Where do you go and get the best grilled chicken sandwich in San Antonio? Right here at Tommy John’s Tailgate! I was told there are 3 locations with one in New Braunfels and another location with a different name …. West side of town… of 151 and 410 area. Really the BEST chicken sandwich I have ever had besides in my own back yard off the griddle or grill! I have just found a new local spot and I live close by which is even better! This location has been many other owners and different names and they have all been CRAP! I have held out but now I am hooked! Great job MT!!!!!
We are constantly looking for different places for good food & drinks this place meets that expectation! Best part was bar service and our sweet server Cass! She & my wife hit it off chatting. Great server with excellent personality & people skills. We can afford to eat anywhere we want this place is just so cool. Looking forward to returning in the evening.
I had the pleasure of being served by Bella, and I can honestly say it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while! From the moment I sat down, she greeted me with a warm and genuine smile. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make sure my meal was perfect. Every detail was taken care of, and her recommendations were spot on. Bella truly made the experience special, and I can’t wait to return! Highly recommend her – she’s a true asset to the team!
We went with our kids on a Friday night and sat outdoors so they could run around. Very pet and child friendly with a small playground and some fun toys. My family has always enjoyed this location but weren't big fans of the dog park/bR combo they've been going for. This is a huge improvement! Cass was a sweet and attentive server and the food was really yummy! I had a build your own burger and husband had some chicken. Our kiddo had a quesadilla. We even loved the fries! All very tasty and great! Only gave atmosphere four stars because I would encourage more fans outdoors in this summer. We were melting even in the shade! Would be back!
Mike was a great bartender! We visited when it was slow, so he took the time to tell us about the best drinks! I got the League of Their Own. It’s crisp and refreshing! Not too sweet and not too strong. A delicious -and dangerous- drink.
First time and will definitely be back! Kids enjoyed the playground. Wings were perfectly crispy and delicious. Cass was our server and completed the perfect experience. She walked us through the menu and specials and was wonderful. Thank you Cass!
We really enjoyed our experience here! We sat at the bar and Alison was our bartender. She was amazing! She was attentive and friendly. The food was tasty and the drinks were made to order. My husband and I will definitely be going back! We live just up the street and it’s our new favorite spot.
Stopped by to kill sometime at the bar. Was greeted pretty quick at the door with a smile, everyone was courteous and kind. Jillian at the bar was very polite and very quick at getting me squared away with my order as well as very courteous. Definitely would go back again.
We hosted our June Pride LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 social event at Tommy John’s Tailgate yesterday and couldn’t have been more pleased! Anthony and Olivia took great care of our club in their downstairs party room. Excellent food at reasonable prices and a full bar were much appreciated. ( We paid individual checks and could order from the full menu, not often available to large club parties. Also- their party room was no extra charge-much appreciated.) We’ll be back!!
This is the place to be for great food, comfortable seating and fun atmosphere to relax and watch your favorite sports. The food presentation and taste was so mouth watering good. The staff was great but our server Bella Lawrence gave myself and friend the best service and tour of the grill. She was knowledgeable about the menu. Our drinks and food was served in a timely manner. Bella deserves employee of the month with her professional and customer service. Continue to serve great food and great staff. Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Had a great first visit here last night. Our server, Olivia, was friendly and checked on us frequently. While we only shared appetizers, they were hot and delicious! We sat inside to enjoy quiet conversation but we will be back to enjoy the live music soon. Fresh food, great staff and service. Thanks!
My family and I had a great time for my birthday. The Cajun pasta, the loaded fries, and the drinks were amazing. Service was great and the owner was very attentive to or needs. We ended the night with pickle ball and it was so fun. I would suggest maybe putting up nets and cutting the trees cause the ball kept getting stuck in it on the second court. Overall great experience kid friendly place.
We were here from the Houston area for a basketball tournament. I brought my boys and their families here for a family dinner. I spoke with the manager (Anthony) before coming and he was very welcoming and friendly. He set us up with a room for our party of about 35 people. He was very helpful. Then we were blessed with Bella as a waitress. She was amazing! Very patient and kind. Especially with working with a large group of parents and teenage boys. Our group was moving around from outside to inside and she did great! I’d recommend this place anytime! We will be back next year for sure!
Our experience at Tommy John’s Tailgate was wonderful. We had my son’s 4th birthday party there and the staff went above and beyond for us. The manager Anthony was so helpful and accommodating and our server Bella was incredibly helpful and kind. When I got there early to decorate Anthony and Bella jumped in to help without me even asking. They truly made everything about the whole afternoon easy. We did the “feed the team” order of burgers and chicken strips with fries and it was perfect. The food was delicious and we had plenty. We will definitely be back and plan to have many more parties there. Highly Highly Recommend!!
Tommy John’s Tailgate is an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. Our server, Khrys, was incredibly attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. She even brought over a water bowl for our dog, who loved being treated like royalty! One of the managers, Anthony, stopped by our table to chat and gave us some great recommendations. It was a bit chilly outside, and Anthony kindly offered to bring over a heater, which made the experience even more enjoyable. As for the food and drinks, everything was spot-on. We took advantage of happy hour and ordered a couple of Millers, the chicken wrap, and the wings—all were absolutely delicious. The fact that Tommy John’s is dog-friendly is a huge bonus for us. Our pup had such a great time, and so did we. We can’t wait to come back for another round of great food, excellent service, and good vibes. Highly recommend!
I hosted my boyfriend's 55th Birthday Party for about 30 people at TJT's this past Saturday & it was soooooo great! I live in Houston & only had a few days to pull this together. Anthony (the manager) called me & we talked through everything. He sent me his cell number & told me to text him anytime. He sent photos & recommendations & was so accommodating for everything that I asked for & just did everything he could to make sure we had a great time. Our servers, McKenzie & Jackie were absolutely amazing. It turned out even better than i imagined. So grateful for the amazing TJT team for their flawless execution that made my guy's birthday celebration one to remember! We were already regulars before this but are now customers for life!!!
We had a fantastic experience at this family- and dog-friendly eatery! With delicious food and free ice cream, it’s hard to ask for more. Our area really needs more outdoor dining options, so we were thrilled to try this place out with the family on Halloween night before trick-or-treating. The kids loved playing on the playscape and were especially entertained watching the construction of the pickleball court. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food was a hit with everyone, especially the picky eaters. Overall, we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!
Our server Charisma was top notch! Anthony the manager was very kind to inquire about the service and the experience. I would highly recommend this place for everyone. Live music, pickleball and corn hole. Great food and drinks!
What an awesome spot! I was invited to their media night and had a fantastic time. The service was great the minute we walked in. And our server, Belinda, was one of the best! She was so helpful with the menu, friendly and hospitable. The food was delicious! I tried the shrimp pasta, and we shared chips and guac. The chips are the legit kind, too! The atmosphere is perfect. We didn't take the kids (or furbaby) but we'll definitely be back with the whole family. There's comfy spots inside, outside and even an upstairs area for dining or events. You can also enjoy the playground, fenced dog park, and tons of picnic tables. 🙌🏽
I enjoy it here every time I come. It's has become my to go place. My favorite is setting at the bar and enjoying the football game. On nice days, setting outside and enjoying the day. Staff are kind and on top of their game. The food is delicious. My favorite beef tips on toast and a nice cold blue moon on the tab. Wesley Johnson, aka "Blake," Morning bartender will take care of your bar needs, and if time permits, have a conversation with you as you enjoy drinks.
Tommy John’s Tailgate has quickly become one of our favorite partner venues! We’re thrilled to work with them to bring our pickleball and cornhole leagues to life. This spot is an absolute gem, whether you’re looking to catch the big game or host a group gathering. With plenty of big-screen TVs both inside the bar area and outside on the patio, there’s not a bad seat in the house. The multilevel layout is perfect for group events and offers a great view of the pickleball action. As for the food—it’s incredible! We’ve utilized their catering menu for our group parties and were impressed by the variety of options at a great price. The gourmet hamburgers were a huge hit with our group. A special shoutout to Morgan and Eric, who have gone above and beyond to make sure we have everything we need for an amazing experience. Tommy John’s Tailgate is a must-visit, and we highly recommend it for your next outing, whether it’s for leagues, parties, or just a fun night out!

I think this place is great. Alison was our bartender and she was absolutely stunning as a person, and mixologist. If you haven't had her shots, you're missing out. Don't sleep on this place! 5 stars all the way! 6 stars for Alison.

The food was not that great but here for a team party. We did have the pleasure of Miss Bella! She was phenomenal with keeping track of our orders drinks and just overall customer service. She is the best thing the restaurant has going for them. She is a sweet light hearted gem that they are so lucky to have
Sunday evening and the place was not busy at all. You still have a playground in the back and apparently on Sundays a bouncy house too. There are misting fans outside and two outdoor pickleball courts. Lots of TV screens playing different sports all over the place but the music was low enough you can hear people talking and have a conversation at the table. We had a party of 10 upstairs and the service was great. The food was pretty good and well portioned for the price. They were out of their McAlister's punch so I had to go with the Natural (their version of a Long Island iced tea) and it was weak. I have been there before and tried one of their Margaritas which was really good. Apparently there's also live music on Sunday mornings and on the weekends. We will definitely be back to eat/drink and maybe play some pickleball!
Stopped off for lunch ordered the chips/queso,fried pickles, Buffalo chicken , Chipotle raspberry wings, a Michelada Dos Equis all for $69 dollars ! Not crowded staff very friendly sat inside with plenty of TV's for all the games today. Queso a little thin, bun on burger had too many sesame seeds, but the Buffalo chicken sandwhich was very spicy & great !the wings were sweet & spicy great spot even for the kiddos plenty to do & run around ! Coming back during Christmas break with visiting family.

Good, decent food, nothing to rave about, but still tasty! The real highlight is the big, outdoorsy atmosphere, perfect for hanging out and bringing your pups along! Service was a bit on the slow side, but overall it’s a fun, relaxed spot to enjoy the day.

We were disappointed in our first visit here. It used to be Hops and Hounds (so we had our furr babies) and recently became Tommy John's Tailgate. It looked like staff was still working on a few things. Atmosphere was nice! Outside they had a couple pickle ball courts, more dining tables, kids playground and a stage for live music. Indoors looks nicer than previously. They opened up the upstairs level for additional dining and multiple tvs for sports. Very nice improvements! Service and food was another story. Our server was timid yet nice but she did not get our order correct. My fiance ordered the Hot Dog with Onion Rings and what he received was a cold hot dog with FRIES. I ordered the Chicken Cesar wrap but it seemed more like a cesar lettuce wrap. I also ordered a non seasoned chicken breast for our furr babies that we never received. I reminded her multiple times of the chicken breast and 1 hour and a half later we finally received it with fries! Not a good first experience. We may try again after it's been opened for a few more months. This place may be a good place to hang out indoors or outdoors to see a game, have a few drinks, and listen to music. And this place is pet friendly.
"Dined" in to have a beer while I waited for take-out. The space is clean, and servers seemed friendly. It was a slow weekday, and pretty quiet. I've been to this location before, and I will say that I like what they've done with the place. The food is just okay. I was looking for a little junk-food and I think I got what I was looking for, but it was nothing to write home about. It'll be just fine for beers and bar food, but I don't think I'll be ordering just for dinner again.
The portions are small. Burgers are served on tiny cookie sheets with a small portion of french fries. The chicken caesar salad had way too much dressing. Lots of plastic utensils. Wings were pretty good, hard to mess up. The $12 margarita is a small margarita, served in a tall thin glass. Mostly ice. Then, tried the regular frozen margarita Again, small glass and tasted wrong. Had a ton of sugar. Sent it back and the bartender agreed. No Chardonnay in stock. Maybe a better beer drinking place than bar & grill. Maybe they will make some adjustments. Will try back later.

Did not have a very good experience coming here. Our waitress told us we only had 8 minutes for happy hour, but we actually had over an hour. We never received the two glasses of water that we ordered. The food was not very good, and definitely not worth the price. We ordered the kids grilled cheese with a side of mac and cheese, a build your own burger with a side of broccoli, and the peach hababero wings with a side of fries. The grilled cheese, broccoli, and wings were the only decent items. The mac and cheese was watery with mushy noodles. The burger was the worst. Way over done, small, no flavor, and they forgot the sauce that was ordered for it. The fries are obviously frozen. Our waitress was basically non existent because we were seated near the playground. Also, we were practically bled dry by all the mosquitoes, so bring your bug spray. I doubt we will return, which is a shame because our little one loved the playground (the only reason I gave two stars).
Awesome spot, but bar service is 0. You have to find someone or ask every time you want a drink. Plenty of people standing around and walking by an empty cup. I’m typically a big tipper but this spot I’ve been tipping on the low side due to waiting 5-10 minutes for a refill while sitting at the bar with an empty cup. It’s a spot I go to weekly since they have good draft beers but having to hunt someone down for the next beer sucks.
Tommy John’s, was a failed partner of Lucy Coopers, they have since split ways and have not only stole here ideas, but are using here photos taken quite some time ago. One on left is from Lucy Coopers, one on right is a newer photo from Tommy John’s that they claim the took recently (Look real close can see black from Lucy Coopers Logo). Food is very sub par the awful compared to when Lucy Coopers was heading the food. Just all around awful place
Atmosphere; Very laid back and definitely what we were looking for after a long day of being in the sun. Food: They had typical menu items, but it was weird that they did not offer a kid’s burger on the menu. We ordered from the “build your own burger” section. The burger toppings were plentiful, but it was odd to have to specify toppings. Usually the burger comes with everything unless you specify, so that was different. I had ordered cheddar cheese on my burger but it seemed like imitation nacho cheese. Honestly, it was disappointing. After a long day of working outside, we wanted an ice cold beer and a mouth watering burger. The overall presentation was nice but the actual meat lacked adequate seasoning and the fries were under-salted. They do not serve pitchers of beer, and they ran out of the beer we requested. Service: Our server was attentive at first, but we had to flag her down for the check at the end. Maybe it’s just me, but I dislike when a server does not bus the table as we finish our meal. Overall, unless things are revamped, I cannot see us coming back. Which is a shame given the amount we spent.
I was really looking forward to visiting Tommy John’s Tailgate, especially after having a great initial experience with our server, Bella. Unfortunately, things took a turn when we wanted to change tables. Although Bella was more than willing to continue serving us, the manager, Eric and another manager insisted that she couldn’t, and instead had the bartender, Allison, take over. This entire situation was uncomfortable, and we expressed our feelings to the manager, noting how accommodating Bella had been. Despite our request for her to continue as our server, they chose to keep Allison. We ended up waiting a while to order wings and drinks, and our table was left with dirty plates until we finally complained. What was most upsetting was that they decided to send Bella home. Overall, this was a horrible experience for us, and it really diminished the excitement we had for our visit. I won’t be returning to this establishment.
Over Half of our group never got their food after almost two hours. Took way too long to even get drinks and it was a hot day. Waitress didn’t even come to the table until twenty minutes after we were seated despite the fact that there were a ton of waitresses working and it wasn’t overly crowded. We walked out hungry. Never again.
This was the first and last time for my family at this establishment. The outdoor play area for the kids is nice but that was the only redeeming quality for this restaurant. We went at 1pm on a Sunday and they said they were out of beef for the nachos (nbd), then when I commented that I didn’t get the croutons for my caesar salad either, I was told they were out. We asked for lemons with our teas and were brought the most obviously old and dry lemons. When I asked for more, we were brought 2 more slices with our server stating “this is all we have left”. One of those lemon slices appeared to have mold on it. When I brought it to her attention she apologized but did not try to fix the situation. I personally think the teas should at least have been comped for the trouble of being served a lemon with mold. Our drinks were never refilled. It was not a positive experience and we will not be returning. 4 meals (1 kid) and an appetizer cost $95.94. Definitely not the place to spend that money for lunch with the family. There is way better out there. Now we are aware.
First time here, we were really excited to come. Seeing the TikTok videos of the atmosphere looked like a cool place to come but the food was not at all good. The food was cold, they gave me only sauce and said that was my coleslaw which thankfully my waitress thought that was odd too and got me the correct coleslaw, my husband’s wings were raw I called the manager over to see for himself. He did credit the bill for the wings but that’s dangerous to have raw chicken served to customers. We will not be returning here.

Only that was great was the atmosphere. We went as a large group. Only 3 of our group got their food after about an hour wait. Our order never came after close to two hours. The waitress only came to us twice the whole time. Yet kept going to a group a few tables away. Not sure if it’s poor management or the employees just don’t care but cause of this I doubt we will ever be coming back, and to believe we had been wanting to check it out for some time.
Had a reservation for a graduation party today, 12/19 and arrived to a closed restaurant. I received an automated text the day before confirming the reservation. I showed up on 12/19 to a closed restaurant with a sign of closed due to "mechanical issues". NO ONE bothered to call or text to let me know of the closure. I have been a patron since the old Hops n Hounds and a really disappointed that this company does business this way. It left me scrambling for a place, on a Friday night, for a place to accommodate a 40+ party. I WILL NEVER GIVE THIS PLACE MY BUSINESS, EVEN IF IT OPENS BACK I UP AGAIN!
I really wanted to like this place as it is very close to where I live and I love to support local restaurants. However, I was extremely disappointed in my visit there. I don’t normally write reviews, but this place left a bad taste in my mouth. Let’s start off with the good stuff: The atmosphere: plenty of nice outdoor seating with corn hole and pickleball. Truly a fun little hang out spot! The bad: Everything else unfortunately. After we sat down we waited 15 minutes just for someone to greet us. My husband and I had agreed if someone didn’t take our order by 7pm, then we would leave, but our waiter showed up to our table right at 7. Yay! We both ordered one beer each as well as two waters. Water was the first thing to be brought back and that took 5 minutes. We kept looking around thinking the beer shouldn’t be too much longer. Well the beer ended up taking 20 minutes just to come out. Now I completely understand that things get busy, kegs need to be replaced, or stuff happens, but gosh two beers shouldn’t take that long! And if they do take that long, I’m usually quick to apologize if I’m in the waiter’s shoes. We were there on a Friday night, but it wasn’t incredibly busy. The waiter had no remorse for how long it took. Because we didn’t want to wait another 15-20 minutes to pay we asked to pay immediately after getting our drinks. The two beers cost $19! Probably the most expensive beers I’ve seen since moving to San Antonio. Also, live music is promised on Friday and Saturday nights, but there was no live music to be had. So just another reason why I was bummed about this visit. TL;DR: didn’t have a great experience with long wait times and expensive drinks.
Starting with the good. Love the location and atmosphere. The bad is everything else. Every time we go it takes at least 5-10min after seating us for someone to wipe our table down and greet us/ask if we want something to drink. We started just going up to the bar and ordering a drink because it takes forever. Which when we do go up to order they are hesitant(not with the best attitude) and ask us to ask the server but there isn’t one that will come by. We ordered food and it took over an hour for nachos and an app. The kids meal got comped because that took an hour and a half. And not once did someone come and check and ask if we need anything. That was only after we went and asked the kitchen if they forgot about us. The food we finally got was average but at least we are with good company. Finally we are leaving and want to play a game. It’s not taking dollar bills so I ask for 4 quarters and they “don’t have any coins”. Whattt, so you can’t pay cash here apparently. Sucks because hops and hounds was so great and this is just not it.
