We ended up there as a spontaneous location for our wedding anniversary dinner. The staff was very attentive to make sure we had a great dinner celebration. They treated us to a complimentary strawberry cheesecake which was amazing, and a return coupon in the form of an anniversary card. I had the Tomahawk pork chop which was excellent and she had a Ney York Strip was done nicely but had more marbling than she is used as she usually prefers a leaner cut. Overall we had a great evening and will be returning for another visit.
Ted was a great waiter, very attentive. I have eaten here many times before events at Xcel Energy Center and I always had good food. Lots of variety on the menu. Great in terms of timing, getting you out to your event, but they always make sure you have great food first.
First visit and was NOT disappointed. Very quiet and relaxing environment. Server was very polite and welcoming. Food was very good as well.
Our waitress was fabulous, she was on top of our order. Helped get my daughters to their concert timely, had great recommendations for desserts.
Dinner and service were absolutely splendid and the new York cheesecake dessert was absolutely spectacular! I would definitely recommend to anyone that is looking for a great evening out
Fantastic place to eat. Eddy and his whole family & staff take the most pride in providing excellent service and food. Our waitress was personable and even made me an iced coffee even though it wasn’t on the menu. 10/10 experience. Food was delicious! Will be back soon
We recently hosted my sister’s wedding dinner at the Downtowner Woodfire Grill, and I cannot express enough how exceptional the entire experience was. From the moment we began planning, the team—especially Wendy, Moe, Patrick, and our incredible server Steven—was warm, accommodating, and truly dedicated to making the evening special. There was also a wonderful helper supporting Steven whose name I unfortunately can’t remember, but he was equally fantastic. I’ll admit, I pushed for a few changes in the setup to coordinate with our color scheme, leading up to the event, and not only did the staff handle everything with grace, but they went above and beyond to ensure our vision came to life seamlessly. The space was beautiful, the service was impeccable, and the food? Absolutely delicious. The buffalo shrimp blew us away! Even my toddlers loved their meals! The steak was perfect as usual and the cheesecake was the cherry on top. Every guest left full, happy, and genuinely impressed. I am so grateful to the team at Downtowner Woodfire Grill for helping create such a memorable and joy-filled evening for my sister and our family. It was perfect in every way. I’ve been here many times, it’s my go to suggestion for restaurants that have a cozy environment and amazing food! I’m also a big fan of the wine selection here. This really is the place to enjoy a lovely afternoon or evening! THANK YOU ALL!
Should be 4.5 by 🌟 stars 4.999999999 on service because no one is perfect. Unlike some who pretend their something special. Not our waiter. He should have been a priest maybe a pastor. Not at a Megachurch. He's way to smart for that.
Had a lunch here was really packed they have their own parking lot but can be full at times so surrounding areas should have plenty pay parking. Service was great and the food was exquisite the taste was on point for the NY Prime i ordered JUICY! very nice people all around and the rates were decent not too expensive really great service all around Would really recommend check them out 9/10
Brought my mom down for lunch for a change of the usual and she loved it. They had the fire place going and it was comfortable and relaxing. She had the steak and I had kebabs. The food was delicious and we were both full when we left. The photos may look sparse but it was more filling than it looked and the flavors were incredible. Service was excellent and we were treated very well coming and leaving.
I had a delightful experience. The atmosphere was cozy and sophisticated. We were warmly greeted by a gentleman in a suit who, along with our waitress, checked on us regularly. Excellent customer service all around. Highly recommended!
You know a place is good when you see the mayor meeting with people in here! We had breakfast here and it was so delicious. I got the Woodfire Grill eggs benedict. The food came out super quick too! Do beware, just because the coffee mugs are already on the table doesn't mean the coffee is free 😆
It was on the pricey side, but restaurant is beautiful like the culture of St. Paul. Easy parking near other great restaurants. Great food and selection of drinks. The waitress was very nice and professional. Very relaxing and quiet atmosphere at this restaurant. Other guests eating there were also nice to us even striking a quiet conversation with us. We felt welcomed, so I ordered some expensive bottle wines To Go. Everybody should eat here. It’s a great restaurant.
The program we’re in availed the private dining room for us and my experience here was outstanding! Good food, great ambience, overall a wonderful place. I especially loved the freshly-baked bread served with butter. Meal portions were filling.
Busy night and they still were nice to do seat us early from our reservation. Fast and friendly service. Pretty fireplace. Hot, tasty food. Would definitely revisit if in the are again.
If you are ever in Saint Paul and you want a good, sophisticated, home cooked tasting breakfast...THIS IS THE SPOT. They even have a space for private dining. It's never too crowded or loud. The ambiance is perfect. I've been here 4 times already with my team.
The food was fantastic and the service was incredibly fast! Our server was very friendly and professional! Their omelets were delicious! They had a keyboard musician who played Gershwin, which made our brunch even more enjoyable!
The service and food was absolutely delightful. I was impressed by the fact that the head of the restaurant came out to personally ask how we were doing, I didn't think that was a thing anymore. The menu looked fabulous I would have liked to try more. The crab cakes were the best I'd ever had.
I had an exceptional experience at this bar and restaurant. The succulent steaks were unparalleled, complemented by top-notch service. The venue's pristine cleanliness and unique ambiance added to the overall delightful dining atmosphere. Highly recommended for steak enthusiasts seeking a memorable culinary journey.
This St. Paul icon never disappoints. My go-to for lunch is their black angus sirloin steak sandwich. Their BLT and Club House Sandwich are also wonderful. The service is top notch and the prices are surprisingly affordable for such an atmosphere, service level, and quality of food. It's been a while since I've been here for breakfast, but the cajun breakfast was quite tasty if you don't mind a little spice in the morning.
The steaks were delicious taste of woodfire smoke. The side vegetables roasted woodfire grilled.
We arrived early and the staff was beyond accommodating. They got a table set for us in no time. We started with the scallop ceviche, it was great the flavors were very fresh and not over powered with sea food. The lamb chops where great, cooked perfectly and the flavor was remarkable. Highly recommend for a date night!
The food was excellent and the waiter was awesome! We called ahead to ask about the dress code and whether children were welcome. Our child received her food before we received our food which was an amazing touch! We would definitely return.
The BEST breakfast in Saint Paul. Moe and his staff show impeccable hospitality. Beautiful, warm, cozy atmosphere. The food is AMAZING. Moe's Cajun Breakfast- my all time favorite! The berry crepes are also superb! I would definitely recommend!
We went before a show at Xcel and we had a nice time. I started with the shrimp & calamari app, and that was really good. I ordered the pork chops, and that was pretty good.
Great Sunday breakfast. Piano player in the background, service was good, food was good and also affordable. Had a party of 6 and we we're all happy. Nice to find a place that serves actual real breakfast meals rather than some menu with over thought and over the top items. It's breakfast.. Have a few inovated ideas, but serve the classics as well. The downtowner delivered!
Fantastic place! My dad's favorite place for breakfast when he visits. Extremely friendly staff, quality food, warm and cozy atmosphere.
We went with a wedding party following a wedding. Had reservations for a party of 17 and after a brief wait were seated. The area was exceptionally busy because of a hockey game and and the parking was challenging, although some of us were fortunate to be able to park in the restaurants. Dedicated parking. Had we known how busy this area would be we might have made another choice, but at the end of the day everything worked out fine. The food was excellent. The cocktails were enjoyable and our single server who took care of our entire table did a great job. One suggestion, seeing that it was a wedding party, I would suggest that management would have at least provided a complimentary cocktail or perhaps a glass of champagne to The newlyweds. It would have been a nice touch and in view of the total ring out a small investment in Goodwill. Still all in all we had a good experience and I can't help but make a good recommendation for this establishment.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday here & had an exceptional experience. Our server, Paul, was extremely professional & attentive. The warm gold lighting, the piano player, & open wood fire created a soothing atmosphere. The martini’s, hummus appetizer, shrimp & salmon meals were perfect. Paul brought my husband a delicious piece of cheesecake to celebrate his birthday dinner. Finally, the bouquets of fresh roses in the restroom was a lovely touch. Thank you all for creating a perfect memory to celebrate my darling husband.
This location has a long history in St. Paul, originally as a breakfast cafe. In 2001, the Sharifkhani family made it into a warm, inviting restaurant with the flavor of a supper club. The owner, a very well dressed gentleman came up to our family of four and we chose a booth with an open view of the wood fired grill. We did have time to look at the large, bar and the adjacent huge wine rack. The place has a simple elegance to it. From the grill, I was about to ordered fire grilled chicken when our server said, "Order the swordfish! How often do you see swordfish on a menu?" My wife and I both chose two skewers of grilled center cut swordfish. It was grilled to perfection and the fish itself is rich and satisfying. The soup of the day was a New England style white clam chowder, which is a staple in diners and restaurants; this was made that day, and we all ordered it and it was full of clam chunks with just the right texture, i.e. not too thick and floury as it often is. Two of our party had the best example we've had of a flourless chocolate torte, and my wife and I had "death by chocolate" quality ice creams for dessert. As the restaurant was clearing out with fans coming for an early afternoon Wild game, I noticed that the owner quietly asked our server and floor staff to vacuum the carpet around a few tables with some large parties. Owner involvement, solicitous staff, great food and an inviting atmosphere for all kinds of groups. What's not to like? If you're anywhere in the neighborhood , you must visit the Downtowner Woodfire Grill.
We went here for my brother's birthday dinner and it was a great choice. The food was wonderful and our server was very kind. Their apple crisp was almost as good as my grandma's recipe. We will for sure be back.
Nice and quiet peaceful atmosphere. Both of us had steak and it was cooked just right. The staff was friendly and right on top of it. Would definitely recommend it to my fMily and friends. Oh yeah there is a fire place in the center of the restaurant. It wasn't going but would love to see it going.
Husband and I enjoyed two different meals a breakfast and a dinner during our visit to the city. The restaurant was recommended by a hotel staff and we were not disappointed. At our dinner meal, Selena took excellent care of us with the food being exceptional. We now will return to the city to visit again and we know we will be back to dine at this great restaurant. Highly recommend!
If you want good food made right, THIS IS THE PLACE! I work near the Capitol, so I order in whenever I have time for a quick bite. This has been my go to place since the first time I ordered. My food is always packaged securely, and is always piping hot. I will forever choose this restaurant and recommend it to everyone I know!
Came here with a reservation before a Wild Game. I will say this place is worth the money. We had the swordfish and New York Strip. My steak was to die for and my husband's fish was amazing. Service was fast and friendly. Food came out promptly. Cocktails were delicious. Pricing perfectly reasonable for how wonderful it was.
Excellent food and service. Our server, Izzy, was spot on when I asked for recommendations. Pictured here is the Chicken mushroom pizza and the orange creamsicle. My only callout is the pizza being a bit too tough to bite into; so I ended up wasting the crust. Looking forward to returning.
Good food but was surprised breakfast ends at noon
Enjoyable evening. Was lucky to find a parking spot in their lot since there was a Wild game starting as our dinner reservation time was due. Artichoke dip was a favorite! So good. Food was good but the ribeye was a little on the tough side. Could have just been that animal, but it was cooked correctly. Wait staff was working hard but could have checked in a bit more often. All in all, we'll be back. Ambiance was nice, though the entire restaurant was a bit warm inside.
Overall, a decent place to get a bite to eat, especially before an even at the Xcel. I feel like it used to be a bit better 5+ years ago, but still good. The Cesar salad is awesome.
Lamb chops were delicious. Nice spot for a night downtown. They service was a little lacking and had to ask for water refills a couple times. Good quite spot though and got us right in. The shrimp was a little over cooked and the artichoke dip was more of just a hot cheese dip.
The atmosphere was very nice and warm. When we arrived, we didn't wait long at all. We were greeted fairly quick and seated. Customer service could definitely improve though. During our dining, we were never asked if the food was good, how we're doing so far (if anything was needed), and our water cup was never refilled. There weren't much customers so it was definitely disappointing. As our waitress walked passed us, she did manage to ask if my husband wanted another beer which he said yes. She said thank you very fast and walked away. Food wasnt bad although the guacamole could be better. There wasn't much of any other ingredients. It was mainly just crushed avocado, which we had chucks of still. The lamb was amazing though! Presentation of it was also amazing. I enjoyed the lamb more than the swordfish. The swordfish was quite dry. Would be nice if they added some form of sauce to top it off.
Went here for a work lunch; The resturaunt looks fantastic, classy and clean, Staff were incredibly friendly. My only gripe was the food itself. The Woodfield pizza I got tasted like something off of a kids menu. Everything here looked and tasted very "simple."
Ah I totally forgot to take a picture of the Sirloin I ordered. But it was alright, went here to try a different place for my birthday. Wasn't bad I thought but my fam didn't like it. My steak was more medium then medium well so it was disappointing. My fam said there's didnt have much flavor besides the saucey stuff on top. desserts were decent and quac was a bit bland. there was hardly anyone there. service was good but still a bit slow. it's also very spendy.
We used to come here often when we lived here 15 years ago. Our most recent visit was quite disappointing. The food was average, at best. Service was adequate. The place looked tired. Very unfortunate. SO many better places to eat.
Went to celebrate our birthdays at 445pm on a Sunday night and the Wild were playing at 5pm. No parking available in either lot (even though restaurant was half full)and no one was monitoring parking (it was well below zero). Had to spend $20 to park 2 blocks away. The Wild were playing (even though we weren't going) menu has event pricing. Had a great table by the fireplace and our server was excellent as was the food. Will look at the X events next time before making reservations.
Everything was just okay. Went before a wild game and was seated quickly, but not much attention, the espresso martini was syrupy, and the pizza was reminiscent of a frozen pizza (needed to be cooked longer to highlight that wood fired char). For the price of the tab and the other reviews, I expected this to be a much better experience.
We were in town for the Eric Church concert and chose the Downtowner based on the reviews. Based on that, we made a reservation as suggested…when we arrived we expected the place to be packed since we only had two options for times, 3:45 and 7:00. Since the concert started at 7:00 we chose 3:45. The place was nearly empty…which should have gave the impression that good service was coming our way..nope! Our party of 4 was indeed seated immediately and then promptly forgotten about for 10 minutes. After being brought water and having our drink order taken, we were again forgotten about for another 10 minutes. After roughly 20 minutes from being seated we were finally brought our drinks and told that he would be back to take our order in just a minute. Well, five minutes later he did indeed get around to taking our order. None of this would have been really that upsetting except, the place was almost empty as it wasn’t even 4:30 PM. Finally, dinner arrives roughly 25 minutes after placing our orders. The food was ok, at best. The chicken kabobs I ordered were dry as was the swordfish that my husband ordered. The wood fired pizza my grandson and daughter ordered was undercooked but tasted fine. All in all, I’m just giving this place an “OK”…way over priced for the food quality and service but the atmosphere was good.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The food, service and value was among the best other restaurants around. There is also complimentary parking in one of two lots. Unfortunately, we had a poor experience there last night. So bad that I'm unsure I will go there again. Perhaps it was a fluke experience given the large parties related to the Final Four, but the entire staff just seemed a bit off and the dining experience for the special event we were celebrating was sullied. The server was not attentive. It took a long time to even get our orders taken. We had to ask/beg three times before any bread came out. No new silverware was provided or offered after salad/bread, or even after one piece of silverware fell (accidentally) on the ground. The server saw it and still didn't offer new silverware, but seemed perturbed by the situation. Dishes lingered and were not cleared promptly. Refills on drinks were incredibly slow. A non-dairy/allergy friendly food request was not honored, despite the fact the server indicated it could have been. There was no offer for dessert or after meal drinks, and I believe I know why. When we got up from the table, staff zoomed over to prep the table for another group. It appeared that the restaurant had overlapping reservations. In two meals, the main dish meat was undercooked to the point a good portion of the dishes were not eaten. No one ever asked us how things were after the good arrived (the server and manager historically do), and it was clear the server was content to extract the obligatory 20% gratuity based on our group size. I have no problem tipping well, but when you get incredibly poor service, particularly for a special event you are celebrating, that's an inappropriate tip amount. Overall, I really was disappointed with our latest dining experience and how it diminished the special event that we were celebrating. I am hopeful that this was a one time off experience. I am torn on whether to give the restaurant another chance.
Great service, gluten free wasnt great which is why we went there based of reviews. My significant other had regular steak dinner and wasnt impressed with that either. We were sad based of the what we thought were good reviews
The food was not good. At least not on this visit. One of our meals was comped so that was nice of them. That being said three of the four meals should have been comped. Nice vibe in the restaurant and the service was great. Parking is free if you’re going to the wild game. But that does not make up for the food.
