This place I feel captures the artistic spirit of Rochester. The coffee and tea here are fantastic and the music playing is always great.

I go to Java's every time I go to Rochester I don't live in Rochester my daughters and my family live there. Java's is my kind of place. This is funny but I sit in the window and I mean in the window and have my coffee with my daughter.

Was in Rochester for a camp at Eastman this summer and legit stopped in at Javas every day of the week. Was obsessed with all of the art on the walls, and the menu variety. Ordered a latte with Irish cream and it is by far the best cup of coffee I have ever tasted. Super friendly guy greeted us at the counter each day and made sure we were taken care of. Staff is incredible, efficient, accommodating. Can’t wait to be back.

A friend took me to Salinger's recently and I found that I liked it quite a bit. The drink prices are not overly high, they have many alcohols in stock, and peanuts are free at the bar. I have now been there a few times and everyone's always been friendly, and there have been many bar games to keep people busy. It's not really an upscale place, more like a neighborhood friendly bar located in the middle of the city.

Awesome little dive bar! Lots of local folks, generally, but a younger crowd and very near Eastman, so music students are regulars. The bartenders and door guys are nice people! They don't usually skimp on the pour so for your buck, they're one of the better values in town. If you're seeing an opera or hearing the RPO at Eastman its a good place to stop for a drink while you wait or to unwind after!

Love it! Super friendly staff, cheap beer, good atmosphere and plenty of arcade games. Even the customers are nice to each other. My boyfriend and I are in Rochester for 3 months and this is our favorite bar.

This place was awesome! Came because they were the only bar open late on a Monday with a pool table. Had drinks, popcorn, played pool and were happy to find plenty of other bar games as well. It was pretty empty but we had a group of 11 visiting and had no problem getting drinks or moving around.

Went here twice on the same day with a friend on a Wednesday (I know). When we were there during the day the bartender was really cool and knew what beer to hook us up with - the fellow patrons were friendly and not intrusive. We went there later that night and for a Wednesday there was plenty of people - we played darts and billards without interruption. My friend got away with playing our nerd rock and 90's music without any resistance. All around cool place.

Have had great times here with my friends! The food is good and the beers are local which is always a plus for me. If you're not sitting at the bar for a cold one, you can throw a few darts and listen to some live music. Location is in a great spot on East Avenue too.

I went to Salinger's for the first time during the Jazz Fest mainly because there were 5 and 6 dollar beers at the tents and I figured they would have cheaper beer. It is a great location and I walked into something I didn't expect. They have a great selection of beer and a lot of room for people to hang out. They have a nice area of games, including foozeball, air hockey and pool. They also have a small area to hang outdoors and enjoy the weather. Great Bar.

I came on a Saturday at 4:45pm and the place was packed. Good chai though. Definitely has the hipster feel.

Very nice spacious cafe with lots of interesting art deco, close to music school so interesting for people watching as well. The cappuccino I had was meh, but my husband said his espresso was good. We had a strawberry lemon tart that was tasty. Oatmeal raisin cookie was solid, ginger molasses was fine (my husband enjoyed it, I’m not a fan), the chocolate chip was a letdown. Still an enjoyable experience though.

A very memorable experience that hold dear to my heart to this day (since 2007:Summer time).

Cool place. Local bar downtown. Large, so it doesn't feel overly crowded. Good variety of drinks. Lots of arcade games including skee ball, basketball, bubble hockey, and darts. Free popcorn, too!

Unfortunately very hit or miss. Love the vibes inside and service is friendly for the most part. But the baristas don't really seem to enjoy making the drinks and it shows

Great bar. Approaching close we were kicked out and tried to obtain a rideshare/taxi service. There is an enclosure that ensured a warm environment during a sub freezing environment. While waiting for our ride share, the bar associate was very rude and kicked us out of the heated area into the sub freezing temperatures with a windchill of 0F. I have gone to the bar for years and this will be the last time I will.give them business.

Echoing another review from a few weeks ago, where we got abruptly kicked out at 10pm when their hours were still listed as a 11pm close. They played increasingly annoying music before doing so, including What Does the Fox Say, and then yelled at us all to get out. Heard they're new baristas, idc, haven't been back since, put such a miserable taste in my mouth. Another friend had the same experience. Bad look for a Roc fixture.

The bouncer Henry has consistently harassed me any time I come into the establishment no matter what I do. Henry makes me extremely uncomfortable and makes me never want to come back again because he has horrible hospitality. I understand doing your job, but consistently singling me out is unacceptable as I work in the service industry. I would never want one of my patrons to feel the way I do as I walk up to the bar and see him in the window. Bartenders are amazing, but I am not going to come back again after being harassed time after time again.

Came here from out of town to work on a hospital. Came into the bar after working a very long day was very kind and was rejected at the door for my temporary ID. There wasn’t a second person consulted and I was turned away immediately. Tried to explain that I had gotten on two flights and got a rental car with the same ID. I’ve never left a one star review in my life but I guess there’s nothing worse than not even being allowed to try the establishment
