An absolute Must Try!! Mouth watering food, cozy ambience, fantastic service, prime location. This restaurant has got it all! Recommendations: Side dish - Banana chips with salsa Main dish - Cuban Burrito - You can ask them to make it without meat if needed. It is fresh, full of flavor, and the side of fried plantains is cherry on top Dessert - Churro with ice-cream. Delicious ice-cream with hot churros is ❤️
Had a fantastic evening at Havana 1920. We happened to arrive during happy hour so the mojitos and daiquiris we 1/2 off. The drinks were great but our favorite was the Passionfruit daiquiri. We both had the Lechón Asado and loved every bite. Our server Morgan was awesome and gave great recommendations. Will certainly come back when we’re in town!
Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, and amazing service. The Cubana was delicious and my Cuban beer cold and tasty!
I took some clients here for lunch while on a business trip. We ended up having a couple extra people than the reservation was for and they accommodated wonderfully. The service was top notch. I don't remember my servers name but she was on top of everything. She even went next door to get some special hot sauce. The food was awesome as well. I had the HUGE cuban burrito. Finally, I ended up leaving my card there and didn't notice until I was in the airport. I called them when I got home and I had another great interaction. The lady who answered got the card mailed out that day! Fantastic place all around and I highly recommend.
I was excited to take our daughter here for her 23rd bday. She loves interesting food a cultures. My husband and I are vegetarian so we wanted a place that we could all have fun. This place did not disappoint! The waiter was great. Food ssooooo good!! Super fun atmosphere, too. I highly recommend this place.
Havana is a gem! You can expect delicious Cuban food in a charmingly authentic and cozy setting often with live music and an extensive rum list. My go-to dishes are the Empanadas de Carne and the Camarones Al Ajillos with a Mojito or Mexican coke as pictured. A corky and unexpected twist is the trip downstairs to the restroom, which leads you down a connected path through a vibrant club next door named El Chingon. Every visit to Havana whether with my kids, friends I’ve entertained or to enjoy a solo date has been a welcomed adventure. Highly recommend
Havana 1920 delivers a vibrant Cuban dining experience right in the heart of San Diego. The atmosphere is lively, stylish, and full of energy, with great music and a fun overall vibe. That said, at the beginning of the evening the music was uncomfortably loud. Unfortunately, it made it difficult for us to hear each other at the same table, which was a shame, as it took away from being able to fully enjoy the experience and the conversation. Once the volume was adjusted, the atmosphere became much more enjoyable. The food is full of bold, authentic flavors, with generous portions and well-executed classic Cuban dishes. The cocktails are well balanced and definitely worth ordering. Service was friendly and attentive throughout, and the staff made us feel welcome.
Fantastic authentic Cuban food and ambiance, along with excellent service. Free crispy and tasty plantain chips with two salsas to start. The Cubano sandwich is an excellent example of the classic, especially the delicious, perfectly seasoned pork. It's served with a few perfectly fried fat plaintain fries. The Camarones Al Ajillo appetizer was among the best appetizers I've had with succulent shrimp, mushrooms, and garlic in a white wine, capers, and lemon juice sauce. It's topped with hot red chile peppers that seep a subtle heat into the sauce when it's cooked. Toasted Cuban bread is included. I could make a meal of just this dish.
Came in for a late lunch, pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves, sat by a window upstairs. Tanya was friendly and attentive, able to give good recommendations. Food came out hot, delicious, cooked properly. We came on a Tuesday so the empanadas were 2 for 1 which was perfect. We had the croqueta de pollo and the croqueta de jamón y queso along with the la Cubanita and de carne empanadas. So a total of 4 empanadas and 4 croquetas were enough to fill the both of us so we’ll have to save the $94 filete tomahawk for another visit. We look forward to the yucca fries too, and I think they do live music some nights which always sounds fun when we’re walking by.
Best food I have ever had in my life! The plantain bananas with the white sauce was orgasmic! Followed by Tostones Rellenos (with the white sauce 😋) then Ropa Vieja. Best culinary experience I have ever had! For dessert I had the flan. I like flan normally but their flan was on a whole new delicious level! I look forward to coming back!
Located in the heart of the Gaslamp, Havana 1920 is such a great Cuban restaurant/bar. Food was tasty, service was above and beyond with some great conversations with our server and the people watching is totally top notch! We were there Thursday around 2:30 and all their sandwiches were 1/2 off! And they were delicious!
Super fun place!! A short walk from the convention center, it was perfect for a late lunch! I came during happy hour as well so was delightfully surprised with the great prices. I had the picadillo papa relleno and it was fantastic! The picadillo was super flavorful. The server was super nice and attentive. I also had the cuban sandwich which was great as well. Overall, a great experience and I am so sad I'm not in the area to try more on their menu!
We had originally booked well in advance another spot, "Rustic Root" for a business dinner, but after a long wait for our table and service there, we left early and walked across the street to Havana--and what a great decision! From the moment we arrived, the staff was attentive and welcoming. Service was prompt, professional, and friendly, which made a big difference after our earlier experience. The food was excellent, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I recommend the Cubana sandwich or the Lechon Rolled Tacos, either paired with their house Mojito was the topper. On top of that, the atmosphere was comfortable enough for conversation, making it perfect for our meeting. We'll definitely be returning and recommending Havana for both business and personal dining.
As a Cuban American, I know authentic Cuban food when I see (and eat) it. I stopped in for dinner with a couple of friends and the atmosphere is super Cuban, from the decor to the music. We tried the Cuban sandwich and it was just as good as you'll get in Miami. The empanadas and croquetas were amazing. The tostones were slightly over cooked but still good. Our server was great and the prices are reasonable. Definitely recommend if you are a fan of great Cuban food.
Came here because they had a really good Thursday deal which was sandwiches for $7.50. Got here and waited for about 5 minutes until someone came to the front and said I could sit anywhere, I picked the upstairs which was nice. The server explained the deals and drink specials, very through. For food I ordered the Ropa Vieja Sandwich. This sandwich had shredded beef made with peppers, olives, & onions cooked in tomato sauce served with Swiss cheese pressed between slices of buttery cuban bread. Amazing sandwich, would have loved to try the other ones too. Nice vibe, great music, great service and great food.
Excellent Cuban food with strong drinks! Ricky and Arturo treated us like friends. We went back several times and sampled the menu. I'm an ex chef and the food was not only on par with Cuban flair but constant and affordable! Bonus.... There is a speak easy below it that we shut down! Had a blast! Definitely coming back!
I haven’t had real Cuban food since living in Miami and I was looking forward stopping at this place to have a coffee and a Cubano sandwich for lunch. We also got the empanada cubanita as well. The atmosphere is amazing and the service and the friendliness of the staff (especially Tonya) was fantastic as well. The serving sizes were perfect and quite enjoyable. For a starter I had croquets de jamon/queso which I put on Cuban bread toast which is a delicious way to start.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ During my recent visit to San Diego, I stumbled upon this fantastic Cuban restaurant and was so impressed that I ate there twice in one day! The ambiance is stunning, perfectly capturing the essence of Cuba. The food is nothing short of spectacular—authentic, flavorful, and expertly prepared. A special shout out to Angie and Andrea, whose exceptional service and warm hospitality truly made the dining experience unforgettable. Their attention to detail and friendly demeanor added a personal touch that elevated the whole experience. If you’re in San Diego and craving amazing Cuban cuisine, this place is an absolute must. Highly recommended!
My dad lived in Cuba as a kid and so I grew up with my grandmother's exceptional Cuban cooking and struggle to find anywhere that lives up to that. Though, to be fair, Grandma food is always the best. Havana 1920 got close, moreso on some dishes than others, but made for a really satisfying meal. There was a whole group of us and the Hatuey got raves from a couple beer fans and the guava daiquiri was definitely a winner. For me, ropa vieja is always my measuring stick for a Cuban restaurant and while not bad, it also didn't blow me away. It was somewhat bland and that was kind of disappointing. The group collectively was very impressed by the bocaditos platter, though the yucca fries were unspectacular. They ended up oily, so likely not cooked at the right temp and became a letdown. The highlight of the whole night was the flan. I managed to convert a couple of my colleagues who were used to Mexican flan to convert and raved about the Cuban version. This was the most similar to what I grew up eating and really packed an emotional punch to compliment how unbelievably delicious it was. I might be an unfair judge as someone who has had so much Cuban food in my life, but I would recommend the place. We were able to put a couple tables together and eat outside and the service was exceptional, no complaints there.
As with most restaurant near the convention, feels like a tourist trap and food was just okay, didn't wow me as it did not feel super authentic. I had the special which was 3 small racks of lamb and a fish kabob. My coworkers recommended the empanadas and those were okay. Appetizer sampler with a bunch of deep fried cheesy goodies and ceviche, that was my favorite dish here. White mocca was decent. They give you salted plantain chips. Cuban sandwich with yuca fries looked good. Picadillo looked good.
I visited this restaurant this weekend and I was highly disappointed. I had about 4 different servers. I couldn’t tell you who specifically was my server. The food didn’t come out as I asked and it needed to be re done. The only good thing was a Henny & Red Bull drink that I ordered. The chairs were very hard and uncomfortable. The cans where they place the utensils were dirty. I had to ask for plastic utensils. The fake candle on the table gave it a very tacky look. It was also very loud at the restaurant. It was hard to hold a conversation at my table. I will not return and do not recommend this place.
