Spicy House is our favorite authentic Szechuan Chinese place! There are so many dishes that are absolutely delicious but their spicy crispy fish is my favorite here and I always get it! It's SO fragrant but it packs a real punch, the aunties here are always so nice too. Their hot tea is my favorite anywhere, and is very fragrant and comforting. I love spicy house, and I love my spicy fried fish 🩷
First I just want to say that it is not necessarily expected for Chinese service staff to be really friendly or accommodating, especially to white English speaking people...not because there is any intended rudeness, but because of language or cultural differences when it comes to restaurant etiquette, etc. Having said that, the two waitresses that were on staff today were so nice and attentive and thoughtful. We loved their vibe. This was my first time trying proper authentic Sichuan food after doing a ton of research on what to order (years of research technically, watching tons of channels on YouTube that cover this style of food), and although not every single item was made exactly as it might be traditionally made (the Fu Qi Fei Pian didn't have tongue, heart or tripe for example...it only had the thin slices of beef flank), I found that everything was very close to how it is made in China, or exactly as it should be. We had the following (See pics with captions), and I recommend everything besides the stir fried potatoes (maybe there is a better way to get them than we did): 1. Mao Xue Wang 2. Shao Bai 3. Stir Fried Potatoes with vinegar 4. Fish & Tofu Mala (not sure of menu name) 5. Fu Qi Fei Pian 5. Special Sweet Rice Ball Soup (Dessert) Everything tasted high quality and truly awesome. The portions were gigantic and definitely intended to be family style. We went crazy and spent $100 for the two of us, with drinks, and still had so much food left over that they had to put everything in a big cardboard box lol. Oh and the weird looking fish eyeballs/egg soup looking thing is so strange but so lovely. We asked for a dessert and we were thinking we would get some kind of small piece of Chinese dessert like they do in America and other countries, but instead they brought out a steaming hot bowl of something I can barely describe (see pictures), but it was genuinely awesome and such a new experience for sure. Highly recommend trying it. You'll just have to see for yourself. Can't wait to go back and try more. They have a gigantic and intriguing menu.
One of the best authentic Chinese foods in town. True high quality and great friendly service all the time
This was our first time here. We had spicy fish, salt and pepper calamari, egg rolls and dumplings. The food was great, large portions. We will definitely be back
Very delicious Chinese food, it is also worth a go. Their dishes are excellent, exquisitely decorated, and there are also TVs and fish tanks. You can have a look when you are bored. What’s better is that they usually provide a bowl of candy before and after meals. For those who love Chinese food, this is definitely a must-visit place.
I go to this restaurant every time I go to San Diego, the authenticate Chongqing taste reminds me of home. They give large portion for each dish and worth the price. If you want spicy food this place is definitely recommended.
I noticed Spicy House serves Da Pan Ji (Big Plate Chicken) for just over $20, so I decided to try it along with Dongpo Pork, salted egg yolk tofu, and scallion pancakes—dishes my dad loves. Everything was delicious and great value! The tofu was super flavorful and perfect with rice, the pork was tender and not greasy, and the Da Pan Ji was a huge portion with wide noodles, making it an incredible deal. Only the scallion pancake was average. My dad loved the meal, and with four of us eating, we still had leftovers!
If you want good Chinese shi cuan food at reasonable price with large portions, this is the place to be. Everything we ordered came out quickly, piping hot and delicious. The cold plate portion was generous and delicious. Had the smoked chicken, pork stomach and spicy beef as the cold plate. Ordered fish with preserved veg and stir fry beef. The beef was tender and perfectly cooked, slightly spicy and went well with rice. Service is brisk. Very large menu. Located in mall with free parking but parking was a bit tough during peak lunch time. It's definitely worth a visit if in the area.
While on the hunt for dumplings we found Spicy House. Im sure glad we did because it was incredible. Inside the place exudes classic chinese restaurant charm. The ladies who run the place were all smiles, efficient and friendly-ish which only added to the old school vibe. We started out with several cold dishes from the bar. Smashed cucumber, spicy beef and pig ears were all expertly crafted and enjoyed. Food wise well, their menu is massive and while we were there for dumplings we ordered so much more. The menu is broken down into proteins, ingredients and preparation. Honestly there seems to be some of the same dishes listed under each, though this might be a lost in translation situation. In any case every dish we had was great. My favorites were the "Boiled" #124, Boiled 2 Kinds w/Hot Sauce. I chose beef and fish. They call this place Spicy House for a reason. My mouth tingled for an hour after eating this dish. So much Sichuan pepper, perfect boiled dish! Another dish, "Featured Specials" #16, Stir Fried Chicken Cubes w/Hot Pepper was a hit. Though be warned, a cube of chicken is really just the skin with very little meat. Surprisingly dumplings are actually located under "Noodles" where we ordered #201, Chunking Style Wonton and #193, Steamed Bun (Xiao Long Bao). Both were well prepared and I love that their wrappers were on the thicker side which made them feel sturdy with a satisfying chew. Spicy House has over 200 menu items and in all honesty, I cannot wait to try some different dishes next time. What a treat!
I just found out this Chinese Restaurant during we going to San Diego for the July 4Th fireworks. So many restaurants were closed earlier because of holidays. But it still was opening when we arrived around 7:40PM. I didn’t expect too much, but the food was so delicious and surprising me. The lady was very nice and give great recommendation. We have 4 people, ordered 5 dishes: Ma Po Tofu: Spicy and numb. Roasted Fish: a whole fish with fresh vegetables. Spicy Cold dish: you can choose any three different meat. ( we choose spicy beef, non spicy pork tongue, and pork ears) Shredded Pork: light spicy and sweet ( my favorite) Pork Hock soup with white bean. spent $108(Including tips) , very good price. Actually, they still have a lot of NON SPICY FOOD, if you cannot eat too Spicy, just tell them, they will give you good recommendations.
Delicious. One of our top 2 favorite Chinese restaurants, now. The menu is huge and has more seafood and noodle options than the other Chinese restaurants that we have been to in town. If you love spicy Szechuan Chinese food, you’ll be happy. If you need something milder, they have lots of other options for you to try. The least impressive stuff was the items in their side item buffet in the front but I rarely like those anyway.
Visiting San Diego and found this to be one of the best things of San Diego, up there with the sea lions at La Jolla! Authentic, yummy food in generous portions. If I live here I will be patronizing this restaurant every week.
I visited twice, around May 2024. On my first visit, I had a dish that consisted of a whole fish cooked-to-order, served to me piping hot in a reddish broth. It takes about 20-25 minutes for this dish to be cooked for me, but boy was it worth it. One of those meals that I will remember for a very long time. The meat on the fish was fall-off-the-bone, and the broth pairs really well with white rice. The fish is stuffed with a lot of tofu. On my second visit, I was feeling a little less adventurous, so I got the shrimp chow mein, which was also good. Decent amount of shrimp and served to me with various Chinese sauces on the side. Peanuts, cucumbers and tea are complementary. Finally, as a little aside, during my first visit I noticed that the menu stated that guests can bring in their own beer after paying a corking fee. I tested this out on my second visit, and bought in a 32oz Modelo, which sure enough, they were cool with.

Orange chicken is one of a kind. A Must try that will ruin all other orange chicken. I dont usually go for orange chicken I might even not like orange chicken.....butwhatever this is is a whole new world. Its like a dazzling place i never knew , but when im way up here is crystal clear, you should order it. Also the kungpao has a sezchuan twist that is exceptional.

Haven't been here in awhile and forgot how much I liked this place. This time around I opted for 1 beef dish and 2 fish dishes. Sizzling beef- was pretty good. A little on the chewy side. They pour the oil on it at the table. Spicy Fish- can't remember if it was the Szechuan style or Hot Pepper. Regardless, it was really good. Big portion sitting in a bowl of oil, chiles and veggies. Very spicy. Twice Cook Fish- probably my favorite dish I ate that night. Super crispy, super flavorful, super spicy. Couldn't stop eating it. Everything is a la carte family style servings. Reasonably priced. And if you cook at home, make sure you take the oil, chiles, and sauce with you. I made some stir frys at home, added the oil and veggies and it really punched up the flavors.
I ordered Dan Dan noodles and cold spicy chicken for take out. The noodles were ok but the chicken was very delicious. It’s my first time inside. It was traditional Chinese decoration. I’m impressed with the entrance. I’ll have to dine in soon and try other dishes.
We went here for CNY and the food was excellent! The fish was phenomenal and we especially loved the dumplings. The service was interesting - we were waiting to be seated a long time and the hostess tried to seat the people who came in after us first even though we'd already spoken to her. They nicely pointed out that we'd been waiting. The food was worth the wait however.
fried chicken cube with hot pepper is excellent! Chicken is lightly fried (not oily) and served with heap of red peppers. The portion is very generous. Twice cooked pork with garlic sprouts is good too. Don’t forget order rice as these dishes didn’t come with rice. Dry pod chicken was good with generous portions. Its spiciness is a tad hotter than I prefer. I didn't enjoy streamed pork ribs with broken rice. I'm not sure about this dish. While it may have fans but not I.

The pickled chicken feet used to taste great, but today’s batch tasted a bit off — it was very bland, with almost no flavor. Also, the texture was quite tough and seemed undercooked. I hope it can be improved and brought back to the quality it had before.

The service is so bad. The waiter is very impolite and aggressive. Seems they don’t want to serve you at all. One dish of lamb is also not fresh at all. It smells so bad.
