It feels like you've been invited to a friend's house for dinner when you go to Mama's Cafe. The menu is refreshingly different, the servers are really interested in your satisfaction and the whole experience feels handcrafted-- not corporate or rushed. Very unassuming and thoroughly enjoyable.
How did I miss Mama's Cafe on Nacogdoches Rd? So accessible. It's only ten minutes from my apartment. We have eaten at Mama's at other locations. In fact, many times in UC before they closed. This restaurant has a good western atmosphere patronized by a variety of customers of all ages. Really liked their display of branding irons, chaps, hats, & boots. Mama's serves a breakfast menu , along with meals for lunch & dinner. If you are looking for comfort food, it's here. For breakfast, I ordered "A Helluva Mess." It was! All the items were stacked on top of the other - over easy eggs, sausage gravy, sausage pattie, hash browns, & toast. Very tasty & filling. Home-made pattie was especially good, as well as their coffee. The service was excellent. Only recommendation. Trim your tree in front. It's blocking your road sign.
Xavier our Waiter was one of the best , all their staff treats you like you are entering their home for a good meal. Even during the lunch rush the comfort and warm hospitality goes a long way. This place cares about making sure you are taken care and thank you to all the awesome cooks for always putting love and care into what they make. If you are a local or here visiting San Antonio please stop on by .
The food was amazing, hospitality was excellent, and we loved our visit. Pablo is the best❗️He had great energy, very courteous, knowledgeable, and he made our first visit exceptional. The blackened Catfish was made to perfection, the collard greens with ham pieces was delightful with cheesy Mac n cheese and a delicious Lavender Lemon Drop was my meal/drink of choice. I enjoyed everything!
This is a place that had been on my radar for some time. My husband and I were staying close so we decided to finally give it a try. Everything we had was amazing. My husband and I are big foodies and we are definitely planning to come back. I got the pancake breakfast and my husband got the steak and eggs. The biscuit was amazing and the plates were ordered were delicious.
Great place for breakfast and lunch. I ordered the “papas breakfast” and it was amazing 🤤😋 the pancakes were delicious and the chicken friend steak was perfect with a really good gravy. My wife ordered the chicken avocado (not a sandwich) with fries and Mac. it had all the flavor we like the Mac is very safe but still delicious. The place also has very friendly and attentive staff, they’re are in a really good mood and happy to help.
The food here is SO GOOD! The staff was friendly and the place is super cool. Tons of old memorabilia, great outdoor seating, just all around very homey. I went here for breakfast on my birthday and they even gave me a dessert. Highly recommend this place if you want a nice breakfast spot!
The food is always good here. I've never had anything I didn't enjoy. Breakfast is especially good and the mixed drinks are also very yummy. Service is always flawless!
I have been to this location many times and every time I go i have such a wonderful experience. Today was no exception our server Xavier had the best attitude and was extremely attentive. He made our breakfast even better by maintaining the best customer service throughout our meal. The food was superb as always and our latte was magnificent. High recommend this location.
Mama's Cafe delivered a lunch experience that left us thoroughly satisfied. The warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with welcoming staff, set the stage for a delightful meal. Our server's recommendations hit the mark, and the chicken fried steak, despite a slightly heavy batter, proved to be a winner. The sides, made with fresh vegetables, added to the overall goodness. Dessert was a sweet finale, with warm chocolate cake complemented by vanilla ice cream. Looking forward to returning for dinner – Mama's Cafe has earned a repeat visit.
We went there for the first time, and our server was Isabel. She was great, she was polite with a smile on her face, and she had a great attitude. She was serving as if it was her calling, so when you go there, ask for her.♥️🙏🏼💯🔥
Wow! What a cafe should be. My first visit and I felt welcomed. The staff was on spot, friendly, proficient. The food was excellent, the right mix of flavor, texture, and portion. The noise level was just right. Parking was plentiful. Mama's was a great recommendation.
I had the Chilaquiles verdes and an Iced americano, my husband had the skirt steak. Everything was amazing!!! I didnt had high expectations but the food was really great, i need to give them 5 stars. Would definitely Comeback!
It was our first time there we had to go to that side of town and wanted to try something new. The wait wasn’t that long and everyone was very nice. The only thing is my husband doesn’t like bacon and asked for a sausage substitute after asking the waitress if that was ok and she said yes we still didn’t get the sausage he still got bacon instead. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Update 6/17/25; This place is still amazing. Food and service has been excellent. So glad to see this place back open. More importantly the previous owner, Cappy, is back to opening/running this restaurant. Food was delicious and was I finally able to get my wife to eat mushrooms. Chicken fried chicken and pork chops were all cooked perfectly. Good food, beer garden area is a great addition, and service was awesome. Kylie, server, was on point with answering questions regarding the menu and making suggestions. Great job to all the staff at Mama's Cafe. Looking forward to going back soon to try new dishes.
Was wonderful. Pablo was our server and he even brought my daughter a colored pencil and paper to write on almost as soon as we sat down (he could sense my toddlers inability to sit still I imagine), he is great and the service, food and atmosphere were just right for a good breakfast. Check this place out!
Amazing as usual. I love that at 2:00 pm you can still get full on breakfast & a chicken fried steak meal! Fried mushrooms still my absolute favorite staple here!!
My husband and I are regular visitors here. We have tried many items on the menu and have never been disappointed. The food the staff are great and we will continue to come back and keep trying new things. We recently tried the cornbread for the first time and we're not disappointed. I also got the chicken and waffle which is a perfect brunch item and very filling. We love Mama's!
Flavor: A Service: A Tea: A+ Solo dining: A What a find! Everything I’ve had has been great - chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, potatoes, chef’s veggies, pancakes, cornbread, and eggs. Highly recommend Papa’s Breakfast if you like a sampler. All the compliments to their cooks. Servers are also top-notch. If you’re looking for home cooking in San Antone, look no further.
First time at Mama's Cafe and it did not disappoint. The Cowboy dining room was fun and rustic. We tried the Crispy Deviled Eggs and they were awesome! I had the wagyu chicken fried steak and it was one of the best I have had. And the gravy was perfect!! Away from the Riverwalk crowd, easy to hold a conversation and enjoy dinner. Definately recommend if in San Antonio!
Mama's Cafe is an absolute gem! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. But let's talk about the food – their chicken fried steak is out of this world! Perfectly breaded and fried to golden perfection, each bite was like a symphony of flavors. And don't even get me started on the creamy gravy – it's like liquid gold. The portion size was generous, ensuring I left with a full and content belly. If you're looking for comfort food done right, Mama's Cafe is the place to be!
Having moved away and returning to visit, Mama's Cafe never disappoints. The steak nachos, though different, were still delicious and the fried mushrooms & chicken fried steak were great. Thank you to Ignacio for providing excellent service.
Had a fantastic meal at Mama’s Cafe! I ordered the Smothered Pork Chops, and they were incredibly tender and flavorful, topped with rich caramelized onion gravy. The green beans and broccoli on the side were fresh and well-seasoned — a perfect balance to the hearty main dish. My girlfriend went with the Chicken Fried Steak, made with American Wagyu, and it was equally impressive. Crispy, golden breading with creamy country gravy, paired with mashed potatoes and chef’s vegetables — true comfort food done right. Portions were generous, the service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. Definitely a go-to spot for Southern homestyle cooking!
Made a special trip to visit Mama's. As the picture shows I had the chicken fried steak. It was cooked perfectly. I got an extra side of gravy. The grilled veggies were a nice touch. Mine was the six ounce size and I was stuffed. It's a warm and friendly atmosphere. The wooden tables make for nice ambiance. One thing very important to me. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly, warm, sincere, and welcoming gentleman. That friendly demeanor continued thru everyone I came in contact with. My server and even the busser. There was a constant flow of people coming. They obviously knew what I found out. Great food and friendly people. If I lived here I would be a regular visitor. ENJOY!!!
If you want authentic, made from scratch comfort food, then look no further! We stopped in by chance, and even though the parking lot looked full, we were seated immediately. The menu offered a wide variety of amazing entrees and I decided to go with the chicken fried steak and eggs. The food was cooked to perfection! I can't recall the last time I had such a flavorful chicken fried steak. The eggs were made just as I had ordered and with the first bite of my pancakes it was obvious that they were made from scratch. Everything was delicious and our server Xavier made us feel like family. I told Xavier that my only suggestion would be to change the name from Mama's to Better Than Yo Mama's! (Sorry mom, I love you!)
Really great place since it reopened and is part of the Cappy's group. Chicken fried steak is rated one of the best in Texas. Has several rooms and a very nice patio. Huge portions.
This one of old San Antonio's classic restaurants. The food, atmosphere and service are great. The food is prepared and served pretty fast for lunch on busy work day. Chocolate cake is legendary. I just went back today and had the Chicken Fried steak. The classic and of course the fried mushrooms, and they were amazing as always. My server was mira she is a great server and has been with mama's cafe for years and is so friendly and a joy to have as your server and actually takes care of her patrons. Ill be back again next time for the chocolate cake and ice cream.
My boyfriend and I came to try this place for late breakfast. Server was pleasant and accommodating. She brought everything out with reasonable speed and care. While leaving, I asked my boyfriend which of our breakfast spots he likes most (so between this, Magnolia, and Maple Street), and he said Mama's was his favorite. I agree. Beautiful and clean restaurant, full of friendly faces. We were greeted hello and goodbye. Didn't see any children ☆☆☆☆☆ Sorry but that's a big selling point in my book. Also, being able to see into the kitchen was a surpisingly neat feature. Just loved how cohesive and on top of it the team was in general, very organized, especially for such young people. This place is for us. We'll be back again.
Excellent food, best chicken fried steak I’ve had in Texas. The Shells and Cheese was phenomenal. The kitchen had a “what’s going on” moment, and the team’s support got them back on track, banging out dishes. This is the way a restaurant should run. Everyone is a family here and you can see it. Everyone seems to love their job, and overall I was super impressed. If I had to criticize the food at all, it would have only been the hash browns were slightly cold, but that wasn’t bad. Overall, I think I found my new spot! Thx y’all, I’ll be back!
We’ve been here a handful of times. Every time we leave satisfied! The staff is really kind. My son dropped his chocolate milk as we were ordering and the waiter calm us not to worry and help us with getting towels asap. The waffles are crispy on the outside and airy fluffy on the inside. I really loved their waffles! Papas breakfast is a really good one to get too. Their chicken fried steak with pancakes is really something special! I couldn’t believe they had hot chocolate as well. We were starving and ordered an appetizer with our brunch and lemme tell you, that giant pretzel was AWESOMELY DELICIOUS. The kids menu is pretty nice too. Mac n cheese is homemade shell type pasta that my kiddo loved and the chicken tenders are very crispy! I really recommend going here if you’re trying to figure out what to eat in the area. These pics don’t do justice. I was taking the pictures quickly.
This was a unique experience for country cooking. It has a full bar and has a little bit of a mexican food infusion with the country cooking. Food was excellent with good flavor and vibes were really cool. A little bit pricey for dinner time but good for a treat. Will definitely be going back again.
What an amazing little find on my way to the airport. Just the right busy for the time of day. The staff members were prompt and more than willing to help. Asked for recommendations and they were right on. A large menu and most amazing food. Would like to thank this amazing place and it's team for taking care of a hungry traveler and showing that amazing San Antonio hospitality! Thank you, recommended to anyone and everyone!
Went there for a family’s birthday…we were 10 people nothing to crazy Hayley was our server and she did absolutely amazing!! She was super sweet and anticipated my every need. Food was delicious and came out pretty quick! Plus it’s adorable in there….definitely gonna go back if not for the food then for the amazing service
We are gluten free and this as THE PLACE! fired green tomatoes, chicken fried chicken, mash potatoes, gravy, veggies and bacon green beans were amazing! Topped it off with a pineapple ginger margarita and it was perfect! The place itself is cute, classic feel and nice and clean. Kitchen is quiet and looks like a well oiled machine. There are so many rooms and cool decor to look at we totally are coming back and recommend coming here! We came at dinner time but having 2 we had no wait and our server Ethan was super nice and checked on us the whole time.
Definitely a five star. Services was great! Even the customers were so talkative and nice to us. Random ppl walking by our table complimenting our food. The whole staff was working hard everytime. U can see the staff in the kitchen working hard and moving fast. The atmosphere was comfortable and the bar was very nice. The booths were a little snugged but it was all great. Wish they had breakfast for dinner but I get it. I love how the biscuits were made from scratched and the honey butter makes it perfect. Lots of space for parking and there was a wait time to be seated but it only took 15mins. Definitely worth the wait. Definitely recommend. If u want some homemade country style food. That’s beats Cracker Barrel.
For southern home cooking style food this is the place to go. Inside is clean and well lit. Waitress was prompt, courteous, friendly, and attentive. Ordered chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Everything on my plate was cooked perfectly and was delicious. For dessert got hot cobbler topped with ice cream. This really put a tasty exclamation to end my meal and I left full, happy, and with a satisfying smile.
My wife had the chopped steak with green beans and mashed potatoes and I had chicken fried steak with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. Excellent food! Our server,Z, was one of the best we've had wait on us in a long time. Took excellent care of us. Had a good conversation with him. Next time we're in town we'll be going back.
The atmosphere here is awesome! I live how the place is decorated! This was my first tine here and my girlfriend and I had a great time! I had the gumbo and chicken Ceasar salad. She had the steak nachos. The gumbo was delicious! It had a nice roux and plenty of protein. Just the right amount of spice! The steak on the steak nachos was tender and delicious. The staff was great, and we enjoyed our first experience. We will definitely be coming back!
Absolutely awesome place. Ambiance is great. Love the open kitchen view. Xavier our server made us feel like true family with every interaction. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable and just made everyone at my table smile. Even the grumpy child. Management by Conrad is top notch and his leadership shows as everyone who is working is ready to help and serve a phenomenal experience. 10/10 recommendations and I can only hope to be a regular.
I’ve been here twice in a row, on the 13th and on Valentine’s Day; the food is superb that it makes me become a glutton where I want to come back the third time! That'll make it thrice in a row! That's how good the food is, and since I'm fairly new to San Antonio, this restaurant and food remind me of my hometown and I will be coming here from now on!
Awesome place to come taste some five star flavor, everything was phenomenal I definitely recommend the ribeye with baked potato an keep in mind that on steak night it just comes with petite spuds pan roasted with some herbs and not the baked potato but still worth it but the pot roast with gravy was so rich with flavor an oh so tender with perfectly cooked onions celery and carrots but the seasonal pomegranate braised short rib is the cats meow I can’t stop thinking about it long after the meal was over we dinned here four nights in a row to get a full experience of hospitality and flavor
This place very nice service was outstanding ask for RJ he will take good care of you he'll also recommend what's good dishes if you love southern food this is your spot food was spectacular I even got food coma it does get very busy during dinner time I'm not sure if you need to make reservations it does get really packed I so recommend this place most definitely I will be back we started with an appetizer the tortilla soup OMG spectacular a lot of flavors in my mouth my favorite also I got I Texas meatloaf mashed potatoes and collard greens my husband got smothered pork chops broccoli con queso mashed potatoes the most of all at the end you got to try the red velvet cake if you are a sweet tooth person this is it for me it hit the spot I loved it but they also have Divine desserts it felt I was having Sunday dinner at my mom's auntie's Grandma's house
First time been there and loved it. Our severe was excellent and the food was amazing.... I can say when we go back to San Antonio this will be one of the place we stop at...
Mama's Cafe is consistently wonderful. We drive 30 minutes to eat here and have never been disappointed. The food is great and priced reasonably for the amount served. Laura was our server and she did a terrific job of ensuring our satisfaction during the meal. The drinks (alcoholic) are top-notch and again, reasonably priced. I suggest making a reservation to ensure being seated. Its a popular place.
My boyfriend and I tried Mama's Cafe for the 1st time ever and we were not disappointed! Our server, Pablo, had the best customer service. He truly made us feel like family the entire visit. We ordered their famous mushrooms and it had been some time that we had put in the order, but we didn't say anything, we were just talking and patiently waiting. Next thing we know, Pablo comes over and says "the mushrooms are taking a bit longer than we like them to so those are going to be taken care of for you". We were shocked and didn't mind paying for them, then the manager came over and said the same thing. We were just excited to try them and their food so it didn't matter the wait. When our food arrives, the mushrooms were amazing, my chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak were so delicious! Everything was so tasty and enjoyable. We will be back, next time to try their breakfast! For Pablo: thank you for being awesome and fantastic at what you do, you're a hard worker and we noticed you treated every table the same. We hope to see you next time, like you said!
We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday. Parking lot it tight, it's made for compact cars. Some trash out in the parking area. I have to say the women staff are very easy on the eyes. Atmosphere is quaint and old fashioned, I do love the Americana and Texas-centric decor. Service was spot on, Ethan was our server, he was quick and we never wanting, my Arnold Palmer was amazing, tasted like it was made fresh. Portions are sizable, thank goodness they have half portions. Food was hot, tasty and fresh. If you want homestyle, cafe meals this is the premier spot.
Had the pot roast with mashed potatoes and green beans. Wow, it was so good and delicious 😋! Perfect comfort food for a cold day. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was lively. Very enjoyable experience, highly recommend. I can see why this is a San Antonio staple..
Great service. Great food, nice atmosphere. Great drinks. I ate so fast that I didn't have time to snap photos. The chicken fried steak was enjoyable. My wife lives her Chicken fried chicken. We also had cheesecake and carrot cake for dessert and both were top notch!
Came in yesterday for a late brunch after looking at previous reviews. While skeptical about some of the pricing the food was more than worth it. We got the buffalo chicken flat bread as a starter and it was top 10 things I’ve ever put in my mouth. The cheese was perfectly melted and the chicken was nice and crispy. I was sad I could only have 1 1/2 slices to try and save my appetite for “breakfast”. I ended up choosing the chilaquiles verdes and my boyfriend got the ranch hand breakfast. The chilaquiles were PERFECT. I had added extra hot sauce to it and my server came around and said “ooh, you put more on?? Okayy” and I knew it was going to be delicious. I always feel like verde sauce at more places isn’t spicy enough for me but this was the perfect amount, I definitely didn’t need the extra hot sauce to enjoy it. My boyfriend said the ranch hand breakfast was also delicious. I took a bite and the pot roast+grits combo was so so good. Everything all together didn’t even come out to much more than what we would’ve gotten anywhere else so price wasn’t an issue. We will definitely be coming back. Also had to add a picture of the comically large spoons because that’s a whole shovel.
Mama’s Café is such a great stop for breakfast. The menu is packed with options, so no matter what you’re craving—whether it’s something hearty, sweet, or light—you’ll find plenty to choose from. Everything feels like it’s made to satisfy both comfort food cravings and those mornings when you just want a good, classic start to the day. What really stood out was the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff made the experience feel comfortable and inviting, creating the kind of environment that makes you want to come back again and again. Between the variety on the menu and the friendly service, Mama’s Café delivers a breakfast experience that feels both homey and worth making a regular stop.
WOW...WHAT???? Wagyu Fried steak with homemade gravy, collard greens with pablano peppers, fresh thick cut catfish fillets with homemade tartar sauce all served with a requested buttery parmesian polenta...heck even the biscuit was top tier. Dannnnnggggggg best breakfast I had since Brennans in New Orleans. Talk about New Orleans...go outside to the very back of the restaurant..what a gem with a hidden grotto fountain with birds taking a bath and chirping while you enjoy an outstanding brunch. ALEXA was a our server, she took pride in her section, super pro and Alpha on. Mama's was an older establishment that took thier decor to the next level yet kept its original sparkle..even the bathrooms were unique and clean. I do a lot of reviews but this place should be on a cooking show for "Best in America".
Great food with great customer service. I ordered some Chilaquiles Verdes without knowing how spicy the salsa would be. Thankfully, Elena a staff member gladly offered to replace my plate for something different. This is how you build trust and connections from restaurant to customers. Great place!
The first time here is our server, which was very nice, informative, and fast service. I had the chicken fried steak, and the breading didn't fall off and was very tender. Grits amazing. Coffee was excellent. The manager, Conrad, was very nice and professional. Clean restrooms, in door and outdoor seating.. drinks served up by Daniel, you can definitely taste the hard work that goes in every craft cocktail he makes. Awesome job. We will definitely be back looking forward to the second visit.
Went there on a Saturday afternoon for an early dinner. I haven't eaten here in several years but always had good memories, so I wanted to go back. It wasn't crowded, and we were seated immediately. Waitress came right over and got our drink order. We also ordered an appetizer. Within a few moments, we had our drinks (sweet tea with a sprig of mint, nice touch!) and our hot pretzel. Pretzel was nice and warm and came with spicy mustard and cheese dip. The pretzel had a nice presentation and was very tasty. My gf got a big plate pot roast, fresh green beans, and mashed potatoes. It was very good! I got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Chicken fried steak was very good with just the right amount of breading. Cream gravy had plenty of flavor, too Everything tasted great, and the service was very good. I'll definitely be back again.
I went with a friend on Friday for the first time and loved everything about this place! The decor, ambiance, service, prices, food quality and presentation were all top notch, and memorable. It was so good I had to suggest we meet there again for breakfast and brought another friend to share the experience with him. I ordered the "Helluvagoodmess" which sounds strange, looks like sausage biscuits and gravy with eggs and hash browns and was scrumptious! The coffee ☕ was very flavorful and bold, smelling like coffee at home for the holidays! The staff were amazing and the wait staff was attentive, but not hovering. The coffee appears when needed and the same with the empty plates and cutlery. So far this is the best breakfast I have had in San Antonio since I arrived in 2016. I gave ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, only because I couldn't give more. Thanks so much for everything! See you soon! Sincerely: David Lane
This has to the best restaurant ever. We had Laura P as our server and I want to say the service was excellent. That girl knows what she is doing! The food was excellent.

First time here after driving by it for years. Fried mushrooms were amazing and paired well with the ranch. Got the 10 oz chicken fried steak plate as is. Wish more gravy was on the dish especially on the mashed potatoes. Apple pie a la mode was perfect for ending the meal. Service was outstanding! Only negative I had was that the brown gravy I ordered on the side was extremely vinegary and tasted like it was days old.
Our son invited us for a Saturday brunch, he tried the night before to do online reservations but the site did not allow it. We arrived at opening 9 am. So we had a 15 minute wait and ate outside on the patio because we didn't have a reservation. The patio is beautiful, we'll covered and comfortable. They let patrons bring their dogs because we can see the dog bowls in the corner. Our waiter was professional. Our table lacked salt, pepper, and sugar containers. Water, coffee, and tea refill were scarce, I imagine our waiter had tables inside and had us at the far end of the patio. The Breakfast menu was Tex-Mex with more Tex than Mex. The biscuts and gravy were very good and so was their barrito. I can see coming having a drink on the patio under the stars. Good food , average service.
Friendly service, decent pricing, food came out pretty quickly and hot, but the booths are kinda small and uncomfortable though. I ordered the "Helluva mess" but asked for my toast on the side. I also ordered a side of pancakes because they looked really good online and I wasn't disappointed! Big, thick, and fluffy pancakes with a slightly crispy crust, I like the syrup as well. My eggs were perfectly over easy. Good hashbrown quality but like mine a little crispier on top. Homemade sausage patties are thick and have a little spice but lacked overall flavor. The gravy consistency was great but tasted sweet for some reason. Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast and the service.
We had a party of 15 people celebrating a graduation. I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of hash browns toped with camelized onions. It was delicious! The dragon wings are firey, to say the least. No one complained about their meal. All was enjoyed with excellent service and ample space to celebrate! If you are in San Antonio, it's a definite opportunity to get some good food at reasonable prices.
Great experience. Easy access from Nacogdoches Rd. Plenty of parking. Great customer service. I got chicken fried chicken, delicious and perfectly cooked. Onion rings perfect! My husband got a perfectly cooked steak. The waiter continued checking on us. The restaurant decor is very interesting. We were in cowboy room, all ceiling cover with cowboys hats. And wall with cowboy boots. In the other room was a creative wall of Willy Nelson made of beer caps. The staff there is so friendly. We will be back.
So this is the first time actually eating at this location or in general had a good experience with the service Mia was our server. Overall the establishment was very clean and several workers at the time of going right before lunch time. I felt everything was a little bit above average at best and will be trying to come back and try other items on the menu. The menu had many options for breakfast as well as lunch that is definitely a good thing. The hostess greeted me with a big smile and was very welcoming I was on crutches and she made it a point to sit where I had space to extend my injured leg.
Love this place!! Everyone is so nice and food has always been delicious! But this time I had the meatloaf. The flavor was good but the look of it was strange. It actually looked like a slice of fruit cake lol. Other than that it good.
Overall good experience at Mama's Cafe. The schnitzel was good, but I've never had spaetzle served pan fried. The liver and onions was strange as well. Slightly undercooked and with french fried onions on top. The fried mushrooms and collard greens were awesome. The service was good as well.
One one visit myself, but had a lovely experience. Would go again. My friend suggested it as she has been many times. We had breakfast in the bar area as it was busy mid morning on Sunday and we didn't have a reservation. I will give a shout out to the creme brulee coffee, it was fun n tasty. The huevos hofbrau was also tasy.
First time trying. I ordered the fried fish tacos plate. They were decent. Rice was good. So were the charro beans. Only thing is I wanted grilled fish. My mistake thinking I'd get grilled. Not their fault but not what I wanted either. Fish was good but my diet calls for grilled. Again... not their fault. Wife got pot roast. It was okay...a little dry though. Service was very good. Atmosphere...a bit too loud for me. Can't really have a conversation in there.
Service was very good. Food was fine but ,not At ALL hot! It arrived at my table less than 5 minutes after I ordered it. It was room temperature at best. It was a busy time of day so I didn't bother to send it back, though I should have. EVEN the "warm peach cobbler" wasn't warm. The ice cream on top didn't even begin to melt. I realize that for the sake of efficiency most things are pre-made in large quanties but, it seems that they should have been able to find a way to keep the food hot OR at the very LEAST.... warm.
I enjoyed my experience at momas the staff was really nice our waitress Styles was amazing she made sure we were taken care of. The food came out hot and fresh the crispy deviled eggs were delicious definitely try those the chicken fried steak was bland however it was cook to perfection same with the pork chops. I’ll say this, the food is cooked for older white peoples taste very light on the seasoning. This place was a bit pricey also for both meals, a app, two root beers on tap and two strawberry lemonades came to about $70 momas cafe is not a cafe like I thought it’s actually a mid to high end restaurant.
I was in the mood for meatloaf. Wanted to try a new place so I came here. I had the meatloaf and my husband had the bake chicken. I'm going to say the meatloaf was OK but the sides were delicious. …
The food isn't all that and prices are ridiculous. Fine paying sky high prices if the food lives up to it . Not worth it is my opinion. Service was great though !!
Visited 1pm Mama's cafe at 2442 Nacadoches Rd which has plenty of parking area around the building. Large dining room was packed with people. Ate in the bar area had a $12 bacon Kettle One Bloody M…
I have wanted to go to this cafe for a long time. So when my husband asked me where i wanted to go for my birthday, I said Mama's cafe. The place itself is cute and welcoming. I really liked the …
meh.. big portions don't make up for high prices and canned food, if your a decent cook it just wasn't worth it. I don't understand the 5 stars
The service was excellent. All the staff seemed happy and enjoying their jobs and each other. Very nice to see all the smiles and laughter, as well as their care to please customers. FOOD was a big disappointment. I ordered pot roast and it was so overly salty that I could not eat it. In ordering something else I realized I had to find something that did not have any type of gravy or sauce. I got pork that did not come with gravy but the glaze and the meat itself was salty. I do not need to avoid salt due to high blood pressure, diabetes or any other reason but the saltiness was surprising. Obviously I must have a different perspective than others because the place was packed. The items on the menu are appealing in description and type of comfort food, but I warn anyone that needs to watch salt consumption to be careful what you order. You could get a week’s worth of salt in one meal. I guess if you are used to eating salty food you would think everything tastes fine.
The new dinner menu has an average price point of $19. This is higher than the prior menu. There is no Senior menu. The only physical changes inside are the wall of tractor seats, and the expanded bar. There's a new tiled bench-like short wall in outside, where you can sit while you wait to be seated. Still have license plates, just on a different wall. There is a very old Ford pickup truck in the front...highly recommend having the bed filled with soil and landscaped...would hold more curb appeal. Our server was upbeat and genuine. If you're ready to drop a bit of money ($$) on a meal, then patronize this restaurant.
Loud and crowded. I've had better breakfast at Dennys. Eggs missing on a breakfast order, slow to refill coffee. My first time and I will not be returning. Definitely not worth an hr wait time.
I really wanted to love this place. They have a lot of gluten free options, which I was really excited about. However, the food really left us wanting. The deep fried mushrooms were bland. The chicken and waffles also lacked flavor (specifically the waffle and the accompanying “flavored” butter), and didn’t hold together well. My child’s pancakes and eggs were overcooked. And though the gluten free chocolate chip pancakes had an ok taste, they were so dry. I used almost half a bottle of syrup trying to save them, but most bites were still unpleasant. It wasn’t all bad - the chicken had decent flavor, the bacon was bacon, and the cremebrulatte was good. And the place was packed, so I can’t imagine everyone has our experience. I just hope the management tweaks some of the recipes to make the items more flavorful (and in the case of the gluten free pancakes, way less dry).
It's a tad bit loud and the food could use some tweeking. The Caesar had an overwhelming vinegar, however the croutons were amazing, the mimosas had too much vodka and not enough OJ, You're drunk on one. The cappuccinos were pretty stout as well. The onion rings batter could use more work the crust just falls off and could go for another minute in the fryer. I will continue to come back because the service was exceptional, thanks Pablo!
We were in Mama's Cafe area one morning and decided to go there for breakfast. First thing to point out is they're expensive. The food is good, large quantities, but pricey. \nThe dish I had is cal…

Mama's used to be a fun, affordable food/drink hangout. Now it's more stuffy and overpriced. Four of us ate there for Mothers Day. We ate on their new patio, which is very nice. The service and foo…
Disappointed in the food. Greasy. Stringy onion rings. expensive grease which left my stomach upset and a coating on my tongue. Save your money. There's good places to eat in San Antonio and this…
Great service and atmosphere, however, food was disappointing. My chicken was undercooked and I had to send it back. My husband's bacon was too greasy to eat, so he had to use a paper towel to blot up the excess grease. The staff was very apologetic and accommodating, but I lost my appetite after that. Also, the food was served pretty much at Room temperature.
Born and raised Texan…worst chicken fried steak I have ever had. Thick, rubbery, gristly unchewable piece of meat. My dinner guests raved about the fish & chips. The mashed potatoes and veggies were very good. Our server was excellent. I’ll have the meatloaf next time
Really wanted to like this place. Nice atmosphere, service was okay not too bad, now the food is another thing. I had the Chicken and Waffles, they were cold! Had to send plate to be microwaved because it wasn't just not warm, it was actually cold. Husbands potatoes were raw and hard, sausages looked like ground beef mixed with spices, fruit was sour. Now the good, chicken taste good, pancakes were okay, eggs are egges so okay. Took super long to arrive and $150 for 4 meals was so not worth it. Go to Bobby's Southern Kitchen if you really want to enjoy your breakfast. Sorry but we won't be going back here.
Here's my honest review: We hadn't been to this place in over 10 years, so we decided to give it a shot. When we walked in, there was a bit of a wait – about 15 minutes – but we didn't mind. The menu was relatively small, but we figured that's because they focus on doing things right. The fried deviled eggs and fried mushrooms were both good starters. The deviled eggs could've used a bit of hot sauce for my taste, but overall, they were solid. However, things took a turn for the worse with the main courses. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak flatbread, which sounded promising, but it was a total letdown. The flatbread had about a quarter of inch of onions way too much onion. The steak was tough, chewy, and huge chunks. The queso just didn't work. It looked like they threw a bunch of leftover ingredients together. My husband's smothered pork chops were barely smothered, and the mac and cheese was overcooked and clumpy – not a single noodle was intact. Maybe we just picked the wrong dishes, but overall, I'd give it 2 stars. The appetizers were the highlight, but the main courses were a major disappointment.
This pains me to write. I was always a fan of the original restaurant. It wasn't going to win any awards, but was solid diner fare at a good price.\n\nUnfortunately, since the remodel/re-opening, t…
My family came in to enjoy a meal together after our late grandfathers funeral service. We were told that the restaurant could not accommodate our 14 family members due to there only being 2 employees. Additionally they mentioned that they would not allow any splitting of bills. For this we were turned away or offered to wait until additional employees showed up. We ended up leaving and going to another restaurant. Very unfortunate 😕
Decided this morning that I wanted to have the “Hell of a mess “ breakfast. I had otter places I could have gone but I LIKED this dish! So I went and arrived about 815 this morning and thought they would not be very busy. A nice lady sat me in a booth and the waitress came and was also very nice as I asked her to recipe the table as it was a little sticky. I ordered my favorite dish and it came out pretty quick. It was warm … but as I took a bite I tasted. One thing burnt. I ordered this with bacon this time. As I began digging in my bowl I noticed I received a burnt piece of toast. I asked the waitress to let me see the menu as I wanted to check to see what it said. It did say it came with toast…. I have always had it with a biscuit… it’s a $15.95 dish, not cheap. The bacon was overcooked as well. I explained to the waitress that this is not what it has been before with a burnt piece of toast. She apologized for that. I asked to speak with the manager after I told her I was done. The manager came, Conner and said it has always been with toast. I explained I have never had it that way and was not asked if I wanted a biscuit… and he replied that I should have requested a biscuit. I replied back and said that if I have always had it with a biscuit how would I know to ask? They cheated the product and charge more money…I am out!!
