Opinions de Bear Buns Bakery And Cafe San Diego
We were looking for a cute little bakery to enjoy a nice hot cup of cocoa, and we came across Bear Buns Bakery. This place is soooo cute. I ended up getting a delicious hot honey lavender latte and a bagel and my friend had a nice hot tea and a cinnamon roll. Everything was so good. And the service was top notch. We were able to relax and enjoy the nice calm atmosphere of the bakery. I strongly recommend this place. I will definitely be back.
Great little neighborhood spot - coffee, breakfast sammies and rolls. You can taste the love and can’t recommend enough. Very friendly service also.
This cafe is so clean and inviting! I ordered the basic breakfast sandwich and it was so simple but so yummy 😋 i also ordered the banana bread pudding with coconut cream on top. It was so delicious! Def coming back to try everything else!
The cinnamon rolls are out of this world! A MUST! It’s a bit of a unsuspecting find but such a hidden treasure!!! We’ve come back 2 times already during our visit and each time plan our next treat. The cookies and pastries look to die for. Also the service…EVERYONE here is so friendly & welcoming! Kim the cashier has been a repeat favorite & friend of ours. 10/10!!!
We chose by small, local cinnamon roll bakery instead of a trendy pop-up and was really glad we did. It’s a mom-and-pop kind of place with a cozy, unpretentious feel. The cinnamon rolls were exactly what we were hoping for. It was soft, warm and sweet, and just the right amount of cinnamon and frosting. It’s the kind of treat that really satisfies a craving without being too over-the-top. The menu is simple but solid, with a nice selection of baked goods if you’re in the mood to try something else. Everything looked fresh and homemade. Service was quick and the staff were kind, which made the experience even better. There’s limited seating inside, but if you want to linger for some time, it’s perfect for grabbing something delicious to go or enjoying a quiet bite if there’s space. I love finding spots like this - a small, local business that. Definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby, and a great place to support if you want something local and genuinely good. I’m really glad to support this small business and eat a delicious cinnamon roll!
This was a great little cafe to come for breakfast. We already had coffee, so we just stopped here for a bite to eat, but we realized we would love to come back and have coffee and breakfast in the restaurant another morning. We both got the birdie breakfast sandwich, and I got a lemon bar. The sandwhiches were amazing and a big portion, which was nice. I just wish there was some sauce to get with it since It was a bit plain to me. The lemon bar was flavorful and not too mushy. It was very sweet and good to have after a big breakfast sandwich.
Super tasty sticky bun, earl grey cookie, and sipping chocolate. Staff were friendly and helpful in choosing what to order. Interior is neat and cozy. Seating is available inside and outside. Parking is limited.
Great customer service, wonderful drinks, and yummy food! Plus, they offer a large variety of sugar-free flavors. If you’re looking for the perfect breakfast sandwich option — I recommend the Bella.
Was craving a cinnamon bun, this definitely hit the spot!! Moist and perfectly sweet! And the salted maple cold brew with foam was amazing too!! Perfect pick-me-up.
My friend and I finally came here after his persistence of a place with the best cinnamon rolls anywhere, ever. He is 100% right. The cinnamon rolls, and the brown butter banana nut muffins, are worth the trip no matter where you live in the area or if you’re just visiting. Their iced chai latte with oat milk is also good to go. The only thing I wish is that I came here sooner!
I’ve been going to bear buns bakery for at least 5 years and it’s great every time. The Bella sandwich is my go to, occasionally swapping bacon for turkey. Good coffee. When looking for a sweet breakfast the cinnamon rolls and sticky buns are a must!

Bear Buns Bakery is a cozy little neighborhood spot that’s perfect for a relaxed breakfast or coffee break. The place has a warm, local feel, and you can tell it’s a small bakery that really cares about what they make. Their pastries are the highlight — especially the cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, and fresh muffins. Everything tastes homemade and freshly baked, with rich flavors and great texture. They also serve good coffee and simple breakfast sandwiches, which makes it an easy place to stop for a quick morning bite. The atmosphere is friendly and casual, and the staff are welcoming, which adds to the charm of the place. Overall, Bear Buns Bakery is a great little hidden gem if you’re looking for fresh pastries and a comfortable neighborhood café vibe.
This is my neighborhood bakery! If you are going to do anything in Serra Mesa like get together with friends, escape chaos at home (like construction noise), do laundry next door, you ought to come by and sample a big crumbly top muffin or breakfast meals/sandwiches. Support small business.
The gluten free carrot muffin was stellar. Coffee and espresso is fresh and and wonderful. This is a hidden gem!
Great little mom & pop bakery in Serra Mesa. Got two cinnamon rolls and a scone. Everything was very good.
We ordered the Birdie and Bennie sandwiches, along with a vanilla iced latte and an iced chai tea latte. Overall, the food and drinks were really good! We would have loved a bit more hollandaise sauce on the Bennie sandwich, but it was still delicious. The customer service was friendly, and I really appreciated the indoor decor. Would definitely go back!

Bear Buns used to have the best breakfast sandwiches. The roll it was on was so flavorful and kept anyone coming back for more. They changed their bread recipe (or from what the lady said today.. it went through an ownership change). I got a coupon from T-Mobile for 25% off so I decided to try Bear Buns again this morning. They wouldn't accept the coupon and said people keep coming in with them (free advertisement is definitely a good reason to not get them taken off the discount site) but they don't accept them as it was the previous owners that advertised this deal (from over a year ago!!). As for the order, my Chai latte was decent. A little sweet for my liking. I prefer tea/spices more than sweetness and this one was just super sweet milk. The Bennie sandwich had a single slice of ham and very little benedict sauce. It's just not the same as the one they used to have that was full of flavor. The bun is bland and you don't taste the ham or hollandaise at all- only the egg. For $8, you might as well go get two sausage egg cheese mcmuffins and a hashbrown.
Today i ordered a 12oz coffee, but the cup i received looks more a 6oz serving. Charging nearly $6 for this amount is very disappointing and misleading. I hope you review your portion sizes and ensure customers receive what they pay for.
I've found out about Bear Buns Bakery just from driving by one day so I checked them out. I first went mid afternoon and they were closed. Found out they are only open mornings and close early afternoon. So I came back before noon this time. I ordered a "Bella" Breakfast Sandwich, minus the bacon, and a blueberry muffin. To drink, I often order organic fruit smoothies and juices so I ordered the "Berry" Smoothie. I ordered to dine-in and they gave me my muffin in a bag. I had to ask for a plate. You have to help yourself with their plastic dinnerware and napkins, so I did. Since every table inside was dirty, I also had to ask for a rag to clean the table, but after a couple minutes, they brought my "Bella" to me on a plate and also saw the dirty table and cleaned it after going back to get the rag. The sandwich was just OK. I'm guessing the bread wasn't today's freshness. The muffin was very good which I enjoyed the most, but expect it's loaded with additional sugar. I was TOTALLY 100% disappointed in the smoothie. This place offers vegan-friendly food so I expected healthy food as well, but if you want "Healthy", I don't recommend Bear Buns Bakery. I know they don't advertise healthy and it's a bakery, but I didn't expect the smoothie to be "a fake" in my opinion. After drinking it, I suspected it wasn't natural so I went to the counter and asked for the ingredients. It's not really a smoothie but a refrigerated packaged "puree" mix with the ingredients starting with, Water, Sugar, mixed berries and "other" ingredients. They just blend the sugar loaded water and berry puree mix with ice and call it a smoothie. I was extremely disappointed after learning that. Shows me that I really need to be more aware and ask more questions when I order prepared foods, including my drinks. I walked away from there feeling "YUK" from drinking that so-called smoothie. Will I ever go back there? Maybe only for the muffin or a coffee, if I don't mind the sugar load, which I occasionally go for.

I'm not a huge breakfast sandwich guy but thought to try it. got the bella. the tomato was pasty, the egg is fluffy, bread ok , a little dry. better than a lot of places.
The cinnamon rolls are not that good. They tend to have an after taste for some reason :(
The iced dirty chai was good, though it really didn't taste or kick like it has two shots in it. While it did taste good, the $8+ for the drink was a bit steep. The cookie was decent though not as soft as I would have hoped. Neither the birdie(what I had) or the Bella(my wife had) would be items I would order again. Mine was fine, but nothing spectacular. Our Bella was served with turkey instead of the bacon described in the menu. That substitution may have been ok if they had said something, but came as a surprise. Based on reviews and what we heard in line, the cinnamon rolls are the thing to get here, but they were all sold out. Two drinks, two sandwiches and a cookie for $30. The value just wasn't there for me.
Only one employee tending to a total of 11 customer on a Friday afternoon. It took about 15 minutes to pick up one cinnamon roll that I ordered online. One cinnamon roll was about $7 and not worth it at all. It had a super eggy aftertaste.

Started patronizing shortly after moving in neighborhood. I had settled on the Birdie sandwich for breakfast and this was my second day in a row ordering. It was getting busy, but I waited patiently outside. After 15 minutes+ I had watched everyone get their sandwiches, eat, and leave. So I started to hover at the counter. The owner/cashier ignored me the entire time. When the sandwich maker popped out I asked her about my sandwich and she said it's next - but then told me a different sandwich name. I corrected her, but she looked confused sorting through her tickets. Then the owner popped out to hand someone their coffee and I asked her. She sort of dismissed me and mumbled "Oh, she must've forgot." But because she seemed to be gaslighting me, I held firm and told her that the sandwich maker hadn't even received my order. The owner/cashier looked at me with a darkness in her eyes and then turned around and got in an argument with the sandwich maker and another woman working their, then disappeared to the back of the kitchen. I stood waiting a few more minutes, but nothing. So I went back outside to wait another 10 mins, and realized she probably wouldn't even bother walking my sandwich out to me, as I had watched her do for various other customers. Another patron finally stepped out and notified me my sandwich was ready. I dunno, kinda thought they could at least offer me a drink, or a cookie, but at the very least some kind of apology. I looked at my phone notification for payment and it had been 30mins since I had placed the order. I guess they don't want me back!
We ordered the Sticky Bun, Blueberry Muffin and White Mocha hot coffee. The Sticky Bun and Muffin were hard. Neither of us liked what we ate...barely a few bites. The coffee was disappointing. Wasn't even warm. Won't be going back and I do not recommend.
