Excellent food and service. The woman that worked there is the chef and server. Impressed all around. Will be back.
The place is fun. We were asked our names and offered an apple from their tree. There was an outside fire pit. The menu has lots of things (sandwiches, pizza) but we of course focused on the Mediterranean (Mid-Eastern?) which sure makes sense to me. It's cooked from scratch, comes out fast and is spicy (which we liked). The bar outside looks like it would fit in on Bermuda. FYI: I offered to pay cash -- good thing -- since their credit card machine isn't working (and from a review I read from 2 months ago, it wasn't working then, either). So think cash (or ask first!).
This place is a total gem! The food is absolutely delicious and all prepared by the sweet owner herself. I went for the first time last night and had the divine eggplant carpaccio (smoky roasted eggplant, so tender and absolutely incredible). I couldn't stop thinking about it and went again tonight to eat it again, but with more friends so I also got to sample other dishes (which were also fabulous). The atmosphere and setting is also wonderful, with spacious outdoor seating when the weather is good. Can't recommend highly enough!
My friends and I stumbled across garden house after spending the evening at a local swimming hole and were so happy we did! The atmosphere is eclectic and warm, and we loved sitting under the outdoor bar awning adorned with hats and string lights. The two women working were welcoming despite us showing up late in the evening, and all of the food was absolutely excellent! We got the vegetarian appetizer sampler, the savory fig flatbread, and the grilled cod. Everything was delicious, fresh, and portions were large - especially the “small” sampler and “small” pizza, which were perfect to split amongst the three of us. We will definitely be back, and want to return with friends!
Garden House has the best Mediterranean cuisine and amazing energy. Chef-owner Naheda is the kindest person with a loving energy and the food, ambiance and vibe truly make it a special experience every time. The ingredients are fresh, the flavors are unique, and the strong coffee with dessert is delicious. It feels welcoming like a home, not a business. We love going there.
If you’re looking for a taste of home away from home, you must pay a visit to the Garden House. Always serving delicious, healthy, organic Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern meals- served with a side of love!!!! Naheda (the owner and chef) is a unique host who will feed you an authentic, tasty plate of food. There is also a small provisions market, with unique, hard to come by spices, oils, spreads and more. There’s nothing like it!
I just recently went in for trivia night on thursdays. This place was packed! I had such a wonderful experience listening to everyone guess the answers. To top it off, there were cash prizes for the winning team. Maura has done such a wonderful job of setting up all kinds of events for this place, and i'm excited to come back!
Very nice place to eat, indoors or out, fabulous Mediterranean options. I had an exquisite roasted eggplant meal with seasoned rice and scrumptious salad and my dining partner had the lamb and raved about it. Delicious Turkish coffee and super yummy fresh homemade desserts. Not the least expensive option, a choice selection for a special meal with special people.
Hospitable staff serving delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Gorgeous décor, and in season the garden is open, allowing for Al fresco dining. No beers on draft but there are bottled beers. Clean bathroom. Unpaved parking in the rear. In October 2019 the Ulster County Libertarian Party convened here.
I love this place so much. They have a beautiful outdoor setup and the food has always been consistently fresh, seasoned, and delicious. The chicken shawarma sandwich is among the best I’ve had in NY/NJ & the carrot cake is perfectly moist and not insanely sweet. Highly recommend both of them. They also have fresh pressed juice & Arabic coffee. What’s not to love about this place besides the fact that there aren’t multiple locations?! FYI, they’re cash only, but there’s an on-site ATM. They’re also closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and Google isn’t allowing them to update it, so plan accordingly. They also close sometime between 9p and 10p, so call ahead if that might affect you.
A unique experience, with minted carafes of water, Arabic music on the background, and intriguing décor. There is al fresco seating both on the front and back side of the restaurant, which was avoided during this review due to a rainstorm. The food is Middle Eastern, with carnivorous and vegetarian selections. There is a selection of bottled microbrews, several wines and sodas. Dessert is also offered. There is wi-fi, but the code was not requested during this review. The parking lot in the back is shared with local businesses, including a theatre, so it can be busy. The bathroom is clean and includes a shower, which undoubtedly somebody must have tried after three pinot grigios! On May 28th, 2021 the Ulster County Libertarian Social Club convened at this location.
This is a place where 5 stars are not enough! The food is incredibly good, and super fresh - everything is done right at the spot. The owners are beyond friendly. They heard we had a birthday girl with us, and they made the most amazingly delicious surprise cake for us. Big thank you for being such a great host! Can't wait to try the pizza too!!!💖
Great garden restaurant with Mediterranean food. A nice step for those hesitantly returning to life outside the home, as vaccinations opens up possibilities.
If you are seeking relief from corporate kitsch cuisine, than The Garden House, a wee charming spot nestled in Rosendale’s Main Street, is your antidote. Fresh, well wrought pan-Arabic fare in generous portions. An atmosphere redolent with, not only the fine exotic aroma but the feeling one has been transported to a spot Paris or old Beirut. A most excellent Red Snapper…top notch sha’warma and kofta. The humus, baba and tahina! Forget about it. Molto bene. Nice bar scene too…watch for locals rocking the play list and setting the tone…
One of the important parts is that gluten free is more referring to made and prepared GF. If you are GF and have celiac you have only one option which is the watermelon salad. The food overall was good but the waitress was totally overwhelmed and the cook / waitress was not very friendly sadly. I ordered shrimp with my salad, the waitress came with a full portion, she took it back the owner came back with the plate and when I clarified that I just wanted the shrimp as add on to the salad the owner was looking at me and made a very unfriendly comment. I would not come back. And we waited forever for the check.
I was disappointed by my experience at this limited halal Arabic restaurant. Our group of hikers had contacted the restaurant in advance to coordinate a dinner plan, and we were optimistic about our visit. However, the experience fell short of our expectations. Upon arrival, the owner greeted us while smoking a cigarette, showing a lack of courtesy, especially since we had children with us. The family-style mixed meat entree was served cold, and the lamb was rare, the kofta tasteless, and the chicken dry. Additionally, the portions were inadequate for the number of people in our group. We waited a long time for our salads, which seemed forgotten until we reminded the staff. There was also insufficient water for our group. To make matters worse, we were charged extra for items we did not order, and the owner was rude, claiming we needed to order more appetizers despite the already inadequate portions. Overall, I would recommend avoiding this restaurant. It did not provide the quality dining experience one would hope for from an Arabic establishment.
This may have been an off night, but we will never return to find out. Our server was loud and rude. We waited a very long time for everything. We were never offered water. I was told to get my own drink out of the fridge in the dark corner somewhere and then told not to. I asked for a Coke. I was eventually offered a Diet Coke or a ginger ale. The server told us she was “helping out” and not getting paid. She made us extremely uncomfortable. We were afraid to eat the food and decided to leave. And when they charged us $5 for a can of soda I didn’t ask for and $22 for a double shot of whiskey, we knew they did not want us to stay. The server told us that there was another restaurant down the street. I had really been looking forward to eating here. It was extraordinarily disappointing. We will never eat their food. We will never go back to the Garden House.
This restaurant feels like a scam!!! My husband and I have been looking forward to eating here for quite some time and the weather was nice so it felt like a good time to eat at the Garden House, and BOY WERE WE DISAPPOINTED!!! We got there with our family of 5 and the owner told us to sit anywhere we’d like. We were sat down a good 20 minutes before we were even brought menus. We were understanding because the owner was doing everything herself, but it would have been nice if she had just pointed out where the menus were so we could grab them ourselves. When she finally came to take our orders, she told us AFTER THE FACT that everything on the menu had a $2 up charge, but at this point we were hungry, so we just went with it and hoped the food would makeup for the cost. IT DID NOT! She brought out a lamb dish instead of a beef dish, a chicken kabob instead of a chicken salad sandwich, and the quail dish my husband and I got to share was dry and inedible. We got 3 $10 juices that were just handfuls of blended fruit and water. When we finally got our check, the bill came out to $249. We were pretty fed up by this point, but figure’d we’d take the loss and never return. TO TOP IT ALL OFF, when we went to pay with a card, the owner told us they only take cash, and that we had to use her ATM with a major fee. Please save yourself the trouble and do not choose this place for dinner. The atmosphere is nice, but everything else is left to desire.
We had high hopes for this spot, as it had an interesting menu. Alas, hopes were dashed by a gluten free pizza served on thick, gummy and strangely fermented (to the point of tasting slightly spoiled) dough. Mentioned fermentation issue to the chef; she told us it was normal for gluten free dough (it isn’t, or at least shouldn’t be). Paid the bill ($23) and left most of the pizza uneaten. Despite the charming location, I wouldn’t eat here again.
