Great food, service and location. It was so easy to park at Horton Plaza and dine here before a show at the Balboa Theater. Great cocktails, yummy apps, and perfect steaks that are served with sides, all at fair prices. We will be back!

Great experience. Affordable prices on select food choice. We had the Tomahawk steak with mushrooms and bacon Mac cheese and fried ice cream. First time here traveling from Georgia. Highly recommend. Atmosphere makes this place incredible

Freddy’s Chophouse is a relaxed steakhouse serving a variety of steaks and chops along with other American eats, as well as a wide variety of drinks. It was my wife and I’s first time here and we had a great experience. We came to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Our server was Chris and he made our experience very special. Chris was super friendly, attentive, and you can tell he loves his job. He has such great energy! He always checked on us to see if we needed anything. I went with the 34 oz tomahawk, which was only $99! My wife went with the 14 oz Ribeye. Both steaks came out cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned! No complaints whatsoever. We also had the garlic mashed potatoes and they were amazing! Freddy’s Chophouse provides a competitive price point for a substantial cut of steak. Their prices in their cuts beat any other place you can find! This is enough reason for me to come back and try their other cuts. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great steak at a great value!

Chris is the most amazing server! Made us feel so seen and appreciated. Took care of us to the T!! 1000% recommend coming to this restaurant and order the surf and turf. ❤️🎉

The atmosphere and the food here make for a great night out. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, the bacon mac and cheese, and the buttuery buns. Everything was delicous! At this time of year this restaurant embraces the Christmas spirit, which I really appreciate. The customer service was great as well. Everyone was friendly and helpful. As is the case for any downtown eating experience, the parking can be tough to find. Park 20-30 minutes before you want to eat because you may have to walk several blocks. Overall, a great experience with some delicious food. Eat up!!!

Amazing experience! I went in for dinner with my partner with high hopes considering their rating and let me say they did not disappoint! Everything from the ambiance to the food, drinks + dessert was immaculate! I definitely recommend their mashes potatoes and Sautéed burgundy mushroom as a side order and their pineapple mojito is so deliciously refreshing 🤤! Thank you to our amazing server Sidney as well as she was on top of everything and with character! Thank you for being so nice and a good time. 12/10 would recommend this place :)

Let me start off with the reception. Manager/Owner came over and personally greeted us and apologized for a small delay in our reservation - not a big deal - we hit the bar. He continuously checked in with us and made sure we were ok. CHRIS was PHENOMENAL. Outstanding service, friendly, courteous, outgoing, and engaging. The food was AMAZING!! Wow!!! 5 star experience across the board. I Loathe going downtown but this place changed my mind. Totally worth it.

Stopped in during happy hour for the 1st time… loved the vibe & decor! The bartender ladies are awesome!! Each had a cocktail & split an appetizer… pork belly toast. I’ve never had pork belly & didn’t read exactly what to expect. When it came out, I was surprised to see it w/ pesto but somehow it worked!! The espresso martini 🤌🏼, perfection!! Probably the best one I’ve had so far!! Would definitely come back for a whole meal experience

This place is amazing from our first time visit to our repeat visit, and you know there are many more visit to come. Let's start with venue aesthetics, just walking in you find yourself relaxed and comfortable. The staff is friendly with a warm welcome to ensure your time there is as good as they can make it. From the Greeter, to the host of our table, to what really makes this place the 5 star spot for me is the food! OMG is just snip of what can be said about the chef behind the scenes ensuring that each guest order is cooked superbly. When I tell you that our orders came out with excellent flavor, well proportioned, and tempered just right for the immediate tasting. Every bite was savior and delicious! If you are in San Diego and you are looking for a hidden place to eat. You can skip Ruth Chris and have a more intimate dining experience right here at Freddy's!

This was my first time dining at Freddy’s Chop House, and my experience was absolutely amazing thanks to our waiter, Chris. He had such great energy from the moment we sat down and made us feel completely welcomed. His recommendations were spot-on, and you can tell he genuinely cares about making sure every guest has a great experience. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Second visit, first review. We absolutely love this place. Their insta has a photo “Give us a try, we will give you a memory”. The Gomez family has certainly done that! The food and service at Freddy’s Chophouse are fantastic. Espresso martini to kick-off, as good as it gets. The salads, a ‘Summer’ and ‘Ceasar’ to start for $10 each – delicious and handpicked through, zero wilted lettuce and everything was as fresh as can be (Green apple wedge in the summer salad is a refreshing touch). Coconut Shrimp were next level, and the Jalapeno & Bacon Mac N Cheese blew us away – for the second time! Appreciate their solid wine and beer (IPA) selection and let me foot stomp the great service, there when you need them and not when you don’t – zero table turn pressure, just great service. Thank you, Phoebe! This place ‘gets it’ across the board. Next visit, we will be turning to the steaks – but if they are as good as the medley of small plates we feel in love with – I suspect they will be fantastic. This is one of a handful of restaurants where I can confidently say, I would fly to San Diego just to dine at Freddy’s Chophouse.

I got to say the filet and lobster surf and turf was OUTSTANDING. Staff are stellar here and that coupled with the food makes this a must stop. Make sure and save some room for the chocolate cake!!!!! Atmosphere is so cool and well designed Family thought this was best meal of our trip to SD

Saw they had a beer I wanted on tap so I premeditated my trip here. First arrived to the restaurant, really chill greeting and got all the menus. I sat at the bar, Gabriella was the bartender, very nice. All I ordered is a Negro Modela on draft. Solid atmosphere and would be nice to get food here another time.

We went for our anniversary. Food is good but the customer service is amazing. Our server was Gabby & she is the best! She makes you feel like family. I would definitely go back the service is welcoming & casual. Ask for Gabby, she will make your experience so much better!

We came back to Freddie’s for the second time and specifically asked for Samantha because she made such a great impression the first visit. She is truly amazing. Super attentive, friendly, and just has that ability to make you feel taken care. She checked in at all the right times, made great suggestions, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The food was outstanding, steaks cooked perfectly and everything flavorful and fresh. Service like that makes you want to come back. Samantha is a big reason we will.

Okay, so not really a regular reviewer, but have to really commend Frankies. We got seated at the bar right away, Francisco the bartender was awesome, right on point and poured an excellent zacapa and diet and a nice glass of prisoner for my wife. Food arrived hot and awesome. I had the Cali Burger with fries and it was all I had hoped for and more. My wife had the tenderloin skewers and they were amazing. Highly recommend Frankies, and especially Francisco :)

My partner and I were out celebrating a milestone, and had the best experience here. Starting with our server, Justin, who was absolutely amazing and ending with the best steak we’ve had in San Diego. Everyone was super friendly, the food came out quick…. And it was perfect… the drinks were 10/10 and it was altogether such a vibe. Definitely coming back.

It may have been a busy night, so it was a bit noisy. The food was average overall, but the popcorn shrimp was great. The service was also very good. My meat was good, but it could have used a little more salt. More frequent drink refills would have made the experience even better.

It was a had a nice time dinning at Freddy’s Chophouse, the drinks were great living up to the atmosphere, the food also was okay, my spouse and I were excited for the steak, so we ordered the rib eye and top sirloin, while the food quality was great, the taste was underwhelming for us as there were too much spice masking the meat flavor especially for the ribeye. Overall it was a nice experience and the staff were great.

The Art Deco/disco interior fits their stated concept, and the room had good energy without being too loud. The Pork Belly Mushroom Toast starter was the highlight—exactly as described on the menu and well executed. For my entrée, I ordered the ribeye medium-rare with garlic mashed potatoes (see the attached photo). Unfortunately, the steak arrived well done, and the potatoes were only average. I ate my meal while the rest of the table, who had ordered different items, were happy with theirs. Given the strong reviews and the restaurant’s positioning as an affordable, quality downtown chop house opened in 2024, I had higher expectations for the steak at this price point. Bottom line: inviting atmosphere, solid service, and a great appetizer, but my ribeye was overcooked. I’d consider returning to try other dishes (and would send the steak back if it misses temp next time).
