Opinions de Mizuki Yama Sushi San Diego
Came here for dinner. I had a yellowtail sashimi appetizer, edamame and salmon kama. My wife had the teriyaki chicken and gyoza combo. Everything was excellent. The salmon kama was a generous portion and perfectly cooked. It came with a ponzu sauce on the side. It was nice and fatty, but not overly so. I would rate it as the best salmon kama in the local zip code. The hamachi sashimi was very fresh and also was a generous portion for the price. My wife also enjoyed her dinner. It came with miso soup, grilled teriyaki chicken, gyoza, rice and a garden salad with a ginger dressing. The teriyaki sauce had nice sweetness to it and wasn't overly salty. The gyoza came pan fried with a tempura/ponzu sauce to dunk them in that was very tasty. In my opinion, one of the stars of her meal was the ginger dressing on the salad. It was bright and refreshing. The servers were very attentive and friendly. There was a very large group of young people sitting next to us that were being quite loud. But other than that, which wasn't the restaurant's fault, everything was 5 stars. Definitely going to add this to my list of restaurants that I frequent.
A small traditional sushi bar with a large menu selection. Entrees include udon, Bento boxes, Donburi and sushi rolls. They have happy hour specials for both Sushi and drinks, but they are at different hours of the day. The large selection of fresh sushi fish was a delight and very tasty. They have a very busy dinner time crowd but afternoons aren't crowded and a great time to visit even on weekends. Seating areas include a lovely outdoor patio, indoor booths and a traditional sushi bar.
The menu offered a diverse selection of dishes, all made with fresh ingredients. The service was exceptional as well. The staff was always smiling and provided friendly assistance. Overall, this restaurant stands out as one of the best sushi restaurants in San Diego. The taste, service, and atmosphere were all impeccable, providing an excellent dining experience. I look forward to visiting again in the future!
The staff was very nice and the food was phenomenal. I will definitely come back again.

Good food! Great price if you go at happy hour!
Great food and service! We came for the happy hour and it was 50% off rolls, appetizers and ramen! The rolls are so delicious! Can’t wait to come back!
Great location, wonderful service, and tasty food! Recommend making a reservation in advance, because this place is good!
Great service, and I loved the taste of the food. We were very pleased to come here during the holidays. The salmon carpaccio was so fresh.
Excellent food, kind servers, and nice atmosphere. Would certainly dine here again. Fresh fish as well
Loved everything. We ordered so much food for 2 people. The chef gave us extra and explained it too. Super nice staff.
Great value for happy hour 3:30-5:30! Good quality sushi and good assortment of other food.

We are from Florida. The owner was amazing, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was awesome. Back to the owner though..we toasted a Saki shot and he made our experience very welcoming. True a great owner and proud of his restaurant.
This place is awesome! If you go during happy hour, the meal is so cheap definitely worth it. It starts at 3:30 to 530 and we didn’t know this what the waitress told us and we really appreciated her telling us. All the things we got was only $37 and it was really good.
Very friendly staff and great quality fish. We’re big sushi lovers and were nervous but excited to try a new spot and it did not disappoint! We got mostly sashimi/nigiri, a yellowtail roll, a specialty roll and ramen and they were all delicious.
Absolutely love Mizuki Yama! My son and I have come here for years since One Paseo was established. They have amazing happy hours on the menu , not just certain items . Delicious rolls and hot saki. The Su Chefs are friendly and so talented . The sushi bar is spacious . There is a lovely dinning set up with privacy and open room tables. Always clean and awesome friendly servers. Always quick and efficient. They have 2 televisions with sports behind the bar. I enjoy sharing this experience now with my new husband . One Paseo is just a classy compound of shops and a variety of eateries , bars and restaurants. You will not leave disappointed with Mizuki Yama . Groovy tunes always plying also . Ask for Serene !! Adorable and bouncy , efficient waitress. Thank you !
The sushi was very fresh. Sit at the sushi bar so they also gave me the free appetizer called “salmon pizza”. The service was also good too, the chef interacted with the customer even if you don’t sit at the sushi bar.
Highly recommend coming by to check this place out if you haven't already! The sushi is super fresh....the staff is just above and beyond! Sushi chef are so friendly and waitress staff are so attentive. Definitely will be coming back every time I'm in San Diego n
Very kind staff, nice ambience, and delicious sushi!! We got the Yellowtail Special Roll (top) and the Firecracker Roll (bottom). Both very good!
This restaurant is a real gem in Del Mar. Food is good and our server was great. Will definitely come back. My kids loved their fried gyoza.
Mizuki Yama is incredibly amazing! The sushi is super fresh and delicious. The place is super clean and the staff is so friendly and professional. they don’t rush you at all. They are happy to answer any questions about the menu we had since it’s our first visit. Their dishes seriously delicious. Plus they’re open every day, which is super convenient. If you’re craving good sushi in San Diego, definitely check this place out!
Incredible food! From the Gyosas, to rainbow sashimi, Del Mar roll, tempura rolls….we were impressed! First time here, next visit to San Diego we’ll definitely be back!
My wife and I have been looking for a good sushi spot in North County and have finally found it! The sushi, atmosphere, and service is all top notch! Everyone there is super nice, Yuna was our hostess and made us feel super welcome! And the sushi is incredible. The Del Mar roll and the Tempura California roll are our two favorites so far, but we’ll be back plenty often to try them all!

It’s been my favorite place since they opened. Best garlic edamame and super Mexican roll. The happy hour is really happy. My favorite place
The staff was very friendly and quick to attend. The food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time and was very delicious. We went during happy hour and the whole dinner for 4 was under $40. Great price, great food, great service. Will be back again
Highly recommend the Fantasy roll or the House special roll if you like salmon. The house special roll has a little bit of lemon, which is so surprising but amazing addition, and the fantasy roll is torched, which makes for a very unique flavor. Top tip, sit at the bar and talk to the folks making the sushi, they make great suggestions!
Great happy hour. The hand wraps, slap! Wasabi is on point, and the low sodium option of soy sauce is muchly appreciated. Sue (server) and David (sushi chef) are exceptional workers, they took care of me today. First time customer here, and Worth repeating.
Quiet and nice atmosphere for a family dinner. It's not easy to find a nice restaurant for a family with kids. They are super friendly and the food are amazing! We enjoyed the fresh rolls while my son is digging in his katsu :) Highly recommend for families and dates.
Stopped by for lunch. Lots of Japanese choices in the 100 mile radius - so the choice was pretty random. Setting and decoration are pretty standard, so that did not stand out. Menu itself did not have many pictures, so it did not bring up particular expectations. Chef was surprisingly friendly and kept bringing over amazing arrangements of sushi. Also gave clear recommendations on fresh catches of the day. Amazing fish and brilliant presentations. Wish those were presented on the menu so more customers can see. Highly recommend.

I liked the sushi and the fish was very fresh. No complaints on taste! The cost is a little high for not a ton of food and I wish they had more combo options with the plates/sashimi or more ability to customize. We enjoyed and would probably go back. for to go sushi it was still packaged very nicely and came with what we needed. We got the x-girlfriend roll which was amazing! Sashimi plate and seaweed salad. Definitely not enough wasabi or soy sauce though!
They have a happy hour from (3:30pm-530pm) The rolls you get from happy hour are basic but are not bad for price. We got the crunchroll with cream cheese, scallop , spicy tuna , and Mexican roll. The house rolls or special rolls are done well and is worth ordering if your never tried them. This place is a good choice to pick from when your walking around one paseo and the cooks are very nice and professional.
The service was great when we walked in. The food was pretty good and I especially like the mango roll.
We had a reservation at 5, but arrived earlier and were able to be seated right away. It was a Thursday during their happy hour (3:30-5:30pm) which is 40% off all menu items except MP fish, specials and sashimi. The happy hour prices are totally worth it! We tried the agedashi tofu - lightly breaded, medium soft tofu with a side of Yuzu/Ponzu. We also had the shishito peppers which were delicious and had a kick of heat/spices. Not pictured was a bowl of miso soup, pretty standard in traditional miso flavoring. Our main entrees were the lemon roll, yellowtail special roll and cucumber protein roll. The lemon roll was delicious, very light lemon flavor. The yellowtail special roll was also very flavorful - topped with a de-seeded jalapeño with a drop of sriracha on top added nice heat and complemented the yellowtail. Our final roll was a cucumber protein roll (no rice) and is made with assorted fish. Other than a slight challenge to pick up the softened cucumber, it was a great alternative to traditional rolls! We recognized that the restaurant was shortstaffed, so we didn’t mind any wait when it came to our server being occupied with a few larger groups in the restaurants. Our server was very kind and helpful. The restaurant space is pretty cozy, only one restroom in the back, but there is a public restroom a short walk from the restaurant if that one is occupied. Wheelchair accessibility will be a tight squeeze in some spaces. I would come back to this restaurant again, but only for the happy hour prices based on atmosphere, food quality, and ambiance.
i think the sushi rolls here are decent, service is okay, overall just an okay experience :)

Pretty good sushi. Little pricey for quality but good. Excellent service.
I’ve visited a few times, and I’m leaving this review because I’ve had the same experience each time. The food has been fine, and the service is generally nice. However, the server consistently engaged in a lot of conversation, which made the experience a bit uncomfortable at times. I understand the intention was to be friendly, but the ongoing talking sometimes made it difficult to fully enjoy a conversation with my companion. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but being more mindful of guests’ preferences and timing would greatly improve the dining experience.
Excellent service, lovely staff. The sashimi was generous and good quality, fresh fish, great value, but almost all the house rolls had fake Krab in them, labeled on the menu as ‘crab’ - with a ‘C’ which implies real crab. Should always be spelled ‘krab’ when it’s fake. When all the rolls came it was just a bunch of fake Krab in everything. Not good. That stuff is like glorified hot dog meat. I’d say check it out but build your own rolls and get the sashimi or nigiri.

Very expensive but they bring you a lot of food as one would expect. It was not worth the money but was pretty edible overall. You go in with those low expectations you’ll be ok. Stay away from the tap water in general here though, smells and taste like toilet water, but that’s not mostly their fault.
I ordered the Aka ramen, and was pretty disappointed. The tonkatsu broth was watery, noodles were ok, and it came with 2 very small pieces of tough, under cooked pork belly. The egg was very overcooked, hard and chalky. For some reason there was also raw cabbage, carrots, zucchini, and broccoli in the ramen, none of which are described in the menu description. Also no pickled ginger. Very strange. The service was good though, probably the only plus.
