Opinions de Java Wally's Rochester
Not too many thing to eat here great if you just want beverage. The chai tea is to die for, one of the best.
Love javas! The coffee and atmosphere are both excellent. The space is big enough where you can go study and it doesn't feel crowded. They also have a lot of really great desserts. Probably by favorite coffee shop in Rochester!
Really cool cafe with a nice laid back vibe! The coffee is really good and they have tons of pastries and sweets as well as a kitchen serving sandwiches and other food. The ambiance is nice and it’s very spacious so there’s lots of seating. The only downside is there’s only street parking nearby so you’ll have to pay to park if you visit!
Stopped in while in Rochester, friend said it was her favorite coffee shop. I had the chia tea both cold and hot (I went two times in a weekend) both the cold and hot were delicious. The spot is super cool and with lots of artwork. They serve coffee, tea, espresso, and some food. I did not get any food because they weren't open. Service was excellent both times. Would go back for sure more but I don't live around the area.
Cool ambiance and the baked goods (I didn’t try) looked great, and the coffee was solid. My redeye (drip with an espresso shot) started out a little roastier than I expected on the first sips and by the bottom had smoothed out and had complex flavor. Definitely worth a visit.
Love the staff. Love the coffee. They also played the Magnetic Fields and PJ Harvey back to back. Javas knows the way to my geriatric millennial heart.
Recommend the coffee they make great lattes. Cafe ole is a lot like a latte for less with foamed milk btw. Wish they would bring back the French toast coffee, was better than angel kisses or Jamaican me crazy. Had me coming back all day for refills! If you like Picasso paintings or independent artists work surrounding you while you sip your Joe this is the place for you.
This has got to be the best coffee shop in the entire world. Their coffee is so good, the best!! And I love their hours! They open early, and they stay open late, you're not going to find that anywhere! You guys rock! They even have vegan options!!
The atmosphere and decor is lovely. Haven't had their food, just drinks. Parking is rough depending on the time.
Favorite people watching in the entire city, and the coffee isn’t bad either!!
Loved their coffee and the atmosphere, so unique
I really loved this place. It has a really rich interior, lots of interesting art on the walls, lots of little nooks and crannies and yet feeling spacious with its high ceilings. Although it's in a part of the downtown where there are tall buildings and the interior spaces tend to feel dark, the large windows do help it feel a bit brighter. There are also a diverse array of baked goods here. I really loved the flourless chocolate cake. Probably my favorite thing about this place, however, is that it served high-quality loose-leaf tea. I am a huge fan of places that actually brew tea from loose-leaf, especially when they have good tea. I also was impressed at how quickly the staff served people. There was a pretty big line when I got here, but it moved so quickly that it was a non-issue. I tend to like most independent coffee shops, but this one is definitely above-average in the ways I care about.
Love the atmosphere of this place. It’s Eclectic feel takes me back to some of the hard to find Miami cafes that are off the beaten path but once you find them, you frequent, and bring all your friends. Perfect place to get a tasty treat and do some work or relax. I got the Parmesan leak pastry and it was phenomenal. I also bought the iced coffee that was amazing as well.
Best coffee around, terrific vegan desserts, phenomenal hours, coolest place around. Don't change a thing. Even the workers are Awesome. You guys rock, thank you for all you do
I've always had a nice experience at Java's - their drinks are delicious, I've gotten nice sandwiches with homemade chipotle mayo, the desserts I believe they get from another bakery but are exquisite and a nice little treat, and the atmosphere is low-key and artsy, definitely a place you want to linger at.
Farmers market stand today. Kinky reggae lemonade delicious. So worth the extra 1$. And the largest homemade rice Krispy treat I've ever had And the counter gut very friendly and personal. A bargain. Putting the other food vendors to shame. Highly recommend Dave
If someone from out of town asked me for the best coffee shop in Rochester, this would have to make a top five list, if not number one. It's got what I believe most people want out of a coffee shop experience. Quality Drinks, Unique atmosphere, Good service, Good hours and accessibility.
Very nice coffee shop in the heart of downtown Rochester! The atmosphere is very warm and eclectic with the walls covered in art. The coffee was delicious and the variety of teas for sale was impressive. Great place to come grab a pastry/sandwich and a coffee to study!
Love this coffee spot! They roast their beans. Coffee is good. Cool hangout spot right by the Eastman School of Music. And the hours - 7am - 12am everyday! - are amazing for night owl coffee drinkers like me. Not sure if they have a skim or low fat milk option but if not that would be helpful. Add a star if you dress goth.
A place to meet alternative people, for a show, a coffee, and a snack. Love the art.
Great coffee been coming here and around the area since I was a kid (born in 2000). I love love the yerba mate as someone who wants caffeine but doesn't like coffee! Always love the art and whenever my friends from out of town visit I bring them here :) I always grab a bag of fresh ground coffee to ship back home as well. PLEASE never stop!
One of the best cafes in Rochester. Great coffee, servers are nice, atmosphere and vibe are on point, and best of all they are actually open late. Pool tables downstairs and plenty of room to sit if alone or with a group. Music can get a little wierd at times but that's about my only critique.
Great coffee and relaxed, eclectic atmosphere - evening staff makes a mean london fog! Great place to hang out, especially as it's open late.
The best coffee place in Rochester! Atmosphere, service, coffee - amazing. Few recommendations is to have on sale your amazing bread pudding more often and change decaf process to swiss water.
It's a lovely cafe next to the Eastman School of Music so I frequent it nearly every Saturday, like most other parents bringing their kids for classes/lessons. Lots of drink, breakfast, and dessert options. Plenty of seating and interesting artwork. Line can get pretty long and each barista takes one order at a time, unlike at other coffee shops.
First time at Javas Cafe and I really enjoyed it! Stopped in out of necessity to kill some time but ended up loving the interior design, people watching and overall bohemian atmosphere that reminded me of the small funky coffee houses of NYC. Great artwork to look at as well! Oh! I just had a hazelnut coffee but it was delicious too. 😁
Nice coffee shop, some fun events here. Lots of space.
Just stopped in for a quick bite after a long morning at the DMV. Oh wow. The environment is so warm and welcoming. The lovely human making the sandwiches had this joy to them that turned my day around. And the sandwich I got was delicious. Simple food, done well. I will be coming back!
Great staff. The food & coffee was great. I went here with a friend & they gave my service dog a pup cup. Very accommodating. Will come again.
Wow! We recieved the best service tonight and both our coffees (different kinds of coffee) were made with care and kindness! Our server even washed her hands before and during making our coffee! Great service!!!!!! A++++
This is such a cute coffee shop with plenty of seating and nice atmosphere. The food was good (I got the plane Jane sandwich, raspberry almond pastry, and flat white) and everyone is really really nice. I love the coyote in the window and the decorations in general.
I’ve been going to Java’s on and off for 20 years and they have always been my favorite spot in a city with a lot of great little cafes! The drinks are great but what pushes it over the edge, for me, are the sandwiches! Gosh, the glory of these sandwiches can not be overstated. The bonus is that the folks there are very friend and wonderful people! Do yourself a favor, go and get some sandwiches!
The dining space is thoughtfully designed and comfortable. It adds to the overall enjoyment.
Java's in the downtown is one of my favorite places in Rochester. They have outside seating area. The drinks and snacks are very tasty. Especially coffee are not sweet as other café, that is the reason why i like Java's. And also they open until 1a.m which is really great for people who love to have a cup of coffee and play pool at night cause they do have pool tables underground.
Great coffee shop with a unique atmosphere and fantastic people watching. I love stopping in here during the day when in the city on business or in the evening after a show or a game... Or just to hang out and watch the Eastman School students and business people who frequent Gibbs Street and the East end.
I love coming in here to do some work and enjoy great drinks, but today I was able to get lunch for the first time here and it was delicious! The two people working the counter were efficient and very kind, and provided me with awesome service. I am definitely looking forward to trying more lunch items!
Most of the employees are great. The man who serves the sandwiches is very pleasant and personable. He's probably got the best customer connections ive ever seen. Give him a raise he keeps the cafe so tidy.
Super disappointed they don’t make their chai like they used to! It used to be the best chai I’ve ever had when they did it made to order but they switched to a premade version and it pales in comparison unfortunately. Great coffee shop but that’s disappointing as it was the main reason I went!
This place I feel captures the artistic spirit of Rochester. The coffee and tea here are fantastic and the music playing is always great.
Great vibe atmosphere - delish bites and terrific coffee beverages. I love hanging with a friend and chatting here.
I go to Java's every time I go to Rochester I don't live in Rochester my daughters and my family live there. Java's is my kind of place. This is funny but I sit in the window and I mean in the window and have my coffee with my daughter.
Excellent and exemplary cup of coffee. The Aztec is also delicious. Cool people, good vibe—highly recommended.
The tea and desserts are always great. I just want to thank the staff for helping me this eve. A person in the street told me they were cold and hungry. I have seen this guy around for many years and will usually give him food. So I gave him my rice krispy treat. He then told me he was cold and wanted a coffee. So I told him I would get him one. Went back to Javas and told them that I gave away my rice krispy treat to someone who told me he was hungry and that I needed a coffee for this person outside. They wouldn’t let me get it because this person is banned from javas and always scams people. They replaced my rice krispy treat that I gave away for free. So Thank you to the staff for looking out for me. Im sorry if this review doesn’t belong here but I appreciate the staff and wanted to say Thank you.
Really unique location, artsy feel. Pool tables in the basement! Mostly small circular tables suited for one individual with a computer if you're going to work here. Aztec mocha was fantastic and really enjoyed a variety of muffins and a leek and Parmesan croissant. Back again and still as cozy and delightful. This time tried the ham and cheese with a little bit of horseradish and a peanut butter chocolate coffee made with oat milk, which was superb. About to reorder that Aztec chocolate since I'm lingering.
Can’t get a cup of *hot* coffee in the winter. Every cup that takes cream is turned into room temperature coffee. Keep your creamer out of the fridge nightly so its room temperature when dispensed. Repurpose the leftover creamer when done. Eat the cost. You can’t compulsively march to the McDonalds coffee lawsuit temperature thingy and serve hot coffee in the winter at the same time.
Was in Rochester for a camp at Eastman this summer and legit stopped in at Javas every day of the week. Was obsessed with all of the art on the walls, and the menu variety. Ordered a latte with Irish cream and it is by far the best cup of coffee I have ever tasted. Super friendly guy greeted us at the counter each day and made sure we were taken care of. Staff is incredible, efficient, accommodating. Can’t wait to be back.
Amazing Service and atmosphere. The only thing is it's usually very cold in there. But a place I'd definitely recommend.
Went in and was a little overwhelmed with what to select, as I do in all coffee shops. A very friendly person had just received their order and I asked what that was. Got the same thing and it was very good. A cold drink with espresso. Not as organized as an Sbucks, but that is not what you go there for. Great atmosphere, and decent coffee. I will be going back again, and hopefully moving it to a 5 star. The bathrooms are located downstairs, a very long staircase. With shallow stairs.
It's always a great time when I get to get me some fresh lemonade here. I love how cozy this place is and the staff are always welcoming. Highly recommend!
The coffee here is outstanding. The aroma of freshly ground coffee inside is fantastic... coffee heaven! The sandwiches and soups are excellent. The atmosphere inside is partly college students (music majors) and fringe. Mike Calabrese, the owner, is often in the dining room. Highly recommended!
Their coffee is a hit or miss for me. As a black coffee appreciator someone their coffee tastes burnt (like it has been boiling there for a while) so I suppose the times it was a “hit” the coffee was freshly brewed. In compensation their spinach pastry was delicious and the atmosphere is cozy!
Pastries are okay. Tea is good! Great vibes.
Never have been to a coffee shop before. A friend of mine suggested it and took me along for the trip, and I'm glad he did. Their coffee is good, and the hot chocolate is fantastic. If you want a fun place to be without all the alcohol the Java's Cafe is a place to try.
I came here a lot in the 90s when I was a young teen 13-15 years old<---(not recommended in today's society to be downtown without adults or parents). Tonight I came here before the RPO with my wife. Good little place to get in some nice conversation as the music is not overly loud. My wife's eggnog cappuccino was delicious! My plain old vanilla coffee was not so glorious. Tasted extremely bitter and watered down. Baked goods were awesome giant macaroons are 🔥🔥🔥
I came on a Saturday at 4:45pm and the place was packed. Good chai though. Definitely has the hipster feel.
A very memorable experience that hold dear to my heart to this day (since 2007:Summer time).
Very nice spacious cafe with lots of interesting art deco, close to music school so interesting for people watching as well. The cappuccino I had was meh, but my husband said his espresso was good. We had a strawberry lemon tart that was tasty. Oatmeal raisin cookie was solid, ginger molasses was fine (my husband enjoyed it, I’m not a fan), the chocolate chip was a letdown. Still an enjoyable experience though.
We went to the regional market first but that was a bust for a light breakfast so my son found this place. I picked a bagel and tea and my family coffee and a treat. Love the decor. Young man behind the counter was helpful and patient. They had some problems with the computer, processing payments but appears to have been an issue that day in the city. Would go again.
super cute in there but i don’t really like anything on their menu, and ive tried the chai, smoothies, baked goods, and lattes. impossible to park near the entrance either.
Unfortunately very hit or miss. Love the vibes inside and service is friendly for the most part. But the baristas don't really seem to enjoy making the drinks and it shows
I wanted to come and enjoy coffee for a school meeting, and had classmates driving in from Buffalo. They are currently closed for renovations (February 2024) and according to google they are still open. We are very disappointed that there isn't any indication that they are closed until you find parking and walk over. Someone who works there was behind the window see a group of people confused, and still didn't come out to explain what's happening or when they are expected to re-open. I am servery disappointed with Java Cafe.
Came in, got a sandwich and Ice Tea. Somehow the price was $18 which is absurd for a premade sandwich. They then "toasted" it. It came out dark as charcoal, and they took like 15 minutes. The cafe is packed with college students which is understandable but it did get pretty crowded. Most likely won't return again. Matthew Out ✌️.
Echoing another review from a few weeks ago, where we got abruptly kicked out at 10pm when their hours were still listed as a 11pm close. They played increasingly annoying music before doing so, including What Does the Fox Say, and then yelled at us all to get out. Heard they're new baristas, idc, haven't been back since, put such a miserable taste in my mouth. Another friend had the same experience. Bad look for a Roc fixture.
We just got kicked out from this cafe rudely by a worker who randomly turned off the music and shouted at all the customers to get out because they were closed even tho Google says they close at 12pm and it was 11pm. No one ever approached the customers beforehand to let us know they were closing soon. SHE WAS VERY RUDE
