Opinions de Gami Sushi San Diego
Recently moved to the area and I was delighted to find Gami Sushi. Great fish, I got the salmon cut roll and the fish-to-rice ratio was excellent with nice cuts of salmon. We got a few other rolls and some nigiri as well - all delicious and I'll definitely be back.
I have pretty high standards when it comes to sushi, and Gami Sushi definitely met and exceeded those expectations. The rolls were fresh and delicious, and the cuts of fish just melted in your mouth. I'll definitely be back for more!
My friend and I are always in search of new sushi places for us to try. We were in Del Mar last August. I had read about Gami and wanted to try. It did not disappoint in atmosphere, service or food. Because they do not take reservations for just two, we chose to go at 5:00PM. It was perfect, we were greeted and wanting to sit at the sushi bar where there was plenty of room. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, both indoor and patio seating. It is very small, but felt very open with the tall ceilings. The vibe was energetic as it filled up fast, shortly after our arrival. Service was good, all the servers seem to cover for each other when it is busy, so you never felt ignored. We ordered a bottle of Sake while looking over the menu. We ordered Uni, Smelt Egg, Yellowtail and Salmon Nigiri. We also had a Salmon Skin Hand Roll, an Extra Spicy Fire Roll and Garlic Edamame. All the sushi looked great and tasted fresh and delicious. BTW, the Salmon Skin Hand Roll was excellent, when handed to me, one of the servers came by and told me to eat it first while the skin was still crispy...OMG it was so good. I would definitely go back again when in the San Diego area. Only negative for me is that they don't take reservation. Atmosphere: small, bright and energetic. Service: very good. Food: very good.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gami Sushi for dinner. From the moment I stepped in, I was impressed with the casual yet inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. But what truly stole the show was the exceptional quality of the fish and the use of fresh wasabi. Despite its casual atmosphere and reasonable price, Gami Sushi manages to maintain a level of quality that exceeds expectations. The friendly staff and attentive service further contribute to the overall positive experience. Whether you're looking for a quick sushi fix or a relaxed evening with friends, Gami Sushi offers a delightful combination of quality food and a laid-back atmosphere. When it comes to sushi, quality is of utmost importance, and Gami Sushi certainly delivered. The fish was undoubtedly top-notch, boasting a remarkable freshness that elevated the dining experience. Each piece melted in my mouth with a perfect balance of textures and flavors. It was evident that great care was taken in sourcing the ingredients, as only the freshest and highest-quality fish made it to the plate. Overall, I highly recommend Gami Sushi. Prepare to be impressed by the vibrant flavors and impeccable sushi craftsmanship.
I visited last night and it was amazing. The quality of fish was really fresh. Sushi platter was incredible, lemon roll was mush have item. Staff were very kinds and nice. I’m strongly recommend Gaminsushi and I will be back!
I love the atmosphere of this place. It’s so cozy and authentic. I heard they have been running this sushi restaurant for 30 years, and you can feel their expertise and tradition. Their sushi is incredibly fresh, and I was happy to see they use high-quality fish. If you want to enjoy really good sushi, this place is perfect for you.
Good sushi. Rolls was delicious. Fish was fresh. The tempura ice cream is perfect. Sounds silly but their salad was spot-on perfectly dressed and ice cold. Great service and a solid meal. Look forward to going back again!
Very good sushi restaurant with authentic taste and fresh fish. I had Otoro, Uni, Ikura and Kimedai while my son had Sunset roll. The traditional shushi was great. I don't really like the fancy sushi (Sunset Roll). The staffs were attentive, friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back again.
Amazing sashimi!! Nice service~~~ first photo is grilled salmon teriyaki(I asked for no rice). Second photo is small sashimi combo. Third one is just 2 orders of salmon sashimi and 1 order of shrimp(cooked) sashimi.
Excellent service, excellent food! I like how perfectly they cook the salmon. I was satisfied with my orders.
On a recent family trip to San Diego we stopped here and it was so good that we decided to come back again. Food was exceptional, service was great, and the atmosphere was incredible. The place was packed, but we felt very cared for by the staff by bringing extras while we waited for our main course. I know that the next time I am back in San Diego I will be coming back!
Random walk into to eat dinner. Warmly greeted and promptly served. Ordered sushi and edamame. Nigiri was really amazing. Both the King Salmon and Blue toro were exceptional. I would only order from the specials next time. Spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail were good not great. Counter seats are great. Outdoor seating is nice.
Rastaurants are pleasant and all the food is so fresh and delicious. It was a special experience to be able to choose Sake glass according to personal taste, and the people who work are kind. I highly recommend you to visit this restaurant.
Been coming here for years and it’s still absolutely delicious! Especially love the fresh wasabi, fresh fish, and a custom roll. Tom and Anderson provide friendly efficient service!
We ordered the following dishes: Poke bowl, rainbow roll, ocean roll, California roll, Ramen, beef bulgogi bowl, chicken karage, and edamame. Everything was delicious. Fish was fresh, poke bowl was sumptuous, yummarific (from my teen girls).

Really generous portions and quick service. Good price too.

The sushi was good! Fresh fish, and the rice is good, too. We liked their hot green tea. Their roles are delicious, too. Nice staff members and a cozy outdoor area, which works well in San Diego. I think their prices are a little higher than I expected, not that bad though. I would recommend it and I really give them 4.5/5.
A pleasant sushi restaurant with friendly service but average dishes. Our salmon skin salad had a mix of ingredients but no dressing and very mild flavor. The ramen was just broth and meat without any vegetables or other ingredients to balance the flavors. The fish in the sashimi set tasted fresh and the cuts were a bit above average in size. Pretty good overall.

I've been coming here and doing take out for 9 years now. Prices just went up again but quality is down. The last 2 times, the nigiri and chirashi were tasteless or even bad tasting (I don't get fancy rolls that mask the taste of the fish). I complained by phone, they told me the manager would call back but no one did. Maybe I'll give them another chance in a few weeks, given the many happy years, but I'm afraid it may be time to move on.
I’ve been to countless Japanese restaurants, from high-end fine dining to casual spots. However, I have never encountered fish with such an unusual color as what was served in the poké salad here. When I asked the server about it, they insisted the fish was fine, which was hard to believe. My husband even trusted the server’s claim and took a bite of the discolored fish, only to spit it out immediately. The service was equally disappointing. While placing my order, I paused for two seconds to think, and the server impatiently asked, “Is that all?” There was no smile or warmth throughout the interaction. Furthermore, the sushi rolls I ordered today were completely flavorless, and the rice used in them was ice-cold and of poor quality. I’ve been here several times before because it’s close to my home, but sadly, this place has only gotten worse over time. Japanese cuisine is known for its high standards in food quality and safety, but this restaurant shows none of those principles. They even refused to acknowledge obvious issues. This experience insulted the diner’s intelligence and completely ruined my mood. I won’t come back again.
3/23/2025: changing rating to 1 star. Slow service. Was sitting at the table for 20 mins without proper utilities, no drinks, and no order taken. 3 tables of people came after us, got their food and left before us. Appetizer came at the end of the meal. Gave nigiri when sashimi was ordered. Ordered king salmon but regular salmon was given. Food quality went down hill. Uni was not not clean and bitter. Fish portion got smaller. ============= 2024: visited regularly, once or twice per month. 5 stars for the quality of food and overall. Sushi was fresh, rice to fish portion was good, price was good too. Fresh sushi and friendly staff! Really enjoy the fresh fish sushi in this local sushi restaurant. We visited multiple times and today took our guests here. They too agree on the good quality of sushi.
