Ashley is the most fantastic bar tender. She was extremely attentive and accommodating to our requests. Ashley went the extra mile to make sure we had the best possible experience for our first time at MadDogs. Never once did my water or drink run dry. The fish and chips was excellent and the tartar sauce was the best I have ever had. I definitely will be back when I’m at the river walk next!
Plenty of TVs, great pub atmosphere, and great seating along the Riverwalk. Staff were great, appropriately attentive, and friendly. Although I did hear them complaining about someone's tip (maybe justified). The food came quickly and everything was reasonably priced. Most of all, I enjoy the decor. It felt much like a pub should. It would have been great if they had played a bit more Irish music rather than club style music. Once the live music started, that was much better. If you're looking to sit down and have great pub style, food and a great atmosphere, this is your place.
I love this place - it never disappoints. I usually get their burgers, but tonight I felt like a chicken Caesar salad, which was delicious! My husband and I sang karaoke and won $5 and $3 drinks for everyone, which made us very popular! I actually found a Mad Dog kilt at a Goodwill and had to wear it here! It’s big on me due to my weight loss! Thanks Mike and staff for a memorable evening! ❤️
We went here to listen to my good friend, Jason Brown, perform and was surprised by the food and atmosphere. The service did start off a little slow when we first got there, but greatly improved after we got out order taken. We ordered the Scottish Eggs and Ragin' Cajun Salad 2x. We also got a dirty and cucumber martini, and 3 orders of the wheat mango beer. All perfect and we will definitely go back!
Had a great experience. Was out on the town one night looking to grab a nice craft beer. Was greeted and approached by a very friendly hostess while I was browsing the menu and insisted I go in. I said okay and it was wonderful. Very packed and friendly with a band. I Sat at the bar and miss Gabriella was probably the best service bartender I’ve had in years. If you sit at the bar definitely ask for her. Very professional and made my experience a delight by her conversations and knowledge of the establishment. The beer was cold and the staff was friendly even the band shouted me out! I highly recommend this place , they even have food for the whole family. My new go to spot
They had a ton of tasty items on the menu! There are a lot of drink options and some good desserts as well! It’s a unique change of pace to get some British food here in the States! The servers were all very kind and they even have a bouncer which was nice to see for everyone’s security. It’s right next to the river and it was so tranquil and serene to eat here outside!
Attentive welcoming, on December 20th. Food was very good. Sea salt cheesecake was exceptionally good. Great selection of beers, wait staff was on point. Vibe was really good. I’m surprised how great our visit was, considering most places along the Riverwalk are touristy and average. Managerial staff were visible, and did inquire as to the food and service. I’m inclined to recommend this place.
Stopped at Mad Dogs on the Riverwalk and loved the whole vibe. We snagged a table right by the water — perfect for people-watching — and the live 90s rock sealed the deal (hello Tom Petty & STP!). Our server, Yella, was adorable in her plaid skirt and took great care of us. Tried their famous fish & chips but swapped the fries for mashed potatoes. The potatoes were chunky and mild, but the fish? Outstanding. Crispy outside, tender and flaky inside, and one huge piece was plenty for both of us before our flight. Would absolutely come back!
Jackie at MadDogs in San Antonio is absolutely top-tier. From the moment you sit down, she makes you feel welcome and taken care of. Super friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and clearly knows her stuff. Drinks were on point, service was fast, and she kept the vibe fun the whole time. You can tell she genuinely cares about the customers and the experience. If you’re at MadDogs, do yourself a favor and ask for Jackie she makes the place that much better
We had such a great time at Mad Dogs! The atmosphere was fun, and Faith was absolutely amazing. She was so friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. If you stop by, definitely ask for Faith. She’s the best! Faith — keep making that bread! 💰🙌 We’ll definitely be back!
I had a very enjoyable experience at this authentic British pub. The food was really good and the atmosphere was pretty cool. The music was perfect ( in my humble opinion! ) My server Jackie was/is a doll!...she provided excellent customer service and was very attentive. She included a very small personal touch that didn't go unoticed. I'll definitely return the next time I visit.
My girlfriend and I had the best time at Mad Dog on the Riverwalk Saturday night. We sat at the bar with Jackie as our bartender. She was excellent and took the time to make a a unique martini drink with prosecco. Jackie made our night perfect.
This place was such a vibe. The food, the atmosphere was awesome. The best part was the customer service I received by Ashley. Its rare to get good customer service and she definitely exceeded in customer service! She was very attentive, outgoing and overall just amazing! will be checking out this place again due the great customer service! Thank you Ashley!
I will do my best to express the awesome experience Esteban the bartender gave me and my 3 time ex wife. This guys is awesome at what he does, very interactive, very knowledgeable and very personable. He really makes this place mad dogs a true pub. We are from Victoria Texas and will make our way to mad dogs every time we are in town. Thanks Esteban, you are a legend. Serna was nice and cute too ! We will definitely be back.
I’ve been coming to Mad Dogs for 3 years or so. My favorite bar/restaurant on the river walk. Great atmosphere, food, drinks and servers. Pets are welcome. Most people too 😜. The staff is great. Had a great time with the servers at the lower bar tonight. Jackie & Ishel are amazing. Friendly with great smiles. See you next time
Fantastic pub. The best staff I have ever encountered in any pub anywhere in the world. Faith found my lost phone for me which I had left in an Uber … nothing was too much trouble for this Angel of a girl. Ashley was our other server as well and she is also fantastic. The manager Jeremy was amazing in allowing his staff to spend time with us to find my lost iphone. Beer is wonderful as well. Great views over the Riverwalk. The premium choice when ever you visit San Antonio Riverwalk. If I could leave 10 stars I would.
We came here to eat fish and chips and it did not disappoint! The fish filet was massive and so good! The fries were really good as well. The coleslaw had zero flavor, so wasn't a fan of that. The atmosphere was fun and they had a live band! I would def come back to eat here again.
Had a great time having some well made drinks and delicious food while enjoying live music. The song line up was right up our alley (my husband and I are in our 40s from a small country town just for reference) and the staff were all very welcoming and attentive. They probably could have used one more waiting staff, we went on a Sunday, so that's probably why, maybe they staff differently say on a Friday or Saturday night? But our waiter was literally running from area to area to keep up with the need. ( He did phenomenal). Overall we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
A great choice along the Riverwalk! The elevated seating area gives you a perfect view of the river and makes for some top-tier people-watching (yes, it’s definitely fun). It was nice and quiet when we visited, which made for a super relaxing experience. The menu is simple but offers something for everyone. The portions are generous—especially the appetizers. I ordered tacos from the appetizer section, and they were easily a full meal on their own. 🤤 Definitely a spot I’d visit again!
If you are walking the Riverwalk and need a break from the heat (and the Tex-Mex), Mad Dogs is the place to be. My partner Stacey and I grabbed a table on the terrace, and honestly, you can’t beat the location for people-watching and soaking in the energy of the Riverwalk. The atmosphere is fantastic—lively, fun, and just the right amount of loud. The staff really leans into the theme (kilts and all!), and they were cracking jokes and keeping the service fast despite how busy it was. As for the food, the Fish & Chips were the real deal—crispy batter, flaky fish, and piping hot. I washed it down with a cold draft beer, which tasted amazing after walking the river all afternoon. For the Photographers: The terrace here offers one of the best vantage points for getting those classic Riverwalk shots without fighting the crowds on the sidewalk. Sit back, enjoy a pint, and get your photos while you relax. #SanAntonioRiverwalk #MadDogsPub #FishAndChips #SanAntonioEats #TravelPhotography #RiverwalkViews #BritishPub
Had a great Reuben at Mad Dogs. Well cooked, good bread, nice corned beef, good thousand island. If I nit pick...maybe need a little stronger sauerkraut. The location is great and nice to sit outside on the Riverwalk. Found it weird they were out of their "signature dish" fish and chips for lunch so that was disappointing. Overall a great place to stop in San Antonio on the Riverwalk.
Had so much fun! Great food with great people. Thank you for being open on one of the coldest nights of us visiting. It was our 30th Anniversary and you did not disappoint!
Great spot. Food was fantastic. Fish and chips were very good. Drinks and service were great. Soda tasted a little weird but otherwise awesome spot!
Sabrina did a great job taking care of us. It was our first time there. I went with my friend and her kids to check it out. We love the food and had a wonderful time together. It’s right on the river, got to see ducks and pretty scenic views along the way. Would definitely recommend it. 😁
This place was one of the best dog friendly bars I’ve found. Came in Xmas eve and the whole staff was fantastic shoutout to Jacqueline who was our bartender who got us dinner. You all looked fantastic in the Xmas sweaters. Food was great, atmosphere great, our dogs loved it
We brought our large group and had the best service from Ashley S!! She did a stellar job making sure we had everything we needed. She pays attention to all the details!!! And she was so sweet to talk with- even visiting with my youngest daughter for a while making everyone feel welcome! Definitely request Ashley as your waitress!!! The atmosphere was superb. We were seated right along the riverwalk (although indoor seating was available). All the food from burgers to fish and chips to drinks was delicious! 10/10 recommend!

It was a hot day by the river but this place is excellent! Especially our waitress ASHLEY (phenomenal) and the hostesses. They were so friendly, ready to help and our experience was lovely. Fun place, good food, good people, good drinks!
It’s a pub, with great live music and really attentive staff. They were very friendly and did their best to accommodate my toddler, giving her pineapple juice and turning down the speakers of the live music for her without us asking for it. It was still too loud though, and they were kind enough to box up our incoming food for us and let us pay early. I love that so much, and the food was great!

Our server was great but the kitchen was a little slow. Baked potato soup was great. Cod Fish filet sandwich was ok. The signature Longhorn steak and ale pie was lacking on the steak and ale stew (2.5 little cubes of meat) and over cooked on the puffy layered pastry part. The bread pudding was awesome
Food was average. Fish and chips were the best thing we ordered, also had spinach artichoke dip and a chicken sandwich. Service was fair because she forgot our drinks, didn’t get the order right, and never came to check on us. Waitress seemed newish so she still got a good tip. The view was what we were there for.
Mad dogs es super busy and super fun. The staff was excellent. Fish n chips and the wings were super yummy and great drink specials . We will go back .
The pizza was the bombs 🔥 The pot pie was delicious The chicken sandwich that I had was not very appetizing. 😪 But when we come back, we will try other things 🙏

We just happened upon this place as we strolled the Riverwalk. It wasn’t busy, and we were seated immediately. I don’t think the hostess told the waitress she had seated us in her section so it did take a short bit before we were acknowledged. However, when our waitress (Faith) saw us, she apologized about the wait. She was a fabulous server, personable, kind and appreciative. We just had a couple of cocktails and lunch: chicken tenders and fish and chips. Quite tasty. I have NEVER ordered fried fish before anywhere. I have no idea what prompted me to order it, but it was a very good choice. This was a totally unplanned stop on our trip, but it was probably our favorite. We experienced so many rude restaurant staff on the Riverwalk—to the point we don’t want to go back. But the staff at Mad Dogs—especially Faith—were great. Thank you!!

First time at this establishment. Nice area on the River walk, atmosphere is perfect and theres tables inside as well as outside. Very good music and Good service. I ordered a BLT sandwich my bacon was burned. I didn't care for it at all. My daughter order chicken strips, also kind of over cooked. My husband orders a Reuben sandwich, he really enjoyed it. Johana was our waitress, shout to her for wonderful service . I will go back and try them again.
Ambiance was truly stellar, and yes you get to keep your glass. However, we missed the keep your glass part and it was nearly $25 dollars for one drink. Also, all the beers on tap were generic. For a British Pub I went there expecting an english ale and was disappointed that there were none. Staff generally friendly.
We hit this spot for dinner on game night - it was buzzing. Got the flatbread and veg burger with sweet potato fries. Flatbread needed more crisp. Burger lacked lettuce/greens. Service was solid - funny greeter wanted to make biryani someday and the waiter was friendly too. Definitely worth a try.

First restaurant we tried on the River Walk and it was disappointing. We sat at an outdoor table for about 10 minutes, watching uniformed staff casually chatting without paying attention to us. I eventually flagged down the gentleman who was calling in customers. He joked that we were in his “blind spot” (the owner would understand what he meant). Once we finally received service, things were acceptable. Food and drinks were decent. However, one important issue was that the wheelchair lift was out of order, meaning there was no accessibility for wheelchair users to enter the restaurant, not ideal.

Theodore, the manager, told me to stop taking pictures since it made people working there uncomfortable even though I was finished and editing. I have taken pictures of the staff of restaurants all over the country with no problems. Between this and rude dismissal at Prost, the owner of these restaurants should be concerned since they are a horrible experience. The only good part was Leslie, who was a really hard-working bartender at Mad Dogs.
If there would be a way of giving this place lower than one star, id absolutely do so. I understand as a minor, there’s limits to the presence of us being in areas like this. When we came in earlier, me and my brother had gotten our hands marked because we were minors (which of course, is completely understandable) While we were here, we had ONLY ordered Pepsi and Dr Pepper (this is important for later). We were minding our business, watching the MNF Rams game, just being casual. The SAME person who marked us with sharpie earlier, DOUBLE marks the X he made on our hands (photo marked below) after clearly knowing he had marked us earlier in the front of the establishment. Later, one of the employees were calmly telling us we had to move to a different part of the establishment at 10:30, because where we were was limited off (which we complied, was understandable). AFTER we move to a different area of the pub, we only got to sit for 5 minutes before the same person who marked us with sharpie was kicking us out. Why? Because of an incident that happened earlier with other minors. What’s this incident you might think? Underage drinking! Going back to earlier, we made it EXTREMELY CLEAR we only had Dr Pepper and Pepsi. Hell, while our dad was defending us, even our waitress was on our side. It doesn’t even end there. To rub salt on the wound, he had us escorted out like we were criminals of sorts. Lesson learned ladies and gentlemen, if you have soda drinking minors with you in San Antonio, and so happen to come upon here, carry on, more than likely this similar situation will occur.
Went there last weekend and it was horrible!!! Hostess was amazing she let me know they were full capacity and there was only standing room. When I came back and I got seated I waited over 20 minutes to be attended too. When I was finally attended my server genieve was okay with her service. She was nice but not very helpful with anything. Whilst sitting there I overheard one of the managers speaking to an employee in an outrageous way. Don’t know if that’s how they are but it didn’t sound like the employee enjoyed the conversation. I wouldn’t come back due to the fact that they treat people a certain way just cause their workers! Other than that love karaoke feel like it was fun and food was 7-10
Tried this place a couple of years ago..vibe was good, service was good and as far as I could remember, so was the food. Tonight it was my wife's bday so after a whole week of working in Dallas...we decided to spend the night in San Antonio. We decided to go to this location again as we were pleased last experience we had. Upon arriving...hostess completely ignored us...there was an upbeat individual walking you to your table. He said"Go Ahead and pick a seat" we picked one with a great view and when I asked if I could sit there...a manager told me that those seats were for bigger tables and if I could check out another table instead. We did(even though we did NOT WANT THAT SEAT). Moments later, a party of TWO GUYS took the same table we were at and just separated the seats like I said I would do and just sat down. I asked the manager what was up with that.. and he played it off like it was nothing. I explained that moments earlier, he had told us to move ..he just ignored the comment and said, "What do you want me to do?!" I will NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS SORRY EXCUSE FOR AN ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN!!!! If you want to enjoy any special time with your family or a loved one DO NOT COME HERE! !!! WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GIVE A LOWER Rating !!!
We ordered a Corona and a mango martini it was $25.00 , scenery was good service was slow about 20 minute wait for two drinks , the most disturbing thing is after we left and went on a tour boat ride of the river we overheard the management tell a disabled person. In a wheelchair if the could not walk up the stairs they would not be served so this person had to get out of their wheelchair and with assist of about 4 family members he had to walk up about 20 stairs , I'm proud of the man as he looked like he had cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy and he managed to get up those stairs to prove a point to that management team and the staff stood by and watched and offered no assistance to them for this I will not recommend this restaurant. Response to the restaurant Response: I would believe you if we had not been standing at the bottom of the stairs observing this situation and the family was complaining Outl loud as they were assisting their family member up the stairs along with some choice words from the disabled person towards your staff and management and we can verify there was no offer of a chair assist/lift to them your staff has misinformed you, sometimes it is difficult to correct your staff however I am a witness to the mistreatment of that person in my opinion , I hope the servers upstairs treated them better once they arrived to their table and their food should have been discounted!
What a horrible experience. I don't often write 1 star reviews, but I'll make an exception for an experience where I have absolutely no desire to come back. A romantic Riverwalk experience is the wrong expectations for Mad Dogs. That should've been obvious by the uniforms the staff wear. They're really going for bar maiden rather than any sort of decency. We sat outside in hopes to enjoy the Riverwalk atmosphere, but Mad Dogs seemed to actively work to destroy this. Right next door is a lovely jazz band playing where the patio can here it, but inside and just outside at Mad Dogs, they blast horrible music and have huge sports games. The music was a stark contrast with what was going on next door and hearing them both was quite unpleasant. Then at 9pm their musicians started blasting their own music and we new we had to leave soon. There was no warning that this would start within 35 min when we were offered our table. Sitting right next to us there was a man smoking a cigar right next to us, which was frequently leaving a stinging odor as we waited. That didn't add to the atmosphere we were looking for. We ordered a Texas Chili Mac burger and the soup, which the waitress tried to order, but found was sold out. Fine, but usually you'd be told what is sold out before being asked what you'd like. So we switched to the Longhorn Steak and Ale pie. And we waited for about 20 minutes before our waitress coming to tell us they're all out of that pie as well! So we changed to the Cottage Pie as a last ditch option, when we really should've left. Surprisingly 5 minutes later our order is out. The food was hot and the Cottage Pie was decent. The burger was inedible. It was quite obviously sitting under a heat lamp for those 25 minutes. (Ironic because it was cool enough outside that a heat lamp would've been nice on the patio.) It made the top bun crispy while the bottom was soft. The meat was poorly cooked and also dry. The rest of the toppings were such an afterthought they detracted from a dry overcooked patty. The Mac and cheese were in such low quantity that I thought they forgot them. When I brought up how the burger was so bad I didn't want to eat it, our waitress just offered to discount it. Apparently that didn't mean remove it or make it right, but instead give $1.90 off the price. Which ended up being about half the credit card fee I didn't see posted. Mad Dogs was really an affront to all 5 senses.
DO NOT RECOMMEND! Staff was inattentive. Sat down, no service, not offered a drink after a few minutes waiting and very few people in the restaurant. We were passed by several servers literally moving chairs. Bartender, Jackie, was rude, rolled her eyes and made a comment to a server as we were leaving. We were only addressed when we got up to leave the restaurant. It was painfully obvious we were not welcomed in this restaurant. Would like to speak with corporate office regarding my experience tonight.
Terrible food and very slow service. We got the Scotch eggs, they were 90% crust. Then we ordered the cottage pie. Pulled off the top layer and there was maybe 2 tablespoons of filling. Had to send it back. We had to wait a full 1/2 hour just to pay for the appetizer and beverages. No refills offered during the time there either.

I don’t often leave bad reviews, however, the service we received was particularly poor at Mad Dogs. When we arrived we were told to sit anywhere we would like so we chose a nice table outside to enjoy the riverwalk. In my opinion the table we chose was likely in a blind spot for servers, but I do not think that warrants the mediocre service we received. We ordered a drink from our waitress, received it, and then seemingly got ignored by her for the next 20 minutes. This was particularly disappointing because we wanted to order more and instead of being approached again we watched our waitress stand around, not even engaging with other guests, for a lot of it. After the second attempt to flag her down as she passed us failed we eventually resorted to flagging down a different server to order another drink and some fries. It took another several minutes for our server to reappear to ask what we would like to order. In total we interacted with 4 different servers and the 3 who weren’t assigned to serve us did a better job than our original girl. If dining on the riverwalk please consider dining elsewhere. As for Mad Dogs, y’all should consider removing the table to the left of the stairs closest to the river as I believe this blind spot issue greatly contributed to our poor experience.
