Food was fresh and cooked to order! Super friendly atmosphere. My omelette was delicious! We are definitely coming back to this place.
This place was amazing! The prices are beyond reasonable! The portions are huge and the food is very well prepared. Do not hesitate to order anything from here. The French toast is so good and the bacon is great. My husband tried the hamburger and it was awesome. This will be our go to breakfast spot.
Wonderful diner with a classic feel and friendly community. They take excellent care of you here. Food is homemade, fresh, and delicious no matter what you order. Feels like home.
Cool little joint with a great menu and staff. Thanks for the amazing breakfast y'all.
Exactly what you would expect from a small diner. Solid breakfast plate and good coffee.
You can’t beat traditional good diner food. Their hash browns were crisp, eggs perfectly cooked, and the French toast was delicious. The fast service was great for our impatient toddler.
Had an early appointment and Google searched a quick spot to get coffee and breakfast before I go into work. I decided to try out this local place and it’s so cute, quaint and I felt like I was in the middle of an awesome movie of local, down home, type feel movie. People were nice and food was warm and good. I’d like to come back again when times line up like they did today.
Say man hey man if you haven’t tried this place you’re missing out. The food here is delicious, especially that bacon Swiss burger & onion rings. I give this place 5 stars. Texas Eats needs to come through
Great spot to enjoy delicious food and meet and greet people as you enjoy your
The food is so good and the service was excellent. The ladies running this place are really friendly, and the pancakes were the bomb. 10/10 recommend.
It was good. I went for breakfast it was what I expected from a typical SATX dinner. I accidentally parked in the wrong lot which was for a cool tattoo shop next door the owner kindly asked me to move. The hut parking would be the only complaint if I had to complain but it's not that big of a deal just a little small.
The food is excellent. Always made fresh and taste great. The service is beyond excellent. I eat breakfast here every time I'm in San Antonio. Even though I am only here sporadically they treat me like I'm a daily regular, including remembering my name and my favorite foods.
Everyone always friendly and food is always good. Tried pumpkin french toast, definitely recommended
Food was delicious and quick. Service was excellent.
Every time I walk in I get a friendly hello and welcome. The food is amazing delicious. I recommend the pork chop ala mexicana plate or taco. I’ve tried almost all of the breakfast items and have not been disappointed yet. I Need to try the lunch items next.
The amount of care and respect the staff has here, is phenomenal! The food portion was enough to get us full. Their waffles and pancakes are delicious! Including the breakfast sandwich, it was good and loaded! I’ll definitely be back!
Pork omelette with jalapeños was perfect. Chicken and waffles were amazing. Little man couldn’t stop eating from how good they were. Country a la Mexicana with beans was super good too. Both salsas had great flavor and spice. Definitely will be back.
If you're looking for EXTREMELY friendly service and comfort food, The Hut is great place. You'll feel like you found a new mama there. There is outdoor seating and an indoor counter and with tables. The layout is like a small Waffle House, with the grill in full view of the counter. It's got a diner feel on the inside and a relaxing neighborhood patio cafe vibe on the outside. Give it a try. It's a neighborhood favorite.
One of our favorite breakfast joints and very consistent. Old-school diner with great basic breakfasts, chicken & waffles, omelets, tacos, etc. My wife loves the French Toast. Pancakes are wonderful. I love the pork omelette. Coffee is good. Family-owned. Staff has always been friendly and service pretty efficient. It's small, so it can fill up, but there's a counter with several seats and a few tables outside. If you want a good neighborhood place for breakfast, I highly recommend it.
Great food and awesome service. The wait staff are really friendly, attentive, and it shows. Food was great too! You don't find places like much anymore.
First time here, the parking is sm so i recommend going in the morning. Kids breakfast pancakes , bacon & egg with a smiley face super cute . Kids loved their plate as well did i & my spouse. Tacos were really good. the spouse had the pork chop plate which he was very satisfied with. If ur a family over 4, Dinning inside is not recommended due to space however, They do have sitting outside as well.
Omg great place to eat, everything fresh till ordered, it’s a small dinner but they do have an outdoor sitting area with bar top sitting inside as well. If I had to wait, I would wait
This place is a hidden gem. We live about an hour south of SA and were in town visiting our son. The wife had been craving some chicken and waffles for a while now. So i did my husbandly duty to find some for her. I came across The Hut on a google maps search. The reviews on here were great, and boy were they right ! It's actually a good thing we don't live in SA or we would frequent this place a few times a week to say the least, Lol. Don't worry bout what the outside looks like or the neighborhood its in. Just drive up, walk in, grab a seat, and be prepared for a great meal with great service. I highly recommend this place. 5 STARS !!
The breakfast was amazing, the service was excellent, and the owner, Alex, was very nice. The lunch items looked really good that other people ordered so I'll have to come back for that. It is a very small place so depending when you go, there may be a wait, but for us it wasn't bad...15 minutes.
Cute spot for breakfast, brunch and lunch. I had the pancake plate and my mom tried the waffle plate. Everything was delicious, the staff is attentive and the place is nice and tidy. Definitely will go back for their lunch specials!
Food here is really good people are very friendly and if we come back to San Antonio will definitely come back here for breakfast
Great little place, super unique! Food was great, staff was amazing, and we will be back!
My daughter loves coming here. She enjoys how they make the kids meal pancake a micky mouse with whip cream as the smiley mouth and fruit for the eyes. I personally enjoy the oatmeal. The oatmeal reminds me of my grandma's and has the right amount of milk and cinnamon. I enjoy that the milk and orange juice come in mason jars. The staff are always polite and tentative.
My girlfriend and I were craving classing American fare in a diner setting. The Hut Diner did not disappoint and was an excellent choice. The portions were HUGE, and they serve breakfast and lunch all day which was fantastic. HIGHLY recommend checking this place out!
As always the food and service is amazing!! We drive over 35 mins to visit and it's worth it! ❤️
Unassuming lil diner that I've waited 6 months to try because I'm always passing it up! Ladies here are all friendly and helpful. Pleasant lunch. Ordered the Mushroom Swiss Bacon Burger made with Texas Toast. Unfortunately they ran out of mushrooms BUT we had the Swiss Bacon Burger which we were happy to have. I tried the wonderful crispy onion rings and wife had crispy no grease french fries..all were excellent. We'll be back for breakfast which is served all day! You should find something you like here. Everyone we saw were so happy with their food choices. Small place, tight limited parking but if you find a spot atop here and give them a try 😉👍
The Hut Diner is a true hidden gem nestled in the heart of San Antonio. This unassuming hole-in-the-wall eatery is my wife's and I go-to destination every time we visit San Antonio. The home-cooked meals served at The Hut are reminiscent of traditional comfort food, with each dish prepared to perfection and bursting with delicious flavors. What sets this diner apart is its unbeatable cheap pricing, making it an incredible destination for families and foodies alike. The warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff make you feel right at home from the moment you step in.
We searched breakfast restaurants and went with the other reviews for this one. And wow, we are so glad we did!! It's just a small diner feel, but the food is unbelievable. Couldn't go wrong with anything; bacon pancakes waffles the chicken. All at great portions and prices. We will definitely be back.
Best lil diner in San Antonio. The food is awesome and huge portions. I sat at the counter since the 6 tables they have were occupied. The ladies cooking were pros as were the wait staff. Super friendly with the customers and the way they worked together should be how all food places operate. They joked around with each other like family and good friends. They're only open from 7-3pm and they get busy wth dine in and to go orders. This is my new favorite place. They have a variety of menu items for breakfast and lunch. Huge pancakes and those waffles, WOW!! I didn't want to share because I may not get a seat , LOL.
Very great breakfast place. The only draw back is how small the place is so there are times you may need to sit at the bar/ counter. Food is amazing, with vegetarian options and some Mexican food but the omelets are the best dishes they make.
This place is hands down the best diner I’ve been too. The FOOD guys, OMG I dream about their chicken and waffles. I always try to bring a friend or my family to spread the word of this tiny hole in the wall GEM! The inside has 5 booths, 8 chairs at the bar top and outside tables. You see the food magic happen right before your eyes, since the kitchen is across the bar top. Their may be a wait depending how many tables they have but the food will always be fresh. Thank you guys for making my tummy happy every time! and don’t forget to tip the cooks ;)
I think I’m in Love! Haven’t yet eaten as I write this post but I’ve seen the plates of other Patrons and the portions are BIG and the food is made fresh right in front of you! Most importantly for me, the place is super-Accommodating with a very Friendly Staff; and they create a very Welcoming Environment for their customers! Right from the start, the Staff was super-Professional; mostly Spanish-Speaking Ladies that remind me of my Mom; and kind souls who create a very hospitable and welcoming environment! Not for Large crowds as dining space is limited but definitely a breakfast experience you don’t want to miss! And Great music also playing in the background; honestly, Love these hole in the wall places as you cannot create or pay for the Ambiance; it’s just there when you arrive! 👍🏽
From the moment I stepped foot into this diner, it just felt like home. From the amazingly friendly staff to the smells emanating from the building. Like a band that instantly becomes your favorite and you want to horde it for yourself. You are really doing yourself a disservice by eating at an establishment that pales in comparison to The Hut Diner. I am sooo stuffed and can't wait to come back for more. My new favorite place to eat when not enjoying food at home. Thank you. thank you. THANK YOU!!! You really need to come and try for yourself. I got Breakfast And Lunch...I couldn't help myself.
Delicious! Veggie omelette was great, and even the oatmeal was tasty - not too watery, not too cold or over-sugared. Just like grandma made it. And the toast was perfectly toasted. This place isn’t a fancy spot, just a solid breakfast joint like Jim’s or any classic diner. Here’s a shot of my half eaten omelette.
This diner is fantastic. We had a very friendly waitress and there was seating outside for our dog to join us :-) The waffle was the perfect blend between fluffy and crunchy, the tacos were great and the staff was amazing. We even treated our dog to some ice cubes and plain grilled chicken. We will be back next time we are in San Antonio!!
Great food here! I was hoping to speak to the owner to see if interested in expanding to a new location. I can easily be found online since they won't allow me to leave info here.
This place should be packed wall to wall at all times every day. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy and comfortable. Everyone is so kind, and the FOOD! The chicken and waffles were 10/10. The chicken was cooked to perfection, not too dry, not rubbery. Perfectly crispy and paired so well with the waffle. The waffle was just what you need. So many places give you 3-4 waffles to over compensate for the lack in flavor, this one waffle was incredible. My husband got the Patty melt, and tbh it’s the best patty melt I’ve ever had. The meat was juicy, and the onions were so perfect. Little bit of a crunch and perfectly cooked. And the fries were addictive. Dipping them in their mayo was like heaven. Thank you to everyone here for your incredible talent, including Ada who was Soooo sweet!! 💕 we loved your vibe!
This is truly a gem of a restaurant. This place belongs on every top ten list for SA breakfast. I happened to see it on Google maps when I was searching for good inexpensive breakfast. This place hits the spot. The food is cooked right beside you and all the ingredients taste fresh. I opted for The Hut omelette and it was delicious. This place is tiny so come early or get it to go. The employees are kind and want to be sure you enjoy your food. It's no fuss, tasting like a home cooked meal.
Food was delicious, it was prepared on a flat grill right in front of you. Not like your other restaurant where it sits on a stove for long periods. Family owned and operated. The only down fall to this place is the seating. It is limited. Not a place to Patronize if you have a large group,Unless you sit outside. The waitresses were very prompt in taking our order and serving us.
First time was a fantastic experience. Food was great, would have liked more eggs as a side and drip decaffeinated coffe, but no actual complaints. I should have taken pictures but ate it before I recalled, it was that good. Got the chicken and waffle. Will go back, often. Inside dinning not recommended for a party over 4.
I have been trying to get to this hidden GEM for weeks and we finally made it. *** THIS IS A MUST STOP *** I should have not waited so long to stop here, everything is made to order, worth the wait. Ashley was so alert and provided excellent service, the food was excellent! There are so many choices to choose from the price point is spot on. Jesse was very welcoming and checked on us as well. All the staff was fantastic and my complements to the cook. I highly recommend this fine eating establishment, it is small but I loved it. There is a bar inside and it has a tiny feel of the Waffle House but 100x Better, Cleaner and friendlier. We will be back probably within the week, thank you Hut Diner, keep kicking a$$!!!!
My new favorite breakfast diner in town! There was a bit of a wait to get in, but they were so kind and welcoming about it. I loved sitting at the bar and watching the staff make the dishes. I got the pork omelette, and the portion size was massive for only $10! My friend really enjoyed their French toast too. I will definitely be back!
I woke up with a hankering for waffles so I googled just that! Several places showed up on the map, but this was one of the closest. The service was great! Everyone who worked there greeted me and got me the things I asked for in a timely fashion. I ordered the chicken and waffles AND the veggie omelet. I have zero complaints about the service and the food. The waffles really are amazing. Went well with the chicken breasts. The omelet was nicely done with avocado on top. I went on a Friday morning so there was plenty of seating and no wait. I definitely recommend this spot for your breakfast needs. I also hear the burgers are great. I'll try them next time.
Let me start by saying the food is absolutely made with love! The fish sandwich was hot fresh and so damn good paired with the french fries ! My wife got the French toast eggs bacon and hash browns. The French toast was so light and reminded me of how my grandma would make it. Also we sat at the bar and couldn’t help but see them making the waffles along with all the other patrons entrées. So I had to get a waffle last minute and I can honestly say. Not a lot of restaurants know how to make a good waffle but, you’re in luck if you dine in here they have the most buttery light and hot waffles. Light syrup is the way to go no butter cause I’m telling you it doesn’t need it . I sincerely love this spot. I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting breakfast or lunch. Also their food was super hot(temperature wise). So careful.
I absolutely love places like this. Holes in the wall with superb food and service. Lovely ladies, cooking your food at the bar top griddle. I am from Houston and can't wait to go back to San Antonio to eat there again. We are back in San Antonio again, this is first place I wanted to eat at. Again service was exceptional food even better. How can you go wrong when 4 Grandmother's are cooking?
What a great experience! Very small chill, but friendly place. We stopped in on a weekday morning and we're able to be seated immediately. I imagine there is a wait on weekends. All of the staff were friendly and made us feel welcomed. The kitchen, grill area is visible and it was immaculate. Our food came out quickly and was delicious! We both ordered the Hut omelette, one with sausage the other ham. The omelettes had a good amount of filling, but not to much, they were excellent. This is our of the way for us, but well worth the visit. We will definitely be back, and soon😋😋
This is a breakfast staple for me and my family. We bring the in-laws, friends, our kids, anyone who can't decide where to go? Go here. My wife and I love the old school diner feel, the waitresses are so friendly and genuine, the food is spectacular! Never have I had anything remotely close to not being damn good from here. Give them a shot, you won't regret it.
Wife and I stopped here to have some lunch, and it was our first time there. Awesome little place for some great food. Everyone that works there is nice and helpful. The burgers there are probably one of the best ones I’ve had. We plan to go back and try out some breakfast. Parking is a little tight but I was able to park my lifted truck without any issues. Highly recommended trying it out for some good home feeling cooking.
A marvel of efficiency is the perfect way to describe The Hut Diner. This small but mighty restaurant somehow manages to serve a steady stream of customers with lightning speed, all without sacrificing an ounce of quality. Despite the fast pace, the waitstaff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring your coffee cup is never empty for long. The food itself is a testament to diner perfection. The pancakes are a standout—light, fluffy, and boasting a lovely vanilla flavor. The bacon is cooked to a perfect crisp, and the hash browns are golden and flawlessly prepared. The only real downside is that with limited seating, you may have to wait a bit for a table. But once you're seated, you're in for a true treat. This is a five-star diner experience that lives up to the hype, even if it might be a danger to my waistline!
My family has been eating here for many years, though we stopped during the pandemic. We were pleased to see that it survived and were excited to try it again. It was a lot busier than it used to be (good for them!) so parking was a challenge, and luckily we went at an odd hour, otherwise we wouldn’t have found parking or seats. The food was pretty good, though not quite as good as I remember. The food is ready much faster than before. The prices have gone up quite a bit, which doesn’t fit with the turn and burn vibe. If I am ordering within a minute of sitting down someplace, with no time to take a drink of my coffee before I am handed my food, then handed a check 5 min after walking through the door and less than halfway through my meal (and therefore feeling rushed to vacate the seats) I don’t expect my bill to total $35 for 2 people, plus tip of course. It feels like very expensive (and better quality but not that much better) fast food. I want more of an experience for that price, and if I am going to shove something in my mouth on the go out of necessity, I want to pay far less. And probably stay in my car.
If you have ever wanted to know exactly how your food is prepared, visit a real diner. I am talking about one of those food made fast, as opposed to fast food, early 20th century, small roadside eateries where seating is only window booths and stools at a kitchen side counter. Where a small brick and mortar food service is housed in nothing more than one long, narrow hallway. Can't find one anymore you say? Well, there happens to be one as near as the Art Deco district of Fredericksburg Rd. This barely re-invented and probably somewhat forgotten 60s diner near IH10 is alive and well and one busy little breakfast and lunch nook. No booths left so we found space at the counter. Service is instant. Soft drink for her and a cup of hot joe for me came in a flash while we considered our order. Though this place has acquiesced to the pressures of current hipsterism via its genuflection to a chicken and waffles offering, lots of basics still abound in the form of french toast, pork chops, pancakes, omelettes, hash browns, etc. Plenty of plates for lunch too, but we were there for a late breakfast. A waffle plate with sausage or bacon, 2 eggs and hash browns for $9 got the call. Coffee refills were anticipated at half cup intervals by one of the cooks as he and two other fine ladies also juggled the orders coming in to be filled by mounds of shredded potatoes browning along with bacon and eggs sizzling on the flat top, and battered chicken popping in the small fryer no more than 3 feet in front of us. If it all sounds good that's because it was. I almost felt like I was part of the action being so close to the griddle and watching the short order cooks glide effortlessly back and forth, without collision in such a small space, producing hot plates of picturesque comfort food in mere minutes. I was a bit jealous of their unharried demeanor and obvious cooking skills in the face of steady demand. The cornucopia of smells along with the visual poetry of the cooks enmeshed in a precise ballet of food preparation and movement among themselves like cogs and sprockets in a swiss clock was heady stuff. The downside, if you can call it that, was as a result of my close proximity to the action, I wore the smell of the grill and all of that good food home for the next few hours. Booths and stools are small and a challenge to accommodate my 6'1" presence. There are only a couple of booths that are big enough to make room for daddy. Still, I would return for the quality and price, service and experience even if I have to cram my legs against the counter again basically taking up the leg room for two stools. Some fresh made breakfast tacos also came home for later consumption. Are ya listenin'? H-m-m-m-m?
Gave this spot a try after doing an internet search for somewhere new to eat. It definitely had a diner vibe inside, but you also have the option to eat outside under a shaded area. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive as well. Pros; good food, something for everyone menu options, reasonable prices Cons: limited seating and limited parking
This is by far the best little diner I have ever been too. First of all the environment that this diner has is something out of the 80s. What I mean is they are not trying to be a diner from the 80's I'd just so happens to feel that way. The staff cook your breakfast or meal almost right in front of you and you can see everything they are cooking, which is very interesting. I couldn't stop watching then cook. Everything about the food they make is fresh. They get their ingredients from local stores around the area. Instead of huge truck dropping off commercial ingredients that have been frozen for days. And while the staff is cooking they keep conversations with you to make sure your having a great experience. I got the pancake plate- it came with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage. I can tell you that I have had alot of breakfast in my days but this was by far the most flavorful. After eating the food I felt full and but not over full. Not sure if you know what I mean. Overall it was a great experience. Loved it.
1st time to the hut diner. Saturday early afternoon. Not to busy. Parking lot is small, but so is the restaurant. Maybe 5-7 booths for parties of 4. Or sit at the counter and watch your food being made. They also have outdoor seating. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The food came out hot and quick. I had the chicken sandwich, hot and delicious. I could not finish it. Fries were crispy. I am a bit of a sweet tea connoisseur. The tea was OK. Nothing to special. Wife had decaf coffee ..instant coffee btw . You have to stir it in, which I found bit odd. She loved her waffles and said everything was tasty. We had a party of 5 and it was about 60$. Atmosphere was cozy and for it being small, it didn't feel that way. We will go back to try other dishes.
Excellent choice, breakfast was better then expected. Menu options all seem tempting and well discribed. Cozy setting, diner type look, plenty of character, polite staff. I didn't look any further then the cover page to make my selection. Chicken and waffles were great. Don't forget the toppings, I ordered them on the side because I preferred it that way. All reasonably priced for the quality I experienced. I look forward to another great meal from The Hut Diner.
I went there with my mom after a friend recommended the place to us and it is very much a hole in the wall. The first thing we noticed was how small and cramped the parking was, we also noticed they have a drive thru window right next to the parking. They also have outside seating and the inside is pretty small it has barstools where you can watch the cooks prepare your dishes and about 4 booths. I ordered the pancake plate and added an extra serving of bacon and an order of toast. While everything was delicious and freshly made the staff made sure our cups were always full with their delicious coffee. The food did take a little long to come out but as it was made to order it was very reasonable and worth it. My pancakes were sweet and a large size taking up half the plate, the eggs were cooked exactly how I like them and even the hash browns were soft and crispy. The only thing I’d change is maybe the brand of the bacon because it did have a weird aftertaste. However with a friendly staff and a very local feel inside the restaurant it is definitely somewhere I’d visit again and try more from their menu.
Flavor: B Service: A Tea: A Solo dining: A This little diner is a great breakfast spot. I got the pancakes plate and a single biscuit with gravy (the special). Everything was good. Nothing spectacular but great diner food. I would’ve preferred more flavor to the hash browns and eggs. My server was great and I look forward to returning.
This business popped up on a Google search for the best patty melts in SA. We visited it on a Sunday afternoon. There was a few 'locals' present. It is located in the Deco neighborhood, a mature section of the city. The building is older, small, and has a drive-thru. It also has outside dining. The interior is small, aged looking with a counter and five booth seatings. The small and older restrooms were clean and are located at the back of the business. The waitress was friendly. We ordered the 8oz patty melt ($10.50), a chicken sandwich ($9.99), and a 1/2 order of fries and onion rings ($2.00). We had water to drink. We asked for crisp fries and grilled onions. The sandwiches arrived with what appeared to be grilled bread slices. The fries were not crisp and we had to ask for a few more grilled onions. Thin strips of chicken were used on that sandwich. The overall taste was 'meh.' Our bill with tax was just over $25, certainly high for what we had. You can find better patty melt and chicken sandwiches. Finally, there was nothing in the ambiance, quality of the food, or the overall experience that would beckon you back for more. Your mileage could vary depending on your food selections.
The service was so terrible and they didn’t even ask me politely what kinda drink I wanted and and the food was not what I saw from online don’t recommend ever worse place ever
