The pupusas were soooo delicious!!! The flavors of pupusas were recommended by the waitstaff and they did a wonderful job. She was very well-versed with the menu. Plantains were delicious. No compliants with the food or the service. Would definitely recommend and come back again.

Hands down my favorite seafood place in San Antonio. As soon as you walk in you’ll be amazed at the aesthetic of this place. The art on the walls are soothing and beautiful to look at . The chips and salsa were great! The chips tasted fresh and the salsa wasn’t overbearingly spicy! I recommend the “Popusas” as a appetizer. The menu also has a brief section of Honduran, Salvador, and Mexican food! Also! If you like sweet tea.. they have good tea!

Awesome experience. We were seated promptly. Our waiter was great. The food came out hot and ready. The only downfall was when my tia ordered her plate, she requested fried Red Snapper and ordered shrimp with it. She was charged for the items separately instead of a combo plate. Other than that, all else was great 👍 tia didn't dispute it, and just paid it.

The food was good but it has gotten a little pricey. The only thing I didn't like was the sliced bread came in a plastic lunch bag and when I took it out it smelled weird. I think the moisture buildup is stinking them up.

I’ve been a customer at this place for the last 7 years! I have a cousin that lives in Detroit, and every time he comes he orders their shrimp cocktail! Their fish is always cooked fresh. They have always brought our orders out to us in proper time. Their customer Service is also what keeps all of their customers happy!

I ordered 2 fried fish & shrimp plates and a filete a la Mexicana through Grubhub. One of the fried fish plates was missing. I called the restaurant and was transferred to a manager. She immediately apologized and said the plate would be delivered. Within 30 minutes, one of her employees had the plate at my door. I received a call from La Playa to verify it's delivery. I'm sorry I didn't get names. The food was fantastic and that was the best customer service I've experienced in a very long time.

Great fish & pupusas! I come from the northeast side of town just to get this! They have other options which I have t had the chance yet. I always take it to go though, but the restaurant looks clean and presentable.

The new friend said they were very happy to put this on there fish shopping list lol UPDATE ... Still a great fried fish and an ice cold brew! This is not a fancy upscale fish house...this is a down home seafood joint...great service... Fried shrimp, crab cakes, fish all beautifully done..love a light breading... cold cold beer..shrimp cocktail that will satisfy your taste buds..... UPDATE.. Still a favorite. I took two people who had never been.. They were mad i hadn't suggested this place before... I loved reminding them that I had been suggesting this place FOREVER. So glad they both liked it as much as I do. They were already planning their next visit...Lunch specials have gone up a bit, like everywhere else, but so worth it... FYI your salad dressing (tarter and cocktail sauces as well) will come in a packet or individual little capped container..which is great, more sanitary... I had the fish and shrimp combo. Full disclosure, I added more shrimp and had a side salad and some of the best french fries, I love them there because they're so crispy.... One friend had a similar plate but with a salad and onion rings FYI their onion rings are excellent.. thin and great batter ...my other friend ordered a baked fish, veracruz style, with onion rings she said it was really great as well but she did put a little hot sauce on it, she said she wanted it to be spicier but she loved it. Veronica was a great server. Friendly and very attentive. If you like fried shrimp and fish (I think they have catfish and talapia) you need to give this little gem a try. This is where fish are happy to throw themselves on a plate and slather themselves in tarter sauce! Enjoy! UPDATE... took another friend for their 1st time. Still rocking. My friend said they were adding it to their fried fish list. Still great service. Still great food.

Ordered grilled salmon and shrimp plate. This came with options and I selected rice and salad. Salad was fresh and came with salad dressing. Before my plate arrived fresh lemon, hot sauce, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce was delivered to my table. Everything I tasted on my plate was delicious. The shrimp was grilled perfectly with a hint of garlic. The salmon was moist yet the skin was crispy and delicious. Service was great and the atmosphere was of a typical seafood restaurant. I very much enjoyed dining here.

Fridays I crave seafood, I was really close to this location and I decided to try this place again. The first time I came to try the Salvadorian food but this time I got 3 fried fish from the lunch menu. It was delicious, plenty of food, the waitress was really nice, the place is clean and the spanish music is the background is at right volume level. I also got a small Vaso de Caldo, that was the item that got my seafood craving satisfied.

Loved the place, service was good, and we were attended to fairly quickly! Actually had red snapper filet which was very good.

I hate eating there but I always order the family catfish meal Togo and it's the best and fresh and fries are so good so is the coleslaw

I am not much of a seafood lover and I recently started a keto diet. A few friends suggested we eat here, and I was really impressed with their food. I got the Caldo Indio Soup, and it was delicious. All the seafood was super fresh and had unique tastes from one cut to the other. The broth that this came in was something I've never had before and it tied the meal together nicely. The only complaint I had was with our waitress. We were a group of 7, and she never took notes when ordering. This caused several orders to be wrong meaning that not all orders were delivered together. So my soup wasn't as hot as it could have been because I waited to eat out of respect of my party.

This is a hangout for locals in a largely Hispanic community. English is spoken but largely everything is in Spanish. Yes there are menus in English but this is largely a Hispanic Seafood Hangout. Somewhat casual. Good food and good prices. Expect the crowd because this place is popular. Parking can be somewhat difficult due to the popularity of the place and its location in a strip mall

I have been coming to this place for years and the food is almost always good . I typically get the fried fish plate , which comes with fries and a side salad. It is definitely filling and if you are not that hungry you could share this plate with someone. I also like the pupusas ( salvadorean/ hondurean type of food) that is prepared like a gordita that is made with refried beans and cheese, or chicharon, and a couple of other choices. But definitely a must get each time I go.

When you order to go check your order before you leave to make sure everything you order is in the bag. They have good customer service and food taste good

Came in Friday about 8pm place was packed so we must of waited about 20 minutes, employees trying their best to accommodate customers in a timely manner, food was excellent all the way around, our dining experience was good, mens restroom needed attending to, it was a mess, despenser empty no soap to wash hands, not that many people wash their hands before they eat, but I do. We'll probably visit establishment again.

This place has a very unique and interesting selection of delicious seafood plates. You can go traditional Mexican dishes that serve their style of fish, are stay with the classics of Salvadorian food Which was a total surprise when the 1st time I ate their dishes. If you want to experience Unique Flavors I think you need to stop over so you can experience the great flavors of these dishes.

Everything was really good, my husband got the breaded fish and shrimp combination, my son got the chicken strips with fries and I had 2 pupusas and a shrimp quesadilla. We called ahead for a to go and it was ready in 15 minutes just like we were told.

I love this restaurant. I have been coming to playa since I was a kid. La playa in my opinion is one of my personal favorites for seafood. Their service is great and fast. Their fresh lemonade also very good. My favorite dishes are the fried shrimp platter and the King soup. The fried shrimp is so good especially with the tartar sauce. But my all time favorite is the king soup because of all the different seafood in it such as crab legs, octopus, oysters, and cod.

The fish was pretty good, though it needed a touch of salt, in my opinion, and the shrimp was a very large size. The stuffed crab was good, but I would have liked a touch more breading in it. The main disappointment to me was that the side salad consisted of pieces of lettuce and a single tomato. I would come back to try one of the other dishes here. They looked like they would be good.

Iv eaten the salmon with veggies and rice, and the foil wrapped fish, shrimp, and veggies. The food is always fresh, however there are never any churros available.. I’d love to try these! Atmosphere could use an update. Update: I had the salmon plate with rice and beans. The rice was a little bland. The margaritas are really good though

I decided to try this place completely at random. One factor being they had fried seafood. I'm not fond of broiled, baked, or seafood soups, and steer clear of the whole fish plates. I ordered the (2) fish (3) shrimp and (4) oyster plate, with coleslaw and rice for the sides. Most the plates here are $10-12. My plate came out decently fast, in less than 10 minutes. The recent reviews had me a bit worried. I tried a piece of shrimp first, the menu stated breading was thin, and it was. Everything had a thin skin of breading, not crunchy, not thick. It was thin enough just adding lemon to the fish caused the skin to stick to the plate and peel off easily. I tried a piece of the fish, and it was really good. The fish was moist, seasoned well, and the tartar sauce here was great. At this point I was pretty happy with the choice. Then a fork full of coleslaw.. which was absolutely horrible. I did not swallow it.. I tried another fork full from another spot.. same.. I moved on to the rice and the oysters. The rice had minimal peppers in it, but was closer to spanish rice than rice pilaf, the oysters were decent in size, not tiny, but not overly large and had decent flavor. They batter on them was a little thicker than the fish and shrimp. One lady came by and asked how everything was, when I said "the coleslaw is bad, its very bitter" the replied "oh, you like it?", I said.. noo no.. bad.. very bitter. She sent the waitress over. I told her the coleslaw was bitter and she asked if I wanted another side instead (in spanish). I asked for fries. How bitter was this coleslaw? All I can say is please do not order it and ruin your meal. I can't really explain it. I'm not sure I've eaten many things in my life that I could compare for reference. A few minutes went by and the fries came out. The fries were really good, they had a light coating of batter on them, were seasoned well, freshly cooked.. and was actually a highlight of the meal.. this totally made up for the bad coleslaw. If I come back, fries and fried fish.. Fish (8.5/10) - Shrimp (6.5/10) - Oysters (5/10) Fries (9/10) - Rice (5/10) - Coleslaw (0/10) Prices were fair, about average for seafood, and portion sizes weren't huge, but I left decently full.. I would return again. Avoiding certain items of course. Definitely a good option for affordable seafood. On a side note, while I was eating I saw other people order several things that looked really good, one being a giant glass of shrimp and red liquid that was topped with sliced avocados. I'm assuming was a shrimp cocktail. This place might be worth visiting as a group to explore the menu a bit.

So they don't have blackened fish as an option and that's how I like to have my fish. The corn tortillas aren't made fresh but it is a seafood restaurant, I get that. You would think they'd have a good tartar sauce recipe but I really didn't care for it. The rice is bland. So meh.

My kids had hard chicken tenders and fries and the other one ordered enchilada plate which was okay about $10 each. We parked in front of the restaurant. When paying at the counter , the waittress, was finally very attentive watching me as I was about to sign the "tip" section. I saw her staring watching me if I was gng to leave a tip - which i did besides the not so great experience. Total bill $52 and change for 👎 food/service. The parking was free and not an issue for us. I don't want to return here.

The place was packed, usually a good sign. The service was passable considering how busy they were though we did see a couple of tables get up and leave due to waiting too long. The food was good. Not mind blowing. We both had the grilled fish and shrimp plate. The shrimp were tasty and big. The fillet was slightly tough, not really fork tender. The experience might've been better at a differwnt time of day but overall it was an average experience.

We had lunch here but pupusa platinum with black beans and cream of coffee, but the coffee in the platinum they were not good at all. Pray to God that we don’t get a stomachache later. We have been here before, but it looks like there’s a bunch of new people here the food was good before but now I don’t know. I don’t think I would want to come back. They did take off the platinum and brought fresh coffee!

The presentation is great but the flavor is very bland. The breading on the fried combination plates is very tasteless, I had to drench it in lemon, salt and pepper plus tartar for taste. The marisco on the other hand was delicious. The tomatoes and carrots added major flavor. Good service and food arrived at the table quickly. A little overpriced for quality.

Presentation looks great. The onion rings are good but they need more flavoring. The breading of the fish and shrimp is bland and I have to rely on the cocktail and tartar sauce for flavor. I asked how old the oysters were and if they got a fresh batch but the people in the front couldn’t even answer the question because they didn’t know. You would know if they were fresh if you got fresh delivery of oysters every. The oysters in the shrimp cocktail taste frozen and thawed out. The shrimp are not cleaned. The cocktail sauce has either cardamon or anise I can’t pin point but it makes it taste like the spice goes on a pie. It needs horseradish. The onions in the tartar sauce are too big and overwhelm the flavor. The coleslaw is dry and needs more dressing on it for creaminess. I would not come back here. The perks were that the shrimp and fish. The quesadilla with the jalapeño was amazing but nothing else was a good reason to come back.

I bought the shrimp tacos, no drink and the total came out to 11.40. It's too expensive for me, I will not go anymore. I wouldn't mind if it was wild caught organic shrimp, but it's plain ol farm raised. Nothing special. I'm not happy with the prices. They are overcharging their customers.

Our waitress was terrible legit worst service ever! Brought us our food and NEVER checked on us again no refills no nothing not even the check which we had to flag down a whole different waitress just to have her make faces about getting the check for us which we had been waiting on for at least a solid 20 minutes. Nice people, but food was completely disappointing. Garlic shrimp was not the traditional mexican style my wife was looking for but it was decent. The fries were reheated and chewy, the rice was cold, and the salad was covered in water with no dressing offered. Hate to give it a bad rating but we had extremely high hopes.

I waited almost an hour for my kids burger told waitress to give me the bill to pay and cancel the burger when I looked at my receipt she hadn't taken off the burger that I never got. I told her that I told her to cancel the burger we were all already done eating and she said that it was almost done. Long story short I didn't pay for the burger we never got.

If you looking for the original pupusa place go to the playa on Poplar this place ( la playa on west ave ) its no longer Salvadoran the cooks are from Honduras the original taste its gone. Wannabe pupusas are dry masa with shredded meat cooked separately. And all the typical saldadorean dishes are made by Honduran cooks and had change all the saldadorean traditional flavor which is sad.

The wait is insane at this restaurant for Togo or dine in. I waited about thirty minutes for my order that should have been ready. Everyone is standing and sitting pretty much on top of one another. There is no where to even stand to wait for your food. I will add this to they had only a food health score of 80 which is rather low.

03-13-2019 We have eaten at this restaurant several other times and the food was great. But this day my fish was burnt. So the gave me another piece of fish and it was raw. My husband ordered an other plate and his fish and shrimp was also raw. The next time we will be taking our business to to Texans Road house or Buckneerrs restaurant. Be careful of eating raw seafood as it can get you really sick. We will never go back.

Not good at all. Popusas we’re not fully cooked. I ordered a fajita plate as well… the meat was supper hard to take a bit and chew. I used to come here 2 years ago and food was great back then. I don’t know if they changed ownership or new chefs.

Had a very drunk customer sitting behind us. The wait staff kept serving him alcohol even though the gentleman clearly already had too much to drink. Absolutely made the experience of having a father's day dinner unbearable.

Worse Customer Service Ever! Ordered 3 different plates, all of which had no taste to an unbearable point. I could not eat my plate. I sent it back, and the manager told me since there is nothing wrong with it, she will only take 50% off, and still charge me a new olate if I wanted it. I declined. Food having a bad taste, is something wrong with it. I would never come back here again, worst waste of money

Horrible!!! If I could give less than 1 star O would! Paid a $35 for food that was GARBAGE!! Ceviche tasted like a dirty refrigerator ( that's the best way to describe it) just old and nasty. I called my waitress to let her know and so she could remove it from my ticket. All she did was apologize that I didn't "like" it. I explained that it wasn't that I didn't like it, IT WASN'T GOOD! regardless I paid for the trash so as not to look like a "Karen" but I will NEVER be back again and I'm telling everyone how trash La Playa is!!!!

We went to this place with a recommendation of good food and it was...the food was delicious, but the service was HORRIBLE! we wait for 20 minutes and if I will not standing & asked who will be our waitress, we still be there, the orders were not the rigth ones, we have to ask for silverware, bring 1 spoon & 1 packet of crackers when we have 2 soups! Never refill our drinks, to pay our bill was another 20 minutes...our waitress/cashier was asking us what we order and what it was our table #, ask 4 or 5 times, they not even know they have that dishes on the menu, total confusion!!! If you are in a hurry don't go there...

Wouldn’t recommend at all. The caldo de camaron was exactly that lol. Only shrimp and literally one piece of celery a slice of tomato and I had to ask for the rice to be added so it could have something different than the shrimp. No carrot, celery, nothing. For $16 you can just go to Pappadeaux. I understand it’s hard times but got dang If I’m going to spend $16 it has to be decent. Horriblé! Cashier was nice on the way out everyone was nice tbh.

Waited 45 minutes for are to go plates the tenders where to hard to eat food was cold and so little fish for the price after just getting off work iam never going back here again . God bless Amen

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant today. From the moment we arrived, the waitress had a rude and dismissive attitude. She just dropped off the plates and never came back to check if we needed anything. The food was cold and lacked flavor, which made the whole experience even worse. On top of that, the prices are extremely high for such poor service and average food. It feels like a regular restaurant charging luxury prices. I do not recommend it.

Extremely tough fish . I guess our favorite fish restaurant for years - changed its Fish Supplier . Very different & didn’t compare to their “usual fish” . Had take out for a 10pc Family Fish & it was disappointing. Salty & tough. Hard to tear apart with the fork & a lot of “ batter “. Would not be coming here again, we were fine when the fries changed , but now the fish ? No bueno .
