The McCullough location has the most awesome staff and the food & atmosphere never disappoints!! I've brought other friends here from Texas and Louisiana, and they have also said it's the BEST BURGER! Then after several trips out West, and this last one that was 2 months long, and a trip pluo and diwn the East Coast and back across the South, olIve never found another place that has a burger seasoned this perfectly and Onion Rings!! I'm I ordered my Burgers (at 1100 when they started getting busy on a Friday AM) and it was out in a couple minutes !! Where does this happen?? The burgers have so much flavor!!! Good grief, today I just had the best experience, someone bought me and my Dog Icarus lunch!! Where in this Country does that happen?? Love this place!!
All I can say is that we loved the burgers and the fries! Well worth the money. As for the service... They were fantastic! They actually seemed to work like a tag team and they both were checking if we wanted refills or how the food was etc. We will definitely go back again! I apologize for the picture, I just wanted to taste it before giving it a rating, but after the first bite, I couldn't stop at just one bite! LOL
We were greeted by a friendly hostess. Our waitress was great she served us efficiently and came by our table to check on us. Our food was on" T " Hot and delicious cheese burger and fries. I will definitely go back. I will definitely recommend this place
Food always comes fast fresh and delicious same goes for there margaritas 🍹 all around great food and service thank you
The burger was delicious! This place is a nice change of pace to the usual fast food burger joints. The parking was a little rough to figure out, but it was worth it. You can either park right up front if you get a lucky spot or in the hospital parking lot right behind it on the same block. (They credit you an hour on your bill, if you let them know) We will definitely be frequenting this place from now on.
The fish sandwich is excellent too. Huge, filling!
Randomly walked in there, ordered some burgers for me, and my uncle went outside to go and smoke a cigarette.By the time I knew it, he was coming outside to hamm, my bag awesome
Stopped in last night at about 7 PM. Placed was packed but most of the crowd cleared out by about 8. Burgers were delicious. Tried the jalapeño cheeseburger. The meat tastes fresh and has great flavor. Veggies all tasted fresh as well. Loved the French fries and onion rings. Chicken on the wings tasted great. They also had great flavor. Service was great. Our waiter was polite and checked in on us in regular intervals. Overall great place for a burger, will plan to check it out next time I’m in town again.
Big well cooked burgers and fresh cut fries are what makes this place special. I got a large fries which turned out to be a basket. I’m not complaining because they were very good house made fries. The burgers were well priced and very big with a nice bun. I hope to come back and try their appetizers. Parking is a joke here, just park across the street at little taco factory or go to City Base location.
This place had some really good food. I tried a simple cheeseburger. Ate it right away and forgot the photo this time! Grr.. I want to come back again for the 3lb burger. Will update photos again in future once I complete this task. Staff was great and friendly. Plenty of seating. I like the indoor feel to it with the tvs and random decorations scattered throughout.
This was my first time here and I had no idea they had jumbo burgers! We started off with a small order of fried pickles and it was enough for 3 people super great value. Then on the menu they had Texas sized burgers in 1 & 1/2 pound and a 3 pounder. This was the smaller of the 2 options and the bacon was cooked super crispy but not burned and enough cheese to not take away from the flavor. We left super stuffed!!!!!! Definitely coming back soon.
First time here on 4-11-24. Asked waitresses for her recommendation and customers next to me said the mushroom burger was very good. They were right except I'd say it was absolutely awesome! Service was lightning fast and food was top shelf quality. Fair prices I highly recommend this place!
Was looking for a New Burger place to try so on so many recommendations from work decidedTo give armadillos a try I got to say it did not disappoint burgers were hot and fresh fries and onion rings were crispy and the beer cold ....definitely will be back again good burger place .My daughter got the chicken strips she love them I can honestly say The got a new customer today!!!!!
They have the best fried pickles here. The fact that the burgers are great is just a plus. During this visit, we ordered one giant bacon 🥓 cheeseburger 🍔, one small bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions 🧅 and fried pickles of course. 😋🫶🏼 I have been going here since I was a little kid and now I take my children. The staff is great and the food is fresh.
OMG... That was delicious! Since a friend of mine grew up around San Antonio, I asked him for a good burger place. He told me Armadillos ist the place to go. So we went, and let me tell you, this place was awesome. The prices are fair, and the burgers are really really good. Even the beer prices are fair. I'm not sure when I'm back in the area, but I will come again.
UPDATE... Ok, so my burger was great. This friend and I shared a large fry. Overall great meal. The server was still mostly all business but with moments of a smile. FYI I saw a server help someone with a wheelchair come in and later out the 1st and then 2nd door at the entrance. Kudos. That was service and above. Not as great as I remember Armadillos to be. I might check again to make sure. My hamburger patty was really dry. Waitress was nice and attentive but all business. If you're looking for more, dont. And no handicap parking. None. How is that possible? No real way to get a wheelchair in here either, or that I could see. They have the front parking area by the door marked for curbside pickup. Surprised any business could have that many curbside spaces and no handicapped. I want to try them again to give them the benefit of the doubt on the food. I will look for that handicap space so I can.
We absolutely love this place! The food and service is great. Super easy. Pro Tip: there is overflow parking next to little taco factory for those saying parking is awful.
I had a quarterly meeting today in San Antonio. My husband was looking up places by the Cypress building and we found Armadillos Texas Style Burgers. I was greeted quickly and chose my booth. I ordered in 3 mins. Received my food in 5 mins. This was the fastest service I have ever had. I arrived to my meeting 10 mins early and I was happy and my belly was full. I appreciate the atmosphere, my waitress and the kitchen. Thank yall for a memorable time!!
For a true non-tourist dining experience, Armadillo is one of the best burger joints you MUST try. Giant, flavorful burgers and chicken sandwiches. The service is always great too. Have an amazing burger and leave a BIG tip! Highly recommend! 😋
This was my first visit to Armadillos! The food was super fast to come out on a Friday lunch time. The burgers were thin, but very flavorful! The potato my friend got filler the whole basket! The fries and fries pickles were good and crispy. Their ranch...yum! I even liked their tea! I will be glad to return!
We arrived at this burger place after lunch hour, around 1 pm. I will remark that the lunch hour can get busy here and the parking is limited out in front of the restaurant. There is a parking lot that Armadillos owns, and it is catty-corner from the restaurant, and next to yellow building called the little taco factory. We were greeted, seated in Sandy's section, and she took our drink orders. Two of us ordered the 16 oz Shiner Bock, and one of us ordered the 22 oz Shiner Bock. After the drink orders were brought tonus, Sandy took our dining orders. Two of us ordered the 1/3 lbs hamburger - which comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. The other order was the 1/3 lbs mushroom burger. We decided to share a large order of crispy tater tots. The food was good, the beer was good and cold, and the service was great. They have an outside area, but I did not visit or dine in the area. This place has been around for years. It was formerly known as little hips many years ago. I hope that if you decide to visit that your visit is as good as mine.
I ordered the baked potato with the toppings option (butter, sour cream, cheese). Toppings portion was too small for the potato so I had to order the chili so it wasnt so dry.
The service was quick, and the servers were kind and attentive, they entire team served the tables. There were some elements left off of our order, but we were not charged for them, and they quickly corrected the issue. The buns were perfect: toasted, soft, not too dense. The meat was cooked exactly as ordered, and tasted spot on. The burger was notable and huge, and the vegetables were fresh and crisp; quality was not offset by the quantity. The tator tots were too greasy and filmy, but the chili was exceptional. Price point was congruent with current inflation and gross domestic product for the commodity. Worth the trip.
Serves was fast and friendly. Fried pickles were tasty and fresh out the fryer with a slight spicy kick to them. Burger was tasty and not at all dry. Fries were good, but I was so stuffed from the fried pickles and one pound burger that I couldn't fully enjoy them. Prices were good for what you get. Definitely will be back to try more.
Armadillos is all burger bar. Inside are tvs playing sports, stickers and metal signs across the walls, waitresses in short shorts, and solid burgers. While good, they're not great. They're filling and juicy in a way of being the best possible version of dad's cookout burger. That's not bad at all. The hash browns are really good with a medium basket being large enough for two. Parking is very limited so expect to street park. The service is almost too prompt. Waitresses are always watching and immediately provide service. Better to be attentive, but they risk being overbearing - like how I was asked about a refill twice within 30 seconds. Overall, a solid spot that I'd return to.
Burgers are a little greasy but very tasty. Service is a little lackluster but everybody was chipper. The atmosphere is a little dark in claustrophobic but cozy at the same time. I do feel that this place is for couples and not technically families even though you can come with them.
The food was good and filling. There wasn't anything that really made it stand apart from a burger you'd get anywhere else. The pricing was average and worth the amount you received. Customer service was superb. I feel like the place could use some fixing up but other than that it was a good experience.
Burgers are well seasoned, juicy and filling. Fried pickles are thick and heavily breaded with a spicy blend which gives the perfect texture and crunch. Pickles held up nicely in the fridge after a day or two. Good selection of beverages from water to carbonated to beer and wine. Family oriented inside and out. . .cozy indoor. . .spacious and cool outside seating area.
Good food. A little loud, but fun. Our server was awesome! He was having a bad day, but never showed it. We will return just for the service alone.
Big burgers and good service. Went at an off hour on a Tuesday. Definitely looks like it can be busy at other times. If cops come in to eat it must be good.
Not a bad spot for some quick burgers. First time I tried to visit there was no parking, very few spots in front of the restaurant. I tried the 3lb double Texas size cheeseburger. It was plenty for our family of 4, with leftovers. It is huge. Taste wise I've had better, and was a little salty. Besides that, it was not a bad burger and not a bad deal for $30. Something for everyone to try.
Went for lunch on a weekday. The place was not packed at all but we sat outside by choice. They have picnic tables out there under a large carport. I ordered a Chicken Fried Buffalo sandwich. A little dry for me but it was okay. It came with fries. I'll try something else next time. I also had their Fried Pickles which were pretty good. My husband ordered the burger and our friend had the catfish plate. Portions are large. They were pleased with those dishes. Overall, Service was great!
Disappointing visit. Ordered an appetizer, a burger, and a side. Wings came out at the same time as the burger and fries. By the time I got done eating those, the burger was lukewarm. On the other end of the scale, about a quarter of the fries were burned. The waitress apologized multiple times for the delay on the wings, but no offer was made to compensate for the experience. With Tycoon Flats just up the road, there is no reason to come back here.
Mediocre burgers and very little parking available. I miss early 2000's Longhorns Cafe, those burgers were delicious, unfortunately a good burger is hard to find nowadays.
The burger patty seemed frozen, I was really hoping this was going to be better than it was but the burger was bland and nothing to write home about. The fried pickles were pretty good, my spouse had the chicken sandwich and said it was good. I'll give them another shot sometime but my first experience was definitely not a great one.
The place definitely looks so much better n spacious, even tho its a small place. Sadly it had been easily been prob 6 to 7 yrs since i had been here. We got the medium mushroom burger, the fiesta burger n the chicken burger. The chicken burger was very disappointing ☹️back in the day it was Huge n thick n juicy. Now its smaller n very thin, so its very dry ☹️👎🏻. My dad loved the Fiesta burger but only ate half and it was the medium size but he is a senior. My sister had the mushroom burger and got the medium and thought it was still small. The taste was nothing over the top like it use to be. The tots were crispy the onion rings we didnt like the crumbly breading. We prefer the batter style. After 2 or 3 it made your mouth feel raw and scrapped. The tea was the best part and even that was just reg tea. I really have to also complain about those metal tables. They left your hands smelling like iron. We had to continuously keep cleaning our hands with sanitizer to keep the smell off. Our waitress was super nice no complaints there. I remember this was a place you would always bring family or friends from out of town.... Now it sadly is just another burger joint ☹️😞. Definitely i miss when it was little Hipps
We ordered the 3 pound bacon cheeseburger, and we added avocado and mushrooms. The meat was salty and tasted like the raw meat sat out and reached above room temperature. The home style natural cut fried were awesome. The skin was crispy with the chip being soft, light, and flavorful. Customer service was great. Parking is on the rough side. The only parking we could find was right in front of the restaurant.
First time here tried the wings, burgers, tots, onion rings and chili dog. The wings were pretty good just wished they had more than one flavor. The burger was good. The tots were nice n crunchy. The chili dog was good and huge. I don't eat onion rings but my family loved them. The fries were a weird texture, no flavor, salt etc. Overall a good place to eat. It's Just
Came to Armadillos Texas Style Burgers expecting more, but honestly, it was the food was average. We had 2, 1/3 Bacon cheese burgers both sets of buns were over toated, and the patty was dry. Our hot wings, tater tots, and corn dogs were the hits of the meal. The onion rings were OK, but I felt they were over breaded. Our sever was on top of it she came and checked on us 3 times. The restaurant is very cool with indoor TVs and a small bar. Outside is a large patio area and a projection screen. Lastly I did see how the bathrooms could be handicapped accessible, the hallways to the bathroom are very narrow and used as storage. Someone in wheel chair would have difficulty. (Bathroom inside, I do not know if there is a bathroom on the patio)
Food not too great but service and beer good.
Listen. I LOVE! Armadillos!!! BUT Y'all have got to do something about your bathrooms!! Its only gotten worse and worse. It is ridiculous that I have to hold my breath to go to the restroom because it smells so bad in the whole restroom area. Even outside of the rest room. Today I literally gagged three time, as did my daughter, when I went to use the rr and couldn't hold my breath long enough to wash my hands. I had to take a step out, try to breathe and then hold my breath again to go in and wash my hands after. I love yalls food, but come on. Its getting really hard to justify keeping the problem going this long.
When you walk into an establishment and it smells like mildew, that should be an indication to run. I was hungry and lunch break was winding down so I gave up and tried this burger place over burger boy. Meat was hard you could tell the burger had been sitting for a while waiting on someone to come in. I don’t eat out often in San antonio, but every time I do it’s a disappointment. no one takes pride in their food anymore unless you’re stone oak or some other fancy area. Fries were greasy and so hard couldn’t eat them...
Great customer service for sure. But.... there's a hair in the lemon. Told the server and said manager will look into some discount. But no discount :(. Took leftovers home and noticed another hair embedded in the crust of the fish. Aside from that, the fish and tots were way over breaded. Price wise is good. Medium frozen margarita is huge but lack alcohol.
Did not like the parking it was across the street and at the end of the block - waitstaff was very kind and came back to the table several times to see if we needed anything - placed a small order of fried pickles chips it was enough for two people but they were not my favorite - the chz burger was just alright - I liked the onion rings better than the fries - I over all was not to impressed
Our two burgers were FANTASTIC (AVACADO burger and Jalapeño burger). Great flavors and perfectly cooked! The issue was with the sides... I had sweet potato fries and my son had tots. BOTH had a strong after - taste, which tasted like bad or old /rancid oil. Now, an hour later, it's even worse.... Both of us will need to take something for the upset stomachs. This very easily could have been a 5 Star review! Disappointing.....
Myself and a buddy dropped in before a a Tuesday night concert downtown. I ordered the chicken fried chicken dinner. It was awful... a thinly, way overly breaded piece of chicken. It was dripping hot oil and over cooked. I tried my best to eat it because I was hungry, but I abandoned it after a few minutes. Sad.
Happy Hour. Live within blocks. Looking forward to trying happy hour and burgers. Sad to say, nothing special. Very few people in there. No greeting, just stare at you. If I didn’t say hi, there’d be no conversation. Why is it so hard to say Welcome and with a smile. Don’t you want to feel wanted. You need to hire good happy people. They’re out there. You might have to pay a little more but you’ll get so much in return. The greeting always sets the stage. No or bad greeting, all down hill. Happy Hour not worth the visit. Ordered Burger with fries. He, not a lot of social skills. Brings me tater tots. Said I ordered fries. He said he heard taters. Waiting for him to replace never happened. Server did not want to work or be there. Very obvious. I won’t return. Burger nothing special. Whataburger much much better. FYI. Wow the customer. You won’t be wanting for business
The chicken fried steak was not very taste but my husband’s burger was good. We also bought a baked potato for my dad and asked for the condiments to be separate. They were mixed into 1 small cup.
Just picked up food from there. The fish was not cooked all the way. The cornmeal batter is still raw. The fries are old & cold. The fish itself is a generous portion, too bad it's a waste. My son's chicken strips are hard enough to knock somebody out. Thanks for helping me to waste my money.
The experience and food quality has definitely went down over the past few years, we went in with great beliefs that we're in for a good meal that would satisfy but sadly was met with the exact opposite. Recently went with a party of 6 and ordered 2 starters of fried pickles and armadillo eggs, a variety of burgers, chicken fried chicken, and chicken fried steak. The fried pickles were sufficient but nothing to write home about (not a lot of seasoning on breading) and the armadillo eggs were as if you made budget microwave nachos with sliced cheese (mini fried corn tortilla with a jalapeno slice blanketed with a square slice of Swiss and a smaller square slice of cheddar.... Made to look like an egg 🥚) don't get me wrong we've all experienced the struggle at some point but was not expecting it from a restaurant that we are paying customers to. From the burgers we had 2 bacon cheeseburgers and 1 chili cheese burgers. Bacon was overcooked and chili was something that was lacking in flavor & cheese was forgotten. Now the chicken fried chicken and steak (yes I know getting something OTHER than burgers at a burger joint is kinda naive but if it's there lets try it) was so lackluster barely any seasoning in the breading and meat on both of the plates. I do wanna say that our waiter was good, they were attentive to our drinks (sweet tea) and checked up on us once so I do appreciate that very much. In no way is this review a reflection on our waiter. We left with much of our entrees uneaten and/or picked over and leaving us to find something else to eat somewhere else.
It smelled like sewer as soon as we walked in 🤢. After checking other reviews, it’s clear this issue has been going on for a while. I only stayed because my boyfriend likes this place and wanted me to give it a try, but I could barely focus on the food and just wanted to leave. I didn’t tell him why but I told him to please never take me here again. Definitely disappointed. 🤢🤢🤢
The food is fine but the restaurant is filthy. As soon as you grab the door handle to go in you can feel it's slippery with grease. The condiment bottles on the table are completely sticky. Pretty gross considering it's a place where you eat with your hands.
