This place is always so good to us! The food is incredible for just being in a book in the mountains, they are always so nice and friendly. My favorite is the bean and cheese burrito deep fried! Or for breakfast, the bagel sandwich! You will not leave hungry! One of my favorite go to places. Unfortunately they don't have many vegan options but nevertheless still a great joint!
Has a very laid-back small town comfort vibe to it. Our server is usually this very nice young lady with a solid sense of humor.
Gustavo is the best waiter! He always gets my food to be quickly. Every waiter there is always nice and their food is amazing the best food in the mountain!! Would definitely recommend this place to every one. You must try the burgers and the mexican food ! 5 stars for this place I'll take it. The food was so good it made me move back up the mountain.
I’m a local and never really thought of going here for breakfast until I ran out of eggs and decided to try breakfast at this little diner instead of cooking at home. So far, I’ve been here a few times for breakfast on the weekend and it was delicious every time. We’ve always sat at the bar and we love watching how amazingly fast the cook is! Very impressive! Despite the places being packed, the two of us were in and out within 30 minutes. Staff was very friendly too!
Very quick and efficient group of people. We sat at the counter and wanted a quick bite and was not disappointed. Watched the cooks do their thing and they were so in sync with one another. Will definitely stop by for breakfast every morning we come through now.
A local favorite we've been going to for 24 years. The food is pretty good and attentive staff is friendly and polite. We know the owner and staff casually, and they treat us like family. They're all decent, hardworking, salt of the earth mountain folk. Prices are very reasonable.
I went on a holiday weekend so it was busy but worth every minute. The food was amazingly delicious! Worth the drive just for the food. Staff was great. I'm definitely going back. Known to locals as the best restaurant in town and I agree.
Better than I expected~ Didn’t expect to have a decent diner in this village and had such homey environment and food. We are on our way to big bear in the morning and wanted some coffee and eggs. You have to expect to some time in this small diner (they are packed!) But we had a very good time talking and looking around while waiting for our food. Food is decent and priced decent. The servers are all very friendly.
The first time I came to this coffee shop as a child, was with my mother and sisters. I have told my daughter about it since she was very little and I was finally able to bring her. The food is absolutely delicious, served with a warm smile and we felt as if we were with friends we had known all our life. I'm so glad that this little coffee shop has remained open even though the COVID scare. I will come back again and again with my daughter and she will come one day with her family.
A little cozy coffee shop in the mountains. I love the variety of food that they have to offer, including American and Mexican cuisine. My son loves breakfast. I recommend the reuben sandwich!
The Tahiti Burger is so tall I had trouble eating it.
A must stop in Running Springs. Everything we ordered was beyond our expectation. Delicious food, friendly service and nice atmosphere. Highly recommend this place.
Love going to this place, breakfast any time and the food comes out fast even when they're packed. We've been there a ton of times and if anything is wrong with what we ordered (I seriously think it's only happened once) they're quick to fix the mistake. I feel like it's good quality food for a good price.
This diner won me over fast. Hardworking staff who get you what you need. They can handle a rush on the line and on the floor. They get a lot of tourists too and they will learn your face if you become a regular. The Mexican food is hella good too, same with the usual diner favorites.
Excellent diner! Staff are very friendly, prices are reasonable (for the mountain), coffee is always hot. Pretty much everything on their huge menu is good, I particularly recommend any of the Mexican dishes, breakfast especially. The Chile verde huevos rancheros is delicious. They do get quite busy on weekends.
This Reaturaunt is a breakfast heaven! Loved the scrambled Eggs and Hashbrowns options :) The options are a delight, featuring a range of mouthwatering breakfast choices prepared with exceptional quality. The customer service is outstanding—friendly and attentive staff who go above and beyond to ensure a delightful start to the day. The cozy and friendly environment sets the perfect mood, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed morning. Whether you're a coffee enthusiast or in search of a delicious breakfast, this place delivers on all fronts. Five stars without a doubt for the delectable breakfast offerings, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it a top choice for the perfect morning meal!
Tried a few breakfast places and this one was the best
It's a small diner with really good vibes, friendly staff.
I'm a local, and absolutely love this place and the people within it. Hands down the best biscuits and gravy on the mountain!! I've had many items on the menu, and have yet to be disappointed. Steaks are always a home run. The various rotating soups are fantastic, especially on a cold snowy day. Super fast service as well. On a typical day, we're in and out within 30-40 mins.
The food is delicious! Warm friendly staff. Conveniently located in running springs. You can eat and shop at local merchants in town
Good food, service and atmosphere. Classic diner feeling.
Classic road-side dinner. Breakfast burrito was awesome. Strong coffee. Server was very attentive. Will stop by again next time we come through Running Springs.
Always 5 stars for super friendly service, amazing staff! GREAT food! They are very accommodating! Plenty of options! Get the hot cocoa to go! And the forest Berry pie is the best! Mexican food here is so good! Giant burgers are the best on the mountain! We r repeat customers, and we will be back again and again!
This is a proper, old school style diner with a counter and booths. The food is consistently good, and the wait staff are wonderful - attentive, efficient and super friendly. Without a doubt the best diner on the mountain.
Loved it! They were so nice and made sure my coffee was full, and made sure our food came out fast!
I am a 37, year mountain resident, and I have been eating there 😋 since I moved to the mountain. So yes, I am well known and easy to serve me. That is why I can put 5 stars 🌟 on my services. Welcome, please wait to be seated. Thank you for reading my post.
Some of the best diner food I’ve ever had, really. Great stuff. Biscuits and gravy are awesome. Only problem is it’s a bit…less than stellar on the cleanliness factor. But, I guess that’s part of the diner charm. Will definitely be back!
We were just looking for a bathroom when we came in here, but ended up having the best breakfast of the whole trip. Food was delicious, hot, and fast. Finally, a chef that actually knows how to cook crispy hash browns! Want to come back for the blueberry pancakes, they looked phenomenal.
I've been coming here for almost 20 years. Love that they are gamily owned. Best breakfast around. Hope it never changes.
Every time I go to Running Springs, it is must stop. I have never left disappointed. The tortilla soup was delicious. Coffee always good!
The food was delicious and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. We ordered the French Toast Combo, Country Fried Steak and Eggs, and a kids plate and it came out very quickly. If you’re looking for a good breakfast spot on the mountain, this place really is a gem.
What a great find! This is an old school-style diner with a sit-at counter as well as about 8 tables. We were greeted right away and although it was super busy, we were seated pretty quickly. The menu is extensive and the waiter was friendly. The hostess also helped by bringing drinks quickly. My blueberry pancakes were super packed with blueberries and delicious. The blueberry syrup is to die for. If you're looking for no frills with delicious food and great service, this is the place.
My daughter and I had the eggs, bacon with hash browns and they were delicious we also shared the French toast Yumm really recommend this place
Im a local, and a regular customer. When you walk in there is a sign that says 'wait to be seated' however on slower times you can seat yourself wherever you like. The windows offer a great view of the town good for conversation starters. Great service most days, food never dissapoints me and they do their best to satisfy the customers!! Options are vast but well made, a LARGE portion of the menu is made from scratch with an excpetion of a few things. They have the choice of senior menus, specialty menus , and a luch menu. Drink portions are a good size. Some food portions are a bit large but well worth it. You can watch alot of food being cooked by the chefs on the grill thats right behind the counter. Love this place , its good for family meals, lone meals and a good atmosphere. PLEASE STOP BY AND TRY IT OUT!
Breakfast was great. We sat at the counter because no tables were available. We ate eggs, sausage, and pancakes. Enjoyed the meal!
This was a nice little diner in Running Springs. It has all the quintessential diner things from the old signs and memorabilia on the wall to the classic breakfast dishes (a nice break from all the trendy try-hards in SD). It is busy (on the weekends) but the staff were nice and the atmosphere is welcoming. Not much room if you are waiting, but the turnaround on the tables is pretty quick and efficient. They do have a lot of Mexican dishes too on top of the traditional ones. It makes for lots of great options to choose from! I got an omelette which was delicious but I would not get the side of biscuits and gravy if I am in the area again. Hash browns were great and they ask how crispy you want them.
Such a sweet little place. Great food, great service, friendly customers. The biscuits and gravy were some of the best I’ve had.
Great stop on the way to/from Big Bear Lake. Huge menu selection, great staff and wonderful fresh food !!
I recommend their mexican dishes. Best on the mountain. Also, great breakfast.
Great place for breakfast and breakfast burrito 🌯 10/10. I started coming to this place for breakfast on our way snowboarding since the breakfasts at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are not nearly as fresh and good as they used to be. At Old Country Coffee Shop i get the veggie egg and cheese burrito but ask for country fried potatoes and jalapeño inside. Its big, satisfying, amazing flavor. Sat at the counter is fun.. But nowni get it to go. By the time im at the resort i can eat it there. Quality 10/10. Service friendliness 10/10. Flavors 10/10. Atmosphere 10/10 portion size 10/10. Price 10/10 Highly recommended. I always stop by now before snowboarding. I think its Mary who works behind the counter who has worked for for a long time very nice, welcome and helpful. Remember drive slower, carry and know how to use tire chains.
Really liked this little diner. Went for breakfast, the line cook was super impressive at putting out food to order. Food was good, friendly server, liked the vibe of the place. Went away happy with full tummies and great overall experience.
Nice place and cool vibe, menu has everything possible on it and cooked in front of you. Would love to try the breakfast options there! No alcohol served so get the hot cider instead
Diana was lovely and incredibly helpful when we pulled over to deal with some car-sickness. The employees are wonderful and very welcoming, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough <3
Great food! Great service! Love it! Coming back for sure!
Great food. Wonderful staff. Friendly environment. I suggest eating here
One of my favorite breakfast options in the Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear area. I live in Los Angeles, so it’s great to find a retro, SoCal diner up in the mountains that reminds me of back home. The food portions here are very generous, and the pricing is extremely fair. Just like any diner the menu is very large and has a lot of great options on it. Service was very fast and friendly, and they are true champions with staying on top of the drink refills. There is a large free parking lot right in front so parking is very easy and close. Inside is pretty small, they have about six booths and twice as many counter seats so if it is busy, you may have to wait a little bit, but it will be worth it. For this visit, I chose the Chili Cheese Omelette and really liked it. I wish it would’ve had less beans and more meat but overall I can’t complain because I finished the entire thing. They also do four eggs for their omelettes so it is a bit larger than you will usually get. As mentioned the coffee is great and they will continue the refills the second you need it. It’s located in sleepy Running Springs, which is in between Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear. It’s less than a 10 minute drive from both locations so it is a really great option for breakfast when visiting. We will be back next time we are visiting the mountains.
Have you ever heard of or been to one of those special places? One of those places where you have one of the best meals ever, even though you just found that place on the road while driving after a long trip? This is one of those places. A tiny, in-the-middle-of-nowhere shop with some of the best food ever. The staff is very kind and attentive to our orders. The food was delicious and something to remember. This visit was something I’ll never forget. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
Incredible I’m so glad we stopped here for breakfast :) the staff are so lovely and welcoming. Thank you for the amazing food, fast service and great conversation!!
The BEST place to eat in Running Springs. No fuss. No muss. GOOD food!!! Decent portions. Fair prices. If you make it through the well worn cracked-up & pot hole ridden asphalt parking lot with out breaking an ankle you're doing good.
I have been here multiple times in the past few months & it is always a hit! I've tried a few different things on the menu, waffles, corned beef hash, steak ranchero, steak and eggs, and ham steak. EVERYTHING is a hit!! And the coffee is never out! They're always filling your cup!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND for breakfast lunch and dinner!!
We stopped at this place every time we come to big Bear and it is the best decision ever they have never disappointed. They are absolutely amazing in every regard. And we love that it’s family owned
Classic coffee shop. I have been coming here for several years fairly regularly. The staff is incredible as is the service. Coffee is refilled before you even come close to finishing the mug without ever having to ask for more. The syrup is hot; they keep it on top of the toaster!
Was here once before for the shredded beef tacos, which were off the hook. Took my sons here for a father sons breakfast this morning and we had a great experience. My steak and eggs were perfect. My son really loved his bacon and eggs with fries. Our youngest just ate off of our plates and drink water. The Diet Coke I had was on point. Prices are great. Definitely coming back.
I lived up their when I was a kid 1989- 1993 and my grandparents would take me to eat here all the time. So many good memories. We would always get the same waitress and she would have the cook make me special dinosaur shaped pancakes. And allways wanted to take me home. Apparently I was a cute kid back when I was 5. So cool to see that the restaurant is still open.
BEST COUNTRY FRIED STEAK!! Place has some hard parking but it's worth it. Service was fast and amazing. Ordered a country fried steak with a side of biscuits and gravy. Biscuits and gravy was absolutely delicious, light, and fluffy. Country fried steak was best I ever had, it was nice and crispy yet melted in your mouth. Amazing prices too.
After spending a night in Big Bear, we made our way downhill and stumbled upon a charming local American breakfast spot. The bar table, adorned with various decorations, added a cozy touch to the atmosphere. I ordered their 4-egg omelette with avocado, tomato, and mushroom. While the omelette itself was just okay, the sides truly stood out! We decided to upgrade the toast to a half-size biscuit and gravy for just $1.25—and it was the perfect pairing! Before heading out, we grabbed a large hot chocolate to-go. It was rich and delicious, and another customer even complimented it, calling it the best hot chocolate in town. Definitely a must-try!
After eating here and several other places recently, I may need to consider lowering some. I ordered a lot as I knew I would likely not eat until the next day. Sasha recommended a half order of biscuits and gravy. Wow. They were delicious. Everything was cooked as I wanted. Peach pie for dessert was also delicious.
We had #28 Steak Rancheros (under Mexican Combinations) and Huevos Rancheros (under Mexican Breakfast). Steak was tender and the eggs were perfectly cooked. Seasoning on both plates was perfect. The restaurant and restroom were clean. The service was efficient and friendly. Would definitely go back and try something else. They have a large menu. Parking is limited but worth it for their food.
This place is a must stop place before arriving to Big Bear. Every visit I’ve had here has been warm and welcoming. Service is genuinely nice and the quality of the food is great. I’m heavy on breakfast plates. I will warn however that my in law tried their pozole, and coming from Mexican culture, it’s alright. But all their other plates, fire. This gem has a spot in my heart. Keep it up cooks and servers
I eat there at least once a month after I do a hike with my friend. We've been doing this for 3+ years. She lives in Running Springs and we go for a hike every week, weather permitting. I live about 16 miles away in Highland and enjoy whenever we go there
We had breakfast here, and we really enjoyed it. The decor is really old-time diner, but the food was well prepared, tasted very good, and arrived quickly. The menu was divided into traditional American and Mexican choices. Our breakfast was from the Mexican selections, and the food was authentic and good. We will eat here for sure the next time we're back!
Small cafe, but good food, great atmosphere
My Wife and I went there twice. For breakfast and lunch. We enjoyed it!
Fun little diner. Family of five all loved our breakfasts and lunches -- I had an eggshell in a bit of my eggs, but I didn't send it back because the food was so yummy! Fairly quick, despite being very busy.
Service is good. People are nice. Food is above average. We go for breakfast. Specials are good.
This spot was one of the only restaurants open during a power outage that lasted several hours. Food and service were great, however a little bit pricey for our budget. We paid $62 for breakfast for 2 people.
A quaint small restaurant with only one "run-ragged" waiter. Wished I took pictures, they give you plentiful portions, but breakfast dishes were so-so. We ordered "take out", and the biscuits and gravy was not as "yummy" as reviews stated. They do give you ALOT of gravy. The avocado "benny" was ok, but the poached egg was "I don't know what it was" egg. It just sat on top like a melted ball. I barely tasted the yoke. Was there one? Hashed browns were kind of cooked like melted potatoes. Not quite hash browns, not mashed potatoes. Just not flavorful. No need to go on. I gave it a high 4-star rating because the "only" waiter was working his butt off.
Cute and quaint Mexican-American food diner. I got the Mexican scramble w half beans half breakfast potatoes. Beans could’ve used a little more salt or flavor but were still good w the rest of my food. No outdoor dining but there was a table outside for ppl to eat at if they order to-go (as in, no waiter service if you’re seated outside)
Waitress was attentive, kind and informative. Food was a little heavy with grease, plating could be improved. The amount of menu items is horrendous. There is no need for 200 menu items at a small place like this. Cut your menu by 70% and lower the prices by at least a dollar for ea item and trust you will have a hot spot in RS! Indoors could use some cleaning. Even the salt and pepper shakers seem unclean on the top, as well as the napkin dispensers, weekly cleaning and soaking would not hurt.
Was good 👍, hot chocolate and coffee ☕ , the food was good only, the beef taquitos were not as imagined, but for the rest, only good. Need to mention they have closed 🚻, which is not good. If you are hungry and have enough time for the waiting lines, this is the place. Not in my list to return, unless no other option 🤷♂️
What breakfast costs $60.00???? Sorry not worth the money Save your dineros and go somewhere else You won’t be left with a bad taste in your mouth
Very rude staff, we couldn’t fit comfortably in a booth and asked to be moved and they refused to move us. We had a group of 7 siting in a tight booth. My boys are over 6 feet. That’s ridiculous. My parents love this place because the food is delicious. But the staff is completely rude.
The male waiter there was on something, or at least not sober. Hard to understand and he kept forgetting our order. Will not waste my time, or money on a drunk waiter. Please do better.
Called in a pick up order just after 7pm, paid, tipped and received my order by 7:28pm Opened my order at home to find 4 taquitos when I paid for 5 and didn't come with guacamole as specified on the menu. Some $8.29 for out of the box freezer taquitos. Not recommended. Additionally the Country Benedict, that I always get had gravy with gaint lumps of flour or gravy mix throughout. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what the grit in gravy is. I also asked for crispy hash browns and received the generic single side browned hash brown. I called back to explain the situation politely as I'm a veteran to the Hospitality Industry and a little bit of kindness goes a long way. The server asked the cook what he did and he straight up lied about his food preparation as I heard on the other side of the phone, claiming he heated 5 Taquitoz and the chunks are bacon. I decided to bring the Country Benedict back. OCCS offered to remake the dish. I declined as I lost my trust in the staff to prepare it properly and requested a refund. I noticed the owner was there and I introduced myself. I stated that which ever staff member prepare my meal it was less than satisfactory and I enjoy frequenting OCCS. He then replied, we've served it all day and you're the only one to complain. I exclaimed, you should try it then and I'm only here to tell you the truth. Now here's the truth, when the owner is there the food absolutely SUCKS!!!! Don't order breakfast for Dinner. If you get to-go be sure to check you order before you leave because you can't trust anyone these days. Not even the locals at the local Cafe.
