Went in for their taco Tuesday special I got 1 carnitas, 1 asada, 1 adobada , and 1 cabeza. They were all delicious on good warm tortilla. There salsa bar was one of the better ones I've seen more than just a couple of salsas I want to say 6? They also had pickled onions and a separate bin of hot carrots . Over all very good first impression. Will definitely be back. Conveniently right off the freeway
I give it a 5 stars, for the size of the meal and price it was decent. I really enjoyed the hot cheeto fries and the hot cheeto burrito like wow. Meat was kinda dry. Salsa was as hot, but overall I really enjoyed it
Went drive thru at midnight and so happy they were open. I had the new quesa birria tacos. So delicious with Spicy hot sauce just like I like it. Great customer service at the window considering the time. Will come back next time im in the area.so good...update I went mid day 11/27/2021 ...Still Delushious!!! Here's a photo of the birria plate
Sooo delicious! The server was also super nice & patient when answering my questions. Highly recommend the cali burrito + red & green salsa 👌🏼
Breakfast lunch or dinner its always a great decision. They have delicious carne asada chips and surf and turf burritos. My salsa of choice is chilanga. Service is always on point and served with a smile. Adult beverages are offered here too. Be back soon.

Don Rios has the best Taco Tuesday for TJ Tacos. Don't forget to try their Chilanga Green Sauce!
Best burrito I've had in along time salsa was on point
I always drive through. When Santana's in Pacific Beach disappeared. This is where we turned for our favorite Carne Asada Burrito with Chilango salsa - yummmmmm
Awesome food! Fantastic chips, great salsa, everything tasted wonderful! Don’t sleep on this place, they have wonderful staff and a great menu. I plan on being a regular.
They were very kind, clean, friendly, the food was delicious! Worth a trip to if you've never tried them before. Clean restrooms, full salsa bar, lots of drink choices, tv.
This used to be Santana's but they changed the name and kept the menu. My go to is Buenos Dias Burrito, Carne Asada Chips, Carne Asada Fries, Quesomush and Chimichanga. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Food is delicious. Service is awesome.
Good food....but for the love of God install a NEW drive through speaker system!!! Half the time it does not work and the employees have to come outside and take the order. Go see the one they have at Starbucks.
Great menu, staff were extremely nice, salsa bar was fantastic. Not much more you need really.
Delicious 😋😋😋😋 like heavenly!!! If you like Mexican food this is great! I'm more than pleased 😀
There have been a few places in and out of this location (long ago it was even a Taco Bell) and by far this is one of the best places that has been there. I got two shredded beef tacos and they were delicious. They were packed with tasty shredded beef and just the right amount of cheese and lettuce. My daughter got the chicken burrito which is one of her favorites, she said the chicken is tender and flavorful and loaded with chicken. We have also had the California burrito which was well seasoned and packed with carne asada and fries. We order online and pick up through the drive thru (usually because it's past 9pm) and they food is always ready to go when we arrive. The staff is always friendly as well. Lots of great options and worth the cost.
I wish we had a place like this in our town. We have a place called Castaneda's, and it pretty much is terrible. Everything I've had here has been cooked perfectly, it's fresh, tasty and overall really satisfying. Nice selection of tasty salsas, and I highly recommend the carne asada fries.
I feel that this is the best Mexican food in SD! Yes, even over some of the tourist spots in Old Town. Must go!!
I only get take out so cannot speak to atmosphere but this is by far my families favorite place for fast food Mexican. No reason to go anywhere else.
Cashier Angelica gave great customer service and provided everything I needed urgently & respectfully. The food tasted great and would definitely come back ! Place was air conditioned perfectly & very clean, so glad we found this place.
Enjoyed my carne asada burrito
TJ tacos are the best in SD. 3 for 7.99. Or 1.82 on Taco Tuesday. The verde salsa and soaked carrots are fire. 🔥
I eat burritos every day, got one of their carne asada and al pastor burritos and it kicks @$$. Adobada is perfectly seasoned, cheese melted, and salsa rich and flavorful.
Awesome taco shop with good food and service. Prices are decent too. The cashier is always super friendly and helpful. Extra salsa please!
Had the Chipotle Chicken Fries and was very happy with my selection. The food was delicious, the chicken moist, and the portion decent. The price was a bit higher than normal for a MxA restaurant yet I was very happy with my choice. Would eat here again and try a different dish as soon as I can.
Did a drive though order. Food was ready very quick. They also provide a kids cup for my daughter without an extra charge.
Love their carne asada burrito the burritos are big and they don't mess around! 🤤 Clean service is great hot carrots are to die for they are always perfectly soft!
Great chorizo burritos, ask for it with jack cheese.
I've had takeout here several times. The food is delicious and they are very accommodating to special requests. Its so good, the line should be out the door or around the corner!
Burritos here are so good. It’s by far my favorite Mexican spot in PQ!!
Last week was my first visit, we wanted to try a new place and this did not disappoint. We split a Campechana burrito which was excellent. The guacamole side was a bit too thin but had excellent flavor.
Mom did not have change and the register didn't either so the cook came out of pocket to give us our change. What an awesome employee and atmosphere you guys have here. The lady was also very nice up front
Ok I went here and got the bean and cheese burrito. Delicious. Went through the drive through and the lady politely asked me about sauce and it was ready quickly. I'm definitely going back.
you guys this mexican food is legit. San Diego mexican food as we all know is bunk but this sets apart from all the other joints. Their surf and turf fries are amazing! I love them I hope they don’t close down
Love their food. The carnitas tacos are yummy as are the chips with cheese/guac (I order with extra cheese guac 👍) cheese enchiladas are awesome👍 I've never had anything that wasn't yummy.
Love the california burrito and their street tacos. Do their drive in every week which is quick. Love their green salsa.
Great and quick food! The birria fries were amazing!

Closest find to our favorite Chamoy that is no longer... try the breaky burrito! The verde, ranchers, and roja are all great and flavorfull.
Food is good. Went thru drive thru and They did kind of get my order a little wrong but the food was still ok. Little pricey but seems like all places have gone up. Was not crazy about their hit sauces. Asked for mild but they were still a little spicey.
Couldn't decide between a carnitas and carne asada burrito, finally decided on carnitas, and the soccer announcer on the TV yelled, "GOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL" no doubt because he knew I had made a good decision. Best carnitas burrito I have ever had. Admittedly, the horchata was not great, so nix one star.
Decent Mexican breakfast burrito. First visit, had breakfast burrito. Was a good burrito, nothing that separates it from any other similar type restaurant. Service was good, friendly through the drive thru.
I ordered the combination plate that consisted of a cheese enchilada and beef taco. The taco itself felt less quality compared to the similar restaurants nearby with simply too much meat crammed into the taco. However, the rest of the plate, enchilada, beans and rice felt much tasted much better and of higher quality compared to the taco. Overall a nice restaurant to go to if you are in the area.
There are quite a few bad reviews about this place but remember, people are most likely to write a review when they've had a bad experience. This place is great. If it's 2am and you're craving a Cali burrito, Don Rios is your place. I would have put 5 stars but they didn't ask if I wanted sauce and I forgot to ask. I'm eating a sauce-less burrito right now but I'm not even mad about it because it's still a delicious burrito.
The menudo here was so good and the kids orderes Hot cheetos fries those were bomb too. But we also got a Machaca burrito and it didn't have much flavor. The only reason why I gave them 4 stars is because initially I had ordered a Machaca plate witch was with rice, beans and a drink, but instead they gave me a Machaca burrito. I was already hungry so I didn't even complain. I did let them know though after. 🙊 But overall it was all good.
Quesadilla, tacos, and burritos are our consistent go-to options. Their birria is good, too. Family owned restaurant with service to match. Try out their salsa bar.
Excellent Taco Tuesday deals! Staff is the best, salsas are very tasty! The regular size Achiote Chicken is my favorite...
Food was good price were good..cahier wss some how tired and that make her look rude.
This place has great tacos. My family comes here often and the option for a drive through is great. The speaker in the drive through hasn't been working both otherwise this is a great stop for mexican food.
Don Rios has been stepping it up lately. The quality of the food seems to be a little bit better than a few years ago and much more consistent. The pricing is a little bit on the higher side, but it’s not too terrible. However, that being said, I would only get certain items from here that I know are almost always consistent and actually pretty good, which are their California burrito, their shredded beef tacos, and their Carne Asada fries. The whole taco sometimes could be hit or miss depending on who’s cooking the food there, but these items are usually pretty good and consistent in terms of quality and how they’re cooked. One thing I do not recommend from here is their fajita burrito; I never seemed to wrap it right, and they go overboard on the sauce, and it just ends up being a big mess, and I don’t want to get my clothes dirty, especially if I’m eating in the car. They’re getting better, but there’s always room for improvement, but it’s much better than a few years ago.

Came here on a random night on Wednesday with my cousin who had previously tried this place and recommended that I give it a shout. Location is just right off of Rancho Penasquitos/ Poway Rd.Parking was easy. Lots of seating. Nice modern clean spanish style decor. Menu was categorized nicely and easy to follow. Notice prices were kinda steep compared to other taco shops. On this late night there was only 1 cashier (he said he just started working there) and 1 cook on the clock. Ordered a carne asada burrito and while waiting went to go load up on the various selections of salsa. Love a place that gives free grilled onions. There was only a little left at the bar but the cook was able to grill up a fresh batch for us. By the time I got my salsa's ready my number was called. Moderate sized burrito, tortilla used had a nice chalky feel and fresh to the bite (not chewy like how some places i've tried) The first bite of my carne asada burrito was delicious. Meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Had a nice charred flavor. Meat was not dry and not cold. Good amount of guacamole and i liked how they used the right amount of pico. Definitely a place to come try and will put it on my top list for a very good burrito. Ordered a carne asada quesadilla to-go but some how they forgot my order. but that was really good though. Would have been 5 stars but customer service needs work.

I had the fish tacos meal, which honestly was ok. It wasn't the best I ever had, but the carne sada fries were pretty good, and they gave you a lot too. Price wise it was a little more pricey than other Mexican places I have been too and enjoyed.
Small place next to hotel. The food was fresh and tasty. Plenty of seating in the restaurant and parking all around. There's no sit down and you have to order and take it to your table. Overall it's okay if you're hungry, and if you're staying in the hotel.
Birria tastes great. Beans are ok. Rice is awesome. They forgot my for tortillas and didn't provide salsa for chips. Menudo was pretty good
Service is aweful, food is mid. Just go across the street to Mi ranchito and get better food.
Horrible customer service but good food. Also the prices need to reflect what is written. Says monster burrito with drink then told drink is not included!
Food was okay, we ordered to eat in restaurant and we got paper plates and to drinking cups. Service was horrible.
This place used to be good ..now its just a disappointment everytime. They never follow special instructions. I always ask for crispy fries because they hardly cook them ..they are always basically raw and soggy. They have only one cook and one cashier usually so if any more than 3 people come be prepared to wait 15 mins for a enchilada. I honestly only go back when im starving and need something quick because its convenient but i dont know why i keep going ..its garbage.
Food was ok, thats why iam giving them two stars, otherwise it would be one star! Fountain drink machine was out of ice. Salsa bar was dirty. Most of the salsa containers were empty. Pickled carrots were out and tongs were floating inside the pickled juice. Had to ask the cashier twice for pickled carrots. Price a little higher than other nearby establishments. Would recommend any Primos taco shop for about same price. Better quality food and service. Also very clean.
I ordered four breakfast carne asada burritos. They gave us what basically were potatoe burritos. Very bland and not made with much care. The salsas were tasty but I will definitely not go back for breakfast burritos.
Stopped by looking to feed my party of 6, no one in the restaurant. Didn't get a chance to eat because no one was interested in asking us if we wanted to order in the 5 min we were standing there.

We kept saying we should try this place and finally did. The woman who took our order was very nice, and the food came out quick,..too bad it tasted horrible! How do you make a taco shell taste like burnt popcorn? The beans tasted like they come from a can, and I'm pretty sure they use Rice-a-Roni. The place was filthy. It was a Saturday night at dinner time and we were the only people there. Every table and/or chairs was dirty, the floor was sticky throughout, and one table had dirty bowls on it from the time we got there until the time we left...which we regret we didn't leave when we first walked in. Nobody showed up at the drive-through until just before we were leaving, so why couldn't they have cleaned the tables then rather than chit-chatting? I had read the reviews and expected more since their recent reviews were much better. I am now wondering if they wrote those reviews themselves.

Took a bite out of the chicken taco, all I got was chewy tendon and fatty parts. Overpriced, and gross. The "fresh" grilled onions were far beyond fresh. The first sign should be the empty restaurant, do not come here.
They are in so much trouble! The cook or worker gave thr Doordash driver the wrong order. When we called Don Rios, they kept hanging up on us. A Doordash manager called us right away apologizing for the incident for the behavior and is giving us a full refund. What cowards who won't answer their phones knowing they are in so much trouble. The poor Doordash driver did nothing wrong and I will make sure his supervisors know. Shame on this Don Rios and their employees.
I have always loved this place. After tonight I won't be returning back. I found a toothpick in my taco. Completely grossed out! Customer service not great. I called to let them know and they didn't seem to care. Didn't say sorry. Just ok thks. Not the service I expected. 👎
Picked up food drive through after a long day. Food came out quick but maybe too quick. Drove home only to see that my chicken Quesadilla was chicken and tortilla no cheese. Called back and girl said I thought you ordered a Chicken Quesadilla but you didn't say cheese....I told her that a Quesadilla comes with cheese.
Food was low end .The speaker system didn't work the girl keeper asking to repeat my self. The Bierria was chewy. Burrito was dry and I would review the chicken tacos but never got them after repeating myself 10 times
The California burrito was terrible. It was so dry I ended up using 7 salsa containers just to bring moisture into the burrito. The fries where either cold or burnt. Chicken was bland. Go to McDonald's across the street instead
Took them 15 min to figure out they had no elote. Then I get a la Paz and they forgot the rice. $10 for one burrito and it was terrible. And also got a cup of ice with a splash of horchata. Thanks night crew your doing great...
My order looked like someone crapped on a plate and served it to me cold. Plus there was some young boy working behind the counter who could obviously care less. How do you mess up cheese enchiladas and a bean tostada? Skip this place, or you might regret it.
Update: I got diarrhea from this place ;(( Service is okay, but the food isn't that good. I just wanted to try it out since it was near by but honestly I won't be coming back here.
food tasted good. portion was tiny. service was lacking
If I could give 0 I would. Called when we received the wrong order. Manager admitted she had 2 similar orders and Keyed mine in wrong. All she would do is say sorry and contract grubhub. Admitted her mistake but laugh and said I won't do anything. Don't waste your money. Even after a refund I still lose $13 for food we never received
Terrible service! The heavyset Hispanic girl with the pink mask and her black hair in a ponytail gave me my order wrong. In the drive-through while she was taking my order she was very rude. And then when I went to pay for my order at the window she forgot my order and my condiments. Then when I asked to speak to a manager she said no. She didn’t even mention if there was even a manager there or not. I’m very disappointed with her customer service. I usually come here every once in a while to get my food. I love the people but she’s just doesn’t have any manners.
3 stars only because the food is good. If you use the drive through don't expect any efficiency to it. You'll be there 15 minutes or more... Update. Back for a second time and they took over 25 mins through the drive thru. Messed up two parts of my order. The burrito and quantity of rolled tacos. Quite literally the worst run business I've ever seen.
I've had better Mexican food and service before. I just ate there for the first time and it was okay, then I get some limes and salsa from the salsa bar and the only female employee there at the time asked me why I needed all of those cups. She was rude, I was leaving and she said excuse me why do you need all those...3 cups... Salsa and limes. I'm not going back
Not too many things I expect from a generic taco shop. Be open when you say you are and have good hot sauce. Don Rios does not know when to be open. Their hours are all wrong. It says 24/7 on their drive thru sign and it says 1am on google but they are closed now at 11:35pm. Thanks a lot wannabe taco shop. Not going here anymore.
The birria was full of fat, I got only one tortilla and no chopped onion, no cilantro, no salsa, no lime. Not the experience I expected. How can you have birria like that? This is your perfect restaurant if your standards are floor low. Horrible tasting and looking food
Terrible food. Super overpriced. We got a carne-no-thank-you burrito and four tacos: two potato and two chicken. My first bite was into a chunk of cartilage and I simply couldn't even take another bite. Overall a bad experience of quality, and a mediocre experience in customer service. Not coming back.
I used to be a customer but not anymore.while placing my order next to the cashier counter,my eyes caught how they were working in the kitchen. So disgusted.the cooks don't have any idea about food safety.examples: wiping their sweaty forehead with the same hand handling the food.liking fingers, wiping hand with their clothes, putting raw meat on the same counter designed for wrapping burritos and other orders.wiping the counter with dirty cloth then going back to holding the food. the kitchen is dirty . I had to share these observations for customers health safety and to bring the owner's attention to this matter.
Unfortunately their customer service is seriously lacking. I came through drive thru and ordered a beef taco with the advertised side of rice and beans to make it a combo. Should have been $6. Instead they charged me for separate sides of rice and beans, making the total $8. I asked about this, and was met with attitude. They apparently don't know about trying to be diplomatic or trying to please the customer. They claimed they had no copy of the receipt, and insisted impatiently that I produce the receipt. Then the woman asked for the food back (? To make the sides smaller??), and snapped her fingers as she did so. At that point I requested a refund. The other woman came over and asked, "WHY?!" They started talking about me in Spanish, apparently not realizing I speak the language. At the end of this, they handed me my receipt showing the credit, then turned away. They never apologized for their error, my inconvenience, nada. Terrible customer service. They don't have a clue how to run a business.
I got a breakfast burrito and asked for no meat on it. The first bite I found a piece of meat and so I brought it back and they told me there was no meat in it... the lady had such attitude about it too. They just refolded the same burrito and gave it back and I found more in it when I finished it later.. I'm vegetarian so that kind of bummed me out that they couldn't just remake it for me... Also, a lady came in and told them they got her to-go order wrong and it seemed like they didn't even know how to make what she ordered, as the cashier was telling the cook what was to go in it.. Go to Mi Ranchito across the street or Chamoy in Poway; Better service and food.
Very disgusting food. As soon I came home from ordering from the drive Tru and open my taco box a fly flew out. I called and complained and they said how can you prove it? Threw all the fly tacos away. I wouldn't order here again. This place deserves a food department call.
We're very disappointed today. We come here regularly. The food is hit or miss, sometimes bland, sometimes salty or cold but it's open late, so we return. But tonight we were given the wrong drive thru order. We got home, took bites, realized it was not our order, gagged a bit, called the restaurant and explained the situation, asked if it was okay to trash the burritos we had bitten into and could we come back to pick up our correct order? On the phone a man said 'okay' many times. So we drove back with two receipts in hand (our order receipt and the wrong one that came attached to the wrong order, all with timestamps - we got the order of the car ahead of us apparently.) I explained the situation to a different cashier and she just refused to make good on our order or to return our money. Even though the person on the phone said it was okay that we threw the burritos away. So instead of going home, fishing them out of the trash, and returning a third time, we decided to take a break from this place. I hope to forget about this soon, but damn, just shocked at how they screwed up multiple times and we were still out $25 and two burritos.
Got the carne asada buenos dias burrito, it says it comes with beans and it did not the fries were not thoroughly cooked and were raw like biting in an onion, pretty bad for a $14 burrito
If I could give this place a big fat zero stars I would :). Me and my girl went there at like 10 ish expecting to get some bomb Mexican food. This food was in-fact not good what so ever. We got menudo and the la Paz burrito. The menudo could have been good but there was about five pieces hominy in the soup and the whole thing was just filled with nothing but fat. And the burrito was trash. It wasn’t seasoned at all and just a 0/10. I wanted to go and get a refund and bring the damn food back saying how trash it was. Not to mention for those two items it was 40 dollars, and it took forever to get our food. I should have gone to McDonalds across the street. Never going to this place again and you shouldnt either 😁
61 dollars for 3 burritos is absolutely robbery
they dont honer their reward card. after 20+ plus times of visit i got a more than dozen of their reward card and to exchange just 3 damn mini tacos and got rejected due to stamps are no on the same card. loyalty means nothing to them. We will not go again.
FOOD POISONING!!!!!!!!!! Went there and got Carne Asada Tacos for my wife and a Carne Asada burrito on 2/24/25. We both have had upset stomachs since, and I’ve had to take PTO for the last two days!
Drove here at 12:15am because it said online that it was open until 1am. It was clearly closed when we got there at 12:23. Either the online hours are wrong or the store is closing early; either way, something should be corrected so we don’t waste time.
They truly earned a zero star rating. 1st time going to this restaurant. We will NOT be returning. The drive thru attendant (Angelica) was rude. Her demeanor was lazy and her customer service was lousy The food itself was extremely disappointing. The size of their burrito is a joke. These things were fake food…..play food SMALL. Like you guys shouldn’t even call it a burrito, your portions size is ridiculously under par. We ordered two burritos. A carne asada burrito and a mix burrito (only comes with beans and beef). I have children that only wanted beans and beef. I had to ask to make sure that was all the burrito came with. Angelica confirmed that the burrito consisted of only beans and beef. $26.17 cash because it will cost more if you use a card to pay. For two burritos that where the size of a regular size taco just wrapped in a flour tortilla. Prices are too high for such small portions. Not to mentioned that when we got home they gave us the wrong order! My kids did not eat the so-called mix burrito. The receipt said mix burrito but they gave us a shredded beef with veggies “burrito”. My children did not eat that “burrito”. I tried calling the number listed online but it is disconnected. SMH 🤦♀️.
Honestly it wasn’t what I was expecting. The burrito was VERY underwhelming. We went around 11 and ordered 2 burritos. One mix burrito with shredded beef and beans, the other a carne asada burrito with pico de gallo. Our mix burrito wasn’t even bean or shredded beef, it was just shredded beef and pico de gallo. The burritos were the size of Taco Bell’s burrito, slim and short. The quality not even great, some of the meat seemed burnt, no flavor in them and overwhelming lackluster. If I could rate it a zero I would. We wanted to call and see for a refund but the phone number wasn’t even connected so we couldn’t.
I am extremely disappointed with my recent order. I ordered shrimp burritos but I received the wrong food entirely. This is incredibly frustrating. I hope the restaurant takes better care in fulfilling orders in the future, as this experience has left me very unsatisfied.
The food was not good. I'm not going to say it was disgusting because it's edible but taste was far from good. Their was flavor but no seasoning to the food. The shredded beef in the enchiladas was bland, the chicken in the flautas was bland but was completely taken over by sour cream and cheese, the rice was dry and old with no seasoning, the beans texture was good but again, no seasoning. It's a good location because it's the closest type of restaurant in the area but I will travel further away for better food. The service was fast with a smile which is a bit concerning because the food is pre-made.
I ordered 3 TJ tacos and 4 rolled tacos. I didn't get the tacos which I was charged for. The rolled tacos were the worst I ever had! The guacamole tasted like it came out of a tube. The cilantro was brown and wilted and the taquito shells were soggy. I will never eat at this disgusting place again!
The salsa was as bland as cardboard, the guacamole was watery, the chicken was flavorless and the punch was so diluted I can't tell what flavor it was. I threw everything away except the refried beans.
Don't stay at the La Quinta next door or you have to hear the people at this place blast their music until 1 AM
I threw away more than half their food. The only things I appreciated about this place were the pictures of the food and the close proximity to my hotel. The food was terrible. The chicken was tasteless, the guacamole was watery and the chips were limp. The server was also unhelpful when I asked questions about food I was not familiar with. I suggest this place be avoided
