Love their rice, bean, and cheese empanadas!
Amazing empanadas and churros!
This is one of my favorite hot spots in Rochester. I definitely recommend checking it out. The food here is amazing and the owners are some of the nicest people you will meet! You won’t be disappointed here.
Love the beef and cheese empanada!
Very good empanadas that are seasoned well and flavorful. Friendly staff and good vibes. Sauces are so good too.
Super duper yummy, always have to stop when we go to the public market
Really sweet people, really good food, quick service.
Very good and authentic mexican empanadas. Not to mention their smokey hot sauce has changed my perspective on hot sauces as a whole and now I only buy from them. Do yourself a favor and go here.
Food is always good, service can be slow at times and waiting for the food to come out. Having people that ordered after you and get the product you ordered and then have to wait again for the new batch is a bit frustrating
Very clean nice guy very yummy good quality delicious flavors
So yummy, giant empanadas, and friendly service. Love this place. Get at least two every time we go to the market.
Very pleasant store, and a churro in the morning is a nice start to have.
Amazing service, and a fun atmosphere
Best empanadas I have ever had. From California to Rochester, I have never had better. I recommend the breakfast empanadas. Make sure to try the different sauces!
A national treasure. The empanadas are delicious, the sauces are stellar. The 1 star reviews are crazy- this is the best fast food in Rochester.
I loved the tasty empanadas
Delicious empanadas, amazingly kind staff. Breakfast ones are amazing! Don't forget the salsa for your food on the way out
It's a bit of a weight and it looks like a long line but always to great things you must wait Delicious.
The empanadas are super delicious! I’ve been addicted ever since I first tried them! I highly recommend them!! Staff is very friendly!
Great empanadas. Spanish mayonnaise is really good
Really delicious I will defefenetly come back.🙂🙂🙂
Absolutely amazing place. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.
brandon is good at his job and is cool and i am a big fan of empanada 👍
Amazing empanadas! The food here is fantastic. They have temporarily moved while the market is under construction so they are at the other end of the market, but the food is still amazing. And the staff is very friendly. If you're lucky Juan will be there and he will talk to you, he is very funny and very nice. An excellent place!
Best empanadas i’ve ever had! been there a few times and my favorites are the breakfast and beef. Very friendly and quick staff. the sauces make it even better. Spanish mayo and red gold go very well with the breakfast. overall great experience.
I've eaten here a few times, it's always the best. Empanads are delicious. Plus they have Sopapillas, an uncommon Chilean dish that I haven't found anywhere else. Love that I can get them here
We ordered catering from Juan and Maria's Empanadas (empanadas, rice, beans and meat) for an anniversary party this weekend and they were wonderful to work with! The food was amazing and the delivery/presentation/service was excellent. We will definitely use them again and again and again. Thank you Juan and Maria!!!
Lovely man and amazing empanadas! Definitely recommend and will be back again!
Juan and Maria’s is awesome! I started going there in 2004 and have been hooked since. Juan is the sweetest, and genuinely enjoys greeting and talking to his customers. As for the empanadas, the first one I had was the breakfast variety and I’ve never even tried another. And you haaaave to try the sauces!
We come here every time we visit the public market, and every time it’s amazing!
I used Juan and Marias Catering for a company luncheon, and I will definitely be doing so again! Fantastic food, on time delivery, and great people to work with throughout the process.
Juan and Maria are very polite! Food is great, they make homemade sauces which add even more flavor. Try out the pork and onion if you're a carnivore like me. If you're a vegetarian, they have options for empanadas and dessert empanadas as well! They're located at Rochester Public Market if you're in the area
Amazing empanadas for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack
The very best in Rochester!!! Coming here for years because of the consistory delicious quality of the food and will always return!! Juan is a great owner operator with high standards and he proves it everyday!!
My favorite breakfast ever!!! I’ve been coming since I was a kid and I hope to bring my kids here!!!
Fantastic food, owner was extremely nice and friendly. The cheese empanadas are one of the best things I've had in years. 100% would recommend check them out!
Since the first time I had tried their empanadas I was in love. I buy their cheese empanadas and their vegetable and cheese empanadas. They have the best sauces/dressings to top or dip the empanadas into. I was even able to buy frozen ones from them to make at home. This place is a Rochester staple!
The churros were the hit of my daughters party! Absolutely delicious! Ben was amazing to work with. Thank you!
Absolutely delicious!!! The best empanadas you have ever eaten!!!! The prices are totally reasonable and the quality is amazing. They are great to sit down and eat as a meal or perfect to eat on the go. Try all the different kinds of sauces as well. The staff is so friendly and personable. They have also opened another location in the food court at Marketplace Mall.
Thank you again everyone for the breakfast empanadas. They were really delicious and it was my first time ever trying them. Great people with great food always there to help on those early mornings. Can't wait to come back! Love from Toronto, Ontario
Literally the best empanadas I’ve had I just bought like 10 of them and I’m not exaggerating that number.
All the food looks and tastes amazing! 😍😍
Our friend took us to the farmers market when my husband and I came to visit and said we had to try these empanadas. We got three different kinds and loved them all. The breakfast ones were my favorite. Don't forget to get some sauce to dip them in!
great empanadas, ordered the beef and cheese and chicken and onion
Amazing food. Incredible sauces. Addiction alert! The slogan on their sticker says "OK, I'm addicted " and it couldn't be more spot on! Not only was the food amazing but once you meet these people you will want to keep coming back. The owners are there every day and treat you like family. I highly recommend trying them out. They cater, deliver and they have a store front in the public market.
Juan And Maria are the real deal. They catered my Anniversary party and delivered the food personally! They even stayed to chat a few minutes and we got to know each other a bit. We love their authentic family recipe for empanadas and will continue to order their food as long as we can. They are what local businesses should be all about: personal, dedicated, determined to give their best every day. Thank you for great food. You are great people!
They have the best empanadas!!! I Get them every time I go to the public market!
Staff Is so so nice!!! Food is amazing! Try the Spanish ketchup on the empanadas! The gold red hot sauce is very good also! I bought that one $7. 10% off if you have their sticker on the back of your phone!
Delicious food! They just catered our companies lunch and it was absolutely amazing. I've always been a fan of their empanada's but the rice and beans and meat were delicious as well. They also have great homemade sauces. Good food with good flavor and the staff was great as well!
My sister loves the empanadas here, she was here last year from Florida and came back to get more! Come here!!!
I have been to both locations at the Public Market and Market Place Mall. The food is fresh and delicious. I personally love the breakfast empanada. Every time I have stop there, the employees are wonderful and very friendly.
Great for a quick bite at the public market! Great food and great service! Check them out
Best food at the market! 10/10, never disappoints.
Customer service was amazing and the food was great! Very affordable! Recommended
A great place to go on a Saturday afternoon. Great variety of menu items and none of them disappoint.
This is a must stop place at the Rochester Public Market! We got the veggie breakfast and the chicken and onion empanadas, and they were incredible
Every time I come to the public market, I have to stop here. These empanadas are the best in North America, hands down. An absolute must if you’re at the Rochester Public Market!
My family and I LOVE Juan and Maria's restaurant. The atmosphere is family friendly and the workers are wonderful. My family love the beef and cheese, beef and onion and breakfast empanadas, The rice and beans and the sauces are amazing, as well. Everything tastes so fresh. Loving the strawberry cheesecake empanada and looking forward to trying the tropical cheesecake next.
Had beef and cheese empanadas and came out hungry for more, truly a great little restaurant and a must try if you find yourself near it
We have been going here for 10-15 years for the breakfast empanadas. And the rice and bean combo. ROC staple and the public market is great Sat mornings
Empanadas are always delicious. Never had a bad one, ever, in the years we've been going. Their house made condiments are delicious and well worth getting to put in your fridge at home. It gets very busy at times and consequently there can be a wait and a shortage of seating, but that's not their fault obviously.
I am extremely picky when it comes to eating out. I also don't want to spend too much eating what I like. A friendly atmosphere with friendly staff is a must for me. This place has it all!! The staff is super friendly and helpful. I wasn't sure what exactly to eat when I arrived. I heard so many good things about this place. The staff helped guide me and helped me choose precisely what I wanted. They have various specials. When you buy various Empanadas they do better deals. This is exactly what i wanted. More bang for your buck. Staff was outstanding and they helped me choose all the different Empanadas flavors. They have the best selection in town. They have about 10 various options. They are also Vegan friendly with some items. I also decided to try what they call a combination platter. I had the rice. Beans and chicken but they also have pork, I believe. That combination platter included one free Empanada. AMAZING! It was so delicious. They also had many different options in terms if drinks. They have a delicious coffee hot or cold as well as many Spanish drinks. I've heard so many good things about this place I had to try it for myself. And I'm glad I did...this was outstanding. I would recommend this place to anyone. I will be going back to try their wide selection of Empanadas soon 😋 if you've never been here but wanted to try it. Make sure to do so and bring some friends. We had a great time dancing to their Spanish music. They had a very long line but went by very quickly. The staff was super fast. I only waited in line for about 3 minutes.
My family and I stop here almost every Saturday when we go to the public market and the breakfast empanadas are our first priority. They are consistent and flavorful and the sauces are really good. They have a variety of drinks and you can get through the constant line quickly because they are efficient. Check out this local gem!
We were fortune enough to meet Juan and Maria. Their story is as fantastic as their service and empanadas! Met in Chile @13, Juan moved to the US @16. Married at 23 and besides their 42 years in business they have been blessed with 5 children and 10 grandchildren! I’ve never had a breakfast empanada and it was a taste sensation!!
friendly staff, great food. homemade sauces, homemade juices! I haven't tried something and not liked it. you can even purchase the empanadas frozen to bring home.
We have been going to the public market for years and being able to stop at Juan and Maria's has been a highlight. They have definitely made their mark there. Couldn't imagine them not there.
Excited breakfast empanadas at the public market. I had the chicken and onions. Their hot sauce is solid and love the hometown feel. A must try when at the market. Fast and delicious. Mouth watering goodness in my opinion.
I used to rave about this place. I stopped ordering because it was a bit pricey and the food started getting to me cold. Now, they keep cancelling my orders. I wait until they’re open, order and get cancelled. Once I waited at least an hour before I got the message it was cancelled. Done. Edit April 2021 - Ive ordered a few times in the past few months and everything has been good like it was before.
Juan is pretty hospitable and open with his customers, always willing to sit down for a chat if he's not running about making sure the food is getting delivered himself. Maria is an absolute sweetheart and was a joy to work with, along with my old coworkers. The only real complaints I've heard from customers were the prices and the amount of onions or salt. Prices for one empanada tend to be a little steep, especially since they are not a full meal. For that I recommend the plate with rice, beans, meat and an empanada. The one star comes directly from prices, a bit on the recipe, the wait times, and lack of a better system for orders. Otherwise, things tend to be pretty tasty, I mostly smother my food with the green sauce, which is always low XD.
The breakfast empanadas are a MUST before you hit the rest of the market. Simple and delicious!
Even though the price of $6 plus up charge for breakfast one is outrageous, We love the food here hence the 4 stars. not being able to tell which kind is which and being told to look at the chart for the “holes” is frustrating when you have many people getting different kinds and take to go. Would love a better system. Maybe little toothpick flags or something.
Pretty tasty empanadas! Tried this place on our regular trip to the market & it was good. Rice, bean, and cheese was the better of the two we tried. It was hot, flavorful, and well filled - though perhaps a bit salty. I would get this one again. Veggie breakfast was just okay. It was notably less full than the other one, and wasn't quite heated through all the way. Compared to the first empanada, this one didn't have a lot of strong flavors. Maybe we just got a bad batch here - so I'm willing to give this one another shot next time. Service was quick & the people working were helpful & friendly. I'll be curious to come back again & try some of the other options here
Some years ago, I used to always order the empanadas by the dozen. They were inexpensive and tasty. Today they're too expensive ($4 and change) each and the taste is much different. If you've never had food from here before, you might like it but I remember how it was and it's just not what it used to be.
I'm sad that their empanadas is getting more and more expensive. 6 dollars for 1 empanada is a bit pricey specially when it's not freshly made from scratch right in front of you. I don't mind it when it used to be cheaper but now at 6 dollars, that's pretty steep unless if they made the pastry fresh with fresh filling in front of you and fry them per order. That would worth the price. I guess I'm making my own empanadas now. Everything is just too much. It was nice while it last.
We had the Combo Plate which was an overall good value. The food was hot and fresh but did not meet the expectations for all the hype. Service was friendly but lacked the awareness for little things like keeping the sauces full. The selection of sauces was excellent. If I attend another event at the Market I would consider patronizing them again because it was a fair value.
The food is great sometimes salty but good, only issue I have are the prices for the size of the meal you get prices are too high taxes seem way off
Salty, salty, salty, and expensive. I am latino, I know what an empanada should taste like. Spent $47 for 9 empanadas (chicken, veggies, pork, beef) 2 orders of churros and a soda- hot sauces super super salty. Empanadas are roughly 45% more expensive here than they should be. The only best thing that we enjoyed were the churros with chocolate dipping. And staff is really friendly. Cleanliness is meh. You are only paying for the brand and long known family business.
Used to go in person and the actual Juan and Maria were in charge and everything was great. In person... With the pandemic, I've ordered for delivery a few times and.... No, just no. For whatever reason, they're not equipped to do takeout. This most recent time I ordered two sauces (as in bottles of, not sides) - chipotle and Spanish ketchup. I got Red Gold and Green Gold - both are good, but they're not at all what I ordered. Then the food... The rice is always HARD. Always. And the chicken on my Juan's brunch? It was grey and greasy and inedible. It didn't used to be like this, but maybe that the difference in sitting down to eat there, and their takeout. The delivery of their delivery is SORELY lacking.
Overpriced, dirty, prices not posted anywhere so they can blindside you. About $20 for 4 empanadas, all of which tasted like garlic salt and were stuffed with mostly onions. Dough tasted overworked and hard. Worst empanadas I've ever had would never come back.
We really love these empanadas but we feel really ripped off. We went to take some frozen ones from the market and they wouldn’t honor the deal on their menu for this. It really disappointed me that we had to pay a higher price for a less effort option when we were taking more home to enjoy through the week instead of eating at the market
Food nasty price would have been worth it if it didnt taste basic /imitation of real food. Also was little portion could have spent my $5 at taco bell and would have been better
I am currently waiting for my 2 empanadas. I started waiting at 12:30pm and it's not 1:11pm and still have not received my empanadas. That's 41 minutes to be exact; without a long line or many people in the way. This is ridiculous and this establishment does not have employees who meet the requirement of speed that the food industry demands. I regret to inform, I will never be coming back.
If I can give 0 stars I would. I have had many Empanadas, but this is by far the worst! 20 dollars for 4?? Really? And we were told buying 4 you save a few bucks! I will NEVER go back. #Justiceforempanadas #Whereisjuan&maria
I got 2 beef and onion empanadas for $9.50, as this was my first time trying it I will say it was hands down the worst empanadas I’ve had. I got served more like a onion empanada with limited flavor.
Pork was salty and beans just not good. I will not be going back this did not taste like, any spanish food I had before. Just bad smh.
Hello everyone I Came every Saturday for the something but this last visit was very bad coffee wasn't hot bad customer service. No shopping in that shop I use to love it
The enpanada was pretry good but they charge me 60c for sauce on the side in a little cup. The cup was less than half full and contained about a teaspoon and a half of sauce. They also prompt for a tip when all they do is take the enpanada from under a heating lamp and hand it to you.
If you want to spend too much money for bad coffee and over salted empanadas, this is your eatery.
Went there for the first time today and I was less than impressed. The food had a generalized flavor which you don't expect when it comes to an empanada. I ordered 6 empanadas and a bottled orange juice they called a "specialty drink". After paying $27 for my meal I couldn't even finish it and it got thrown away. I couldn't suffer through the taste for very long. I got a beef, a chicken, and a breakfast. All of them were just about the same level of nasty. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Unless they would like to purchase really expensive garbage. The one star I did give is because the staff was very friendly. I won't be visiting this place ever again
We ordered a 6 pack. The chicken and onion was still frozen. We brought it back and tgey just warmed it up and gave it back to us. The others did not taste very good. And to spend 30.00 dollars on that was very very disappointing. Also who warms up food and hands it back...absolutely unacceptable.
The worst empanadas. These are absolutely disgusting and over priced. Two empanadas was $13 and I couldn't even make it through one bite. The shell was stale, over cooked, and not flaky, the interior tasted like canned French onion soup. I will never ever try one of these again even if someone paid me. If you want a real empanada go to El Sabor De La Isla or Georgies.
I bought two beef empanadas and they were the worst I have ever had. I happened to be at the Public Market and decided to find out for myself what the hype was all about. The stuffing had so much onions that I sure didn't see much beef in them. The bitter after taste was terrible, I had to throw them out. They are certainly overpriced. The empanadas that I'm used to eating are full of flavor and meat. Maybe is a Puertoriquen thing. The service was fast and friendly.
Worst empanadas I've probably ever had. Dough was raw and chewy on my beef and my chicken empanadas. Very generic tasting; how do they make beef and chicken taste the same?! The sauces they pair with them is ok. My kids liked the churro. Paying $35 for 8 empanadas was a huge mistake I'll never make again.
I do not like leaving bad reviews, but I feel like I must. The staff was friendly. I went in there to enjoy the Food Truck Expo at public market. We decided to get an empanada before working the lines at the trucks. We decided on beef and cheese. I had the beef. We were three people, but she told us that we would save a few bucks if we got 4 instead. So, that's why we added a cheese. The 4 empanadas ended up being $20! At first bite, all I could taste was the pastry part. The dough was way too crispy. I love crispy...don't get me wrong. I even enjoy when some come out a bit burnt, as long as there is flavor, it is fresh, and not black. Anyways, the dough tasted really stale and flavorless. When I finally got to the meat, it seemed to have decent flavor at first, but it had am almost soap like aftertaste. The people I came with didn't taste the same thing, so it was probably just me. However, they agreed that the consistency of filling...plus the flavor...was off. We are Puerto Ricans 🇵🇷 so empanadas is common in our homes, which is why I didnt want to critique it too much. Everyone has their own way or making things and have preferences and whatnot. But I can say that it was overpriced and something I would never eat again...not even for free. The guy who ate the cheese said the insides tasted better than beef, but the dough was way too stale and overworked. I was excited about this place, and hoped it was better since they offer stuff for those who didn't eat meat. I will post menu and let you decide. Maybe those who did not have empanadas growing up may enjoy one from here...but it is a firm NO from me. I am disappointed and felt $5 is excessive and to think that she claimed it was a "deal". I didn't even finish it. I ended up throwing it out before leaving the building. I did go to food truck at the market soon after and tried their empanadas. Their empanadas were the same price, which may come with the territory (food truck event) but I am happy with the pizza one I got from there.
