It was busy while I went so you can tell they were understaffed, but the server was great and did what they could with the amount of tables they had. Anytime they came to the table they were polite and on top of the orders. Over all good experience, avoid going during a rush.

Visiting from out of state and I’ve been to several different Black Bear Diner’s. This location was a bit hidden but overall the environment was clean, open, friendly. Our waiter Danny was friendly, greeted us with a warm smile, and gets the job done in a timely manner. The rest of the staff was great too. And last but not least, the food! It was delicious. I highly recommend Chorizo Burrito. Keep up the good job.

Black Bear Dinner has great food and large sized portions. Sharon is the best server around!! She is positive, polite, prompt, patient and friendly. She remembers how you like your orders or preferences and that’s hard to find these times. My family loves the Black Bear Dinner but my family returns over because of employees like Sharon. This location has always been consistently fantastic. It can get a bit busy so early breakfast is usually our thing when going to this location. The sweet cream pancakes are really unique and I’ve not had anything like them. Very delicious. The proportions at black bear are borderline absurd - huge! My wife and I usually share one item and we still have left overs. It is a little pricey but you get your moneys worth. The coffee is on point and always refilled quickly. Definitely coffee goblin approved. Service is good and the restaurant is always clean and well presented.

Man-O-Man who doesn't love the Black Bear Diner! I was early for my meeting with Brace Rocklin and his boy Stoner, the proprietors of the Triple R Ranch up in Citrus Heights, so I pulled off and went to the Black Bear Diner here in Sactown. What a Spectacular breakfast! Everything was perfect, the grits were as smooth as Frank Sinatra, the farm eggs must have been layed that morning...they were perfect! And that bacon....no words can describe the flavor of perfect bacon, other than WOW! Once again the Bear gets 5 stars. ☆☆☆☆☆

Our first time in not only Sacramento but California so we are well lucky to have stumbled upon this gem of a place. We started off with the fresh squeezed orange juice and breakfast, but I'm sure we will be by again later for some of that pie.

We enjoyed excellent service and food from the afternoon team on 5/4/24. Our waitress, Christina, was not only attentive but instantly was befriended by our15 mo old grandson! She gathered the staff for a hearty Happy Birthday song for husbands 70th. Also, took great photos for us!

We decided to go here near the end of the operating hours and we were still blown away by the quality of both the food and customer service. An adult and one kids meal will run you around $20-30, not too shabby considering the food was good and a nice environment to chit chat.

I'm super into mom and pops types of diners for breakfast and Black Bear actually has that feeling even though it's a pretty big chain. Can't complain about the portions as you can see in the photos. I have one qualm though, the hashbrowns have always been hit or miss with me, they are either not quite done or just right. You never know what you'll get that morning. And yes the food ( at least the breakfast ) is pretty good.

The service by Brandon was absolutely awesome! The manager was just as amazing yesterday. They both have a very pleasant attitude and seem to really enjoy their jobs. The food was absolutely delicious! Brandon got them to make me an omelet that isn't necessarily on the menu as an omelet, but it is as a 10 oz New York strip steak and eggs. I am on a restricted diet so I can't have cheese, but they added onions and mushrooms into it for me, I also can't have potatoes so they got me 2 bowls of strawberries for an additional price. Overall it was absolutely delicious and the best service I have had at ANY Black Bear Diner

This legendary diner lives up to it's name. The casual atmosphere and the service are amazing. The potion size is fit for a bear. I never saw a biscuit size that big. The food was served hot and tasted great.

The menu at Black Bear has always been a good backup plan when there’s no time to cook. Unlike many chains, the ingredients here actually have texture. You know what I mean? How casual dining feels “pre-chewed”? Yeah, not here. Breakfast sausage and everything else have a bite to them. Tonight Danny served me taco salad. I got it with seasoned ground beef for that “American taco” flashback 😉. And yet still spicy with those pickled jalapeños.

Wow! This diner is big. My 6-year-old loves the bears, my 70+ year-old mom loves the ambiance, and I love the staff. This location has a banquet room for large parties and events. If you're looking for great service and yummy diner food, check it out. I am dairy-free, and I love how easy it is to customize my order. My favorite entrees are the custom omelettes and scrambles. I add homemade mild sausage or beef gravy to replace dairy. So good.

Talk about a dining surprise. Our family had to drive from San Fran to Reno due to flight issues and stopped here with it being right off the highway. Didn’t expect such a delicious meal!!!! The homemade sausage was some of the best we have ever had and my vegetarian scramble was overall amazing (I would suggest ordering with a decreased amount of onion - pretty sure there was a whole one). Daughters pancakes and the avocado toast was all top notch. We were in a hurry and they were helpful and gave great service too!

Brought my wife for breakfast around 9:30am,we were seated by the window. Ordered Chopped steak and eggs with sauteed mushrooms, red potatoes and orange juice. My wife had the NY steak and eggs. From the moment we walked in, Alfonso greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel right at home. His hospitality was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and professional—he went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. You can tell he genuinely enjoys his work, which made the experience even more enjoyable. As for the food, it was delicious! The entire meal was a delight from start to finish. The decor is nice, a bit kitschy and over the top but in a positive sense. It fits the entire concept really well. The 50s music complemented the decor really nicely. The staff was super friendly. The portions were really big (especially the turkey club with fries, which is just a huge pile of food!). The food was really tasty. Especially loved the milkshake!

The atmosphere of this place is very homey and very log cabin. I am shocked it’s such a popular chain I immediately thought it was more mom and pop. It reminded me of visiting the sequoias. My server Beth was very nice.

The Black Bear Diner was a great place to eat. I went there twice during my stay in Sacramento. I had the chicken fried steak Benedict which was delicious. The second time I had the Grizz, it was so much food but very scrumptious. The staff were great my coffee cup was never empty. The decor was very much what you would expect from a place named the Black Bear Diner. I thought the commercials they had on loop on the TV when you walked in were great. If I am ever back in Sacramento for work this will be my preferred breakfast place.

The food and waiter were great , but I want to give a shout out to the waiter( Alfonzo or Alberto ) that man saved me , I have a problem With swallowing due to a stroke I had . And I always have a drink next to me because I choke . Well with all the excitement of not seeing my coworkers for 9 months . I forgot to wait for my drink to get refilled and started eating . Short story this man from the Natomas restaurant saved my life tonight . I want him recognized for his life saving skills , I was sitting with 3 others and none of them knew what to do :-( he was an angel in disguise, although I was embarrassed because a few others were laughing . My life was saved and I cannot thank him enough for it . I sure hope I got his name Correctly . I think he should get the Recognition he deserves. Thank you so much , you saved a grandma who fights every day for her life to see her grandchildren grow :-) God used you as my Angel.

Great tasting food and drinks, very comfortable and clean environment, but what really stood out this time around was our exceptionally attentive, extremely nice, engaging and kind, wait person, Maggie! She went above and beyond by helping my 81 year old mother feel so comfortable by speaking in Spanish (she speaks English well) to her which made the ordering much easier and quicker! Maggie is a huge asset to BB Diner. I believe she can hold the fort down and deserves a lot more. Btw, I am a frequent Black Bear Diner customer and have visited many different locations in the entire state of California and this location has been the best by far! Everyone should be like Maggie! I wanted to include other staff that made our day like the cashier who was very friendly with a huge smile and also made sure we were sat in a comfortable booth and area! Thank you!

As an ex waitress I can say every time I come here the service is exceptional. When they are busy or even when they are slow. I never have to wait or repeat asking for water or refill. I am always checking how many tables a server has to see what the hold up is if they take forever. I have never even had to count the tables I see them working because I never have to ask for refills. The food always tastes good. The portions are very large, you will get your money’s worth. The restrooms have always been clean. If I have any complaints it would have to be the parking space it a bit tight. You may need to go around back most don’t know there is additional parking. Love the cozy atmosphere and friendliness.

Great tasting food, the staff was friendly but a little uncaring, this restaurant did seem a little out of order from the previous time I had dinner there, the utensils weren’t placed on the table and I had to walk around and ask for them, I did notice most of the staff was wondering around or outside on break which left us waiting a little more than usual for an empty restaurant, other then that it was good.

It was great 👍. They have very large portions for the price. Me and the fiance often have to share a plate. Here's a look at the 2-egg chicken fried steak. And the MONSTER BISCUIT it came with.

The only downside was the long service time as the restaurant was packed. The food portion size was humongous! They have bottomless coffee and iced coffee available which was cool.

The food is consistently fresh and reliable. I consistently order the Joe’s hobo omelette, and the pancakes are simply unparalleled. The waffles are acceptable, while the potatoes are exceptional. The eggs are also delectable to consume. The ambiance is ideal for dining. Each patron has their own private space, and the noise level is appropriate.

Great homestyle, stick to your ribs, comfort food. Waited a little long to be addressed at the hostess stand. Food was also a little slow coming out. I overheard a conversation that sounded like they had my order wrong. Never offered a refill. Place had an off smell when we walked in. She made the experience very good. The food was mostly good, just a little different to what I’m used to but still fresh and came out quickly for the size of our order. Would recommend coming here.

This was my first time to visit this restaurant. The restaurant is conveniently located, decorated very nicely outside and inside, plenty of parking in a quiet location, I was greeted upon entering, seated quickly, my table and the dining room was clean and smelled nice, my order was taken quickly, the food arrived in 10 minutes warm, my server was pleasant and patient, the food tasted quite good, my strawberry shake was reasonable priced and delicious, the restroom was clean and did not smell, but there was no music playing.

Came here super early for morning breakfast flying to Hawaii. The dinner is clean , wide, and very nicely decorated. Foods are great with big portions. Service is a bit slow where waiter hardly swing to serve and refill coffees. Will come again just for the foods.

Themed diner that’s spacious, relaxed and cutely decorated! Food portion is big but taste unfortunately is just ok, a bit bland. However their biscuit is big, fluffy, soft on the inside with a crumbly crust, still hot when served, the best I’ve had (tho I’m usually not a biscuit fan, so I haven’t tried many). Think this chain will do really well in Asia too if one day they consider expand globally.

Door dashed some food. Entree was delicious. Sides weren't and not many choices of sides. Packaged well to be door dashed except the drinks. They could be tampered with. Deserts were delicious

Service is always good, and the food is great. We have been twice now and will come again. prices are a bit high but it's fine.

It's ok when your really hungry. I guess it could be SO much worse. It can take forever sometimes but I still tip good. Their staff is obviously understaffed like everywhere else in the world. Millionaires have to make their money somehow I guess

The bad- potatoes were on the undercooked side. Some of the fruits maybe yesterday's leftovers. And the overall temperature of the tea and pancakes was too low- lukewarm. The butter I smeared on the pancakes didn't melt at all. Oh, the ham on my classic eggs Benedict may have come from one of those meat packets that you find at the deli section of a grocery store. I prefer larger pieces of ham. The good- our server was friendly and attentive. I've eaten here a handful of times. This visit is an anomaly. I hope my next visit is a much better experience. My wife ordered the dry tip french dip, not a typo. I ordered the chicken strip Cobb salad. How can you screw up a salad? By taking 30 minutes to bring it to the table, and minus the chicken. The chicken finally came, cut in tiny pieces of mostly fried breading. Alphonse our waiter tried, he really did. I think the problem at this Black Bear is in the kitchen. There is a sign on the door saying to pardon them while they rebuild their team. I get it, the pandemic screwed things up. Well they've still got work to do.

The food was good, they told me they were out of tea after ordering it. Was told cornbread wasn't good. Table was not kept clean. Diner probably needs to change hours of service because it got really packed 30 min to closing. Overall it was good.

My server Briana was awesome! The food looked amazing but lacked flavor. The mashed potatoes were cold. The apple cobbler was amazing! Highly recommend!

I was eating solo out in Sacramento handling business. So I stopped here for a bite to eat. I hate to bring up race, but I was the only African American in the building and the energy spoke just that. When I walked in the door, a short maybe Hispanic woman stood the counter, looked me up and down, did not great me, asked me how many grabbed a menu told me to follow her. Ok. Seats me at the 1st open booth. Walks off. Now I brought up race for a reason. My waiter older white woman, looked uncomfortable serving me & was acting like she was nervous. She tried to relax but her energy was evident. While I waited on my food, every (non colored)person that walked in the restaurant, was greeted with a energetic welcome in, (even from where I was sitting)we will be with you in a minute. I didn’t receive that welcome. Honestly the lady would have let me stand there if I didn’t speak up. My food was 2 stars. I ordered the prime rib scramble with pancake & green tea.I was asked how did I want my prime rib, I said medium well. It came well done, and my pancake was cold. The butter wouldn’t melt. When I brought the cold pancake to my waiter attention, she looked bothered.She brought me back another one but you can tell she didn’t feel like addressing it.Normally I would just leave & find another place,but I didn’t leave because it was close to the place of my business affairs and I thought I chose a good place to eat & relax before resuming my busy day.Ok. As I’m eating, a manager was having a conversation at the table to my left with the same employee that initially sat me at my table. Maybe that’s why she looked so mad at the greeting booth.They were going back and forth about fair treatment & what the manager wanted the employee to do about a situation that’s seems to be ongoing. That was completely inappropriate to talk about or reprimand her on the floor. It disturbed my eating & I looked over to them & the manager noticed,then decided to take the situation to her office. The bathroom was clean & the server who checked me out appeared to feel the uneasiness and tried to make small talk while checking me out. It was odd that my waitress didn’t offer to take my payment from the table like she did the other customers. I was finished eating, just finishing up my tea. I didn’t feel welcomed. I was sat at the first booth upon walking in the door that was close to the front door & a continuous draft ran across my back. I usually ask to be seated somewhere else but I didn’t bother,didn’t want to make it an issue,next time I will speak up. How would you feel about going back to a restaurant who literally acknowledges & gives different treatment to everyone but you? Would you feel out of place? I will not be going back to this location. I will eat at Denny’s if I have to💯

Been to other black bears and it was a better experience. Ive also been to this location years ago and had an enjoyable experience. However, today was very disappointing. Pancakes were fine, potatoes were burnt and server who seemed to struggle getting to tables, never checked on me once. She even walked right past me multiple times when I needed refill on my drink but never looked my way once. Not until I was ready to leave and get the check.

We was regulars at the Natomas location, ate there aleast 6 times a week until I refused to let one server help us,, then he became assistant manager about 8 months later and had our favorite server 86 me , because I didn't care for him,, I called corporate and they didn't work with me so now we go to woodland location, also we ate in Davis or Dixon location and the little girl server that started all the junk tried to get us kicked out there also , little trouble maker.. so now lumberjack is getting my money , Natoma was the best place around until all this...
