I don’t know what the haters are talking about because Cosmica is one of the BEST meals we’ve ever had. Every bite was phenomenal. Pork riblets were to die for, fatty but well balanced with relish. Mushroom pizza was probably the best pizza we’ve ever had. Rigatoni was warm and nostalgic. Brussel sprouts were sweet and light. Service was perfect- attentive but not overbearing. We’ll be back!

What an experience! As a self proclaimed slc foodie I am in awe with this spot! Not only is the staff outstanding so was our service, plus the atmosphere was so chic, and the food was outstanding! We loved their fries, brussel sprouts and puffy bread to start and that bread is a MUST order! We moved on to our pizza and Bolognese which were both outstanding and made us feel like we were truly in New York City enjoying this food not SLC! Happy to have you here and can't wait to come back again and again! Don't skip out on the cheesecake!

We had heard great things about Cósmica and decided to try it out, and we weren’t disappointed. Our waiter was Maxx and he provided great service. The hostess was nice and got us seated right away. For our appetizers, we ordered the house puffy bread with the spicy pomodoro and the heirloom tomato salad, and it was all gone before I could even take a picture. The puffy bread with the pomodoro was incredible and I wish I would have ordered another. For our main dishes, we got a Littleneck clams pizza, the prosciutto pizza, an order of rigatoni and the bolognese. We also got an order of fries, which honestly were pretty average. Probably the least exciting thing we got. The clam pizza was good, the prosciutto pizza was better. Both pastas were really good. Lots of flavor and very hearty. Definitely a great place to eat. Good vibes and food. Parking right at the restaurant is tight, but there are plenty of spots nearby. We parked across the street and took the crosswalk over.

We made reservations a month and a half ago and it was worth the wait. The food was delicious, best pasta in the city! Linguine & Shrimp, lasagna rotolo, the drink is the Redford.

Granted this is no longer an original opinion now that the NYTimes has given Cosmica due credit - but this is probably the best nicer restaurant I’ve been to in Salt Lake. It manages to be both relaxed and elegant, and the food is truly so, so delicious - it is satisfying as you’d expect Italian food to be, but feels modern with just-interesting-enough flavor combinations and unique choices. This is where I take friends or family when I want to bust the myth that all food in Salt Lake is mediocre :)

Amazing!! Honestly I went in hesitant because of all the hype around this place, and was completely wowed. Eli gave us the best recommendations to make sure we have the best food experience possible. Everything was seasoned to perfection and tasted amazing. We got the eggplant parm (surprised me how good it was), kale Caesar (would get again), mushroom pizza (bottom one on the pizza list on the menu, cannot say how much I LOVED this), and the rigatoni amartriciana (probably spelled that wrong but it was absolutely amazing and they elevated your typical sauce from a plain spicy to red sauce so something with real depth of flavor) 10/10 would go back. So cute. So fun. Obsessed.

Cosmica: Warm Vibes, Great Food, and a Few Happy Surprises Cosmica is super cute — a great vibe from start to finish. Everyone we met — host, bartenders, waitstaff, and what I’m pretty sure was the manager — was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seemed happy we were there. Parking Tip If you’re driving, park on the side with the “Maven” customer signs. It’s two-hour parking, and we even had a parking attendant from a nearby business check in. Once we said we were going to the restaurant, he waved us through — kind of nice to know the lot is monitored. First Impressions Cosmica is tucked underneath apartments, with charming windows labeled wine – pizza – pasta. Bonus points for the Pride flag out front — my other half and I love seeing that when we walk in. It instantly made us feel even more at home. Inside, there’s a converted indoor-patio space to the right (adorable), and more formal dining to the left. Definitely make a reservation — even on a Thursday, the next available table wasn’t until 9 PM. We lucked out by spotting the bar and were happily seated there, the only guests at the counter all night. It felt private and special, with our bartender’s full attention. Drinks & Starters The menu is a placemat-sized two-sider with tempting pastas, pizzas, and more. I went for the Snake Bite Sangria (perfect choice for the night) while my other half enjoyed a glass of Sikele Rosso. For our starter, we had Prosciutto di Parma with warm, salty gnocco fritte. Delicious on their own, but I later realized the menu lists a pear mostarda — which we didn’t get — and I think it would have added a great sweet balance. Still tasty enough to box up for breakfast the next day. Salad Win We always try the Caesar, and Cosmica’s did not disappoint. Shredded lettuce (so easy to eat), crushed croutons sprinkled throughout, and a balanced dressing with added anchovies. Texturally and flavor-wise, it was spot-on. Mains & A Little Mix-Up When ordering, I asked about the Pork Milanese — mostly curious about the chili aïoli it comes with. Once I learned it could be a little spicy (and spice isn’t my friend), I opted for the Pacific Striped Bass instead. While we enjoyed our appetizers and salad, our bartender came by to say the kitchen was running a little behind and that a few items would be comped because of the wait — a thoughtful gesture we really appreciated. The funny thing is, we didn’t even notice the delay. We’re great company for ourselves, and there was plenty of energy, movement, and details to take in from the bar. I even told her the comp wasn’t necessary, but she insisted. When the entrées arrived, my other half got his Chicken Scarpariello (tender thighs in a white wine sauce — delicious). I, however, received the pork cutlet instead of the seabass. By then it was getting late, and since I had been on the fence between the two dishes anyway, I decided to keep it. It was crispy, juicy, and reminded me of a great schnitzel — though I did have to scrape off most of the spicy aïoli. Still, everything was clearly fresh, hot, and well-prepared. Extra Pasta Because… Why Not Mid-meal, we saw a pasta dish go by that looked too good to skip. Enter the Spaghettone — perfectly al dente, fresh, and worth every bite. Yes, we were now up to four to-go boxes. Sweet Ending We skipped a full dessert (too full!) but couldn’t resist the Lemon Sorbetto. Light, tart, refreshing — the perfect palate cleanser. Final Thoughts We left full, happy, and impressed — both by the food and the warm, attentive staff. Next time, I’ll make a reservation, aim for that seabass, and maybe bring friends for a laid-back, laughter-filled night. Pro Tips: • Reserve ahead — bar seating is great, but fills fast. • Park in Maven customer spots and let the attendant know you’re dining at Cosmica. • If you see the Spaghettone, just order it. Trust me.

This place absolutely blew me away! From the moment we walked in, the space is beautifully designed. The pizza and pasta were full of flavors. I’m definitely coming back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

The other reviews about this place are pissing me off. This place is criminally underrated on here. There is a reason this place is on the NYT Best Restaurant List — it’s sublime, the service is amazing, and the food and drinks are some of the best in the city. Someone on here was complaining about the parking situation? and someone else was complaining that it was too busy? Of course it’s busy the food is bomb.

First off I really want to applaud the service. It seems like more often than not in Salt Lake restaurants forget that good service is part of the experience. The staff at Cosmica is incredibly kind and our server was attentive, helpful, and super friendly. That was a huge part of my positive experience. I’ve really never been a regular anywhere and feel like I might become one here. The restaurant is gorgeous and so unique. There’s a great energy to the room. Everyone seems to enjoy being there. The food is really great too. We got a little bit of everything. I loved the portion sizes. The pizza was really delightful but I think the star was the spaghetti. Really simple and understated with a great flavor and perfect texture to the pasta. I really loved dinner her. Solid and tons of exciting options on the menu. Can’t wait to go back.

We had a lovely time at cosmica. Food, service, and ambiance were all great. Get the puffy bread with stracciatella—simple but so delicious. Gorgeous bar with plenty of non-alcoholic options as well. We can’t wait to come back and try their desserts!

I moved back to SLC in 2022 and the only good ethnic cuisine that was missing was Italian. Cosmica definitely fills that void. I would order every dish we got again. It’s like a mash up between Lupa and Roberta‘s in NYC. It’s really good food, and the space is super cool.

This place has one of the best lasagna I've ever had!!! My friend grew up in an Italian household and he approved the lasagna 👌 Shout out to our waitress, Mariah, for being so kind and attentive. She definitely made my day. The only thing I think that needs improvement is the music. It was a bit too loud. The place was packed with customers and everyone was talking, so with loud music in the background it's just quite overwhelming.

Everything is incredible, the food is just delicious, the menu has a home-made feel and reminds me of my Italian grandmother’s cooking. Every detail is curated to set a lovely dining experience. Salt lake really needed this.

The atmosphere is incredible, staff are friendly, wine list is unique and wide ranging and the food did not disappoint! Our server was so friendly and helped us pick great dishes and natural wine pairings.

Cosmica is a beautiful new restaurant downtown! The menu has clearly labeled vegetarian options which can easily be modified to vegan. The staff is kind and attentive. The atmosphere is gorgeous, so much thought went into the design of the space! Delicious Italian food and mocktails!

Heard many delicious things about this place and boy oh boy was I excited to try it! After a close run in with a (presumable) mushroom enhanced Mike Cox impersonator outside I was ushered in by ribbons of savory aromas. Bean as they call her, my tavern keeper, made me a delicious cocktail with quince (I think that is an amaro) and other exotic spices. Quite wonderful. I had an unfathomable time fitting the straw in my glass (see photo for reference) seems like they were designed for patrons with tiny hands and mouths. Anyway, the sticky bread will not only stick to my belly but to my memory as it intrudes upon my more sensual night terrors with a pillow of goodness with a capital G, much like the G I will be splitting later this evening at snowmobar.

Food was surprising, and great. Short ribs were spoon-tender and very flavorful. The swordfish was deep fried — and fabulous! The pasta vongole was good — the noodles were great but it was too spicy-hot for some of us. Chocolate cake with Luxardo-like cherries and a ball of whipped cream was terrific. The atmosphere is a little hard to read. And I wouldn’t want to be sitting under those neon tubes while eating. All in all a worthwhile new experience

Absolutely fantastic food. We had green lasagna, veal and mushrooms and tuna crudo. They were all amazing in their own way. The mushrooms were perfect and cooked so they were incredibly rich. The tuna was an appetizer I hadn't had before, but made for a light but very flavorful start. Service was very attentive and helpful. We couldn't have had a better experience. Fantastic place!

Incredible restaurant, I'd seen pictures before we went and none of them did this place justice. It's beautiful inside and the tables and decorations are really cool. It's loud, but somehow in a fun way and you can still have a conversation. The food and drinks were all fantastic! I was so impressed by the swordfish milanese and the do-si-do cocktail was wonderful. I absolutely loved the dressing on the kale caeser salad.

Wife and I came for a date night and had a great time. Service was great, food was delicious and came out fast, especially considering that it was packed. Vibes are immaculate. Great decor and little touches everywhere. The pizzas are really good. Definitely grab one to share. Many people recommend the puff bread, which is also tasty, but it's not necessary if you get a pizza. Do get one of the sauces for your crusts in that case. The lasagna was a standout with a rich sauce and great pasta. We finished with the chocolate budino, which was sooo good. Decadent chocolate base with delicious whipped cream and candied orange. Definitely try it. Overall, while I don't think this is SLC's best restaurant, it's definitely up there. There are better values for the price but the whole package here really is a treat. I think the current review score (4.2 as of writing) really undersells Cosmica and might be due to some high expectations set by the NYT.

S
Samantha Brown

Honest to God, don't let yourself be deterred by the lackluster reviews. I was concerned when I saw some of the comments I read before dining but everything about our experience proved them wrong. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and they made wonderful recommendations. Must haves are the Fluffy Bread, Pizza Genovese, and the Bolognese for pasta. If we went again we'd sit at the bar. The bartenders were phenomenal while we sat there to wait for our table to become available. It's a loud, energetic environment, so if you're looking for a more intimate setting, the bar is a great option as you can sit next to your partner and enjoy a conversation while still admiring the beautiful and unique environment of the Italian diner. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. I will be coming back and recommending to friends!

A couple nights ago, we had the absolute pleasure of dining at Cosmica. I made the reservation over a month ago over the hype and have been thinking about it every single day since those few minutes spent on OpenTable. From our initial interaction with the hostess, we knew that we were in for an experience. I wish I caught her name so that I could give her the appropriate mention in this review, but, alas, I will simply have to describe her as kind, witty, and professional. Once seated, we were starving and ordered apps along with drinks. From my interpretation, the house puffy bread was supposed to come with oil. When it came out with nothing for dipping, I peeled off a piece, thinking that I would soon ask the waiter for a ramekin with oil. I raw-dogged half of that loaf with no consideration of the people I was dining with. They were lucky to get what they got. When I got up to use the bathroom, I was shocked to see how much of the bread's topping cheese I had deposited all over my body despite my napkin. Even my face! (Entirely user error) We also got the carpaccio and eggplant parmigiano. Without a doubt, both of these were the best versions of either dish we have ever had ever. Ever. Anywhere. Ever. For the next course, we ordered a fennel salad, French fries, and a pasta dish of which I cannot recall the name, but I can tell you that it was squash in a browned butter sage sauce. The fennel salad was by far the worst thing that we ordered. Obviously it was phenomenal. When a service team member tried to take away the browned butter sage sauce before we had finished drowning our French fries, my wife (relatively politely) yelled at him. My friend also raised his voice. I'm pretty sure that my wife bit him. Of course, we will pay for all shots- tetanus and antibiotics. Our server, Andrew, said it was his third day of training. @Cosmica, he's ready to fly. One member of our group is visiting from out of town. When we decided that we would be making Cosmica a monthly venture, he vowed to fly out. Cosmica is completely deserving of all the hype. A must-do in Salt Lake City.

This restaurant has great charm. It is curated in fun way with neon lights and old dinner feels while still retaining a highend restaurant appearance. Parking is a little difficult as there is a large siren of a parking lot right next to the building but most of the parking is allocated to the gentelmans club next door that never fills out its parking lot... The four of us were seated quickly after arriving on time for our reservation. We ordered the shrimp linguini, the beef carpaccio, bread, olives and nuts, meatballs, swordfish milanese, and a pizza. Everything was delicious. The swordfish was slightly over salted and is better shared by a group than would be for one person as an entre. The pasta was great. I don't normally like or order pastas because I'm usually disappointed. I would have liked to have tried more of their pasta. Pizza crust was good. All in all it was a great experience. Our server was great. Attentive and helpful. The support staff was a little eager to clear plates and we had to tell them several times to leave the dishes on the table. Host staff greated us well and could have easily communicated that there was a small wait, but it got a little awkward. The two last critiques are a common issue I have run into in SLC vs larger city fine dining that is a little more refined. All in all a great place, will return, and happy to have more legit restaurants in a city that has more refining to do.

Heard from a good amount of friends to come try this place out. I wish I would have done it sooner, the service from my bartender Eli was delightful. All of the staff I spoke to were extremely friendly and cultivated a warm environment. The food was absolutely delightful, the Tuna Crudo was fantastic, especially with a nice kick of spice. Whoever designed the restaurant did a great job making this such a unique spot. Huge shout outs as well to Bobbi, Abby, Austin, Aaron, Anastacia and Mikinsley for making it a solid night.

This restaurant in the Central Ninth neighborhood is an absolute gem and makes Salt Lake City feel like it’s finally grown up. The interior design is fun, vibrant, and beautifully curated, creating the perfect atmosphere for an elevated dining experience. The food is exceptional. The prosciutto pizza was truly outstanding, the puffy bread was addictive, and the riblets were among our favorites of the night. Every dish was thoughtful, balanced, and full of flavor. The service was just as impressive. We had the privilege of being helped by Max, who was tremendously knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations that made the meal even better. Cosmica feels like an upscale dining experience you might expect in New York City, Los Angeles, or Tokyo right here in Salt Lake. Well done, Cosmica.

The Neapolitan pizza dough was absolutely perfect and we were especially impressed that they use sourdough starter to make it. The guanciale pasta was almost too spicy for me but the depth of flavor kept me coming back for more! I was so pleased with the natural wine selection and to top it off, our server was very knowledgeable and kind in helping me navigate the menu with my allergy. Thank you, Cosmica team for a phenomenal experience!

Was tempted to give 4 but I think that was primarily due to the expectations I had given the NYT ranking. If you come in with reasonable expectations I believe you will be very pleased. Food: Puffy bread was absolutely killer, we had it with the cheese and peppers which weren’t necessary but definitely enhanced it in our view. Meatballs were a miss for us. Came out on the colder side and didn’t pack as much flavor as we’d expect. The polenta that came with it was tasty though. My short rib macaroni was very solid but didn’t blow me away. We both agreed the beef bolognese was better. Gelato had good but light flavor, and was kind of too frozen? Texture was less creamy and more ice crystal-y. The quince syrup was incredible on it though, will keep my eyes out for that more often. Drinks: Vermouth and soda was lights out, I am officially a vermouth and soda convert, will be my go-to aperitif from now on. Wife said her devil’s disco was one of the drinks she’s had all year as well, so 10/10 on drinks. Service: OK, very friendly but felt like we were maybe forgotten about at times, took like 20-25 minutes to get our drink order in. Atmosphere: Very cool. Hip, upscale, western diner vibes. Overall this meal made me appreciate Italian cuisine in a new way, would happily go here on the occasional special night out.

Kind of a hipster trendy Italian restaurant. Food and service for good. We liked all of our entrees and appetizers with the exception of the warm olives and nuts which were underwhelming. The puffy bread is worth getting to experience - seemed in our group that you either loved it or didn't. Everyone did like their entrees.

Cosmica completely exceeded expectations, easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while. From the moment we sat down, our server Maxx made the evening feel special. They struck that perfect balance of being attentive without hovering, and their recommendations were spot on. You can tell they genuinely care about creating a great experience for every table. The food is absolutely phenomenal. The chicken with potatoes was cooked to perfection: juicy, crispy-skinned, and full of flavor, easily our favorite dish of the night. The Brussels were a surprise standout, deeply flavorful without a hint of bitterness, which is no small feat. And whatever you do, get the puffy bread. It’s warm, airy, and perfect for dipping into your sides or just devouring on its own. Drinks were just as impressive. The Negroni here deserves its own spotlight! Perfectly balanced, bold, and one of the best I’ve had in Salt Lake. Prices were refreshingly reasonable, especially considering the quality and presentation. Dessert is a must too, don’t skip it! We went with the salted caramel chocolate option, and I loved the creative twist they put on such a classic combo. Rich, indulgent, but not overly sweet. The ambiance ties it all together with a vibe that makes you want to linger over another cocktail. Can’t wait to come back and try the pizzas next time. Cosmica is officially in my rotation!

Food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. My partner and I dined for our 4-year anniversary and were delighted! The general manager was filling in as host for the night and stopped by the table more than once to check in, which was such a nice touch. The female bartender was also so kind and made exceptional mocktails and cocktails. We'll definitely be back, thank you for a great evening!

Definitely one of the best Italian meals we’ve had in the states. Ordered the rigatoni, veal, and puffy bread. All were incredible and perfectly cooked. Rigatoni was spicier than we anticipated but still so delicious. Wonderful cocktails as well. Service was prompt, and friendly. One of our dishes came out a bit later than the rest and they handled it well. We had such a fun time eating here! If we can get a reservation again, we’ll definitely be back soon.

The vibe of the restaurant is so fun. The food is delicious. The service is always top notch. The menu is constantly changing which keeps things interesting. This place is becoming a favorite place in salt lake. Honestly would be happy just ordering a puffy bread and the kale Cesar salad, but let’s be honest I always order more than that.

J

I was much looking forward to trying this Italian spot with Roman Italian food- my favorite. The food was delicious. However, it was very packed and it felt like the staff were not fully trained and ready for such crowds. There is also limited parking, so it took over 15 minutes to find parking and ended up having to pay to park. I loved the food but unless it becomes less popular, I probably won’t be back soon.

Service was fantastic great recommendations on the wine. Everything was pretty salty, but I’m not salty we tried it.

Atmosphere is chill. We enjoyed it. Our server Abby was great. Friendly and efficient. We had a sausage pizza and it had amazing flavors. The pesto pasta was ok. The pasta is cooked perfectly. But the sauce tastes mostly like lemon. Parking is tough.

H

Puffy Bread was good. Eggplant Parmesiano was good. The Lasagna was great! The Pumpkin filled Raviolis were buried in Parmesan, and drowned in Brown Butter. The filing was great. But the overall dish not so much. The portion sizes are very lack luster. The inside feels like a weird old Diner located in the parking lot of a Strip Club. The sign for the Restaurant is not visible. But they did have a whiteboard on the sidewalk letting you know where to park, and the Restaurants name. They do not have basic options for Red Wine. Only two that I've never had before. Service was fine. Music level was a bit high. We were not offered any dessert.

We booked a reservation here after our friend read the article in the NY Times, naming Cósmica one of the very best in the state, let alone the nation. For appetizers, we ordered the bluefun tuna, elk carpaccio, and the puffy bread. All very good! 5 stars. For drinks, we ordered the calabrian corpse reviver, which was good, and I believe the acqua Turismo, also good. It's the main dish that dropped the rating for me. I got the chicken- and if was a big portion so that was good; however, the seasoning on it was A LOT of onion. Not too much to where I couldn't eat it, but enough to where I couldn't eat any of the additional topping and just ate the chicken itself. It was smothered in sauce and onions. I was concerned my breath would be bad when dinner was over, kinda much (not typical for me). We also ordered the carrots on the side- really good! My partner ordered the pork Milanese, which was fine. I think they had a special, like lamb or something, and my friend got that. She was meh about it. And my other friend ordered the eggplant parmesan as her main, and she enjoyed it. We also ordered fries, which are the shoe string kind, and they were fine. Overall, the appetizers shine brighter here than the main dishes. Parking is not good so plan to park somewhere and walk over. Definitely need reservations. Our server was very kind.

food quality: 5/5 service: 3/5 cleanliness: 5/5 value: 5/5 Tried Cosmica for the first time and overall, the experience was ok. I previously tried to make reservations online and the open table app would not allow a reservation for more than 5 people. I tried calling several times during their weekday dinner hours and no one would pick up, so I gave up. Fast forward 3 months later, OpenTable finally had option to book for 8 people, so I booked it. Not sure if there was a glitch or not, but glad they fixed it. The parking is a little rough. I knew that from the previous reviews and knew to not park in the strip club parking lot. Luckily we found a spot in the lot between Cosmica and Dough Miner. We were sat shortly after arriving on a Wednesday night. It was surprisingly busy and the service was pretty slow overall. We didn’t get our order taken for at least 25 minutes and somehow a puffy bread order made it to our table even though we didn’t order it. Can’t complain, it was good! Once we had our order taken, the server checked in a few times but there was a lot of pause between check ins. We spent more time waiting for the server to come back with our food, drinks, and to box up our leftover. We were there for nearly 2 hours from the time we sat down to the time we paid for the bill. The positive side was that the food was good and well-seasoned, and the restaurant itself was well-kept. I’m a little disappointed that even though we were celebrating my birthday that we couldn’t even get a free scoop of gelato like most restaurants would happily do. Might have been an off day, hopefully others have a better experience.

Was hopeful after reading the article in the New York Times naming it as a “Top 50” restaurant in the country. So I booked a table long in advance for our party of eight at the end of our family road trip out west. Our experience was pretty much hit and miss and sorry, but generally disappointing. There were some service glitches that resulted in long delays getting our food, it seemed that the restaurant, perhaps the kitchen, was not properly staffed. Apparently one of our two pizzas was initially delivered to the wrong table and it took a good 15+ minutes for the replacement to arrive. The pizzas, when they finally arrived, were delicious and well prepared. The general complaint for myself, and the other people who had pastas in our group was that they were overly salty. The eggplant Parmesan appetizer was rather oddly constructed and somewhat difficult to cut and eat without destroying it. The cheesecake that we had for dessert was creamy and delicious. My Negroni was rather skimpy and the other cocktail we had, the pom-pom daydream was meh. We were seated near the door under the neon lights, which create a nice atmosphere and I liked the use of neon to create a sort of warm glow. I doubt I will be back in Salt Lake City anytime soon, but in the event that I am, I would consider giving them a second try

C

The puffy bread and kale Caesar are very yummy! The pasta was just ok. The shrimp linguine was pretty bad, the flavors were overwhelming. The cheesecake was also ok. Nothing special. The atmosphere is cool and the service was quick and friendly.

The service was incredibly off-putting. I was excited to try this place given the hype. When I asked our server for recommendations, he repeatedly refused to share anything about the menu, saying that then he’d have to go through everything with us and he “wasn’t doing that.” He told us to look at the menu first, and once we did, he made a rude remark that just set the wrong tone. I asked which pasta he liked, hoping to get something helpful, and he said again that he “wasn’t doing this.” I finally asked if there was a server available who would share recommendations, but he didn’t seem to like that. The gelato situation didn’t help either. We tried ordering a few different combinations, and each time they came back to say they were out of one of the flavors. They eventually brought two scoops of a single flavor without checking if that’s what we wanted, but still charged us for two. The food itself really was incredible, and I wanted to love this place, but the attitude and lack of basic hospitality from our server made the whole experience unnecessarily unpleasant. The pasta and the chocolate dessert were the highlights.

Went to this place for the food and the NYT rating and left kinda undecided. Maybe it was because we ordered vegetarian food, most of it seemed underseasoned, and in case of the brocolli rab, undercooked. The Cocktails were good and the puffy bread too. The decor is dimly lit and the atmosphere noisy. So a 3.5 Great wait staff

S
Sejal Patel

It’s been voted one of the top restaurants in the U.S., but for our group, the experience was just okay. The service and ambience were fantastic, but the food was hit or miss. The heirloom tomato salad, house puffy bread, and pizzas were delicious — definitely the highlights. However, the ribs were extremely sweet and chewy, the chicken scarpariello lacked seasoning and came as just a plain dish of chicken with no sides, and the shortcake in our dessert tasted off (hard and baking soda flavor). Overall, not a bad meal — but not sure what qualifies as “top” these days since it really felt like an opinion more than a consistent standard. Great vibe, average food.

After seeing that there was a restaurant gaining recognition from the NYT in Utah my husband and I had to check this place out. After having appetizer, entree, and dessert we can honestly say that this place is not worth the hype. Service was okay. Servers seemed fake and not particularly happy to be there but kept our drinks full. We did have to ask for replacement silverware after our appetizer. Our appetizer was the puffy bread which we actually really enjoyed. It was unfortunately the best bite of our meal. For our entrees we tried the pomodoro and the bolognese pastas. Quite honestly, they were both terrible. The noodles were boiled to death turning them to mush that stuck to our teeth. Sauces were both completely under seasoned. We ordered the pana cotta for dessert and were again disappointed. The dessert was sour and desperately needed sugar. It was served with an orange caramel which was very grainy. Not worth the hype or the money. Salt Lake has other, better Italian restaurants.

Cosmica has to be the most overhyped dining experience I’ve ever had. I was excited to try it after the NYT article gave it such a great review, but was sorely disappointed! Everything was too garlicky and under seasoned. The pasta was over cooked. Nothing we ordered was good and I would not go back.

Food seemed overpriced, and not good. The swordfish was battered, fried and swimming in butter. Looks like a giant chicken fried steak, with a jar of capers emptied on top. And it was very well done. The prosciutto appetizer was literally a large pile of meat on one side of the plate, that tasted like thinly sliced ham cut on a meat slicer, not prosciutto, plus a pile of peppers. An odd presentation, cheap lunch meat taste that is pricey. Parking is very bad in the area. The servers were very friendly and kind.

My husband and I dined at Cosmica with another couple on Oct 27, 2025. Boy, were we all severely disappointed in every aspect of the restaurant! Service was terrible- 3 of our pasta meals came out promptly, but not very hot, but my husbands Pizza came 12 minutes later. And my husbands drink didn't show up until 20 min after our orders were taken, despite being asked about it twice. The food: Substandard in taste and definitely very small portions. I ordered the Maccheroni Alla Genovese. what came was a small bowl that looked like it came from a cafeteria. The dish was mildly warm and the braised meat portion took me a while to find it since it was minuscule (maybe 1 TBSP portion). the dish lacked any flavor (some sherry would have helped). Certainly not worth the $26. we ordered the House puffy bread with Spicy Pomodoro for $18. Great bread but the 6-inch diameter flatbread was extremely small. And prior to our arrival, we received text messages telling us that our visit time would be a max of 1:45 for 4 people. And we felt rushed throughout the entire meal so they could boot us out quickly. I certainly don't know what all the fuss was about. James Beard has certainly dropped their standards with this restaurant.

While the restaurant clearly prioritizes reputation and presentation, the experience itself felt hollow. The dishes were under-seasoned and lacked character, and the service felt cold and mechanical. Our server showed little enthusiasm or presence, which further diminished what should have been a memorable meal. This restaurant should be not listed in the top 50 of the country.
