Wonderful waitresses who are attentive and friendly. South wedge special soup is delicious, except when they say shrimp in soup they mean it literally... Only one shrimp. Soup is mostly chkn but still hit the spot. Hopefully they add more seafood as the recipe calls for. Will definitely be back to try different items! Casual low key nice atmosphere diner

We live right door and visit often. They have great breakfast options and mimosas on Sundays. We also enjoy their melts for lunch/dinner. The people who work there are also amazing - everyone is very nice and they attentive!

Delicious, classic diner food PLUS Vietnamese dishes! A nice mix of food for any craving. The prices are also very reasonable. I am visitor to the area but the food and prices have brought me back! They also offer a wide range of bottled beers and wines. They have plenty of space for large parties as well. I love that I can get breakfast food but also spring rolls - it has everything that you might be craving! The Pho is also delicious and a large serving! They have something perfect for you for either Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner! Plus a great selection of desserts! I will continue to visit the South Wedge Diner whenever I'm in town!

So classic. Great diner, kind service. Unbelievable food (ask staff for guidance, best french toast in the city) What every city needs. Machu Picchu! (Ask for the waitress who travels, she is amazing!). All the staff is superb, and won't steer you wrong. Closed Wednesday I think, so be aware.

This place is awesomely weird. They have an enormous menu which includes all the standard diner foods you would expect, but also has tons off Asian dishes from several different countries. Great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Something to fit every mood. Excellent for weekend breakfasts if you're willing to wait a few minutes for a table.

My favorite haunt. Was so happy my first meal out after over a year was there. It was perfectly done. Poached eggs aren't always easy...they nailed it. Can't wait to go again. I've been coming here for years and never had an issue.

This is a classic family run, family style restaurant. When the Highland Diner looked overrun with a line of people out the door, I decided to walk over to South Wedge Diner with my son for breakfast. So glad we did. It was nice to see so many people from different walks of life in one place. The staff was very quick to bus tables and free up space, so we didn't have to wait long to get seated. The staff was friendly and there were the classic diner options for breakfast. I decided on a crab cake Benedict, and my son got blueberry pancakes, with a side of bacon. We were both very pleased with the food (the crab was real and not imitation crab meat). I realized that I also appreciated how many windows were in the space. It felt very comfortable and homey. The lunch menu looks interesting with some Asian choices and I'd like to go back to try it. The only drawback for some is that the bathroom is in the lower level. So, I would be hesitant to bring any elderly there who have trouble with stairs.

My first time at this restaurant. I had a wonderful dish - Banana Walnut French Toast and it was delicious! Our server was delightful!

Have been going here for YEARS. Never a disappointing visit, the food here is always amazing. Their breakfast skillet is one of my top favorites. The workers and the family running this diner are all amazing people with huge hearts!

This should be a model for casual dining. There’s a very good menu and you can tell the food is crafted by or made by trained chefs. The atmosphere is nice and they definitely went all out with quality furniture and interior design. 5 stars. Great job!

Always a friendly greeting and great food. I have a 222 Breakfast with french toast, eggs, and bacon. Always well prepared and not greasy. Delicious! Not a long wait but I'm never in a hurry anyway.

Just had my first visit here and I was quite happy with everything. We sat on the patio, which is relatively quiet considering the location. We didn't have any wait time to be sat, and the server was quick to get us drinks and take our order. The food was really good, the ingredients seemed pretty high quality, the coffee was good, and the price was reasonable. The only issue I could see you running into is if you're looking for a variety of dessert-esque breakfast foods, but if you're looking for more traditional breakfasts they've got you covered. Overall it was a great experience, definitely going to be back.

I’ve been here twice and have loved experiences. The people who work at and run the diner are so sweet. You can tell they really care about the customers. I totally recommend the French toast and the biscuits and gravy is more than enough to fill you. Definitely my go to diner in Rochester

Good breakfast! Was intown on vacation and went here two days in a row. Large portions and taste. Husband had the sourdough melt and it was sooo good. Basic bacon and eggs were on point. Coffee not the best but besides that everything was great. Worth the long wait on Sunday!

SW Diner is always amazing. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food never disappoints! My lady friend and I went today for breakfast. She had biscuits and sausage gravy with home fries and I had an eggs benny with french fries. Both meals were fantastic. They also get all their pies from an organization that is partnered with The School of The Holy Childhood. Every piece of pie I've had there has been great, and it's pie you can feel good about! Got there, eat there, and tip your waitress well! You won't be disappointed.

This place is the real deal. Hands down, the best breakfast in Rochester. As busy as it was this past Sunday, the wait staff (and kitchen) didn't miss a beat. Old fashioned in every way but do they ever deliver. Efficient service with smiles as genuine as the home fries!

I had a burger n fries as a split with my daughter and my grandchildren had pancakes n bacon. All perfectly prepared and served. Clean and friendly atmosphere. COVID19 compliant and safe imo. Recently, it was my very first time coming here, and I must say the experience was delightful. They were slightly busy, but we were seated immediately. Nice size diner (very comforting inside) with a great host and staff. Even other customers who were dining are super kind. Have to admit the French Toast from here is some of the best I've had... this is coming from someone who absolutely loves French Toast and any type of breakfast - brunch food! This place is a Rochester Gem! We went after other plans fell through. The "regular" dinner food is out of this world....then you hit the Asian Fusion part of the menu. I grabbed the BUN and would definitely order it again in the future. Fresh, fast, courteous service.

Great Diner! Food is always fresh from the kitchen and fast! The waitress woman with redish brunette hair is terrific!!!! She brings all the accoutrements to each table so there is no need to ask or wait for something like hot sauce etc! She is very kind and professional! I had the crispy chicken melt with cheddar instead of swiss and no tomato *my request* my man had the corn chowder *not pictured and he said it was really good and he also had a big burger which could've been better if seared on the grill for a nice crisp but it was good nonetheless! We will be back! Went again today 12/21/25 added pics with potato pancakes! Upgrade thr 222 breakfast to potato pancakes!

I ordered the South Wedge Omelette and it did not disappoint … perfectly cooked, hearty, and full of flavor. I also got a side of the corned beef hash. The corned beef itself was delicious (it’s made in-house), though I wished there was a bit more of it. Next time, I’m definitely going to try it in a Reuben. On top of the great food, the service was excellent, Jenna was so kind and her happy energy truly radiated, making the whole experience even better.

Super crowded on a Sunday but got seated quickly. Took a while to get a server, about 15 mins But like I said, they were busy. Our server was amazing! Service was spectacular. We had eggs benedict. I had the traditional and my husband had the seafood. Both were very tasty! The hash browns were plentiful and the fruit was fresh, not canned. It is worth it noting that while the Bernese sauce was clearly homemade, it was not traditional. But it was very tasty! The atmosphere is meh. It's what you'd expect from a traditional American diner. Certainly not very attractive but the food definitely made up for it! And the pricing was extremely reasonable. I believe we paid $10 for each of us. That's unheard of! I would definitely recommend this place.

Went here because the highland was packed and we are glad we did. The sausage gravy and biscuits are homemade and tastes amazing. I feel next thing on the menu. The eggs Benedict was cooked great. Eggs poached hard as ordered. Cheese omelet tasted great with a lot of cheese. Home fries needed more seasoning but cooked well. Just a little salt. The menu is very big here with all kinds of things to pick from. Customer service was good.

After a hard day of moving my daughter to Rochester, NY, I was starving for a big breakfast. I ordered corned beef hash, which turned out to be outstanding. I also ordered Northern Omelet, full of bacon and Canadian bacon, onions and peppers, which with a side of home fries and toast. Also excellent! Service was outstanding on a busy Saturday morning. Menu is full of American and Asian food options like pho and curries. I will have to come back and try more menu options.

I used to live in Rochester and I was visiting. Southwest diner was one of my favorite breakfast places. I was a little disappointed because the home fries were not the way I remember them. Otherwise breakfast was good.

Great little diner down in South Wedge. Usually less busy than Highland Park Diner and with more seating. Anything off the breakfast menu is great! They also have great club sandwiches. The coffee is pretty good for a diner as well.

Nice diner. Staff very friendly. Cashier did charge a different price than on original receipt, but it was only a dollar. So whatever. Will try again. Note, if you have a bit of a belly... Don't use the booths. Tight fit. 😂

I got a cappucino (pictured) and the steak salad, my boyfriend got the buffalo chicken wrap. Food was really good and our waitress was very nice and attentive. The place wasnt too busy when we went around 4pm. They have a mix of american and asian cusine which I though was cool. I look forward to trying some of their asian dishes in the future.

I've dined in this restaurant since early childhood, when it was formerly known as the Copper Penny. I give it a 4, because I still like the the establishment but it's not as classy as it was when I was a child. It once had fancy carpeting and lovely brass light fixtures. Now it has a classic commercial tiled floor and feels more like I am in the restaurant on Seinfeld. But..the staff are friendly and service is quick. It is in one of Rochester's best neighborhoods; the South Wedge! So you're bound to feel comfortable and enjoy your experience.

The food was terrific. Our waitress, Lindsay, was really great considering they were understaffed for the crowd. Rearranging of the cash register in front of the door seems like a poor choice. The line of people waiting for tables was uncomfortable for them and the six tables they blocked, and the people using the door. They should try another brand of coffee, too.

Great food, excellent service, perfect menu. My wife had blueberry pancakes. They were loaded with blueberries! Their sausage gravy is spot on and the home fries are perfection. Great place.

I really really really loved their music! We went there for breakfast around 7:30. And they had lively music that definitely helped me wake up to start my day. Welcoming atmosphere. The home fries were a little cold. But no big deal, overall it was a nice experience. I will come back to try other things in the menu.

I enjoy eating in and taking out here. You can get a healthy meal here anytime of the day. I have been here with friends who are happy with the the kind of “Bus Stop” diner atmosphere.. then I have been with others that find the layout a little sparse and too Hells Kitchen-y for their own dining pleasure.. lol Again, if it’s a tasty solid meal you want then read the local paper.

Yummy Sunday brunch! Limited Sunday menu but perfect if you like eggs. We do! Server was great and we were not rushed. The rest of the week, they have a very diverse menu. We are never disappointed. One thing is that you have to go down a lot of steps to use the bathroom. Can be challenging if you have mobility issues.

A lovely local city diner. The waitress was on her own, but beautifully balanced a busy dinner rush while we were there. A big variety of food on the menu! Despite getting both American and Asian cuisine there was little difference in quality; both were excellent! I highly recommend the fresh rolls! The Sesame Chicken is also a pleaser! Thanks for a great dining experience!

This is a great diner with friendly & fast servers. It's become our go to for Sunday breakfast. I always get the biscuits and gravy as they are the best I've found in the area. They also have grits but I suggest take a pass on them as they are thin and bland.

My family n friends go every sunday morning plus during the week. But sundays are sometimes the worse there is one waitress who refuses to wait on us or even greet us. We have never done anything to this waitress but she can be nasty unless your one of her favorites. it will not stop us for going there one waitress out of the rest is ok the place is great n great food

For starters, the online menu pricing is not what is the same when you go in so do not go by this. I made the mistake of ordering based on this. When ordering, I asked for my meat and eggs to be well done but when I arrived my eggs were dry af. Understandably well done can mean cooked well or hard but not dry. Also asked for oj and was told it was fresh squeezed but it didn't taste as such-- especially not for $3.50 in a 8oz cup. I could've purchased Tropicana for the gallon at the same price. And it was poured from an unlabeled simply orange juice bottle (which I'm sure of). Maybe I'll try the dinner instead since I was told they have good skillets

Very basic/bland food and coffee. We both had 2 different omelettes, home fries and sourdough toast, both said the same thing about it. Omelettes were SUPER hot and homefries were warm at best. Waitress never came by to ask us how the food was, but noticed she didn't do it for tables around us either. $8.50/each was too much for the quality of food, service and atmosphere (definitely needs some updating). The only item that saved this from 2 stars would be the banana nut bread french toast. Definitely not a meal, but like a breakfast dessert. It was delicious and should be spotlighted,

my family and I met up here for lunch, 6 adults and 3 kids (two five year olds and a two year old). There weren't enough menus, cups or silverware on the table. it took almost a half hour before someone asked us what we wanted to drink. The first 15 minutes we were waiting for half of our party, but still. Then ten minutes after that the waitress came around to ask what we would like to order. so now we've been there 40 minutes and my two year old was having his fill of just sitting there. I ordered the country biscuits and gravy with eggs on the side. The country biscuits and gravy were absolutely delicious.. the eggs not so great. the waitress wasn't very nice to my mother, rolled her eyes at one point. My husband said his food wasn't bad he got a wrap of some sort, but i doubt we will be back.

Waitress was nice no issues with the service. The place itself has most def seen better days it looked like a bullet/bb hit the window we sat at and then lots of debris in the parking lot but it was relatively clean inside and well lit. The food was not very good imo. I ordered breakfast..eggs over medium which were not cooked properly hash browns were supposed to be crispy but instead they were SUPER Chewy! It was bad 👎😔 the toast had about a pinky nails worth of butter just at the center so the rest was very dry and uneatable to me. I also ordered chocolate milk..oof. bad choice. It was just plain milk with a splash of chocolate flavored syrup. I has to call the waitress back over after she set it down and remind her I ordered chocolate not plain milk. She smiled and said oh that is chocolate but I can bring u more syrup if u like? Credit to her for trying and working with what she had lol overall, sadly I'll never go back and ill never recommend it to anybody I know either. Best of luck to them tho!

It took more than 10min for our waitress to greet us. We only saw her when she delivered the food and the check. They forgot my friend's side dish and didn't bring it even after we mentioned it. A mistake we made in splitting the bill would have left her a smaller tip and she tried to bully us into leaving more. Very dissatisfying, which is disappointing because the food is pretty good.

The customer service here is A1. The atmosphere is laid back. The food on the other hand is not my favorite. Ive tried a few of the French Toast and its just not doing it for me. The coftos always cool.

First of all I want to mention that the staff here was very friendly and welcoming. We went there for a brunch around 11.45 a.m. and place was not crowded and seats were available. There were lots of options in the menu and I was surprised see that they have lots of Asian options as well, including panan Curry. However the food we ordered was not that great. I and my wife ordered two different dishes and both didn't taste good. I would give five stars for their fries tho. We didn't have to wait longer for food and food was warm. But when comparing to the other diners I have been in Rochester, the food is in the three star range.

Delicious but store needs a clean up and update. Had been a few years since going and enjoyed the food recently. But the store was hot (almost no functioning AC), the signs outside are almost completely faded and had been overgrown by plants for a while earlier this year, and the ceiling tiles are stained and dirty. These all make me question the establishment….is the food treated with this amount of carelessness?

Ten minutes waiting for coffee Waitress addressed other customers first, even though I was there before them. Maybe because they dressed nicer than me, IDK. Watched her take my order than run waters for ten minutes to three other tables while taking their order. I asked for.coffee first thing when I ordered explaining that's why I was really there. The food must be outstanding, but I couldn't find a place to put my name in for a table. At 12:30 on a Sunday I walked in the Front door and so no hostess station. I waited by that door, surveying the situation. No one acknowledged me. I saw some people coming in and waiting at the back door. I asked a gentleman in line if there was some place I could put my name in. He pointed to a waitress. I waited, constantly in the way and was no acknowledged (other to be asked to move, 4 times). I made my way to the back of the line, figuring I would just wait it out. No sooner than I had found the end of the line, was I asked to move again (because a table lives there), and STILL not acknowledged that I would be helped. I left and went up the street to the Highland Diner where there is a hostess station, AND as a party of 1 I was immediately seated.

Was really pleased to find a diner open for dinner most nights. Too bad the food is mediocre at best and service is not much better. Also, added charge for credit cards is annoying and illegal (they can offer a cash discount, but the full cc price must be shown).

I am so sorry but we had to give this a 2, even though the staff, prices, and the atmosphere were truly wonderful, it was very clean including the condiments on the side and the menu had great choices. Here is why we gave this a two rating. The food was simply bad.We feel we have to write this so changes can be made. The pancakes were flat, rubbery and hard and my arm hurts from cutting them. the omelette with salmon lox on top was rubbery eggs and subpar bad salmon. The home fries were very undercooked and had no seasoning or taste. I also ordered crispy spring role and that tasted strange with mush inside and a dip sauce that was too spicy. Yes we ate everything, we were hungry but felt the need to write this requesting a new cook.

The restaurant has drastically gone down hill since covid. I rarely go in there anymore. They have changed their vendors the quality of food and taste has definitely declined, they raised their prices and smaller portions. I have sent my food back a few times. The food has been burnt served to me cold, and the restaurant is pretty much empty with no customers everything I go in now. I have been extremely disappointed in the service.

Really disappointed that this local business has servers/employees who will ignore LGBT customers. I just moved in down the street and have been meaning to stop by, but I won’t be coming in now. And even giving the server benefit of the doubt that they weren’t being homophobic, I’d still rather not go to an establishment where customers are just ignored.

DO NOT PAY FOR YOUR MEAL WITH A CREDIT CARD HERE EVER!!! Apparently the owner thinks it’s okay to cheat all of his customers out of an unearned 4% fee of the overall cost of your entire bill for your convenience. Granted it was less than $2 it was enough to screw up my balance for the rest of the month! The more expensive your meal the more you pay. Sticking signs on your doors is not adequate or acceptable under any circumstances! You should have it in bold print on every menu as well as having your entire waitstaff being obligated to inform everyone before they order so they can make an informed decision before ordering. I for one will be voiding my order with my card company since this is not a fair or legal business practice and will never eat there again!

Started off great. I was taking out friends for morning breakfast after a wonderful prayer meeting. Waitress was helpful, providing suggestions to my pastor whose a Vegan. Food wasn't at its best. When the bill came it was $51.79 and I had only $55 so I put the rest for tip. Well to my surprise the waitress got offended and was angry and told the head waitress of my poor tipping. The head waitress came to the table and ask if service was satisfactory. Everyone at the table said yes. She came back again with the receipt and pointed out if i made a mistake in tipping as she wasn't sure if was a 3 or an 8. At that point I was totally embarrassed and I said her rudeness of coming to the table and pointing out what i gave was disrespectful. I also told her i seen the waitress attitude and was going to speak to her quietly explaining whu i couldn't tip her more, but having the head waitress point me out in front of people just let me know I shouldn't come here any longer. When I left I told the waitress "sorry i I had offended you" and she walked pass me with anger. I have been a waitress and in food service before and I don't expect tipping cuz I know people often time comes unprepared for the food bill and tip. I don't say you shouldn't give but to expect it tells me your in the wrong business.

Unpleasant experience! Met a friend for breakfast- we were rushed to place our orders. Asked for more coffee after we ate, the waitress was in such a rush to get us out of there, she soaked the table and my sweater while pouring it. Then asked us to leave as there were customers waiting. We were there for an hour. First time I was ever asked to leave a restaurant. Won't be back!

A customer was there having a meal peacefully and was asked to leave because another customer did not "approve" of her outfit. This customer was wearing pants and a tank top that covered the appropriate areas. I was upset for the customer that was asked to leave because she literally was not doing anything wrong other than having a nice meal with one of their friends. The staff handled that situation very poorly. For that I will never come here again.

Service here has been declining for a long time. I don't typically post negative comments about servers - especially in the pandemic era - but I have routinely experienced disdain and hostility when I've eaten here over the past few years. I hope folks who work here can turn it around, particularly on the weekend when my family and I just want an easy-going local place to eat. If and when I go again, I will continue to tip well (and so should all of you!) but I probably won't be coming as frequently because of the bad vibes we routinely get here.

The food is good, average diner food. The staff was horrendous. The waitress dropped the check the second our food was out. I realized she never brought the coffee I ordered and when I asked for one she gave me the dirtiest look I have seen on someone’s face. She then gave me the tiniest mug of coffee and never came back for a refill or to check on the table even though we were no where done with completing the meal. We were one of two tables at the restaurant that morning so it was not busy at all. I would never recommend someone go there based on that interaction. The food is not worth risking having to interact with a waitress like that.

Service: Slow service, took a while to get the menu, food also took a while, it wasn't slammed. Many table was empty but full of plates and cups from previous customer. I watched a lady come in, sat in corner, waited a while, nobody came to her, she left. Foos/drinks: flavor was bland, watered down drinks, & some of our food was rotten, they took back the food, no idea if anything was done about the rotten meat in the back. Will not be eating here again, significantly better diners out there.

The wait staff dropped off a menu and left. I was in for brunch. I was offered NO coffee, and the staff seemed more interested in talking to each other than waiting on me. I watched them talking at the counter, on not a bust morning. I don't like that feel for a diner. I want attentive wait staff that I don't have to hound for basic service and cordiality. I left and went to another diner. I don't like the feeling that I am taking them away from their social enjoyment to get served. Too bad. This one is close to me. But I got the impression they couldn't care a less about having my business. Maybe they are really well off and can afford to be snooty. I don't know. Ah well.

If you call to order ahead of time, they will answer only 1/5 of the time you call. We decided today, after once again trying and the phone ringing endlessly, to throw in the towel on this place. Terrible for business and customer service. Don't advertise take out if you don't answer the phone. They always say it's down, but it rings. Go to Highland Park Diner - they won't waste your time.

I want South Wedge diner to be good so badly. Service is good, nice people, but the food is awful. Cold homefries, cold sausage links, raw green peppers in the omelet. Get Gordon Ramsey in here.

This was supposed to be Eggs Benedict. It was horrible! The hollandaise sauce was curdled and no flavor! Waitress dismissed my criticism of the food. Poor customer service!
