disappointed. I always look forward to eating here. I was in the area, and of course I had to stop in. Service is usually meh, but I don’t really care since the food is always good and fresh tasting. That was not the case this time around. Meals were either too bland or super salty and nothing tasted fresh. Tables weren’t clean and workers were on their phones and not being attentive. Maybe it was an off day? All I know is that I left thinking I may not want to visit again in a long time.
We order from here all the time but latley they have not been the same. We ordered 2 chips with guac and only got 1. We called right away and they said hold on we need to talk to the manager...16 minutes later they never came back so we hung up. They alsof orgot a lot of items in the buritos and to top it all off, the one bag of chips we did get were so burnt they were unedible.
It seems like young people work there and I’ve gone there twice and this young lady always provides bad service and she was on her phone and took her a while to service me because she was talking to another person. She seems about 15 years old. From there all the other ladies provide excellent service. Please stop putting young girls in restaurants. Bad service.
I used to love this place so much, have been coming here for over a decade, back when it used to be a great little taco stand with an affordable menu. Was so disappointed after my recent stop in. They've rennovated the entire place to have a boujee feel, changed the entire menu eliminating many favorites, increased the prices tremendously, and, the worst part, the service is now horrible and unfriendly. So much so that we actually left. I don't know what happened, or who they're catring to, but it's certainly not the dedicated local audience that's been coming here since they opened. So disappointing.
The food was EXTREMELY salty, so salty that I couldn’t eat my food. I order 3 tacos and only ear half of one, try the inside of the other tacos and they were salty as well. I had to keep getting up in the morning to drink water and woke up super swallow. Please do not add so much salt to the food.
I have no idea how this restaurant got good reviews. If I could give this restaurant all zeros, I would. Service was slow and we had to ask twice to correct our order. My burrito was overloaded with sour cream on the inside and outside. There was a thick layer of melted cheese on the outside and a tasteless mix of rice and beans on the inside. For a Mexican restaurant this had to be the worst burrito I ever had. While the decorations were good, the Mexican music was very loud .For two burritos and a salad with chicken the bill was almost $80 w/o tip. I will never return to this restaurant.
Six dollars for a basic taco??? Ground beef, lettuce, and pico. That’s it. You charge six dollars apiece?? I know prices have gone up, but that’s insane. You guys are gonna price yourself right out of business.
Very disappointed. I came with my mom and sister we got the nachos which were great but we all got the tacos which were awful. they weren’t cooked all the way and my sister bit right into muscle. the employee said she can take it out in the back but never offered to replace the meal or take it off the bill. paid over $100 for food we didn’t eat since it wasn’t cooked and employees were dismissive and rude. Not worth the money definitely never coming back
