Dining at Mi Tierra is an experience as much as it is a meal. From the moment you step inside, the vibrant décor, festive lighting, and lively atmosphere set the tone for something special. During our visit, a live mariachi band played throughout the restaurant, adding the perfect touch of culture and celebration. I ordered the enchiladas, and they were absolutely delicious packed with flavor and served with fresh, warm tortillas that made everything feel homemade. The chips and salsa were perfectly crisp with just the right kick, and the sweet tea was refreshing and balanced, not overly sugary like many places tend to serve. From food to service to ambiance, everything was on point. The place was buzzing with energy but still felt welcoming and comfortable.
Always have to stop at Mi Tierra when we visit San Antonio. They're food is excellent. Atmosphere is amazing. Staff is super friendly. Always with a smile on their faces. They greet u warming & has a family Atmosphere. Love it!! ❤️
First time coming to this restaurant; food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing. I like the fact that they have a panadería inside the restaurant and they also have Mariachis walking around playing some classic rolas. 👌🏼 The area alone where this restaurant is located at is nice, traditional and looks like a tourist attraction. Nice getaway area 👌🏼, definitely worth another visit.
Thank you so much for making my father’s 80th birthday so special! We rented the Mariachi Bar Room and the event was fantastic! Thank you to everyone especially the staff who waited on our party, the cooks for the delicious food, the band for the lovely music, and to Tiana Serrato who put this all together for us. I highly recommended!
Wow, this restaurant, cultural icon, is a great restaurant and Panaderia. The bar was excellent, and the food and drinks were great. My wife really loved the Mariachi floating around to sing her favorite songs. It is a great blend of culture and great food. And now that I know the baddest human ever known ate there, I would definitely go back(see below).
What a great night at Mi Tierra! I’d heard about this place for years from my sister and brother-in-law who came to San Antonio for Fiesta many years. From the minute we walked in the door to the fabulous explosion of color, we knew we were in for a great night. We received a warm greeting and had a lovely conversation about the 84 year history of Mi Tierra from the hostess, Manuela. We had fabulous, friendly service from our server, Ruth, and the food was outstanding! We had tacos, enchiladas, Milenesa, and George’s special (a combo plate). Everything was delicious! The Zapata margaritas did not disappoint. If you’re in San Antonio, don’t miss the iconic Mi Tierra!
I haven't been here since 2010. I am visiting family here, and I wanted to go back. I loved it! It's beautiful and has a happy feeling inside. Antonio was our server, and he was wonderful. He made great recommendations, and we weren't disappointed. My cheese enchiladas were perfect, and they make their flour tortillas there. We will be back soon
Really enjoyed our visit! The food was delicious and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The only issue was the wait time after we arrived — it took quite a while to be seated. Once we were seated, everything went smoothly. With better management of seating times, this place would be excellent. We’ll definitely come back! Our favorite part was the musicos singing at our table while we ate 🇲🇽🎶🎸
Always our number one stop in San Antonio. Whether it's our first stop in town or making it a point to be the last stop before we leave town, Mi Tierra is 100% The Best memory making place in the city. Always perfect chips and salsa, amazing breakfast, lunch or dinner, call topped off with a colorful atmosphere including the mariachis singing by the table side. Don't skip the coffee and a fresh flan. Still want something sweeter try the Panaderia! There's a reason this is perhaps the second most famous place in San Antonio next to the Alamo itself.
Fun, festive and friendly! The food is excellent. We had enchiladas and they were hot, fresh and so tasty! You should definitely get the strolling musicians to play for you! Of course, we stopped at the bakery counter for some cookies and pralines to go. This place has been around for over 80 years because it's just that good! Very highly recommend!
This place has been around for a lifetime. The last time I visited this restaurant was when I was about 10/12 years old. This year was the year I finally was able to take my husband and show him a staple of San Antonio. The atmosphere and service is still top tier. If we ever are back in San Antonio we will be returning. Thank you for your wonderful service and care.
BAKERY ..! Everything was excellent. Even live music. YES, MARIACHIS! Explore a real taste of Mexico 🇲🇽 at its finest. Cabrito was excellent. Every taste took me back to my childhood. Even the lemonade. And now for the real test. BAKERY was even more than expected. The attentiveness of LUZ and EMILY were perfect. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Sincerely, Thank you!
My go-to place for Mexican food whenever I’m in San Antonio. Access isn’t the easiest right now with all the construction near the Historic Market, but it is absolutely worth it. If you get lucky and snag one of the back parking spots (about 20 spaces and free), even better. The food is always hot and plentiful. I’m not a fan of overly spicy dishes, and this place gets it right — the salsa is flavorful without overwhelming heat, and the guacamole isn’t overloaded with salt like so many others. The Poblano dinner is my favorite so far (IMHO), and there’s always enough left for a late-night snack. Friendly staff, roving musicians who add to the atmosphere, reasonable prices, and a full bakery that always has a line — for good reason. This place hits all the marks.
We met up with friends we hadn’t seen in 11 years, and Mi Tierra Café y Panaderia turned out to be the perfect spot for it. From the moment you walk in, the decorations really catch your eye — colorful, festive, and full of character everywhere you look. It feels like you’re stepping into a piece of San Antonio’s history. We absolutely loved the food, and to make it even better, a mariachi band came by our table and performed for us, which made the night feel extra special. We got so caught up in conversation that we ended up staying for a few hours, and our wonderful server took great care of us the whole time. She was attentive and friendly, and we made sure to tip her well for her hard work. The only downside was the long line at the bakery, so we didn’t get a chance to try it this time — but that just gives us a reason to come back. Overall, it was a memorable night at a truly unique San Antonio classic. Highly recommend!
I am a Native of San Antonio and do my best to stay away from downtown but every once in a while I feel like going to Mi Tierra's. The place hasn't changed, the food is delicious Tex-Mex. I had a Mango Margarita and it was amazing. Overall, delicious food and we had a great time. The atmosphere is very fun and decorated festively for the holidays. Gold papel picado and many Christmas trees adorned with lights and ornaments. The Mariachis played but there were only 2 today. Overall we had a great time.
I heard a lot of great things about this place before I tried it. It was 10/10!!! Great food, great service and the atmosphere feels right at home!! The bakery is fresh and everything tastes amazing!!! It's located right in the middle of the Farmer's Market Plaza so when you're done eating, take a stroll through the market and enjoy all the shops!! Love it!
My veteran sister and I had such a wonderful experience! Our server, Legacy, was absolutely amazing—considerate, funny, attentive, and incredibly helpful. She truly made our visit memorable. She even arranged for Ricardo (I believe that was his name) to give us a tour of the restaurant, which made the entire experience one for the books. On top of that, the food and drinks were excellent. We left feeling so impressed and grateful.
Visiting San Antonio- a friend recommended we stop by. We absolutely loved the experience! The food was authentic, very flavorful and delicious and margaritas on point. The bakery offered so many options, we got a few to go. The murals were amazing and service outstanding. Can’t wait to revisit next year!
Everything about this restaurant is wonderful — the food, service, and ambiance are all top-notch. The waitress wearing an authentic Mexican dress added such a nice cultural touch and made the experience feel even more special. And the cakes — absolutely out of this world! So fresh, rich, and full of flavor. Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves genuine Mexican taste and warm hospitality.
This was my first time trying out Mi Tierra Café y Panadería, and I must say, I was impressed! The festive décor created such a lively atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly friendly. The authentic food was delicious, and our server, Nelly—with her beautiful smile—was absolutely amazing. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and that our order was perfect. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in this part of town in San Antonio!
We visited Mi Tierra on Thanksgiving since our Airman had to be back on base early, and I’m so glad we chose this spot. The restaurant is huge, and despite the holiday, the wait wasn’t bad at all. “Beautiful atmosphere” is truly an understatement, this place is stunning, vibrant, and full of character. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was warm and attentive from start to finish. Overall, it was the perfect place to share a special holiday meal. Highly recommend!
Go with Ratings- The food here is authentic and really delicious. We honestly didn’t expect it, because the place was extremely crowded, so we assumed the taste might not be great. But we were wrong. Everything we tried was fresh and tasty. The live music and the overall vibe were nice, and the service was good too. Also, you should definitely try the Tres Leches milk cake. It’s the most authentic one I’ve found anywhere in Texas.
I’ve been passing by this place every time I go to the Historic Market Square. It is always extremely busy. Finally had the pleasure of having lunch here. And with absolutely no wait time! First off, we parked across Dolorosa street and proceeded to enter through the main entrance. Much easier than entering through the Market Square side. They have a large outdoor waiting area for when they are very busy. It is a very large place that technically does seat a lot of guests. I took many pictures. Saw the iconic Selena shrine. Loved their murals. Our food was amazing. We were extremely fortunate that the service was top notch! The bakers were wheeling out a large tray holding some traditional sweet candy. The gentleman was extremely nice as he set us up with his favorites and handed them to us in a to-go box.
This was the highlight of our trip to San Antonio when it comes to restaurants. What an experience! This place is a true gem and should be a must for anyone visiting San Antonio who wants authentic Mexican/ Tex Mex. The food was absolutely amazing and packed with flavor. I ate so much but I wanted to keep eating! I had the beef enchiladas and they were the best (by far) I have ever had. My wife and daughter were thoroughly impressed with their meals as well and agreed that this restaurant is IT! The bonus to this restaurant is that they have a bakery with modest pricing so that you can get a desert to go on your way out. We did so and were so happy that we did! The bakery goods are fantastic and if you have a sweet tooth you will most definitely want to get something for later 😊 I can't recommend this place enough and we will certainly be back when visiting the area in the future.
We enjoyed our experience here and it is an experience with the almost overwhelming decorations and the mariachi music. Our food was good. I had the carne enchilada platter and my wife had the chicken soft taco platter and we would both get those again. Chips and salsa were free and good.
Got here a little.too late as we drive into San Antonio and arrived here at 9:30 p.m. they close at 10:00 p.m. on a Sunday night, I wanted my husband to experiwnce even a quick trip to this historic restaurant which I love due to its very lively, Mexican decór , we just wanted a piece of tres leches and some coffee but were told no more coffee and no more tres leches :( I wished they would have at least tried to make a pot of coffee, since there was still enough time for that, but I know they were ready to go home. It was a bit of a let down, as we had asked the staff outside if there was still enough time for coffee and cake and they said Yes, that shoukd be fine, and we got down the baby and all and it was a cold night. Anyhow, the cheesecake piece we got and gelatina cup were okay, we had to take them to go. In Essence, the staff were kind and the panaderia section was on point with Many varieties of pastries, classics and innovative pastries and super Clean! Mi Tierra will always be iconic and I miss that it is no longer 24 hrs and that there were no longer the mariachis that used to linger around ready to play for aany table who wanted to have them serenade for a small fee. All in all, we will go back one day, just arrive earlier!
Mi Tierra’s is a very large, extravagant Mexican restaurant. The restaurant is enormous and every square inch is decorated with special artwork and lights. This place is extremely popular, as there was a 30 minute wait for an early dinner on a Monday night. For the menu, they have a pretty large selection, and I ordered the Mexican dinner, which consisted of a cheese enchilada, crispy beef taco, tamal Spanish rice, and refried beans. I also ordered nachos for an appetizer. Everything tasted amazing. The waitress was also very friendly and the service was great. The overall ambiance is incredible with all the decorations and mariachi singers going table to table to perform. Beyond the restaurant itself, there is a very popular bakery attached, though I did not try it myself. I really enjoyed my dinner experience and highly recommend Mi Tierra’s Cafe.
For a classic institution in the El Mercado, it does not sit on its laurels as a well located venue in a tourist trap. The staff are welcoming and the food is awesome with generous portions. Beyond that, however, the ambiance is amazing- a burst of color in every direction, like being at a never ending fiesta. Also, the best Mexican Bakery I have been to outside of (or inside of?) Mexico!
We were in San Antonio for a day after some sightseeing wanted to grab lunch. They looked nice and with added bakery it was go time. We waited around 10 minutes for the table, but didn't mind since we just drooled at all the desserts. The appetizer itself was filling for 2 people and we only got one main course. The Puebla with mole sauce was very good. A little sweet and chicken was tender. Overall the experience was great.
Had a couple of restaurants to pick from and we chose this one. This was a great choice. The food was good and the service was great.. They did have live singers going around to tables playing their instrument and singing.. The vibes were great. They also had a bakery. The bakery had so many choices and everything looked delicious. I did not get anything from the bakery because I was so full from the great food we had in the restaurant. I will be returning here next time. I am in town.
My family and I stopped by for dinner after visiting St. Therese the Little Flower Basilica to have our children experience the food and amazing atmosphere at Mi Tierra as part of our adventure for All Saint’s Day. Upon entering you could hear the tableside mariachi musicians in the background serenading patrons. The front section was beautifully decorated for Dia de los Muertos as we entered and we were greeted by friendly staff. Our wait was 20 minutes and were notified via text both soon before our table was ready in case we left the premises to explore (we went to the plaza to check out the live music and people dancing) and right when it was ready. We were swiftly brought to our seats. Chips and salsa were served immediately. The chips were warm, thin and crispy and the salsa had a wonderful kick. Our server gave us no pressure to place our drink, appetizer and meal orders quickly but did check on us frequently in case we needed her. The queso flameado was a cheese pull dish topped with chorizo and served with a side of fresh homemade flour tortillas. My son ordered the kids’ enchiladas, I ordered the Tacos del Mercado, and my husband got the Poblano Dinner. Portions were decent and with the chips and salsa and appetizer, we ended up taking half our meals home for the next day. We stopped at the bakery counter on the way out to get some dessert/next day’s breakfast and got an assortment of breads and jello. Everything was great quality and tasted fresh. You could taste the spices used to make the pan dulce, it wasn’t just filled with sugar. We highly recommend Mi Tierra to anyone wanting a festive and vibrant experience for your tastes and sights!
The service was fast, friendly, and helpful when we asked questions. The restaurant has a lot of decorations, it was fun to walk and look around. There's also option live music, they walk around and will ask if we want music. The food was good. The beef was tasty and juicy, but the pork was dry and a bit lacking in flavor. The tortillas were fresh and delicious. Make sure to visit the bakery. We only tried the pineapple empanadas, it was amazing. The other options also looked delicious.
First time here really cool place to visit as far as atmosphere. We went in the late afternoon and had to wait about a half hour to be seated it was very busy. I ordered the enchilada verde chicken, my husband ordered the Mexican fajita platter with steak. And let me tell you what that was the best steak natural flavors and tenderness it was phenomenal. My enchiladas were good and I did enjoy the salsa it had a smoky flavor with a tinge of sweet. The price is were average for dinner and we had two margaritas. I would definitely come back again.
This restaurant was everything we were looking for. We ate here for late lunch. We had enchiladas, tacos, and chalupas. We got chips and delicious salsas. Our server was so kind, helpful, and attentive. We were stuffed, but still went and bought dessert at the pastry counter. We got shortbread, brownies, empanadas, and other cookies. The cost for lunch and pastries was beyond reasonable. Also, the atmosphere is bright, vibrant, and so much fun!
This was a fun experience as the server I had was very nice and quick service was on point. He was knowledgeable and his friendliness went a long way with my experience. I ordered a jumbo house margarita and chicken quesadillas. He brought house made chips and red sala which had delicious mild flavor. The Chicken Quesadillas were wonderful. Filled with fajita or shredded chicken. I chose the shredded chicken which had such a flavorful taste and the cheese just ozzed out of the quesadilla. The home made guacamole was seasoned perfectly. The atmosphere festive and enjoyable with a mexican duo singing traditional mexican songs tableside on request. A very nice touch that brough this gastronomic experience full circle. I reccommend Mi Tierra as a location that should be included in your time here in San Anotonio. Located in the Historic Market Place you can't find a better way to lunch or have dinner at. There are plenty of shops to peruse before or after your time at Mi Tierra Restaurant. Oh yes... the House Margarita was a perfect touch to accompany my meal.
I have been looking forward to stopping in here for some time now. I left kinda disappointed. The food was lackluster at best. Our server didn’t seem interested in being our server. The food was just ok, not terrible but not great either. With all the positive reviews I went in with high expectations. The section of the restaurant we were in wasn’t that clean. There were napkins on the floor and small food crumbs. Our table was wiped down after we were sat there so we had to get up so they could drag what hopefully was a clean rag across it once. The decor is very pretty and the atmosphere was lively. It’s a huge restaurant so getting seated didn’t take long. I wish we would have stopped to get some bakery items because they looked so good. Overall I don’t know where the hype comes from.
This is a big sectional restaurant in heart of city. Great vibe. It is like you are in a celebration in Mexico which is going on here always with the Mariachi band playing live while you eat and amazing. There is a lot of crowd and we did get our food delayed. So if you need quick bite you may need to consider your options. The good was great though.
Authentic Mexican spot with a great selection of drinks and awesome decorations! I loved the ambience. It felt like a true piece of Mexico. They had diverse dishes as well. Upon entering one of the waitresses was not kind but Carolina took amazing care of us. I loved that they sing mañanitas on birthdays. The enchiladas are solid!!!
Fun restaurant with lots of colorful decor and mariachi! Our large group was seated almost right away even though we were told 20-30 mins wait. We shared some guac nachos, and I had the menudo and carne asada. Both were pretty good. The horchata was a bit watered down. Service was good and the atmosphere is fun. Recommended before/after the market right across for souvenirs. Parking lot across was $10 flat fee.
Very nice staff who let us bring our well behaved dog in after asking first. Atmosphere is festive and pricing not nearly as high as other restaurants in the area. I would say they’re dog friendly but definitely ask first. Chicken mole was very good sauce, homemade flour tortillas and great selection of pan dulces.
I really enjoy coming here. Their menudo is good but sitting down to salsa inside my menu and a squished bug on the wall next to me was very unappealing. Our waiter KEVIN was GREAT! The line for the bakery items was finally not a mile long and I was able to choose some items. I’m really hoping they taste as good as they look!
Iconic! Service and atmosphere: The atmosphere and original Mexican decorations and influences is what makes this restaurant to standout. The interior is colourful and vibrant. This is very popular spot so waiting time will be on a longer side but it's worth the wait. Staff were polite but definitely looked overwhelmed by number of guests. Food and drinks: They offer traditional Mexican cuisine. The flavours were definitely there. I ordered steak which came with rice and refried beans. Steak was cooked medium rare which was great. Certain items like salsa served with chips tasted like a salsa from a jar. Also sangria is not made fresh, it is bought ready made. This wasn't a big deal for us. The restaurant offers freshly baked goods too so you can get some to go. Pricing: Affordable.
When we walked in the atmosphere was fabolous! The decor was maximalist & we loved it! There was a 50 minute wait. Thankfully the markets made the 50 minute wait enjoyable! Once we were seated it took a while for the waitress to come to our table but it was busy! We ordered a small cheese dip & when the chips finally arrived it was one small salsa for four people which were not use to. During the whole visit we only got one more thing of chips which we had to ask for & only one refill of drinks which she returned with no straws. The food was really good. Our only complaint is the whole chips & salsa thing which is a big deal to us when eating at a Mexican restaurant and is the reason for 4 stars. For four people it was $101.21 then we also spend money buying sweet treats on our way out. We enjoyed it. The atmosphere is the best!
We been coming here for decades when we come to San Antonio. The food is good. Its typical Mexican food. The service is always great. The atmosphere has been the same for decades as well. Its real Mexican flare. The chips come out in a little bowl which is ridiculous. Just bring a basket or two with salsa for each guest. The best thing about this place is the bakery they have in house. We always get some goodies to take back home with us.
Food was authentic fresh and seasoned well. I was on the fence Between two dishes and told the waitress to surprise me.. she had the chef combine the two into one. It was a pleasant surprise. The homemade tortillas were so soft and perfect!! They also had love mariachi band that played requested songs..Would definitely back!
Traditional San Antonio new husband hadn't been there for several years, said the food was great and he was still right. Very full, yet was served pretty quickly. The wait was not long. Enjoyed very good Mexican food. Portions are large. They will be in business for a long time to come. They treat their customers like clients. They want your business.
There was a good vibe but unfortunately the service and food didn’t match up. We ordered the mixed fajitas for two with beef and chicken and the quality of both meats was not good, with both being tough. The bowl of guacamole contained just as much lettuce as guacamole, an obvious cost saving measure. We weren’t ready to order the first two times our server approached us, and after that it seemed as if she was avoiding us. The general manager came by and asked how everything was. When I told him it wasn’t good and that the guacamole was full of lettuce, he merely said there was just a little lettuce in the bowl and walked away. I will say the Zapata margaritas were very good. If this place didn’t have the location, they wouldn’t get the business.
People must love this place for the atmosphere. It is vividly decorated and has mariachi players working for tips. Our waitress was good, no frills but nice and did her job well. The food is the most average Mexican food I’ve ever had. That says a lot as Mexican is my husband’s fave and we eat it often. Three stars for mediocre food.
The place is huge! While the outside looks out dated once you register and join the waitlist you get to walk around and experience the local shops. As for the food it wasn’t what I was expecting after being recommended by a co worker. The rice was over cooked and the refried beans were burnt to the plate. The waiter we had only made a table visit twice once to refill our glasses and the next to see if we wanted to order more food but never refills our drinks again. While I am sure this place could be a great destination do some I think with the waiter we had it had a huge impact.
Two people took my order. First Lady act like she couldn’t hear the last person confirmed my order told me they move really fast it’ll be done in 10 minutes. I went to pick up counter. Brought two large menudos 4 street tacos. Total came out to $50.54. Atmosphere was very boring. No energy or excitement at all. The experience isn’t there anymore. The prices are overpriced. If they slowed down they would have gotten the correct type of tortillas and the right condiments for the menudo. I got sweet onions and oregano. A lot of juice in menudo as well. Disappointed because I’m a local and I’ve had mi Tierra before and it definitely went downhill and the tourist wont have the real authentic experience it once was. And I don’t won’t have the right sides with my menudo.
This was our first time visiting Mi Tierra Cafe. I'll start off by saying this place is so beautiful!! I love everything about their decor!! I wish more restaurants looked like this place on the inside! You want to at least visit this restaurant once in your lifetime just to see it for yourself! Five stars for decor. I also loved the atmosphere! It was so relaxing and I really enjoyed the music and the lighting was perfect. The sweet tea was delicious too. Our waiter was nice and always nearby. The food is the reason why it's getting 3 stars and not 5. It just wasn't good. My husband and I had the chicken fajitas for two and I kept almost choking on the dry chicken. The chips and salsa were just ehh. The chips were decent, but the salsa was weird tasting. I asked the kids what they thought about their food and they said it wasn't good. It wasn't cheap either. We paid 100 dollars for 2 adults and 3 kids. No dessert, no apps, no alcoholic drinks just for the nasty food. The desserts all looked delicious on the way out, but by then I was so broke I couldn't afford to try anything. It has to be the beautiful decor, atmosphere and desserts that keep this place going.
This restaurant was recommended by a local San Antonio resident. The people were very helpful. The location was great in downtown San Antonio not far from a number of tourist spots. The food wasn't that good. I had Michoacan. The pork was dry and burnt on the edges. I could by wrong on how this was supposed to be cooked. With a description of marinated in oranges and spices, I expected a juicy and savory taste. It was neither juicy or flavorful. I expected better since the recommendation came from someone local. Check them out and decide for yourself.
Sadly our server Nelly X was not all that enjoyable. She was ok, but we over heard the male server next to us ask about corn or flower tortillas, limes, more chips, salsa and fast refills of soda. Nelly X gave us none of that, none. Our soda cups and chips sit empty. When she dropped the check she recited a thanks, god bless as she walked away. So in contrast, our server detracted from the experience. Food was just average. Guacamole was above average.
Highly over rated. Plates prized too high for the same dishes found in other areas of town. Plus the wait is extreme... almost 2 hours... why bother. There's much better places to eat in San Antonio where food costs less and you don't have to wait for days to eat something you can do at home yourselves.
I have so many memories of great food & fun here. Its been years, but food was so-so. I guess catering to tourists, but I'm a native & expected more. Enchiladas okay, only cheddar cheese, gravy okay. Beans good, but taco was soggy on bottom & a bit tough there. Beef in taco needs spice. Great guacamole. Nice thin flour tortillas. Chips & hot sauce good. Excellent service geared to tourists. And delish skinny margaritas. Bakery always a treat, but what happened to the excellent chocolate sheet cake? And pink cake a bit bland.
Overrated TexMex restaurant located in a busy touristy area. What else can you expect? The food just didn't taste that good (: Service was good and the atmosphere was ok, even though the music was absent. What happent to the jovial Mexican music? However, the food tasted very Americanized which was a let down. The taco salad was ok, but lacked flavor and sauce and my sampler dish was also heavy and cheesy. It's a tourist trap for out of state travelers who wish a taste of TexMex, only to get dissapointed unless you don't know any better.
I recently revisited Mi Tierra after about five years, and unfortunately, it’s not the gem it used to be. I was really looking forward to their beef fajitas, but when my plate arrived, it had maybe four ounces of fajitas total, barely enough for one taco. For a $26 plate, that’s just not acceptable. My husband ordered quesadillas and asked if they could be made with corn tortillas. At first, the server said yes, but then came back saying the cooks refused to do it. For a Mexican restaurant, that’s a bit surprising. On a positive note, my son had the fish and chips, and those were actually pretty tasty. The portion sizes overall, though, just weren’t worth the price. My husband’s pork ribs were tasty but not grilled as advertised, they were baked. Mi Tierra has unfortunately gone downhill. It used to be a favorite, but now it feels more like a tourist trap that doesn’t live up to its past reputation. For the price we paid (about $100 for three people) the portions and the service just weren’t worth it. It’s a shame, but we probably won’t be returning anytime soon.
Food hear is great. We were looking forward to coming here after the rodeo and made reservations at 11:20am in the morning for 7:30pm. We show up for our reservation and they have no record of it. The manager told us that was the morning crew that took the reservation and didn't put it in. Afternoon crew doesn't do that. Told us to go eat next door. The wait wasn't as long. Very disappointing. But I guess when you do that much business. Making people happy doesn't help. Probably won't be back after this interaction.
Extremely disappointing experience. I called ahead and was told the restaurant was dog-friendly and that we were ‘very welcome,’ but when we arrived the staff completely flipped — suddenly the patio was closed and we were told we could only hold the dog inside. After waiting 15 minutes, the same person came back, and when I simply asked for a small bowl so my dog could have water, he said they were there to serve us, not the dog. It was rude, disrespectful, and we walked out immediately. Absolutely not worth visiting.
I love Mi Tierra. I will travel from Dallas to San Antonio to just to have dinner. But this time around, I was highly disappointed. It started the moment we sat down and the waitress came over. She offered us water and asked if we were ready order. She came back several times in a short period of time asking if we were ready order. I asked her if we were getting chips and salsa and she said we would once we order. I felt like she was rushing us to order. I ordered a margarita, the kids food, my husband ordered and she immediately started picking up the menus. I told her that I had not ordered yet. She stopped, looking bothered for me to order. She left and came back with my margarita almost immediately and said our food was ready and she would bring it in a moment. I was shocked but she literally left, got my drink and came back and the order id done? I ordered a Milanese. I looked delicious. But when I cut into it, the meat was red and slightly still bleeding on my plate. She acted bothered and took the plate. When she brought my plate, it was missing the beans. I get that people are tired and busy, but this type of attitude is unacceptable. I was highly disappointed and it will be awhile before I consider come back. Not worth the money spent. Thanks for the trio who saved my visit.
I don't get all the hype about this place. Three hours and we were supposed to have a reservation for eleven and it took two hours to be seated. According to them a "BIG" party came in before us. We were sat in this dirty corner by the emergency exit. The server took another 30 minutes to come by to take our drink order. Our drinks were incomplete and I had to ask another server for four missing drinks, napkins and utensils. As I am writing this review we are still waiting for our food. Do better! If you are visiting San Antonio don't waste your time, money and energy at this restaurant. For those who recommend this place sorry but San Antonio has so many more Mexican restaurants that are clean, well staffed and the food is delicious. The food was bland and not what the menu describes. This place is in the heart of Market square and it does not have a waiting area we had to stand for over an hour along the side of the to go counter in the way having to move over and over. I don't recommend this restaurant and I will never return. The 18% gratuity was added but I don't feel it was fair!
First time here. It was just my hubby and I. They sat us immediately but in a terrible section. I wanted the area that has windows to see the market (picture attached of that area) but instead we had the corner where all the wait staff would come and hang out. We ordered the George's Special($15.75) and the Deluxe Mexican plate($24.75) with an extra enchilada($4.25). Two sweet tea($7.30). We also ordered to go the George's Special($15.75) and Cheese Enchilada Dinner($14.25). To go charge: $2.07 It didn't feel like we had to wait long for our meals or maybe I was too distracted by the worker's gossip and trying not to be recorded by other customers. George's Special comes with 1 enchilada, 1 beef crispy taco, portion of rice, a portion of guacamole inside a chip bowl, and 3 bean and cheese nachos. Sp instead of getting a portion of beans you get 3 nachos... those actually tasted good. The rice did not taste good. A good amount of rice grains were hard. Thankfully they don't serve you much of it. The enchilada is small and tasted okay but not $15 bucks worth. The guacamole salad needed salt and lemon to give it some flavor. They never brought us salsa Verde or none chip salsa otherwise I would have put it in there. The crispy taco tasted flavorless but with whatever chip salsa we had left it helped it. Overall nothing to brag about. Deluxe Mexican plate, came with cooked onions and beef fajitas, rice and beans, 1 tamal, 1 enchilada (hubby order an extra one), crispy taco, and guacamole in chip bowl. The fajitas had no flavor... not even salt or pepper. The onions didn't help. The tamale tasted decent but was a bit soggy. He didn't like the rest of his plate because it didn't have any seasoning. The flour tortillas were tough and didn't have a good fresh taste. Which was disappointing since people have said those taste amazing. What made our experience worse was that a waiter decided to sweep the walkway rug right next to us as we were eating. I could smell all the dust and dirt which became all I could taste. I had a sneeze fit but he just kept sweeping only our area. It was sickening. Not worth the price or hype. Yes certain parts look pretty but the food is too expensive for small portions and no flavoring. Sadly, later my husband had an upset stomach. Sadly, the orders to go were missing items and I feel bad cause I didn't check before we left. I just wanted out of that dust cloud that employee made around us. Total with tip: $109.91 If you're not fortunate enough to find parking at the restaurant, you'll have to pay $10.00 for parking.
Excited to try this spot with a group of 6. Three of us ordered three different kids of chicken soup offered. All three were exactly the same. I specifically ordered the soup that had avocado and in the entire bowl was one small slice. The restaurant was not busy yet service was slow. Food was definitely not what I was hoping for especially given the number of stars. Quality was low and was really hoping for an authentic Mexican restaurant. The men playing music came four times asking to sing a song for $10 and that was super annoying!
