Opinions de Mikuni Sacramento County
Mikuni never disappoints. Great sushi at a great value with a great vibe. FOOD: Well presented, fresh and very tasty! The brussel sprout appetizer was quite spicy and salty, skip if you don't like spicy (I do). I usually don't order salmon because I have had fishy salmon elsewhere. Here it was super fresh and tasted phenominal. SERVICE: Friendly, prompt service with a smile. Attentive server but not overly so. ATMOSPHERE: Busy but not packed. Temperature was perfect, atmosphere lively but not overly loud. Fun atmosphere! CONCLUSION: Still my favorite place to get sushi in Sac.
Food was amazing and fresh, service was attentive. No reservations available so this was the second time we attempted. Many delicious items like the black and white run out before dinner on the weekends. Worth coming in for lunch for the top notch items that won’t make it through the evening. So many other things I can’t wait to try, very pleased..
The food at this place is wonderful!!! Pleasant atmosphere and good quality service. The rice and the fish are very fresh and tender. I recommend it and will definitely come back again!!
★★★★★ Mikuni is hands down one of the best spots for sushi and Japanese cuisine in Sacramento. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was vibrant, energetic, and welcoming. It’s a fun yet polished setting that works perfectly for both casual dinners and special nights out. The service was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and fast without ever feeling rushed. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations. The sushi was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. Every roll was packed with flavor and creativity, and the quality of the fish truly stood out. The hot dishes and appetizers were just as impressive, and the cocktails complemented the meal perfectly.
As someone who reviews restaurants, I look for detail, and this place shines. The staff knew the menu inside and out, recommending seasonal specials I wouldn’t have chosen on my own. The omakase experience was stunning - each sushi piece delicate and full of depth. The setting mixed sleek modern design with traditional Japanese art, giving it style and soul.
Best sushi in town. A bit pricey but you defintely get what you pay for, quality! You have to try their tuna sliders and Japanese mafia roll. Everything looks and tastes fresh. Great customer service as well.
The restaurant is clean and up to date. everything came out in a timely manner. the food was delicious. we had the carmen roll and teriyaki salmon. definitely would reorder them. not shown are tofu nuggets which exceeded our expectations of flavor. highly recommend that to try with others.
I've always wanted to try sea urchin. My Polynesian heart yearns for it. I made a promise with my dad as a young child to try it with him. He passed away, but I still held true. This spot let me experience something truly mundane but very special. I tried sea urchin. It was glorious and better than I ever could have expected. Litterally, the only downside is how busy it was. I can see why, but I'm autistic and it was hard to handle with how loud everyone was there. I've never been to Sacramento before. Maybe that's just how everything is? Idk. We got two plates of fresh sake (salmon) and some yellow tail nigiri. My lover got the mafia roll and, eel nigiri and salmon roe. I got the rainbow roll, uni, and a California roll. My love also ordered edamame and miso soup. I, too, got a miso soup and a california roll for a starter. The food was stupendous. Funny thing, the waitress told us the miso soup was salty that day, but I thought it wasn't salty enough 😆. The salmon was so tiny! Definently not what I'm used to. It wasn't the best salmon I've ever had, but it was still better than most. 8/10 for the salmon. It's still really good. Also, I got this drink, a lychee vodka thing. It says bute the button if you dare, and I dared and had a mild allergic reaction to it. I suppose I'd never have known I couldn't have that thing if I hadn't tried it? It didn't make my mouth go numb. It was sour and on fire :] So, yay. The rolls were delicious, and the uni was creamy and wonderful. The Ikura / Salmon roe was delightful, too.
I popped in for a quick lunch and, as always, sushi was calling my name. The experience began with a warm greeting that set a positive tone for the meal. We started with gyoza, perfectly crispy on the outside and delightfully tender inside—an excellent appetizer. The flaming mushrooms added a fun twist, delivering a rich crab stuffed flavor with just the right amount of heat. For the main event, the Jerry and Carmen Roll did not disappoint. Fresh ingredients and a harmonious blend of flavors made each bite a delight. Overall, the customer service was outstanding, and the food was amazing. This spot is perfect for a satisfying, quick meal. Highly recommend!
Fresh sushi, great service and atmosphere. We sat by the bar and their chef gave us complementary edamame side! He was very nice! We tried several nigiris, hand rolls and special rolls, and all was great! Their hot green tea was very good, too. I think this is one of the best sushi restaurants in the downtown and it is worth checking out. I really liked their salmon and yellowtail nigiri and they have several special hand rolls, too.
Our server Nicole provided absolutely amazing service. Everything she recommended was fantastic, and she was exceptionally pleasant to interact with. She regularly checked on our table to see how we were doing. The food itself was fantastic. We had several sushi rolls and a couple of appetizers. The sushi rolls were delicious, and the calamari was one of the best I've had. I would definitely go back again for the service and/or the food.
Ate here with some friends for the first time and I really liked it! The beef curry was really good and perfectly cooked. Also got to try some sushi as well and it was very well made. Our server was David and he did an excellent job of accommodating us. The inside of the restaurant is modern and has cool vibes. Would definitely come back again !

I will return to Mikuni, and hopefully with a guest. The food was beautifully presented and the wait staff was attentive. I sat at the sushi bar as I was alone, and the chef was kind and attentive. The reason for the four stars was my disappointment that they seemed to be anxious to get me out of there once I had placed my last sushi plate order. My check actually was delivered before I had begun to eat the last dish. I understand the interest in turning tables/seats, but I had spent $100 for a special meal, and to ignore the convention of delivering the check at the end of the meal felt rude, and also seemed like a house policy as the chef and server both moved quickly to hit me with the bill well before I was finished. I might expect this from a country diner, but not from a business that otherwise aspires to providing a fine experience.
Mikuni Sushi in Sacramento is a top choice for sushi lovers. The restaurant offers a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. Conveniently located in the heart of Sacramento, it's easily accessible with ample parking. The sushi is consistently fresh and expertly prepared. Happy hour features a variety of discounted sushi rolls, appetizers, and drinks, making it a great time to visit. The service is friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Overall, Mikuni Sushi in Sacramento is a must-visit for high-quality Japanese cuisine in a lively setting. The combination of fresh ingredients, diverse menu options, and great service makes it a favorite among sushi enthusiasts.
I’ve been coming to Mikuni since they only had one restaurant and that was many years ago. I’ve been to every restaurant that is now currently open and one in Davis that is now closed or moved. As in my other reviews, consistency and quality of fish is very important to me. And despite growing as they did, they’ve always been on the mark. There is a bonbon dish that has been off the menu for probably six months, and they still make it for me gladly. I had a lunch date with a sweet 9 year old friends daughter. Her choice for food is almost exclusively Mikuni :)
While I was visiting Sacramento I visited two well rated Sushi restaurants. One was this place. While Mikuni excelled in atmosphere I was disappointed in the Sashimi I ordered. The pieces were not only small in size but they were also the thinnest I have ever had at a sushi joint. For the 8-15 dollars for a 2-piece serving it was a rip-off and left me feeling cheated. Putting the Sashimi aside, I did try some Sushi Nigiri which was good as was my Mel Roll. The flavors were good as was the quality of fish. The menu here is enormous. 18 pages. It is a bit much. They also have no less than 3 sushi stations making the goods. Our wait time was reasonable. Parking could be a challenge and the nightly rush starts around 5pm so be prepared. We arrived early and found street parking but that is not to be expected every time. I am not sure I would come again even though I enjoyed the atmosphere and food overall. The place I went the following day was better in some respects but not as good in others. Keep an eye out for that review.
I was actually surprised that we were able to get a table on Saturday night without reservation. We ordered a combo plater and it was pretty good. Fish was fresh, not fishy at all and all cocktails we ordered were amazing. Service was outstanding and atmosphere wasn't bad. I will come back to try other dishes.
Ordered the Spicy Johnny which was excellent and the Japanses Mafia Roll which was a bit fishy. Miso was soup was solid as was the service. There was a wait for a table when I arrived but fortunately was sat immediately at the bar. Very good but lacks the OMG for the price as it's a bit expensive.
Visited Mikuni and had a mixed experience.\nThe VEGI-TEN Roll was the highlight -- fresh, well-balanced, and genuinely tasty. Crispy tempura veggies with good texture and flavor made it worth order…

Sushi is excellent! Service was good. Fun atmosphere. Parking is downtown, so be prepared to pay and/or walk.
Great ambiance \nGreat Food \nGood Drinks \nParking was a bit iffy but I'm willing to look past it \nBartenders had A1 Customer Service. \n\nIf you're in town, stop by if you like sushi.
Ordered a late lunch for takeout to top off my weekend. I ordered the Sushi Illustrated lunch special, which consists of three of Mikuni's specialty rolls. The wait for my food was relatively short…
A little disappointed today. Downtown sac sushi bar had several staff trying hard to produce sushi. All of them appear to be lacking experience and training. Pleasant people, just not aware …
We enjoyed our visit here - the service was good, as was the food & drinks. The sushi options would be even better without adding panko to so many of their rolls, but the ones we tried were tasty.
We passed by this restaurant for a quick lunch while stopping and charging our car in Sacramento, on our way to South Lake Tahoe. From what I recall: Nice and big restaurant. Spacious seating area. Cool air conditioning during hot summer days. The staff were nice and helpful, but it seemed they didn’t talk much. The food was good. Many options for sushi rolls. But, to my disappointment, there was only one option for udon soups. I could only order that as I had to share with my baby. They really didn’t have a kid menu, or one that my baby could have. My sister went with a veggie rolls as she didn’t have much appetite, but most of the other dishes contains seafood. The only choice she had was avocado rolls. My husband chose stir fried seafood noodles. Fresh shrimps. Noodles was seasoning well.
Perfect for a casual date night but still feeling like your in a very nice ambiance. The menu is huge and if your not to up on sushi I suggest looking it up before you go. Everything was very fre…
Eh ok sushi. Rolls are probably better than getting sashimi or nigiri, but since that is what I eat I’ll say some stuff was tasty and fresh, others not so much.

On Saturday around 2:30pm we parked by the meter. We were seated right away. Casual dressing environment. Restroom was clean. There is an upstairs dining area that is accessible by stairs and elevator. There are 2 sushi bar areas, the smaller one seats rather close to the sushi chefs. Our sushi rolls took awhile to come even though they were many sushi chefs and a few tables and people at the sushi bar. The Daikon Hamachi was cut a little too thin for our preference which was not worth $21. Overall I am not a fan of the sushi here, it seems to cater the rolls more towards non-Asian/Japanese taste buds and most rolls are filled with Panko Shrimp.
Came by without a reservation. Put our name down in person but still had to wait awhile. During the wait, we hopped over to Public House to grab some drinks. Ordered sake and sapporos for drinks. For food, we ordered the dinner for two: -edamame freaky: way too spicy and salty. Inedible after you had a few. -sea steak: probably the best dish out of the lot. -fresh roll: not good, scale found :( -spicy tuna hand roll: mushy, a bit discolored, and didn't taste very fresh -cheese cake: ok In general, not a whole lot stood out to me. Seafood didn't seem very fresh. Not sure I'll be back. Street parking.
My son and I arrived for happy hour and checked in at 4:45 PM (happy hour ends at 5). Around 4:50, we were seated at the sushi bar since that was all that was available. Due to the strong smell, …

It’s hard to rate the food when the service and sanitary conditions of the place leave a lot to be desired. 20 minutes to its closing time the waiter came by with a check ready to ask if we were going to make any last order, to which we had to remind that half of our order hadn’t been served by her. She did include them in the check though. So it’s difficult to say anything about the quality and flavour of the food when your dishes are served all jumbled regardless of being a starter or main course. One could suggest that we should have informed her of the missing items. We definitely would have if she had been anywhere in sight. As we were waiting, we became aware that the table is suspiciously sticky all over. And as I started wiping it with a napkin, it turned literally black. I wonder if anyone cares to properly clean and disinfect the tables. Absolutely subpar place. They ruined our birthday celebration. I cannot provide the name of the waiter as the hostess claimed she had no idea who was serving us and what the name of the only girl with long dark hair was - although the security lady immediately understood who I was speaking about. So, it’s evident the staff cover up for each other and promote such sloppy attitude to their responsibilities.
My husband and I have been to Mikuni many times and have noticed that the quality of the food has taken a slow decline. Last night was the last night we will ever go :( We went later than usual and did not realize that there were closing in 45 mins. We got our entrees and I did not like mine, so my husband ate it. Five minutes after closing the staff turned out half of the main dining rooms lights and turned off the music. There were a lot of patrons still eating. It was very odd and I felt like they were trying to kick us all out. After feeling very disrespected, we quickly finished and left. Thank goodness I did like my dish!!! Unfortunately for my husband, he ate it and got sick all night.
