Opinions de Puppy's Game Café Rochester
I had a great time with my family. They have a history of video games section, and a lot of interactive activities for children like an obstacle course, play grocery store and draw your own fish. We also enjoyed the butterfly dome. Most of the exhibits teach you about them, and there was a lot of historical displays. It is a little pricy, and definitely a once in a while experience, but I do recommend overall.
This was my first visit to the museum. I was very impressed. Our grandsons had a great time. There is so much for them to do. Our grandsons are 3 and 2 and there was plenty of things they were able to play with or on. It was definitely worth the trip from Buffalo. They both really liked the Wegmans shopping area. I liked all of the displays of old toys from my youth. The cafeteria had a decent selection for lunch too. I'm sure we'll be back someday.
Best children’s museum I’ve ever been to! We stopped on our way back from the Midwest, going to New England, and my husband is already wanting to plan a trip to Rochester next year, just to spend more time at the museum! My son who was 1.5yo when we visited, LOVED it! I like how there’s activities for kids at every age (even adult nostalgia), and there’s even an outside area for kids to run around in (enclosed).
Outstanding National Treasure in the middle of Rochester! I went to the museum with my 4 year old granddaughter on Monday when senior rates are in effect. It is not cheap and family membership makes more sense than paying admission only a few times a year. It takes several days to appreciate the enormous amount of exhibits housed at the Strong. Parking is $10 on top of admission without a membership. I have been to art and science museums around the world and this museum blew me away. Can't say enough good things about it. Go, just go. Had such a great time that I didn't take many pictures; I was too enthralled with the displays and activities for young and old.
Great time for the entire family! Fun to see some of the displays with the toys that I grew up playing with. Lots of interactive activities for young and older kids alike. Spent about 3 hours there, but you could easily do more if you do desire.
We had an amazing time at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester yesterday. We ended up spending six full hours there, and honestly we still didn’t see everything. There is just so much to do — tons of interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and areas for kids (and adults) to explore. Every section had something engaging, whether it was classic toys, video games, imaginative play areas, or large themed spaces that kids can run around and enjoy. What really stood out is how interactive everything is. It’s not just a museum where you walk around and look at things — you actually get to play, experiment, and participate. It took us about 1 hour and 20 minutes to drive there from Clay, but it was absolutely worth the trip. If you’re in Central New York and looking for a fun family day, I highly recommend making the drive. We’ll definitely be back. ⭐ Highly recommended for families.
The Strong National Museum of Play was impressive for interactive play with so many fun exhibits. We were able to immerse in the toy Grocery Store and Reading Adventureland exhibits on the 1st floor. There were neat areas including the Pinball Playfield and outdoor Field of Play with a D&D dragon statue and Monopoly for photo-ops on a nice day. The superhero strength and city climb exhibits in the Comic Book Hero area were also fun. On the 2nd floor, the Digital Worlds and Video Game Hall of Fame featured many classic and independent video games that kept us entertained on various consoles. We also had plenty of fun in the Level Up area, especially with the interactive stealth zone and wall toss games. These were all included in the admission price but my personal favorite was the arcades with many games from the past four decades. We visited three days in a row here to experience the many parts of the museum. With added admission, we also worked up a sweat on the Skyline Climb rope course and zipline above the atrium. It was well-designed with a safety rail & traffic light system that made it suitable for young kids. The site has a rainbow parking garage with 6 parking entries included in each annual family membership.
I highly recommend. I was surprised how large it was and how interactive it was. There were so many games (board games ann video games) you could play and so many other interactive things. Great for kids of all ages and adults as well. It had so many nostalgia items from toys dating back to the 1800's to more recent. We went on a Monday and it was not busy, we were there almost 5 hours and probably still didn't see everything. We ate at the food court and got pizza and a chicken salad wrap and both were really good.
The Strong National Museum of Play completely lives up to its name — it’s pure fun, learning, and nostalgia rolled into one. We went as a family with both adults and kids, and every one of us had different favorites — which says everything about how much there is to do here. The exhibits are hands-on, creative, and thoughtfully designed, from the classic toys and video games to the pretend play areas and immersive displays. You could easily spend the whole day here and still find new things to explore. The only downside was that the bathrooms could have been cleaner — no soap first thing in the morning and a few stalls looked like they hadn’t been checked since the night before. Hopefully just a timing issue, because everything else was fantastic. The staff were friendly, the layout was well-organized, and the entire experience was memorable from start to finish. We can’t wait to come back — we’re planning for another full day!
We had a fantastic time at The Strong National Museum of Play last weekend. It's truly the best place for kids, with so many fun and interactive exhibits that kept them entertained for hours. The staff deserves a special shout-out—they were incredibly helpful and friendly, making our visit even more enjoyable. This is a must-go place for families!
This was the first time visiting and well worth it. The history of games is deep and will keep you very entertained. The staff was very friendly and the food choices varied. I would have liked access to a reference room with books and possibly a game software catalog. Definitely worth visiting again. Great museum for one or the entire family.
We traveled from Canada for a day trip here. It was a 2 hour drive each way and well worth it!!! I thought maybe my kids may be too old (they’re 8 and 10). I was completely wrong! There are some sections designed more for younger kids. However, plenty of things to stimulate the older kids too. We easily spent 1 hr in the pinball room alone haha. We loved the roof shingling installment, the mini super market, the ropes course, the super hero alley and my fave was the reading adventure area. So much fun! We’ll be back for sure. The only negative I have is the food and beverage options. No where for parents to get an adult beverage, lame… and the cafeteria food is basic cafeteria food. We went around the corner to a restaurant for lunch instead.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY is such an incredible experience! If you’re an 80’s or 90’s baby, this place will take you right back to your childhood with all the nostalgia—classic toys, video games, and exhibits that make you relive those special memories. My family and I had such a great time exploring; there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy, from kids to adults. A perfect mix of fun, learning, and nostalgia—highly recommend!
This is the best place to recall the memories of children and adults. You can experience, learn, and enjoy many things. The playground, skyline, art, Lego, merry-go-round, butterfly experience, arcade, adventure, various story-themed entertainment, and books everywhere were great to bring children's emotions and learning. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time, so I couldn't enjoy it anymore. Next time, I would like to come in the morning and stay until it's over. ^^
Wow wow wow! This was absolutely incredible! I was initially hesitant about what seemed like the high price of tickets- but they were absolutely worth every single penny! We did two-day tickets without adding on the ropes course or butterfly garden (you can pay for these experiences once you’re inside) and it was the best decision. This museum was unlike any other children’s museum I’ve been to- every single exhibit was curated to captivate children’s interests and imaginations. Every single place we stopped we could’ve stayed for at least an hour. We spent about 5 hours in the museum both days and we didn’t see all the indoors exhibits and we didn’t ever get to the butterfly garden or the ropes course. We’ll definitely be coming back and telling everyone we know who’s going to the area to plan a visit!
We visited the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester for the second time this August 2025, visiting from Canada, and we loved it just as much as our first trip in 2023! This museum is truly a treasure for families. It’s fun, educational and incredibly engaging for kids and adults alike. The exhibits are so creative and immersive, and there’s always something new to discover. Our children were thrilled to revisit their favourite areas and explore the new features since our last visit. This Museum is absolutely worth the drive across the border, and we can’t wait for our next visit!
Had a great experience at the Strong Museum! My kids had a blast—there were tons of fun activities for them. I especially enjoyed seeing the classic games from the ’90s, like the pinball machines. Brought back memories! Pretty sure the new generation has no idea how to play some of those, but it was fun showing them.
Wow! Wow!!!!! It is AMAZING!!!! one whole day was not enough. This is the best museum I have been. Period. There are literally tons of things to do there. Many interactive things. My kids spent 1 hour only on the first item (you draw a fish, and it appears on the wall, swimming). And it has tons and tons of things. We barely got to the second floor, where things are even better. Tons of video games with big screens and interactive items. We left at 5pm and did not see everything! The kids had the time of their life there. Do not miss that place!! It deserve 8 stars out of 5!
This was our second time visiting with our son. First time he was 2 years old and he had a great time. This visit he's now 7 years old and was able to enjoy different parts of the museum that cater to his age. He even got to have fun in some of the same sections he did as a 2 year old. This museum is really one of my favorites. It's fun for the whole family, not just the little ones. The history of video games and the history of board games really stands out for me. Very clean and easy to navigate. Highly recommend! My son would also like to add his words: "Most museums we only go to once, but this museum is far away from us, and we want to go to it a lot of times. The Strong Museum of Play is really fun. I love all the sections and could spend a whole day there. Can't wait to go back!"
-Worth A Visit If You're Nearby- The place is colorful, clean, well-organized, and there's a lot to see. The video game history timeline on the 2nd floor brought back a lot of nostalgia, seeing the old consoles and games was definitely a highlight. It's also a lot of fun for kids with plenty of interactive exhibits and themed play areas. The butterfly garden was a pleasant surprise peaceful, warm, and filled with beautiful butterflies flying all around. A great spot to spend a few hours if you're in the area, especially if you grew up playing video games or have young kids with you. Have fun people! ;)
It's definitely mostly aimed at children but there are sections that are fun for adults especially gamers. The ESL arcade area can be fun when it's not too busy. It's pretty well curated considering the density of the collection on view. There's definitely a lot to see in the museum parts. Interactive/play places for children seemed to be mostly at the beginning with the Sesame Street, Wegman's, and Adventure park parts, but some are interspersed throughout the museum as well. The outdoor space had pretty gardening and it was interesting to see the giant sculptures, and it has some games for kids. Highly recommend the butterfly garden. They had baby quails when we visited and they were very cute! With their friend a large tortoise. There were an uncountable amount of butterflies and even a chameleon. Don't miss the butterfly garden!!! Parking garage is spacious and is $7 with museum ticket.
