We had a great time, the food was delicious, special thanks to Yolanda!!
Excellent food and super cool atmosphere! Vegetarian friendly. The cheese tamales are delicious! Highly recommended! Special props to our server, Yolanda! Thank you!
We've come here several times with a large family party. They seat us in the side room with the fireplace and it's so welcoming and cozy there. The service and food is ALWAYS excellent! There are many Mexican restaurants in Old Town, but we love that this one is a little more quiet and not as rowdy as inside Casa de Reyes. I also love that kids eat free here. Big plus for us. 👍🏽
Bara Bara never disappoints! The food is absolutely delicious, and every time we visit the place is spotless and well taken care of. The atmosphere is fantastic and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. The service is a solid 10 out of 10. Our server today, Pedro, was incredibly attentive, respectful, and engaging — he kept great conversation and made us feel right at home. I ordered a margarita and it was fantastic. The food always comes out on time; we’ve never been left waiting around. Honestly, I’d come back just for the chips, salsa, and beans alone — they’re that good. Highly recommend Bara Bara! Pedro is a phenomenal bartender and truly a master of his craft. Great customer service is hard to find these days, but if you come here, you’ll definitely experience it with Pedro. He makes you feel like family — like you’re coming home for a drink and a great time. GO BILLS!!!
Food was amazing. I got red sauce enchilada and two cream enchiladas the red sauce was cheese and white sauce with chicken. I was greeted and helped by Victoria felt like home nice and cozy plus the restaurant is 1 minute walk from Old Town San Diego trolley station.. I will come back again for next time I want to add two over medium eggs on top of my enchiladas.
You had me at complimentary *seasoned* chips and salsa. We sat outside and really enjoyed the colorful atmosphere and stunning decorations. We ordered the nachos and the fajitas and both did not disappoint. Even though Old Town was packed (we were lucky to find a parking spot near the restaurant), we were seated immediately which was nice. Really enjoyed our time here and spent some time walking around Old Town after our meal to try and burn off some of those chips and salsa.
It’s been years since I last visited this restaurant. We came to celebrate my birthday and this restaurant did not disappoint. I can say this restaurant has not lost its favor! Victoria was our server and she was wonderful. She the most upbeat and bubbly personality. She brought out our drinks and the margaritas were just as delicious as I remember. Service is fast here. I enjoy all of the Hispanic decor. You several areas of dining to choose from.
I've been to Barra Barra many times and their highlight has always been their overall food quality. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten there. However, my absolute favorite thing they serve is their chips, salsa, and black bean dip. Especially the chips! I had a combo fajita order with chicken and beef. The taste was amazing. The portion was perfect. My nephew got the mole which had amazing flavor as well. The price was reasonable for the service and quality of food we got. The staff was very friendly. It wasn't very busy at the time but for some reason never got our water refilled until we asked for it. Otherwise, no complaints. I do highly recommend Barra Barra as the best place to eat if you're in Old Town!
We saw this place as we were in Old Town area. What are two nieces.. they had the kids eat free with the purchase of an entry. The chips and salsa were great..Ice tea was good as well. Had the steak burrito and chicken tacos. It was very good. Service is good. Both flour and corn tortillas are made fresh. Service was good as well. This is in a tourist area, so it's good still. But since the prices are bit high we won't be back soon. Other than that it's recommended. 👍
Very delicous food and nice staff, extremely filling. This place is a sister shop to Casa de Reyes and at this place kids 10 and under eat free. Have always loved the authentic Mexican food and vibes of Old Town San Diego. Their black beans are so creamy. It can be a bit pricy but it's worth it.
I honestly was not expecting much from this place but I was so surprised. This was probably one of the best places I've ever eaten in my entire life. Even more so is there than most educated I've ever seen a restaurant with food allergies. They knew exactly what cross-contamination was and being Celiac this was the easiest place to eat on earth. I had the crab stuffed salmon. As somebody who has white level of spicy I was a little bit nervous to order this. Just had the perfect amount of space and the portion was so filling. Normally when you order Seafood you leave hungry but I was so content. I actually would have licked the plate clean. I'd do some sketchy shit for this plate. The flan was also very good but small for the portion size.
Yummy Mexican food at Barra Barra! Beautiful restaurant that really fits the Old Town ambiance. We started out with the Barra Barra sampler with comes with many appetizers like quesadilla, mango seabass ceviche, nachos, and more. It’s really big so we had to take to go. For entrees we had the seafood paella with shrimp and mussels and the crab stuffed salmon. Everything tasted really good, you’ll definitely leave satisfied. We also had the Acapulco and spicy mango margaritas which were great. We sat on the dog friendly patio, and the restrooms also have changing stations. Great, friendly, and quick service. Recommend! Beautiful area with great shops to walk around after.
Great Mexican restaurant located at the center of Old Town. It has indoor and outdoor seating that is nestled in the central location of Old Town. The outdoor seating has a great view into the Old Town courtyard. The service is always amazing. They ensure you are served and that your food is always hot and ready. The wait staff speaks both English and Spanish. The chips with the bean dip and salsa are such a unique touch you can only get here. On this visit I got the salmon ceviche with the mango salsa. It was a deliciously curated portion. I recommend it for both kids and adults. It's a nice sit-down place for a date or a family outing. I will be back.
Quick and excellent service. Food was delicious, especially the carne asada and shrimp. The margaritas were huge and tasted amazing. Yolanda was great and very accommodating

We were walking around in Old Town and stopped at this place to enjoy their happy hour specials. Half price margaritas, beers and tacos. Can’t go wrong with that. We enjoyed ourselves, the drinks were good.
This place is a pretty good restaurant. I had a cheese enchilada and a pork tamale. The cheese enchilada was really good and the pork tamale was okay. Rice was good too. The atmosphere on the patio was really nice.
This is in one of the best locations in Old Town San Diego. It has an outdoor patio seating area, perfect for people watching. It has really cute old west decor and even an antique wagon in the center of the patio. The complementary chips and salsa come with black bean dip which when served warm is delicious! The service is decent and the menu options and prices are typical for a tourist place. The food is also what you'd expect at a touristy restaurant. What this place has is location! It was a nice day and we enjoyed our lunch.

Small portions, Was handed a plate so hot it was a burn hazard. Yes I know I ordered sizzling fajitas but this one was crazy. Also the paper on tortillas was burnt and the food was lukewarm. I've had better here ( Same dish). Only the sizzling plate was actually hot.
First time dinning 🍽 at this restaurant in Old Town San Diego. Nice atmosphere and the food is surprisingly 👌 very tasty 😋 The chips and salsa was very good 👍 with just a slight spiciness and also served a side of black beans 🫘 I ordered the 3 combination (no cheese on my plate); beef tamale, chicken enchilada and carnitas taco 🌮 this plate 🍽 had really good taste 😋 the beef tamale 🫔 was good but had just a small 10% amount of beef and about 90% masa. The chicken enchilada was very good 👍 with plenty of chicken. The carnitas taco 🌮 was delicious 😋 with the right ratio of carnitas and veggie toppings. I ordered the flan 🍮 for dessert and was disappointed 😕 they added whipped cream and chocolate syrup to the flan 🍮 and a cherry🍒 on top as if it was an ice-cream sundae... WHY? 🤔 flan 🍮 should be served alone with the caramel syrup only! Now although the staff was professional they lack humor, laughter and interaction with the guest's. The waiter came by a few times to see 👀 if everything was okay 👍 but they never asked if we wanted anything else, more drinks 🍸 or water 💧 and never asked if they could remove our plates 🍽... actually we had to move them to the side so we could finish enjoying our drinks 🍹🍸 That's why I gave only 2 ⭐️⭐️ stars for service. On a side note... Food wise, I recommend this restaurant 👍 over the other busier restaurant next door, Casa de Reyes. The food next door is not so great... they lure their guests with music and friendlier staff but the food is not great and the rice tends to be dry and most of the other dishes lack taste. I should know because I would take guest's there 🤦
We haven’t had great experiences in the past with the food being mediocre and the service subpar but it was busy & closest to us & kids eat free was tempting. The hostess said there was a quince and suggested we go to Casa De Reyes. Left us there standing confused. Is she telling us or is she asking us because the wait will be longer or what in the world? lol Done with this restaurant. Went to Casa De Reyes and paid $10 a cheese quesadilla for our kiddo but the food was bomb and the service was great.
This place has been in the old town community for years. It was only few years ago they change owners and menu and place and even services has change. It used to be more family friendly. Today, is more profitable for tourist attraction, not family local friendly anymore. Today, I finally got to go to this place after long years since it reopen with new owners. Food service, menu were not the same. To locals like me that love to go to tourist sides to see and taste the cuisine they provide is my favorite. However, I am deeply dissapointed about this place alltogether. The staff, the food, the service once again, and the taste of food not the same. The waiters are not fair to customers alike. Tey selective of people whom they will treat better than others, as a local I was treated poorly. I was not happy for the long wait, while there was chairs and tables available still before new customers arrived. Waited 45 minutes for a table. Secondly, they did not even ask nicely to illuminate the table with a candle as they did for other tables and clients. Thirdly, my daughter was tire and bored of waiting. She did not like the meal very much either. Fourth, the waiters was not able to explain what in the menu can be consider for a child to eat free in this restaurant with an adult companion that order something to eat already. Another thing I noticed, this waiters and workers never know anything when ask about what they have on the menu or even what does it mean kids eat free with an adult ordering from the meny and paying full price. They need to inform everyone alike about those changes and their menus. I will not recommend this place to anyone anymore. 10 years ago this was a great place, it had culture, great manegement, good waiters. Today, even as a local I felt like third class, me and my family felt uncomfortable about the treatment from this workers. We felt out of place and unwelcome. This place is for people that act more like tourist and they can do whatever they want and sell whatever they want. I have gone to other places where i been fairly treated and given good mexican and american food in street food stances where the tortillas and meat are so delicious and fresh and I will say, it is worth it. I rather support places where the welcoming is present at the first foot on the door than go to fake state of the art restaurant that feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming even for locals. This place can do better, however, I guess it is worse than that. Deeply sad for this changes in Barra Barra. You are not the same restaurant anymore and I know my locals anywhere I go. This one has become a dissapointment as of today indefinetely.
Food and ambience were good. We liked the black bean dip. However, service was really poor to the point of aggravating and offensive. No water was refilled, the food took too long, and Yolanda the waitress was on her phone when I had to go ask for the check because no one had brought it and we were just sitting and waiting. People who arrived after us had finished and left and the restaurant was empty. Yolanda just didn't care to help us as another review stated. Very rude. If I had another waiter or waitress, I would return but she ruined the experience for us.

Looking for a satisfying Mexican meal but did not find it here. The food was almost universally subpar and high priced for what was served.
Dropping food on guests. Not flexible with side orders. Mis communication, forgot my child’s order, long wait time. My food sat under a heat lamp until the cheese was the texture of plastic. My niece’s fries were cold. Don’t let the kids eat free lure you into this trap. Manager was sassy. Wish I didn’t. So many other better authentic restaurants nearby. This one 2 thumbs down!
