It's almost like a hole-in-the wall but once inside you'll be glad you stopped! The atmosphere is definitely some stereotypical Chinese restaurant atmosphere with a Koi tank, a long sushi/alcohol bar, and decorations. Very clean though, not crowded and comfortable. We went during the beginning of lunch and were sat promptly. Our server initially only had us, but picked up 2 more tables with no issue. Absolutely excellent service! Very attentive and didn't have to ask him for anything, he was on top of it all! Lunch prices are very fair and you still get a lot of food for the money. I got the sesame chicken on the lunch menu. Came out very hot (so be careful at first) with just the right amount of rice and an egg roll. We also got the egg drop soup which I'm told was perfect. Didn't have to wait long on the check, but he did check with us first to make sure we were good to go. Two of us for lunch with the soup and 2 lunches entrees were about $25. Definitely plan on going again!

We ordered sha-cha chicken and broccoli beef with Uber Eats. The food arrived quickly and was still hot upon receipt. Both dishes were Texas sized (each was enough for at least 2 meals) and both were quite delicious. We will probably go to the restaurant next time.

I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally got my chance. It was well worth it, great service and food. There were great meals options and specials. Great Happy hour as well. Looking forward to the next visit!

Good Chinese food overall. Although the hot and sour soup and the pork buns were bland, the rest of the meal picked up from there. The General Tso's chicken and the chicken in black bean sauce were well spiced and delicious. They also gave generous portions.

Ok, my wife and i were looking for a chinesse food restaurant closer to the airport and decided to give this one a try. It has a lot of parking, and i guess because of the time it was not that packed, 9pm friday night. As you come in, it looks pretty nice, kind of like a chinesse chilis, a drink bar, a tv with the news, a tv with a footbal game and another with a show, and the tables are well acomodated. It took the waiter a little bit to show up, handed the menus, we told him it was our first time there so he could recommend a plate, nothing, asks for the drinks and after 3 minutes he comes back ready to take the order. I told him to give us a couple of minutes more, as i was undecided on what plate to try. I was going to order a plate but we decided to go with the dinner for two. Waiter comes back, and we ordered the dinner for two, but wanted to make a change on the plates, and the waiter says, No, you can only change one plate !... with an attitude, my wife then says, ok, but here on the menu reads you can pay the difference, and he said no you have to get what says there, showing no empathy. My wife then orders the original plates weve decided and tells him, this is our first time here, at least you could tell us in a different way. After waiting for not too long, he brings the plates, really nice hot food, excellent taste, but when it got cold, taste kind of faded. Waiter did not showed up at the table after delivering the plates to see if we were doing fine, until i gave a loud sip to my drink so he could hear it to give me a refill, then i asked for the check. Food was good, service not so good, atmosphere is nice. Price on our plates not too expensive. Not sure if will come back later.

First time. Granddaughters 18th birthday. 7 in party one under 15. The griller/cook was friendly and nice but had inappropriate adult jokes for children. The food was good but it took too long in between servings. 1st rice, than it took 10 minutes for shrimp. Another 10 to 15 for steaks than another 10-15 minutes for chicken. So couldn't eat everything at once and by the time chicken was served rice was cold. Won't recommend.

Went today for lunch. Ordered the basil chicken which was good but contained too many fillers like peppers, onions, mushrooms, which reduced the amount of protein in the dish. The egg roll was good. Some dishes are overly soaked in sauce, making them more like a soup than a lunch plate. The waitress never came back to refill the ice tea. We had to get up and pour ourselves refills from the pitcher. The restaurant was once nice on the inside. That was 20 years ago. It desperately needs major renovations and cleaning. At least get rid of the nasty, dirty, and stained wall to wall carpeting.

First time and definitely my last. We experienced the worst customer service from Mike. The food was not at all what I was expecting. I ordered the sesame chicken and it was drowned with sweet sauce I couldn’t even eat it. The rice was acceptable. The rest of the food was acceptable for my family. The atmosphere was okay. The place could use a good cleaning.

If it currently wasn’t rush hour traffic, I would be en route to give them back the entire order… Ordered extra crispy sesame beef but whatever this is, is like cardboard jerky drenched in a weird soy/orange cornstarch sauce. The “fried rice” looks like steamed rice with soy sauce stirred in. My kids can’t even chew the sweet and sour chicken, it’s like rocks coated in batter. And we don’t know if we got chow mein or lo mein because we never received an itemized receipt, but these noodles look like straight pasta tossed in soy….

Food is good and you get good portions but everyone that works here is rude. They don’t greet you, and they don’t thank you. I was placing my order in person and someone talking very loudly on the phone came in rushing behind me trying to talk to the same person that was taking my order while I was still ordering. Then I waited for my food and she was still trying to pay for her order when I was still signing my receipt. Take care of one customer at a time. Then Im waiting for my order and they kept calling me lady. That’s not my name. They should have taken my name for my order. The only reason we come here is because there are hardly any decent Chinese food restaurants anymore on this side of town. Then my order is ready and the short man in front is laughing at me because I’m trying to double check that my order is correct so I didn’t have to drive all the alway back which I have had to do before. Then the hot food was ready but I had to wait almost 10 minutes for my sushi roll. There wasn’t even a lot of people in the dining area. It seems like if you are going to come here it’s better to eat here. I guess they like tips and only work for tips. Then as Im leaving i dont get a thank you or see you next time. There probably won’t be a next time thats why Im guessing.

Spent over $50 on two orders of walnut shrimp. Paid an extra $5 for lo mein and fried rice. Everything was dry and overcooked. Inedible. The lo mein and fried rice was just rice or noodle in soy sauce no vegetables. Absolutely the worst food I’ve eaten in San Antonio. Literally choose anywhere else. Should have known it was bad when I showed up for my take out order and the restaurant smelled like koi fish aquarium. Dog food.

I warned the staff and management that my daughter has a severe egg allergy. Despite this, she was served food that caused a serious allergic reaction. When she told them what was happening, staff dismissed her and said she was “making it up.” When I called the restaurant to report the incident, the manager was rude, made excuses, and hung up on me. Their handling of this situation was careless and negligent. Food allergies are life-threatening, and this restaurant failed to take proper precautions to protect a customer’s health. I will be reporting this incident to the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District for investigation.

STEALING FROM CUSTOMERS overcharging credit cards! I have been coming to Formosa Garden for lunch 1- 2 times a month, sometimes more, for over a year now. Last month I noticed on my CC statement they had overcharged me adding on more of a tip. I brought my receipt and statement to the restaurant, asked for the manager and when I showed him the proof, I asked him what I should do about this? His response was he didn't do it, he's not responsible, it is the servers. I asked him if he was the manager and he said yes!! Well, the servers work for you??? You manage the restaurant! He again refused to take responsibility saying he doesn't run the credit cards, the servers do. Well, manager, someone looks at the books each night/next day and they're supposed to prevent servers and the restaurant from stealing from customers! He looked at it and said he would credit me the difference. I told him that wasn't good enough. Stealing from a customer and only offering to refund the difference is not corrective action. What should a customer do when a restaurant steals from them? He said there is nothing else he can do. I reiterated to him that wasn't good enough and as I got up to walk out he said,,, I can't give you free food! I never asked for free food. Sounds like a call to the BBN is in order since the management is only interested in returning funds to make it go away since they got caught and not paying a penalty or showing any kind of quality customer service.

Well here we are with a reservation family of 14 people hibachi dinner on a Sunday afternoon. Booked this place 2 weeks ahead. Our chef Shamu did not have a runner/server for the event, said he was short staffed. We asked the manager Leo for some help as we sat for over an hour and only had our soup. Forgot to give us our appetizer and salad as part of our meal. Drinks running low so I had to refill everyone's drinks and run to the bar to ask for another round. We also had no one to clear our table and had to physically clean/clear our eating space ourselves and put dishes in the busser container. This place lacks attention to staff and detail. Our salads came drowned in water, our fried rice was overcooked and yet this was supposed to be a family birthday celebration. 2 hours in and we are barely getting started on our actual meals. 16 staff standing around in the main dining hall, bartender was on his phone, and the place hardly has any tables of customers to attend to and no one could be bothered to come help. Kudos to the chef for doing the best he could but without any assistance from staff or management, this place is not worthy of a revisit.

Not a great experience but, branded names don't usually really get around to changing much. My friend asked to join him, I had never been and was really looking forward to trying. As soon as we approached the hostess desk...a complete and blank look in the young lady's face. No welcome, no formal greeting. You can clearly tell, she's just got a job to do and punch out! Fortunately for us, our waiter was awesome! Very attentive and "cool!" Thanks Ray Villarreal! The food was just like every other place to pick up and head home. In other words "Nothing to see here, Just a plate of Lemon Chicken!" Hey, it may have been"One of those days!' I'm ready to try again and edit the review!
