The restaurant is clean, the service is always very friendly, and the food is perfect! The prices are a little higher than places ten miles away but that's due to the crazy rent the landlord charges. I don't have to drive ten miles and that more than makes up for the extra buck or two. Give it a try! You'll love it!
Edit(June 2024): This place still has to be the best Mexican food place on this side of town by considering price, quality & quantity of food, environment, and of course customer service. I have eaten here many many more times since I had written the original review. Every single one of my visits to Homero's Mexican Food I have not encountered any issues at all, just friendly staff and delicious food. They are always quick with getting the food out, it usually takes less than 10 minutes but it varies on how heavy the crowd is. For anyone who has not tried eating here before, I recommend the California Burrito, Supreme Burrito, Torta(sandwich) with preferably carne asada or shredded beef, or the crunchy chicken or shredded beef tacos(crunchy tacos are a dollar cheaper on Sundays). Their delicious cold Horchatas are also worth trying! Homero's has most commonly been for quick to-go meals or for single party diners, but I have found it especially great for parties of 2-5 as the inside vibe is welcoming and in a way stimulates the conversation! I absolutely owe much applause to this restaurant. From the look of the restaurant, to the costumer service, as well as the delicious food, Homero’s is just a outstanding restaurant that deserves much more patrons. Looking for a local and mouthwatering Mexican food and joint? Well your in luck because Homero’s Mexican food is near by and in service, every time I visit this place there is never anyone else dinning in or ordering food even during the busiest hours. I ordered a chicken mexi-bowl, that was much delightful, most people review their food as salty, but really it hasn’t been salty for any of the multiple times I have eaten here. I hope this underrated place is able to keep up operation, hopefully I also gave you some interest in trying their food! I had also ordered the chicken salad with a side of beans and rice once and will be again🔥👇
Cool place for Mexican food on a Saturday afternoon. Food is tasty and made quickly to order. A little on the higher sodium side but still tasty. Horchata tasted like horchata. Get the daily special to have a soda otherwise select from one of their other plate. Plenty of items to choose from.
Dude that helped me was super friendly. Quality of food definitely matched the price. I had one of the breakfast burritos and it was great. I'll definitely return.
Great food, I had the chicken taco combo with beans and rice. You can judge a Mexican restaurant by the beans and rice so I judge Homer's to be delicious!
Excellent service, delicious Mexican food that I haven't seen in a long time. Try a burrito, you won't regret it. There is also something delicious for vegetarians. Taste this place, you will not regret
Ordered a double meat carne casada and it hit the spot! The place is almost too clean to be called a taqueria. But the food here is awesome. Will come back whenever passing thru i5.. Interestingly no taquerias open on a weekend on the eastern side of the freeway.
My husband and I enjoy trying new spots, and this one truly stood out. The staff was warm, respectful, and treated us like valued guests. The moo shu pork was delicious and fresh, and the jasmine tea was fragrant and calming. The cozy atmosphere, complete with traditional Chinese décor, gave us a sense of comfort and nostalgia.
I was delighted to find lighter options on the menu. Th staff happily made adjustments so my dish was prepared without excess oil. I ordered the steamed fish with vegetables, which was fresh, delicate, and full of flavor. The restaurant was bright, clean, and refreshing, making it the perfect spot for a guilt-free but tasty meal.
One of the better authentic Chinese restaurants here in Sac, reasonably priced, wide selection of dimsum, family style dishes, and soups. We ordered a bunch of stuff to go and they gave you pretty big boxes and filled them all up. We also went back another day to dine in and the food was fresh, service was fast, and the food was grandma approved. Honey walnut shrimp wasn't that good, too much mayo and wasn't very sweet. Dim sum was super tasty tho! The green veggies were a bit too tough. Everything else was tasty.
Our work team loves coming here to eat. It’s a great place for a group as you can try a little of everything. The pork buns are my favorite but the reality is everything is great. This time I asked for a special order of the piggy buns, I loved them. Super cute and filled with a sweet bean. They are absolutely worth a try. It can be a little confusing on your first visit on how to get items to your table, but the staff is nice and will explain everything. Don’t be shy they will do what they can to help you.
Michelin bib gourmand all-day dim sum eatery. Stopped by on the way down from Lake Tahoe back to LA on a Sunday, and left with happy tummies. There was a short wait (write your name and party size on the paper by the hostess stand) for indoor dining (no outdoor dining available). Takeout is also available. Free parking is available in the back of the building and in the alley. Credit cards are accepted. Bathrooms are available in the back right and side of the restaurant. They have tea service ($1/person). Food-wise, everything was on point. We got ~11 dishes for four people and still a couple of dishes leftover. To summarize each dish: - The siu mai was super moist and piping hot - we ordered four. - The har gao had juicy shrimp but the skin was a tad thick - The green tea mochi was super chewy and I loved the filling - The BBQ pork bun was large and pillowy, but had a small portion of meat - The fried shrimp dumpling was a bit cold but still good; it came with a sweet pink sauce - Similar to the above, the shrimp and scallop dumpling was cold but had a good amount of stuffing - The spareribs were soft and juicy; my mom really liked them - The custard buns come with a lot of custard filling and are just the right amount of sweetness They have cart service so you can easily eat a variety to your heart’s content. They had several tables good for large parties (8 people or so). Overall, it’s a delicious restaurant that truly merits a Michelin distinction.
The Chinese food was great. The beef chow mein and the my-shu tasted flavorful and very filling. The portion sizes were worth the price. The honey walnut shrimp however wasn’t great, I would not recommended that. It’s has a creamy like mayonnaise sauce on it that wasn’t horrible but I wouldn’t get it again. The dish also didn’t come as much as I anticipated. This isn’t a must try Chinese restaurant, but I would order here again.
Better quality than most other Chines restaurants I've tried in the grid for takeout. Good green beans. Good boneless la zi ji with lots of peppers. Noodles had great texture but the velveted beef had a fishy taste to the oil. Next time I'll get plain vegetarian noodles. Huge portions and good value.
Came here for dim sum because we were in the area. Selection was really limited and the carts weren’t coming around as often as I would have expected. Food itself was fine but it wouldn’t be my top choice for dim sum in Sacramento. A bit disappointed with the overall options to choose from. Staff was nice
I love the flavors, authentic chinese dimsum in a typical chinese restaurant set up. The service crew is polite, the dim sum choices and numerous and turn over of new choices is quick. Unfortunately as it's a typical chinese restaurant the ambient noise is so loud especially when the place is full
The Ming Dynasty is one of the famous Chinese restaurants that have Cantonese Dim Sum. I was there with a few friends to enjoy their yummy dim sum this morning. The restaurant is open at 10 am on the weekends. We were there at 10:35 am. The parking lots are full. We have to park our car a block away on a street parking. The Ming Dynasty doesn't have enough parking spaces. The restaurant is less than half full at the time. The service in the Ming Dynasty is fast. All the dim sum items we ordered are very delicious. The prices are reasonable compared to other dim sum restaurants in recent years.
Really good dim sum. Sat down and enjoyed a variety of dishes. The first dish was cold and we had to send it back to be reheated but every dish after that was hot. One suggestion I would make is along with the hot sauce and soy sauce at every table, they should also include a bottle of vinegar. I had to ask for it and it took a while to get someone's attention to bring some over. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable experience. A little loud but that is part of the experience of eating this type of restaurant.
This tasty spot surprised me a bit. From the outside, it does not look like much. On the inside, they offer family style dining with good comfort food. There's a huge menu selection along with the dim sum selection. A great place for group and family dining. Service is fast and consistently good. So is the food. Decent amount of parking offered on the both sides of the restaurant.
The food is decent, but the overall experience feels more like the McDonald’s of Mexican food. No complimentary chips and salsa—you’ll need to pay extra. No quesabirria on the menu, and even when dining in, they serve everything on plastic plates with plastic utensils. Not bad, but definitely not a place you go for an authentic or elevated experience.
Food is Okay, got a Ground beef burrito (pretty good and juicy). Horchata drink is alright, just has an odd after taste. The rice there can use some salt.
Update 4/27/21: food has held up alright, its not the best mexican food but will do for Pocket. The churros are always on point! ---- Busy first night open but worth the wait, food was pretty tasty! I imagine it will only get better and they will become a pocket staple. So glad to have a taqueria in the Greenhaven/Pocket area!
Decent food, simple furnishings, order from the register, pick it up when it's ready. Price a little higher than expected. Guacamole and chips were a disappointment.
We probably should not have come on Christmas dinner but unfortunately they were not prepared. Lack of staff, long wait times, poor service and the food was just barely eatable. Pot stickers came not warm at all. They brought out the walnut shrimp and they were soaked in mayonnaise. It was 20 minutes later and they brought a dish we didn’t order. They finally brought the correct dish and forgot the rice. The chicken dish was so salty. Won’t be back.
Ordered around $50 worth of food, experience walking in was mediocre, host barley seemed willing to help. On top of that didn't want to believe my name, when I told them the name as soon as I walked in. Vibes seem a little off if you don't happen to be from Asian descent. Food was just okay!
Popular Chinese restaurant in downtown Sacramento, known for its dim sum lunch. Lots of traditional Cantonese dishes, including chicken feet, spare ribs, and all sorts of dumplings and bao. It can be very crowded, so getting there early is key. Small parking lot fills up fast. Efficient but not always friendly service. Beware they automatically add a service charge to your bill.
Provided a very authentic experience. The shu mai was good and I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken feet. They were very flavorful. The cleanliness of the location wasn't great and we had to seat longer than expected. A number of parties, of various sizes were seated despite being past us on the list. The baked pork buns tasted better than the steam pork buns, but the steamed ones had more filling (meat). The taste didn't astound but it was a solid meal.
I wish I read the reviews on here before I came in to eat. It’s my first time here. I always hate giving negative reviews but this place was below average. The food is very overpriced. The service was fast. I had the five rolled tacos with sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. Rolled tacos were OK, definitely nothing special. The sour cream was crème fraîche and runny, which I enjoyed. There was a hint of guacamole, I could barely tell it was even in there, and they were very skimpy with the cheese. There was a small bone in one of the beef rolled tacos. I will probably not come back to this place. I will say the fresh green salsa is pretty delicious, had a nice unique, very fresh flavor.
I was there for the 1st time as I always like to give my business to our locals, walking in, place was empty with 1 person waiting for his burrito, it took a while still after I got there, I order my food with the young girl that looked like she was being forced to be there, no questions as to what/How I wanted my menudo, what kind of tortillas as normally that is the question I get everywhere else. it took a while as there was only 1 cook and this girl tending to the restaurant. when the food comes out, its put on the counter for one to go get it, even older people who struggled to go seat down, then has to get up to go get their food from the counter. this is as if I was at a fast food joint, then the food comes in plastic bowl and plastic utensils, as if I had asked for it to go? I am eating in and eating off plastic bowls? the menudo was good, the tortillas not fully cooked and they have no coffee. I gave it a try, not 100% happy, will not go there again.
i. ordered the enchilada plate pictured with rice and beans and it didn't come with either for delivery
I went there yesterday and the young lady was rude . She didn’t smile had no customer service at all . And she didn’t even get my order right. Sunday they have tacos $250 . So I ordered one of each. She only charged me for two. But the ground beef tacos were good. I would go back for the ground beef tacos . But I hope she not there .
Came here all the time but the quality and service has quickly declined. There was a toothpick melted in the cheese of my burrito my last visit. Went back for a refund and the cashier couldn’t care less. Definitely not returning after this.
Came in today to get the special tacos. We’re really nasty not even able to be eaten like a taco pleas see pictures. When I asked the lady don Carmen if I can get my money back, she looked at me like I was crazy said that’s how they sell them I showed her the plate before throwing away please just look at pictures. THATS HOW THEY SELL THEM. Is what I was told. Save your money Greenhaven!! Very bad Mexican food
I was picking up a customer order with doordash needed to pee but they said the bathroom is closed. So if I was dinning in and needed to pee I guess I would pee on myself or she was lier I had business there so I don't get why I couldn't use the bathroom I won't go back to eat rude and worst first impression and plus has wierd oder in there to ty
Ordered the Mexi-Bowl from here and found a fingernail in my food. This is really unacceptable for a restaurant. I am really disgusted that I pulled this out of my mouth. I ordered from this restaurant a few times, but I am noticing the food quality is going downhill. Now because of this latest incident I will definitely not be coming back.
Worst mexican food I've ever eaten. It was horrible, all of it. Fake guacamole, cheese enchilada was filled with cold pre-shredded cheese. Cashier said they didn't microwave it enough. Chili Verde was lame. Nothing authentic about this place at all. Don't waste your money!!!
The servers here are incredibly sweet and attentive, but unfortunately, the management is a different story. Every time I visit, the manager is on the phone screaming, which I tried to ignore until I had to interact with her directly. She was extremely rude and kept rolling her eyes for no apparent reason. It’s disappointing because the rest of the staff is wonderful, but the manager really needs to show some basic manners.
