Great Mexican food. My favorites are the breakfast burritos, chilaquiles, and al pastor burritos
Very good tacos. Appropriately sized for the price. Chef was funny and checked in on our table to make sure all was good and to make some conversation. Interesting historical photos hanging on the walls. Will go back if I'm nearby.
My fave. Drove past this place for years and was missing out. Now it’s a staple. Love their hash brown burrito for breakfast! Add avocado. Staff is nice and friendly and there’s cool pictures of poncho villa on the walls.
My first time eating here. It was big portions. Homemade Delicious food .
The food was delicious. The combo #1 is a cheese enchilada, which I believe the in-store menu states. But the online menu just says enchilada with no specifics. Again food was delicious...yum.
Had the quesabirria… so so good. Salsa had great taste and the heat level was good too. Would definitely come back. Pretty big menu, lots of good options
I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT!! Authentic food, and amazing service. Always fast and very kind staff. One of my favorite lunch spots and exactly what I crave when I want a delicious burrito.
LOVE EL REY! My go-to order is the Hashbrown burrito or chipotle chicken fries! AMAZING! Great little mom & pop spot! It's a gem! Especially if Senora is there, she is the best! :) So please be kind to her! <3
Carne asada burrito was off the hook loved it . Wife was happy with her torta de langua...but when my daughter open her To go food box it was heaven they have a such beautiful and delicious craving torta de Adovada woooow we were fighting because we couldn't get for her to share ....melted yellow cheese just made it so special.....we know what we are all ordering next time 😋
The horchata was great - not too sweet. We also tried the fish and shrimp burrito which was so good and great portion size.
Excellent taste and value. I enjoyed the carnitas plate (#7) and girlfriend had beef tacos and enchiladas (#14). Both of us were extremely pleased... Will be back, friendly staff to boot
Expanded location with lots of dining tables. Nice proportions. Carne Asada seasoned properly. Tostada heaped high. Sopes were flavorful - not doughy. Two TVs available; lots of beer choices as well.
This place is the best! I've been coming here for 3 years now and i still order the same 3 Birra taco plate with soda. Always consistently delicious and i highly recommend folks to check this place out. Also another noteworthy mention is how ridiculously HUGE CALI burrito is! Take my word for it!
Amazing Hashbrown breakfast burrito. A+++
Discovered this place on accident. We were running late after exploring downtown and Old Town San Diego during the holiday rush. They have one of the best tripas and lengua tacos I've had and I've tried many around the southwest. Their tacos were the biggest I've had and got full on one. Was a pleasant surprise and experience. Only thing was it was very cold inside as they kept their door open during the cold winter night.
You have to try "The Hawaiian" Burrito. Pineapple -ham- carne asada and jalapeno and Cheese. I have never had a burrito like this. 100% worth every bit. Every bit you taste the pineapple and all the great flavors. I love it I will be back next time I am in San Diego
Picture does not do justice. Food came in a nice big plate with two chiles rellenos. We shared, so I got the paper plate. The lady in the front was really nice.
really good local Mexican place. the food was great, we just didn't realize how big the portions were so couldn't finish.
THIS PLACE IS INCREDIBLE. I got the chilaquiles with chicken, almost life-changing and huge portion. Do not skip this place. Tons of parking too.
Esta bueno. You can't go wrong here. I had the shrimp tacos and 1 tostada. Good size, good taste, and the kind of price I prefer to pay. Which is as low as possible. Si sos de Nicaragua te vas gustar los mariscos. Go for it man. I don't rate unless the food good
Nice friendly staff with an amazing cook who knows how to make a delicious veggie burrito and from what I hear an amazing Cali burrito as well. Highly recommend coming here if you're in the area. Won't regret the service or the memorable quality.

My 3rd time here and they're 3 for 3 on excellent food and customer service. They have the best menudo in PB in my opinion and ice cold micheladas! I'm looking forward to trying more of their XL menu.

They didn’t have any vegetarian breakfast burritos on the menu, but were very accommodating and substituted peppers and onions in the hashbrown burrito for the meat. It was gigantic and tasty! The salsas were spicy and flavorful. There’s plenty of seating to eat in. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was playing on their TVs, sooo random but loved the vibe. :p
Big fan of this place! Food is great and staff is so kind and attentive. Really clean environment and I love that mural (ikyk). Get the mixed burrito!
we enjoyed the California fries carbs asada style! oh, yes it was the best. will definitely be reordering!
Legit Mexican fare. Super sweet waitress helped us with our order. Prices are "slightly high" for Mexican but not REALLY. Similar to one's we had Gastown, and better. ❤️
I had a long day driving around san diego and needed to stop at the nearest taco spot. The prices were super reasonable for pacific beach area, the food was delicious, and the portions of meat were incredibly generous. Would recommend 1000 times over.
Best Chicken Buritto !! Very tasty and delicious. Definitely be back soon
Having stayed here for 5 days I ate here 3/5 of the days that’s how good this place is! Coming from Houston I will say the prices are a little high; but superrrrr authenticity with its proximity to the Pacific Beach and being in California I thought it was a helluvagood deal! Things we ordered during our visits: 1x QuesaBirria Tacos w consommé 2x California Surf Burrito ( is a California burrito w asada and shrimp ) 1x Chilaquiles ( green sauce and sunny side up eggs w beans and rice) 1x Carnitas Torta 2x Chipotle Fries w chicken Service was great the woman there was super polite and had a great attitude like seriously was super gracious with us. I ordered a side of ‘fries’ but I think she heard ‘rice’ and corrected it immediately without making it a problem. Service and food was amazing. Food: omg coming from Houston and a Hispanic household the food is very authentic and I love their presentation with the small blanched peppers or sautéed peppers depending on the dish. QuesaBirria is usually a fad and or trendy food item but out of alllllll the places that I’ve had it. Theirs was the best! Consommé has great flavor and the beef is VERY meaty and good size portion on the filling. Chips and tortillas on everything are freshly made you can tell or produced locally and made fresh! Chilaquiles ARE TO DIE FOR xD ughhhh I hate to say it ABUELA… but theirs are better! 🙊 The eggs were super rich and even their refried beans had really really good flavor for being a side item. I saw someone’s review for them and they weren’t lying! Their chicken chipotle fries are so good not too rich but perfectly fresco with the guac, sour cream and shredded cheese/ hot items contrast so well. Fries needed to be salted out of the fryer though. The torta OMG the carnitas are out of control authentic and crispy/ juicy. Bread was toasted and everything tasted great with their green salsa. The California surf burrito was my girlfriend’s favorite for me it needed some salt or lime or a salsa put into it. The unsalted fries and beans became too starchy in it for me. But my girl loved it and I loved every other dish. my only advice to change for the chef is that I know they have salt problem. Everything we ordered was great but DEFINITELY needed to be salted… if you're using lard and and high fats to cook with I think you could sprinkle some salt in there. Either way much love from Texas! I will always come back here everytime I visit!

The soft shell chicken tacos were SO good! Highly recommend. Beef rolled tacos were good too. Great salsa. 🔥
A great location for food, and vibes. Thos place is kind of hidden, I have past by it daily for months and never even saw it so visibility is low. Parking was great and a nearby liquor store adds tremendous value. First off the service. As a vegetarian burrito options are limited but man do they go above to offer you a little something extra. They were super friendly I watched them make all the food fresh. They were supper cool really early morning. The food, I got a breakfast burrito with no meat and they offered real potatoes in place of the meat option for no extra charge. The real potatoes got me as most place will charge extra amd give you a few fries as potatoes. The burrito was a great size, easily feed 2 people or a bug guy like me. Flavor was decent. The salsa bar, less options than other but the red sauce had some heat but not crazy hot. No other options beside the traditional red or green sauces. The menu, the have walls of menu options, including Chivo which I dont eat but interesting to see as an option as few places have that. The dinning area is extensive. With multiple areas including outside dinning you could easily have a party there in what looks like a party room.. Plenty of art and snack options this place is a new local favorite in that area.time to try the whole menu.
First caldo de res soup ive seen for under $30. It’s a smaller portion of course but it’s still perfect. Noticed a ton of pictures of the same guy and google said that he was a general in the Mexican Revolution. A key figure in the revolutionary movement that forced out President Porfirio Díaz and brought Francisco I. Madero to power in 1911. This man goes by the name Francisco "Pancho" Villa. Cheers to the heroes & the doers!
Had lunch here while waiting for the bike to get fixed next door. Liked the shrimp taco here. The mini tacos were good too. They have horchata too which is a plus.

Order birria de chivo great taste. Had a peace of plastic wrap in my dish. Should do bags if they refrigerated the food.

I give this place a 3. Because it did not taste authentic. I went Because it had a 4 star rating. Didn't realize it was in a prominent Caucasian area 😅 the workers were super nice! It was decent overall.
Edit: Last two visits the burritos have gone down dramatically. Cali burrito both times filled with charred ends bits as the carne...no steak cuts at all. Burnt and crunchy. Disgusting. They really do have the best cali burritos around. Size, price quality and consistency all hit 5/5
Good flavor and really big tacos! But they are very greasy

A little disappointed. The quesadilla was just meat. Lettuce. And sour cream folded inside a warm flower tortilla. NO CHEESE?!?! Flavor on everything was good but I have never in my life have I had a quesadilla with no cheese. Oh and they forgot to send our drinks with our order
I ordered online 25 mins prior to me going to pick up and still waited an additional 30 mins for my food. Wasted my break on just waiting. Never again!
Requests tip for counter “service” Garbage breakfast burritos. Salsa had a tangy taste.
I ordered my regular California burrito through Uber eats, I was delivered a shrimp burrito instead. I called the restaurant They told me they had made a mistake so I had to drive to the restaurant to pick up my California burrito that I ordered without cheese or guacamole. The woman at the cash register refused to remake my burrito after that the restaurant messed up my order twice. I even called down ahead of time to make sure they got the order details correct. I normally get good service at this establishment but the woman working the cash register on the afternoon shift was very rude and non-accommodating when the restaurant was clearly in the wrong
Used to love this place and 3 years ago gave it 5 stars. Just went back after 2 years away and quality has completely dropped. Prices are up, quantity of food in order is down, and my order was completely messed up. Asked for two hash brown burritos no sour cream, and got an egg & sour cream burrito with a tablespoons worth of hash brown & bacon at one end the burrito. Salsa was still excellent at least
Menu prices are not consistent. Walk-in price was more expensive than ordering through a third-party website. If you want the best price available order through Grubhub, they haven't updated menu prices and you pay less. The food was good, so I was frustrated with the price variance and service.

SHOCKINGLY expensive and my daughter and I have both used the toilet at least a half dozen times today… talk about Montezuma‘s revenge 😩 I had carne asada street tacos (tiny amount of meat with onion and cilantro) and chicken enchiladas plate (she had only 1 bite of my enchiladas) while she had a carne asada burrito with what my daughter called “runny avacado”. She’s also had an horchata that I had one drink of. We eat Mexican food all the time… this is our first time back at this spot after years. Again, we pretty much ate different things, but we’re both using the bathroom A LOT. Her a few times more:( The staff vibe was weird and the food is hurting my daughter…we won’t be back.
Never thought I would ever have to write a review about menudo..... a two ingredient meal, meat, and kernels.... guess its a little tough to put both together into a bowl. Called back, said we wont deliver, and we cant replace it as we are running out, come and grab the kernels..... I would if I could leave for anther half hour of lunch, that's a no. Wrong tortillas, asked for flour, everyone got corn..... 4 bowls they messed up, dont know how..... at almost 10 bucks a bowl, there has to be some proper pred and due diligence. Sorry, not coming back again. Refund would be a good place to start honestly.
COLD! Ordered a #1 combo. Geese enchilada is cold with bagged shredded cheese, not melted. Disgusting. Chicken taco was to be shredded as he said when I asked and it was a cold chunk of brown meat. Terrible. Will not go back!
A cheese quesodilla should be tortillas and cheese. Maybe some guacamole or sour cream on top. It should not have sour cream and lettuce inside of it. The cheese, should be melted. Taco Bell is better.
The people here are nice, BUT if you are mexican and eat mexican food daily this place aint it! We order a bunch of different things and i honestly almost all of it was no good. The green chilaquilles are just sour and im use to them tasting a bit lemon-y but these were too much and too soggy. My kids got chorizo burritos and those were super dry (big but so dry) we also order carnitas tacos and they were burnt! Im almost positive that they just grabed old stuff and fried it thats why it was burnt. The chips are also stale. I just was shocked with how bad the food is. I questioned if the beans are canned beans? The only dish i can say was decent was the costillas. So if u must eat here i would probably order just that.
The ceviche isnt even close to what it looks like in pic out front my lengua tacos are burnt and crispy ..thats not a place i will recommend to others
