We came here to celebrate a special date night. Our entire experience was wonderful start to finish. The truffle butter rolls and oysters Rockefeller were delicious apps. The star of the show was the Parisian gnocchi that was so savory with subtle apple flavor. The NY strip was cooked perfectly and oh so very tender. We finished the meal with the apple galette which had a great balance of sweet and saltiness with the caramel sauce. Our server Erin was so friendly and knowledgeable and when she saw we couldn’t decide on dessert that she brought a slice of cheesecake with our selection on the house. The cozy atmosphere and attentive staff made our night special. We got reservation a week in advance just so you know!

Had the most amazing dinner here last night. The menu, initially, looked limited but, our waitperson (Erin) explained that there were some specials AND some of the appetizers were available as a full-sized entree. That changed everything for me. My spouse had the pan-fried pollock, and reported it delicious. The green salad appetizer was enough to share, and my shrimp cocktail was perfect. The martini I ordered was large enough to shave in. The bolognese as an entree was yummy. Relaxed atmosphere, personable staff & management. We’ll return at a time we can see the ocean view!

Quaint little restaurant with beautiful and flavorful dishes. Awesome bar/wait staff that are approachable and insightful. Really impressed with the white fish pate, but enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you!

Staying in Rye with family. The Carriage House was within walking distance. Tried to get reservations on Tuesday, the place was filled up on open table really fast. So we made reservations for Wednesday. Such a great meal! Dan was our server and was knowledgeable and a pleasure. The food was outstanding! Soup to nuts one of the favorite new places we’ve tried this year. An ocean gem! We started with delicious oysters and the mushroom toast, (which could be one of the tastiest bites I have experienced ever)! I had the halibut dish, it was summer on a plate with the sweet corn and grilled peaches! My husband had the speck wrapped monkfish, it was beautiful! Highly recommend!

Absolutely a must "go to" if you are in the area! Outstanding, delicious food and drinks! From appetizers to entrees to dessert! Everything is perfect!

Stayed at the Victoria Inn and told the owner I was headed out to a different restaurant. He stopped me and told me I had to go to the Carriage House. So glad I took his recommendation. It was clear it was an exclusive venue with mainly well to do regulars and I’m glad I waited for the bar seating. Drinks and food were absolutely top notch. I’d love to come back with my family if we visit again!

Carriage House shattered all of my expectations. The meal was one of the best I've had in recent years. During the winter, the building gives off such a cozy, warm feeling. We were sat near the window, but the baseboard heaters kept me nice and toasty. The service is unmatched! Our server kept our drinks, appetizers, and entrees spaced out so we could enjoy ourselves. Their cocktail menu is innovative. The 1989 is one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. Our server gave me a list of ingredients so I could replicate it at home. We shared the Fish Pate' and blistered Shishito Peppers. The Fish Pate' was loaded with creamy white fish and stacked with mustard seeds. The flavors blended well. For dinner, we ordered the Pan-Seared Cod and Grilled Swordfish. They were a hit, and we nibbled off of each other plates! Menu prices are a bit expensive, but the quality matches the price. We finished with the Oatmeal Cream Pie, which sealed the deal that we will return when it's more lively in the summer.

We’ve been told that it was the place to go in the area and I’d have to agree! The cocktail list was expensive and delicious. The service was quick but never rushed. The staff seemed very o work well together. The staff were so helpful in letting me know what was gluten free and knowledgeable about cross contamination which is so refreshing. And expensive meal but well worth it.

A really great meal start to finish: Short rib stuffed fried olives Old fashioned with Bulleit Rye was done perfectly, a really great wed wine blend, espresso martini Blue fin tart tare Parker house rolls with black truffle butter Lobster gnocchi with shaved black truffle Hanger steak Peanut butter pie with meringue Everything was out of this world

What a great time we had at the Carriage House Restaurant! We had a table by the window facing the ocean view, great service and food. Gnocchi with Lobster was flavorful, with pillows of Gnocchi and a reasonable portion of Lobster. My friend had the Flounder wrapped in pastry which was also delicious. The drinks were refreshing and well crafted. Our waitress was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly.

We celebrated my birthday with dinner at the Carriage House. It was an incredible experience! We ordered from their special French black truffle and pasta menu for an app, along with foie gras, followed by a mixed green salad that appeared so simple yet had wonderful blend of fennel, cilantro, dill, chives and a light citrus dressing. Entrees were the best I’ve had in a long time - my husband had the lamb chops and I had the duck breast - perfectly cooked and paired with such savory accompaniments. We finished off with the miso blondie for dessert w/cappuccinos. One of the best parts of our experience was our server Seija! She was so knowledgeable and her recommendations were spot on! Her timing was also perfect - checked on us just enough. She shared with us, the exec chefs are from the CIA, and they have their own farm up the road. We highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!

This place is the most relaxing place to eat! The staff greeted us with a smile and was so happy and nice! Our waitress Heather was an absolute Gem! Checked in on us often and provided extraordinary service! I had the cape cod scallops and the specialty cocktail New Year Same Me which I found out was inspired but the chefs trip to Thailand and everything we tasted down to the presentation was STELLAR! The oysters Rockefeller for our app was just so divine and well put together! They also accommodate dietary restrictions which is posted in their menu! We will be back! We love it there!

Great place, great food, great ambient, great staff. Love this place. The restaurant is located in a lovely spot: a surf beach in Rye, NH. The servers were all so welcoming and kind. The cooking staff and the chef prepared to us special sharing options like charcuterie. We got some welcoming fine wine glasses. A whole complete experience.

Great pork schnitzel and hanger steak. Great Margherita. Great service. Sorry to keep using great...but it was. It is a nice trip up the coast to this Rye NH restuarant. Drive along the coast, watch the surfers and view the ocean front mansions, then stop at the Carriage House for dinner. 40 min from Andover.

Most delicious and beautifully presented food I've ever had. The squash salad had textures and flavors to die for! ♥️ Wonderful staff make you feel very welcome and are superb with their service; thank you Jocelyn. Would be a pleasure to return one day.

This very rustic elegant restaurant. The dark post and beam style ambiance matches the upscale food and service wonderfully. The service was friendly and professional. Oh and did I mention the have an oyster menu? 5 different kinds. The food was great. There drink menu is fun. My drink I chose was no problemo

Want to enjoy a picturesque New England dining experience where both the food and service is worth every penny? If you answered yes, this is the place to go. I enjoyed every minute spent at the Carriage.

Outdoor ambiance is great. Git the best seat in the house. Food and service are good. On-site limited parking but there's a beach parking close by.

Had a fantastic restaurant week experience at the Carriage House on Sunday! Our server Kristen was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. We sat at a cozy table in front of the wood fireplace and enjoyed some delicious and fancy food and drinks.

What a meal! My husband and I visited the carriage House on a kid-free evening and did not hold back. The cocktail menu was unique and delicious (we tried several). All of the food we ordered (a lot) was wonderful - fresh and well-prepared. The service was exceptional. One of the owners (RJ!) was a childhood friend of my husband and he made us feel so special. Highly recommend the Carriage House and can't wait to visit again.

We celebrated a wonderful birthday dinner here. Reservations are recommended. We got here just before they opened and sat at the bar. Picturesque view of the ocean. Bartender was attentive and talented. We shared the swordfish and tuna dishes which were prepared with detail and very delicious. The desserts are unique and wonderful. We shall return.

The food, drinks, and service are great! The atmosphere was fun! There were large parties as well as couples enjoying their time. I had flank steak and loved it. I would recommend Carriage House.

Would recommend a reservation, and be aware theres semi limited parking but otherwise a wonderful selection of wines and food, delightful drink menu, staff was friendly and helpful and the place was very polished with a New Englandy village charm. Date night or double date night, conversation over excellent food, or a special celebration for someone close this place is wonderful, food is tasting menu level good

We went here on Saturday for our anniversary, and it was delicious. We had the oysters Rockefeller and Parker house rolls, then I had the lamb entree on special, he had the skate. Finally we had the miso blondie to share and I had the grasshopper "skosh" to finish. The oysters has a nice pepper flavor for a touch of heat which was enjoyable and I thought about it the entire meal, I enjoyed the surprise. The lamb was incredible and the skate was a more unique menu item that felt fresh and light. Do not skip dessert here! Everything was delicious, the wait staff was lovely. We are excited to come back for another meal. This review was made in connection with a Toast promotion.

Our food was delicious! The creations were unique, and even though the portions were on the smaller side, the flavor and the textures easily made up for it. Definitely try the truffles! They were super fragrant!

The lobster gnocchi was delicious, the hanger steak cooked to perfection - but the short rib was the star of the table. My girlfriend stated, "This is far and away, the best short rib of my life"

This dinner was the best meal I've had in awhile going out to eat. I got the swordfish which I don't know what they put on that damn thing BUT GODDANGIT it was FANTASTIC! we got 4 appetizers, and each one hit perfectly. I will be recommending to every foodie I know. It's a little dark and you might need a flashlight to read the menu but that's the only off putting thing. And that's not even off-putting because no matter what you order on the menu, regardless, will be delish. So forget reading the menu. Good date spot

This was our first visit to the Carriage House. We rated it as one of the top 5 dinners we have ever had. The fish and scallops were cooked to perfection and the sides were just as delicious. Make sure to reserve a table and try one of their excellent specialty cocktails.

I treated some friends to a romantic dinner and because I wanted them to completely enjoy themselves, I chauffeured. I headed upstairs to the bar and enjoyed a salad and mushroom toast. Both were fantastic. But better yet, they knew that I wanted to pay for my friends and they all seemed to know this because when I went to pay for my bar bill, they asked if I wanted to take care of my friends bill at the same time. It was a busy Saturday night and they still all managed to know that my friends downstairs and I were connected. Food and service were both fantastic!

I had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time and finally made a reservation a few weeks ago—and I was so impressed that I brought my parents back to celebrate their birthdays. From the cozy atmosphere to the genuinely friendly staff, the restaurant feels warm and inviting from the moment you walk in. We ordered several appetizers and entrées, and everything was excellent. Special shoutout to the white fish pâté, it was outstanding. We also couldn’t help but notice a giant pile of fries passing by our table, so of course we had to order them, and they absolutely did not disappoint (we ate every last one). On our first visit, the food took a little longer to come out, which we honestly didn’t even notice because we were enjoying our conversation. The staff was incredibly attentive, the waitress came over to apologize, and the owner personally stopped by twice and even treated us to complimentary espressos. That level of care really stood out. Both times we visited, the owner was actively working and seating guests, which is refreshing to see and speaks volumes about how much he cares about the restaurant and the experience he provides. I’ll be spending a lot of time in the Seacoast next year, and this restaurant will absolutely be one of my regular spots. Highly recommend.

The Carriage House has been a longtime favorite restaurant of my family after years spent going to Rye. When we decided to get married in nearby New Castle, the rehearsal dinner location was a no-brainer: it had to be Carriage House. I have eaten probably almost everything on the menu there and never had a bad meal (have only had great meals, in fact). I have probably gotten to meet every server, and have always been warmly welcomed. Our rehearsal dinner was no different. We had the pleasure of working with RJ to set our menu and plan for the day, which was a seamless experience. Good food and fun was had by all and it was truly the perfect way to kick off our wedding weekend. I look forward to eating there again next summer when we're back in Rye, now as a married couple!

We really enjoy the Carriage House. The menu often changes and always features fresh seasonal produce and the dishes are clearly prepared with creativity, precision, and attention to all the little details. The service is efficient and attentive and the ambiance is elevated but still relaxing. Dining at the Carriage House is an experience we would recommend to anyone visiting the area if they have time. Great date night place! Parking is a little limited but it's beautiful and the ocean so get there a little early and worst case scenario you have to park down the road and enjoy a short walk taking in the sea air. We almost never have room for dessert but this time we did and they were fantastic as well, the peach pie made me wish I could get one to go to enjoy with my morning coffee. (Still regretting not doing it to be honest...)

Decided to try the Carriage House to celebrate an engagement and we’re so glad we did! Friendly, personable service and delicious, fresh food. The cocktails were great as well! The octopus and rolls in particular stood out to us among the many appetizers.

This was a wonderful evening in an upscale coastal country vibe restaurant with truly exceptional food and service! Our server, Amber, was attentive and made great recommendations with a very warm and friendly demeanor. We started our meal with wonderfully prepared cocktails and appetizers of oysters, mushroom toast, and pasta with truffles - all AMAZING! We also had the fried olives which we found unexceptional. Dinner was top notch!!!! Our entrees included, Grilled Swordfish, Halibut and Sea Scallops - all incredibly tasty and beautifully prepared and served! The price seemed reasonable for this caliber of food. We will most definitely return! This is a special spot!

We visited the carriage house for dinner. We had oysters for our appetizer. They were fresh and delicious. I had the hangar steak for dinner, ordered medium rare. The steak was more on the rare side. My wife ordered flounder and it came overcooked. The wait staff took it back to the kitchen and they came to our table to apologize. They brought her a fresh plate of flounder which she said was to die for. For dessert we had a chocolate mousse and it was really really good!

Quaint New England restaurant. This time the food was okay. Two years ago it was phenomenal when they braised their own short ribs. The menu is much simpler now and not as good as it used to be. The service was very good.

The Lobster Gnocchi is absolutely amazing. I mean its been a while since i put gnocchi in my mouth and said “hot damn, this is some flipping good gnocchi “. And that happened. Mind the market price, because at 72 dollars it may make you think “should i?” But the answer is still a yes you should, this one time. I do have to knock a star off because of the server. They were very charming and on top of our table. However they forgot our apps, so they came after the mains and only after i reminded the server. Not really a big deal, except im paying the equivalent of a monthly car payment for a meal for two people so i expect that not to happen. The atmosphere is intimate but and dark. I did not notice anything overly charming and was very aware of the other people as they did their job. Nothing bad but nothing special.

Went with a group of 5 for a nice dinner, and the menu was creative and solid, with good restaurant week offerings for $52 a person. Entrees generally $30 or so. Drinks were good, but a little uneven in terms of fill between martinis, and the food was very salty - every dish drew comments about the heavy salt. Lots of toppings, sauces and well, things, on top of the swordfish, the skirt steak and the other dishes too - just a lot of creativity that was a bit over the top, and almost cluttered the dishes. Anyway, a nice night out at $100+ pp.

Excellent fresh seafood and good local beer and wine menu. Mushroom toasts are not be missed either

The dining experience was, unfortunately, underwhelming. From the start, the rundown exterior and unkempt entryway set a poor first impression. The lack of reservations forced us to sit at the bar—accessed via a steep staircase. The bar itself was dimly lit, and the wooden seats were incredibly uncomfortable, making it difficult to enjoy the meal. On a positive note, the bartender delivered impeccable service, a highlight of the evening. However, the food left much to be desired. My cocktail shrimp had a strange chemical taste, while his salad was entirely forgettable. The ravioli proved to be the only saving grace, as it was well-prepared. My white fish pâté, on the other hand, was disappointing—a deep-fried hash brown brick topped with overly salty pâté and unremarkable ? radish slices as garnish. The drinks fared better, with a good pilsner beer and sauvignon blanc providing some solace amidst the otherwise lackluster fare. However, even the tap water failed to impress, tasting unpleasantly of chlorine and other additives. At $124 for the meal, I cannot recommend returning. The impeccable service and decent beverages were overshadowed by an overall lack of quality in both food and atmosphere.

Salt fat acid sweet umami. Don’t put crème fresch with gnocchi finished in butter & duck confit. Balance it with citrus or vinegar. Also, the halibut sauce was not tight & was watery. Veg on the halibut dish was trimmed expertly. Cheers to the bartender. Grasshopper and brandy alexander were classical done- clean and sharpen the microplane for finer nutmeg on the brandy drink.

I’ve patronized the Carriage House for years and have always been one of my favorite restaurant! Long story short…I will never return. The new owners have turned, what was the Number one restaurant, into a watering hole! I will say that the waitstaff was very good, but used fancy French names for defining the flavor and other attributes of each dish! Additionally, for the price, there was very, very little substance and lots of decorative “stuff”. My meal of Broiled Swordfish, was just that! A 3 X3 X3 inch piece of tuna. Nothing else but decorative stuff that I couldn’t eat! Unbelievably, the restaurant did not offer a selection of bread or rolls. Come on….for the price, put some substance in your establishment. They did have something one may call a salad…but the salad content that I can recall, wasn’t really something I would venture to eat. No other selection of salad or dressing was available. Bottom line, a wonderful restaurant has died!😔

Overprices tasteless menu. Yes it’s a nice location but food was more than disappointing. $68 lamb chop was tough and hard to chew. The only fish on the menu was pollock or hake. I had the $36 tasteless Hake very small portion of nothingness. We had 1 appetizer salad and 2 main course. $268. For 2 people. Service was also inattentive had to ask for water. We will not be back. Reservations were required only time we could get was Saturday 4:45 pm and they had empty tables.

Looked forward to a nice dining experience with family. Had eaten here before. Appetizers appeared relatively quickly. Started getting concerned when entrees hadn’t arrived after more than an hour, especially after seeing a party seated 20 minutes after us receiving their’s. Sought out an explanation as we needed to be in Portland in less than 90 minutes. Floor manager finally arrived and said “there had been a problem with one of the orders and it would be 7 minutes more”. I understand stuff happens; but to have not been offered a proactive explanation and instead had to seek it on my own is unprofessional and unacceptable. What should have been an enjoyable experience instead was a source of disappointment and frustration. Even worse, barely an acknowledgement of shortcomings. Turned out to be a very expensive meal which was anything but enjoyable. And it’s a shame because the meal was very good.
