Opinions de Homestyle Hawaiian San Diego
This place has such generous portions and such great taste. Their loco moco is sooo delicious and is the best I’ve tried out of all the other Hawaiian places. I also love their build your own mutsubi, katsu chicken, lava chicken, furakake salmon, wontons, donuts, their drinks are always amazing! I love the lemonades and the fun dirty sodas they have available.
Small place but great food if you like the Hawaiian vibe. The Katsu's are tasty and super crispy! Reminds me of places I've been in Hawaii and Japan. They have some fun selections for beverages and dessert. It can get crazy busy but worth the wait.
So I’ve been looking for a more authentic Hawaiian food place. I came upon Homestyle Hawaiian. I ordered the spam musubi, deliciousness 🤤 also ordered the Teri Chicken lunch plate with 2 scoops of the Mac salad (I’m not much into rice) the chicken was juicy and the Teri sauce was not overwhelming. It also had green onions and sesame seeds and as you can see they are not shy with the portions. They have these “dirty sodas” I got the Penny lover bc I like the coconut flavor. They also have an ube cheesecake and another cake that looks really yummy. I did not take pictures of those. Anyways this place beats other “chain” Hawaiian restaurants, sorry L&Lnot going back! This is my new Hawaiian place 😊 As far as atmosphere I have 4 stars bc it is small inside. Very friendly smiling staff 😊
This is one of favorite Hawaiian food in town. I decided to get their special and basically have all the meat ingredients I love such as Portuguese sausages, hula pork, beef patty and meat sauce with sunny side up egg. Very yummy spot if you like trying some authentic Hawaiian food. Give this place a try
A lovely little Hawaiian spot! They have a large variety of meats (the big three), and the quality is incredible. The only complaint I have was the wait time for the food resulting in a 3 for service, but after eating it was well worth the wait. Parking was also annoying, plan to walk over from the plaza over. I got the teri salmon, and my friends got the two combo plate and katsu (fried) chicken; we also got some lumpia to share. They also have some specialty plates with multiple flavors on the side of the store. We also tried a hand-shaken lemonade and a dirty soda, they have so many flavors it may be hard to decide on! The drinks may seem expensive but they give you a large cup full of it. Definitely plan to come again and try another dish sometime!
I recently picked up takeout from Homestyle Hawaiian, and I have to say, this place is an absolute gem in San Diego! We had so much food that we were able to enjoy it later, and it was just as delicious the second time around. The flavors were spot on, and every dish was satisfying and full of taste. The service was also outstanding. The two staff members working up front were incredibly respectful and provided excellent customer service, making the whole experience even better. We drove over an hour for an appointment nearby, and choosing Homestyle Hawaiian for takeout was the best decision we could have made. No disappointment here—just amazing food and great service. This place is definitely one of San Diego’s best-kept secrets, and we’ll absolutely be back!
Second time I’ve been here and it won’t be the last. Staff is informed, kind, and courteous. The portions are excellent. And the flavors are comforting and savory. Stopped in for a snack, getting the musabi (spam sushi hand roll) and potato salad. Both slapped. Would love if they had a spicy mayo for dipping sauce. Don’t skip on this tasty spot.
I probably shouldn’t say this but I enjoy the plate lunch from here almost more then from Hawaii. Everything is so good and the vibes are chill. Whenever I’m in SD this is my spot for Hawaiian plate lunch. I’d recommend the lava chicken or the Korean fried chicken. They also do dirty sodas which are probably really bad for you but they’re really good. Prices are okay.
Great food. The Katsu was very nicely done. Crispy without being oily. The short ribs were tasty but could have been a little more tender. Also very much liked the desserts the whip was light and refreshing and the pineapple upside cake was a delight. The lemonade was also very good. The one plate with the two meats was definitely shareable.
Parking space small but not bad. Got the 2 item combo, 18.99 plus tax, katsu and kalbi. Katsu was great but kalbi was overcooked. Will come back and try other items like deep fried spam musubi and loco moco
Great food (salmon, chicken, pork Hawaiian style). The beef has good marinated flavor but a little too chewy. The rice could have been cooked with a little more water. Dessert (Dole Whip pineapple) is really good. The lemonade added with a Sprite is very good too. Parking is not too bad during weekends.
Their spamasubi is alright, I’ve had better at L&Ls and that says something. Place doesn’t have a “public” restroom for their customers. Very inconvenient if you need to go while dining or if you have small children and need to wash their hands after a meal.
Teriyaki chicken was disappointing. A little dry, a little chewy, which is surprising for thigh meat. Portions were pretty large, about 3 full-sized chix thighs, but not well trimmed (found gristle/bone). Priced around $15 for plate lunch. Mostly a to-go place, no restrooms and limited seating.
Good portions for meal and pretty good Hawaiian bbq good alternative to L&L. Got mix plate with beef and chicken it was okay good not the best but could be better than L&L fried spam masubi eat right away and lumping was good but not impressive over all kind of just good all around but dirty soda or mixed drinks was really great and enjoyed that the most
Food was good, not great. Customer service seemed good, but they messed up my order with ordering 2 drinks instead of 1 with 2 flavors, which they advertised and I asked for clarity. Also, they do not have a bathroom for customers, just employees. Kinda weird when you can see the restroom and need to go but can’t. Not too great of an experience. Also didnt have any of the deserts they advertise.
Love coming here but these young clowns that worked the night shift are very unprofessional. They call my name then laugh about it like teenage kids definitely not coming back to this establishment anymore. Owner do a better job hiring respectful employees not people who are trying to act like kids
worker at the front with glasses has terrible. she denied us water cups. but worse she said that they didn’t have any sides of spicy mayo and then she came out and ate in front of us with a ride of what clearly looked like spicy mayo. also we ordered a dish that had some spicy mayo on top so it’s clear that they had it. she either was just unwilling to help a customer and outright lazy or rude. needs a mood and personality check asap!!!
The food here is amazing but the customer service is so bad. Some rare occasions its good when its a different person but the girl working here with glasses is very rude and has a bad attitude. There is also no consistency when it comes to buying a side of onion or asking to sub rice for more mac . I asked once if i could sub rice for mac and a girl was sweet about it and said yes. I even always got extra green onion. But whenever its the girl with glasses she tells me they dont sub mac in a rude attitude and i was charged for extra onion on the side. . I dont mind paying the extra but it would be nice if i didnt get charged once then not the next.
