What a great makeover! So stylish and now with a bar too! Food was great!
Well I’d like to say I love the new renovation! I see lots of people upset it is not the same as the previous owners but they must be close minded people or Racists. Yeah I said it because I saw it! I love the twist and flavor they added to the food & atmosphere. Keep striving Peconic Diner! Looking forward for good specials & happy hour, youll be seeing me again.
First time there with my family. Mix of cuisines and all quality food. From the simple pancakes to mofongo. I had a dish of a few layers of thinly sliced chicken breast with plantains and cheese in between. Different and delicious. Burger was very very good. French toast was tasty. Everything was on point. Will be going back!
Had the chicken parm hero and my mom the ribeye steak. They were perfect! Cooked perfectly, juicy chicken with a nice crisp breaded exterior and the bread of the hero was soft and perfectly crunchy. Definitely found their footing and hitting the 10/10 all around. Can't wait to go back in the morning for breakfast!
Mofongo is A+, sandwiches are also great. Service is awesome, make sure you get Marisol she's a sweetheart. Don't be afraid of the change, the food is just as good, and the new look is refreshing.
One of the best eating experiences I’ve had in a long time. I can’t recommend this place more strongly.
My friend and I had a wonderful dinner her. Our server was Marisol, she was very attentive, especially listened to our dietary concerns, Food was excellent, one of the best Burgers I have had. Salad was super fresh as well.
The food was so excellent, I forgot to take a picture before I started eating.
Had an amazing meal. Our server Elvis was on top of things and extremely helpful! Food was fresh and large portions. Too many choices to pick just one we’ll definitely be going back for more!!
Very friendly atmosphere. I had chicken noodle soup.It was delicious the bowl was a little small. I had salmon over Caesar salad .. Then I had the resees peanut butter cup malted it.It was not cold But I still give the place 5 stars. The price was moderate. Looking forward to trying more things on their menu
Our party for dinner had three different dishes. All were excellent, fresh, tasty and well presented. The service was excellent. We had a wonderful time. We highly recommend.
This is under new management and is excellent the food is good the service is good and the place is clean. The old reviews are for the old place which was awful. But I keep going back to this place as the food is excellent as well as the service.
This place was recommended to me by one of the nurses From the hospital across the street, my mom had been admitted to have a hip replacement and I needed somewhere to go to eat. I’m so glad that I came here. The food was absolutely delicious and Elvis took wonderful care of me! If you were ever out in Riverhead or happen to be at the Peconic Bay, Medical Center, you definitely need to check out this diner. It’s not your typical New York style place. You won’t be disappointed ☺️
As a person who was born and raised in Riverhead, I had to come back and see what the new vibe is here. Love the renovations! Everything seemed to be well thought out and creates 2 different spaces wrapped in 1! The new bar and TV are a major upgrade. I ordered the smash cheeseburger and it did not disappoint! It came with fries that were hot and crispy, as well as coleslaw and a pickle. I could taste the freshness of the coleslaw and it was phenomenal. My burger was juicy and tasty and the customer service was on point. My server was attentive and friendly, although I did not get his name, he deserves praise for actually caring about his job and providing top notch service. The owners on-site and asking diners how is everything really puts this spot at the top of my list. I will definitely be back soon!
Very good food, nice atmosphere, and very friendly staff. I did have an empty coffee cup for longer than I would have liked. But over all a great experience.
Our server Elvis was so friendly and attentive. He was a great bartender, the montauk mule was great!!!!The food was delicious, the burger was cooked perfectly and everything came out piping hot! This is our 4th time here, we have had breakfast , lunch and dinner here and each time it was a really nice experience. If you haven’t been here be sure to stop in, you will be glad you did!!!
Been there twice now in the past two months. Attentive accurate service. Excellent wait staff! Food quality met expectations for what you should expect from a Long Island Diner. Even our picky eater was satisfied with their order. Food was served promptly. The soups are very good. Prices reasonable. The Diner was at medium capacity, but even so we were able to enjoy a nice quiet meal. Not loud or crowded like other places. Good location for anyone with sensory issues. Bathrooms were clean. Overall positive experience.
Elvis was very nice, made sure our food orders were correct. My granddaughter loved her chocolate ice cream, as he walked away she said he was the best lol ! Definitely will be back !
I was afraid of the change when we first walked in and I asked my husband "is this the same place?". I always loved this diner and didn't know they switched owners. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The interior is absolutely beautiful. And clean. They have great wine stocked on the shelves. Specialty coffee. The dinner we had was amazing my husband got Mofongo and I got a Cubano sandwich. We split them, as we wanted to experience both dishes because the were both sooo sooo good. When I lived on the east end I always came here. Now I live up island and not so close but this spot will remain a stop for us when we visit. Definitely worth checking out!
The food was excellent. They even made our home fries without salt. The staff is very friendly and would definitely come again.
Wow what a difference! Inside is brand new with white walls and large comfortable booths. All new decor! We each had classic burgers with fries and onion rings. Delicious huge burger and super crispy onion rings. Elvis was our server and he is friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend!
Visiting and was pleasantly surprised. Daniel was fantastic. Super nice and attentive. My food came out perfect and I didn’t have to ask for anything. I enjoyed my late breakfast and will be back. Plenty of parking and easy in! PS Service with a smile. :)
First time dining here yesterday and I’ll be back! This isn’t your ordinary diner, even though it does offer usual diner fares such as burgers, sandwiches and entrees. But skip those as where the Peconic Eatery excels is in its Latin menu. Our meal consisted of chicken empanadas, burria tacos, cubano sandwich, regular and sweet potato fries, and for dessert slices of a chocolate bombe, and warm banana bread pudding. Everything hit the mark and were absolutely delicious. It was a pleasure to have Elvis as our server-he was patient, kind and attentive. Also you don’t feel rushed out-great spacing between serving each course which was appreciated.
The staff and service were great. Food was excellent.
Nice lunch atmosphere and the service was awesome. I started with French onion soup, and it was delicious.
The waitress was attentive and very polite. I most appreciated their attention to detail. The food was exactly as ordered and it was delicious. My wife and I are in the restaurant business and so we feel we are valid critics. Very good.
Great to see a diner still in business. New owners did a great job redoing the place. Great breakfast!
This was our first time here since it reopened. I was a little skeptical at first. But we were both pleasantly surprised. We shared an appetizer and both had something from the back pages. The Latin menu please make sure you go past the drinks to check out this selection. You’re missing out if you don’t. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh and the servings were both more than we could finish. Service was very pleasant and attentive. The price was very reasonable too. I highly recommend you giving it a try.
People are very friendly, and the food is GOOD. Fresh, tasty. We had cappuccinos and the caramel macchiato; excellent. Not your typical diner dishwater, yay! The small hiccup was: butter on the toast when we asked for dry, onions in the gyro when we asked for no onions and no offer to refill our drinks when a refill was included in the price. But the quality and quantity of the food, the price for same, and the friendliness of the staff ensure a repeat visit. Recommend.
I love the food here its delicious best dominican food in the area. Its very clean and friendly. The price is affordable and have plenty of parking. I have not been disappointed and I will deftly come again for dominican food 100% the best in suffolk county i wish I lived closer but I will take a 25 minute ride to eat good food and get great service
It’s a diner-plus. A great turkey sandwich, burger and fries and plentiful breakfast. There is a bit of an overly spacious bar set up but maybe they have the demand for it.
Amazing burgers and great service especially our server Elvis! They are always attentive to the table and ask if anyone needs anything. We recommend to eat here for anyone visiting riverhead.
This place is great! Much more than a diner. Full bar with quality spirits. The whole interior is really nice and very clean. The food was really good and a wide variety of choice including a good amount of Hispanic options, along with traditional fare.
We finally made it here. I'm giving it a good review because we had a nice meal and also to counter some of the 1-star reviews which I think are a little harsh, especially it being so new. Our waitress, who was very nice, mentioned there were some computer issues in the opening days which is understandable. I miss the old diner, but this was not a one-star experience. They've put a lot into renovations and overall, I thought it was nice. I do wish the coffee was stronger/ more flavorful but I wish that at most places. I thought the eggs Benedict (which is what I went there for) were tasty and tasted like they should. The potatoes looked crispy but wish they were actually crispier. They did add peppers which was nice. Wish it was a little cheaper, but then, I wish that pretty much all the time these days. It was pretty much the going rate. Wife's pancakes tasted good. Overall it was a good experience and we'll be back. I'm glad this place is open and hope it just gets better and better. With the work they've put into the renovations I'm hopeful that it will.
Food was super tasty, we kept ordering more! Our waiter Elvis was very helpful. Highly recommended.
Excellent food and friendly, attentive service. Do yourself a favor and order from the Hispanic Heritage menu. Empanadas, Lomo saltado and sancocho are highly recommended.
We loved it! Wide range of options, attentive and friendly staff! Food came quick and was delicious. Will be coming back!!
Awesome food with great service.Thank you, Elvis for all of your great recommendations and the best ever espresso martini. Love the four ladies from LI, NJ, NY, & TX.
A must!!! The food was so good for dinner. We came back to have breakfast. Elvis was great and very friendly. I would definitely recommend coming here!!!
Great food and service. Recommend the CentoAmerican Breakfast - beans were amazing. Whole family was happy and full. Others had delicious pancakes and omelette.
I just had a soul-stirring experience at this restaurant! Their Sancocho soup is heavenly - it's like a warm hug in a bowl. The flavors transport me back to childhood, reminding me of my mom's or grandma's cooking. Great service and ambiance too. Highly recommend! The Mofongo was amazing 🥰 P.S. Don't miss the Sancocho - you'll fall in love with it! And the Nando cocktail with is with Xiaman Mezcal, you need to try it! So amazing
Some of these reviews sound like they were expecting a world class restaurant and not a local diner. I have had food from this diner on multiple occasions and have always had a good experience. The owner is a super nice guy, and his staff do the best they can, just like everyone else. *PS: if you like fried rice, definitely recommend you get that.
What a find in Riverhead! If you haven't been there, go eat there. One of the best breakfast and lunch places in the town! Staff and restaurant were clean and friendly. Nice atmosphere, very spacious. The food was diner delightful. Awesome taste, awesome portions and awesome price. Great coffee! Tell em Barsnobs sent ya!
This was our first time at the Peconic Bay Diner. We had an awesome time. The food there was amazing! I am writing this about 2 weeks after our visit, so I apologize for not remembering our fantastic waitresses name, she deserves the kudos here! She was awesome with her recommendations and service. I ordered the Greek gyro platter with fries...delicious, and the large Greek salad with Spanakopita. The food was plentiful, tasted amazing and was enjoyed greatly! I look forward to our next visit, I'm going to get those pancakes that she recommended!
This was a very solid diner with a few small hiccups. First, let me rave about my sandwich. My Reuben was perfect. Lots of meat and really flavorful. I had a ton of my sandwich leftover for a midnight snack. And it was somehow even more glorious at midnight! My friends enjoyed their meals as well. Nice big portions all around. I only have two complaints. The potato salad was not very good. In the restaurant's defense, I like a particular type of potato salad and our server said that if I didn’t like it, I could order something else. But I had so much of the Reuben left that I didn’t even try the potato salad until the next day. Maybe it’s because the Reuben was so delicious (and I grew up with a lot of different types of homemade potato salad) that I found it to be subpar. The only other complaint was that our server was really attentive at first, and then we waited a long time for refills on coffee and a long time for our check. So, she was great when she took our orders, and she really knew the menu and was super personable, but then we could not find her toward the end of the meal. Overall, I would definitely go back and order the Reuben again!
Salad was great. Onion rings and my son's quesadilla was perfect. My girlfriend liked her turkey club. I love what they did to the interior of the diner. Everyone was nice and the service was A1. The drinks tasted off. The water, the coke?/Pepsi? Maybe it's the CO2 system. Maybe a filter needed to be changed. It's 1000x better than the last owners and I hope they continue to succeed and have a great summer.
Stopped in late after a long day at the hospital, visiting a relative. Missed Northern Diner food, saw the place and went for it. The food was fresh and tasty. Gyro tzatziki sauce was good, with a great dill freshness. I had eggs and corned beef hash. Yum. Family also had the sliders. Excellent.
Very good soups and sandwiches. Great prices.
So nice to see this place open up again. The food was tasty, and the service was friendly, but disorganized. I so want this place to succeed as I read an article about the owners and wish them much success. Being someone that has been in the business for over 35 years, and is a GM I so wanted to stop and talk to the owner on the way out and offer some pointers, because I can see they are trying hard, but there was a lack of training and organization that could hurt business if not improved on quickly. I know they just opened, but in today's world, the first impression is the most important thing when opening a new spot. Good luck guys, we'll definitely be back as the potential of this place is nothing but on the rise.
Food was delicious, service is good but can improve a bit but not too bad, the only thing I really didn’t like were the sticky floors but that’s an easy fix so overall, YES, I DO RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. WE ENJOYED THE DELICIOUS FOOD A LOT!
Very nice pastrami sandwich with a side of salad. Relative to Queens diners there is double the meat for a similar price point, which is refreshing as I like to bite into my meat instead of having a mouth full of bread. The burger with a side of onion rings was also very satisfying and also an "upgrade," compared to NYC burgers, though that would be more competitive priced. I would like to give a shout out to my server, she was very attentive and had me scan in the link for this review.
Was excited to go being it was just renovated. I had the shrimp tacos which was excellent. My husband had cold fries so we asked for a new plate. He ordered the Reuben sandwich. Worst he ever had. The meat was tough and thick and fatty. We had to ask for silverware because there was none at the table when our food was served.
Not great! The French Onion Soup was very good but the Greek Salad was just so so and my husband's omelet was just so so..... the server was nice but not very experienced. Not sure we would go back.
Server Eli got extremely annoyed when we asked if we could split the check between two people. Rolled her eyes at us and asked us “how she would do that?” Visibly annoyed. Wouldn’t have been a problem for us if she just said no. She was barely around to begin with. Food was okay, service was bad.
Calamari was good, same with the salad I got, the sirloin steak wasn’t well seasoned, or seasoned at all, with the mash potatoes also tasting like just potatoes, and no seasoning.
Over priced food . High mimosa 13+change. Omelet was ok not very good eggs where dry. Also tell people if your change extra for sourdough toast ? ! Also tell people you sell frozen hasbrowns not real ones gross.... Not a place I will ever vist again tourist trap!!! 34$ for an omelet toast hashbrowns and a mimosa ... ya no thanks low level for the price will not be back.
It was ok. Breakfast was quick and good.
The renovation is nice and the place is clean, but unfortunately, the service and food did not meet expectations. Our order was incorrect: we received pancakes instead of waffles, and the chocolate chips were sprinkled on top rather than being inside the pancake. The home potatoes were barely warm, and the avocado toast was soggy. Additionally, the waiters did not check on us or our food. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and we won't be returning.
It took a while before a waitress acknowledged my husband and I . My husband was not happy with his "meat lovers egg omelet" he said there was very little meat. I had pancakes, they were ok. I don't think we'll be going back.
I went to the diner twice and really wanted to like the place, but unfortunately both times were a disappointment. At the first visit, my soup arrived without a spoon and it took awhile to finally get one from our server. My husband ordered the skirt steak, which was tough and arrived without a steak knife. Again it took longer than it should have to get one once he asked for it. I had the the steak tacos which were good. A couple of weeks later, I went again with a friend. This time my salad arrived without dressing or a fork??? I decided to play it safe and ordered the steak tacos again. Unfortunately, this time the steak was dry and fatty. My friend order a hamburger. She stated it was dense and bland. Finally, the diet soda for all was flat at both visits. How does that happen???
This is our second time, really want a good diner, but every table received wrong food/coffee. Took 15 minutes for soda given to me in a can to pour in cup. Another 45 minutes for sandwiches. My sandwich was nice but not what was on the menu (added turkey and plain- no honey mustard). They are way understaffed and even with tables numbered have great difficulty. The waiter was fantastic running around the whole side himself. Really need to get act together as summer season is coming. PS there is a 5% off to give a good google review sign just shows why they have some 4/5 stars….
The diner is very pretty and clean. The food was very salty, everything on my plate! The server was pleasant, but I wish she would have asked me at my first bite how things were… I live local, but most likely won’t be back.
At 8:45am, We’d been seated for 30 minutes before getting coffee. That was AFTER we had to ask for a wait person to give a drink order to by literally getting up and going to the counter where the staff were congregating. We ordered everything at once, hoping this would get things back on track, but no. 20 min later, three breakfasts came but, not the fourth. It took another 5 minutes for an easy order of two eggs over to come out and by that time, everyone else’s eggs were getting cold. Bottom line is the food was just adequate and this place doesn’t have its act together at all. It’s pretty, but it seems like no one is in charge or cares. Will be at Star for breakfast next time. UPDATE: My husband decided to give it a try mid-week. He went in, was seated, sat there for 15 minutes. No one came to the table. He got up and left. No one ask him why he was leaving. Not good.
Wanted to try out the new diner and I have to say I was not impressed the menu was very basic not much to choose from. Me personally have some dietary issues so I ordered a BLT and asked to add avocado. This was a mistake they charged me for 2 avocados which I find very hard to believe that it took 2 whole avocados to put on a small sandwich and on top of that they charged $4 per avocado so that’s an up charge of $8 absolutely ridiculous.
I got a turkey club so dry in the meat and rye bread wasn't toasted. My dad got a pastrami sandwich. Fries were undercooked, pastrami was rubber. It's chef microwave here. He didn't even finish his plate. We will not be coming back here. Salt and pepper shakes are dirty and they have the residue of it. It should be clear. A co worker came up, totally dismissed my experience with the food. He just walked away. Glass lamps low so you can hit yourself in the head. The decor nice but it just covers up the bad food and bad customer relations and concerns. I understand the cost of things but holy crap where is the quality of the food and also customer service accommodations with like hey ill comp your food or would you like something else. Alot of times. When 2 orders are bad, the next won't be appetizing.
Breakfast was okay at best. In the burrito the avocado was going bad, the cheese wasn’t melted. Service was nice however. Waitstaff was extremely friendly but the food needs work.
Food was good but gave 2 stars for LONG wait. Waited 30 minutes for a chicken salad wrap. Ordered a wrap and it came with a roll. They need more help in the kitchen and more servers.
My wife and I went for lunch at the Peconic Diner. We ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup and steak tacos. I told the waiter to bring the soup out first. The soup appeared 20 minutes later despite me telling our server, three times, that we were in a rush. The soup was good but the steak tacos, when they finally came out thirty minutes later even though the diner was only about a quarter full and there were plenty of workers milling around, were inedible, as the meat was gristly. I told that to our server who, rather than offering us another dish, said he would report what I said to the cook and was sorry we did not like the tacos. The check I received had a charge on it for two coffees, even though I only ordered one. That he did adjust. I had to wait ten minutes to pay my bill because the cashier was nowhere to be seen. Riverhead could really use a good diner. Sadly, the Peconic Diner is not it.
We had been before it changed hands and liked it, gave it a try but pretty disappointed. The eggs were overcooked in two dishes, two things that should have been toasted were not, slow to get the bill and then some issue. Not likely to be back, they really need to sort out their kitchen. Feels pretty generic in there too.
Probably the worst diner experience I’ve ever had. I knew eggs came in large and extra lodge, but I didn’t know eggs came in extra small! The home fries weren’t even cooked. It was like eating a raw potato that was browned on the outside. I felt rushed out of the diner. I was there for 10 minutes eating before the waitress come over and slept the bill on my table. That’s when I told her about the home fries and she didn’t even seem to care even though she did get me another portion. That one wasn’t much better. So I decided to leave without finishing. My recommendation would be to find a diner, any other diner, even if it means driving an hour, then eat here! The hour drive in any direction has to be worth it compared to what this place sells as breakfast.
June 2024 at the Peconic Bay Diner: A Memorable Disappointment In June of 2024, I made the regrettable decision to dine at the Peconic Bay Diner in Riverhead, New York. My expectations were high, given the diner's reputation, but unfortunately, the reality was a far cry from my hopes. From the outset, the lack of attentiveness from the staff was evident. It took an excruciating 20 minutes before anyone even approached our table to offer drinks. To add insult to injury, the wait for our food stretched to a grueling hour. When the food finally arrived, it was a major letdown. My order of mussels marinara was nothing more than plain oil and garlic, a far cry from the flavorful sauce I had envisioned. My fiancé's wings were equally unimpressive, lacking any discernible flavor. The overall experience at the Peconic Bay Diner was deeply disappointing. Given the numerous negative reviews from other customers, it's clear that the diner's issues are not isolated incidents. Until there's a genuine improvement in both service and food quality, I would strongly advise anyone considering a visit to choose a different establishment. PeconicBayDiner June2024 Avoid StillDisappointing
The diner looks beautiful inside but they put all their attention into looks but the most important part; food and service, is lacking. I ordered the eggs benedict and they came out room temp, overcooked and the sauce was sour. Everyone tried my dish and agreed. No one was satisfied. We also got bacon and it was soggy and fatty. It also wasn’t super busy and we waited over 10 minutes at the table to order coffee. They don’t offer coffee refills you have to ask. The eggs gave everyone a stomach ache for the rest of the day. Also for Riverhead and 2 people it shouldn’t be $45 for disappointment.
If I could give 0 stars I really would! Me and my sister went for “brunch” and ordered omelettes, they were so dry along with being so flavorless and bland. We ordered crab cakes that came to our table cold and served how I’d feed my cat wet food. Not to mention our server almost dropped our food on my sister. It was so unorganized and everyone looked clueless to what their job was, when we address it with the manager after having to go to the front to retrieve our check she was beyond rude and rolled her eyes. It’s a shame this family dinner I grew up going to was once enjoyable and now it’s ruined. I would not recommend .
Why do they charge $20 entry fees, per person? I don't recommend.
Great job with new owners. Warm and clean with great food. This was my post from last year. Since that time I have come here twice and waited 45 minutes to be served when the place was empty. There are some severe who are great and some who are horrible. Never know what you are going to get. Just walked out after waiting 45 minutes for a SALAD!
This was by far the worst diner I've ever been to. After walking in I stood at the front for 5 minutes waiting to be seated. No one greeted us. This place was dead so I can't even say they were too busy to notice. I had to ask to be seated... The inside is updated and fresh looking and that's about the only thing this place has going for it. It took 20 minutes to have our order taken and every single persons order had something wrong with it. The food was not good. The soda didnt even taste good. The waiter was not attentive. Honestly this place seems like they are just winging it. Save your money and go to one of the other food establishments in the area. I 100% will never be back, your new ownership clearly doesnt know how to run a diner.
Me and my family went there for lunch service was bad it took for ever to get there food and when it came out my son order the bbq ribs they tasted slimy and bad flavor I order a Colombian dish name bandeja paisa traditional it comes with rice and beans steak and plantain and chicharon but it only came with out the beans and the steak had bad taste or iron harable experience don’t recommend
I have been there at least eight times and only once did i get what I ordered the service is awful 😖 they don't know what they are doing nothing comes out together, and they forget part of the other. Also they only had one waitress who knows what to do she is not there anymore 😕 I could go on but nobody cares I'm not going back anytime soon. 👎
The best server here is the lovely one from Romania I believe. The others need to take a course or something or she needs to teach them how to do their job better; because when she’s not there, you never know what kind of service you’ll get. Today I asked for hot chocolate and it was so scalding hot, I burned my tongue and mouth and literally screamed and spit it out. Not to mention difficulties with our order. Tongue still tender hours later. I shudder to think what would have happened if this was served to a child. This is an establishment I eat eat almost twice weekly and seriously this may be the last time they get my money when you consider that I spend over $100 or more each time.
First time visiting this place. Clean, nice place. I went to have breakfast with my best friend. The food was delicious, but the service was poor, nothing professional. They didn't serve you properly, and I had to get up to ask the waitress if she could serve me coffee, and the same to pay. Bad experience
uhhh i wouldn’t recommend coming here the food is okay but not flavorful and i ended up getting crab cakes that were so cold in the middle and just i did not feel comfortable eating it. i addressed the issue to the manager and she rolled her eyes at me and just was rude. miss the old owners this was a staple in riverhead will not be returning biggest downgrade and you don’t have the giant rainbow sprinkle cookies anymore….
