Opinions de Kaiserhof San Diego
Dinner at this restaurant was wonderful. The level of service from the staff was excellent. The beef goulash was very delicious — the meat was tender and juicy, and the gravy had a very rich flavor and aroma. I would also like to give special attention to the strudel. The pastry was nicely thin and crispy, and the apple filling was delicate and juicy. The only thing I would have liked to see served with the strudel is freshly hand-whipped cream, but it was still very tasty even with the cream from the market.
Delicious German food. Went back after a few years and this classic restaurant is still great. Unique as a genuine, old-fashioned German restaurant in San Diego
This was a New Year's Eve dinner. It was amazingly good. They had a special menu or you could order from the regular menu. The staff was friendly and attentive. I couldn't have asked for better.
What to say as a German on vacation. Service cool, Beer 100%, Appetizer and Main course (Park Schnitzel- also my friend as a German Restaurant owner Said this looks good) as made in Germany. So proud about this Restaurant. Ambiente is Not typical German „Wirtschaft“ but nice. All over 100 points for this Location
Had a fantastic lunch at Kaiserhof Restaurant in San Diego! The atmosphere felt like a cozy German tavern — warm, inviting, and family-friendly. We ordered the escargot, Salat Schüssel, 🌭 Wurstplatte, and 🍖 roasted pork shank. Everything was flavorful and generously portioned. The pork shank was crispy on the outside, juicy inside — a bit fatty, but perfectly balanced with sauerkraut and red cabbage. Their warm bread basket was a nice touch, and the kids loved it too! 🍞 🍺 My favorite? The 1L Hofbräu Lager — crisp, malty, and made me feel like I was at Oktoberfest. Would definitely come back for more authentic German comfort food!
Our server was a beautiful lady with a great personality. She gave great info about the items on the menu to help our decisions. We got the Brussels, beet salad, and the Keizer roll kraut brat items with choice of side. We got the German potato salad! Ok the beet salad had two types of beets, purple and light yellow. So delicious plus blue cheese crumble cheese. It’s huge and our server gave us a warning which helped because we split it. Then we both ordered the same lunch item. The braut paired well with the open faced Kaiser roll. It gave a light sweet flavor and matched the potato salad well. I absolutely love German potato salad. Happy to have came and we came right at noon so there wasn’t a huge crowd. On our way out it looked like the beer garden was being sat a lot. I definitely would recommend this place and will come back.
I visited this place on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. I had previously asked a co-worker if he knew of any Slavic restaurants I could try, and he recommended this one. It took me two years to finally make my way here, but it was definitely worth it. Since I live all the way in Encinitas and rarely find myself in this area, I decided to make the trip. I tried several different dishes, along with two of their most popular beers. The first thing I ordered was the Potato Pancakes, which came with three pancakes, bacon, apple sauce, and a side dish—I chose the German Potatoes. These were excellent! I’ve had potato pancakes at a few places in San Diego, but these were my favorite. They were cooked perfectly. The Currywurst was also delicious. It came with potatoes and, while I’m not a huge fan of curry, the flavor wasn’t overpowering. My favorite dish, however, was the Beef Goulash. It was served in a flavorful onion and tomato sauce that was absolutely amazing. I saved a good portion to take to work the next day. I’ll definitely order that again when I return—the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. The last thing I tried was a simple Bratwurst on a roll, which was also really good. The roll was soft with a nice crisp on the outside—not hard at all. Overall, I loved this place and will definitely be coming back again!
What a find! Had a great time here seems like the perfect spot for Oktoberfest, nestled in hip ocean beach not far from sea world this place was featured on food networks restraint impossible as it transformed from its original design and menu into its current state. The staff was experiencing a large party at the time we arrived but they did not falter. They still provided attentive knowledgeable quality service and product. The German beer on tap was outstanding and the food was excellent. Authentic, cozy great bar and beer garden in a great area enjoyed an evening walk with nearby shops.
Visited Kaiserhof with the family. We were a party of 6. The restaurant has remodeled on the inside and outside and it looks very different from what I remember. Everything was delicious. The veal schnitzel was better than the pork schnitzel. My son enjoyed his beef stroganoff. The spatzel looks and tastes home made. So good! The portions are big. Bring an appetite. We were to full to try dessert. Next time I’m trying the Apple strudel with vanilla ice cream.
Absolutely delicious with traditional salads that pair with each entrée to make an excellent and satisfying meal! The chicken tarragon is very delicious. If you are looking for simple, the cucumber salad is classically refreshing. The service is on point as well as friendly. You really cannot go wrong dining here
I ALWAYS stop in at this place on my trips to San Diego. The food is exceptional every single time. The entire atmosphere of this restaurant is authentically German and it shows in the small details of the wall decorations and the way everything is presented. Be sure to stop here for food 100% recommended
I recommend this place. Yes it might not be as good as having a meal in Germany but this place sure makes you feel like you are there. It has the style, the beer 🍻, the schnitzel, strudel, mustard and of course the pretzels.. all that makes this place worth to visit! We payed around $90 for -2 beers -Pork shank came with cucumber salad and German pancake -Schnitzel came with green salad and German potato - small pretzel with beer cheese and mustard. Place 5/5 Service 5/5 Price 4/5
We came in for dinner while we were in the area. What a nice restaurant in what might have been a house previously. There was two rooms for inside dining with German decorations and fireplaces. There is also a cute outdoor covered patio. They have a good selection of beer and a big food menu. The prices were budget friendly for dining out these days. I had their grilled lamb chops for dinner and liked it. It was juicy. The sides and complimentary bread rolls were good too. The waitress we had wasn't so friendly though. It took a long time for our orders to be taken and food to come to the table.
Quaint atmosphere, excellent service and well prepared food. The beef goulash was tender with a tomato and onion based sauce. The sauerbraten was fork tender with a hint of ginger. Highly recommend the house made apple strudel. It's light and flaky and not overly sweet. The menu is definitely meat-heavy but you can order additional side dishes to help balance out the meal. There is also a cozy bar and patio dining.
Food 2/5, service 2/5, atmosphere 5/5 Decided to go here for our anniversary lunch and left very disappointed. We came here specifically to try the Schweinehaxe (Large crispy roasted pork shank) and we were happy when the waitress said we can order it for lunch, but were disappointed with both the taste and textures of the dish. We have had it many times in Europe and this was by far the worst we’ve ever had (and the most expensive). The meat was dry, had no flavor, and the outside was crispy but way too oily. We got a side of beef goulash, and that was tasty, as well as the dumplings, which were more of like a dough that you dip in meat sauce, kind of gooey, but tasty. Service 2/5 Our server was nice and funny, but came around once every new moon, complaining about how busy she was every time. She forgot to bring us a beer we have ordered and our water and soda refills took 20 minutes to be delivered. It seems like the place was severely understaffed on a Saturday afternoon, hopefully it is only an isolated event. The place wasn’t full of people when we were there, we only saw a handful of tables around. The place was super cute, clean and traditional and the ambiance was great. The staff are wearing traditional Bavarian outfits and the beers are super cold and heavenly tasting. If I ever come back here, which I doubt, I would try the schnitzel.
Our experience was genuinely terrible. The restaurant wasn’t even busy when we arrived, yet we had to ask repeatedly for basic things like water—and still waited more than 20 minutes each time. The service was shockingly bad. We had a table of four, but the waitress kept dropping off only two or three plates and utensils, laughing it off as if it were a joke. She served every dish in total silence, offering zero explanation, then walked away without a word. The low point was when she interrupted us mid-meal to ask if we needed a to-go box, as if she couldn’t wait for us to leave. The food was passable at best—heavy, oily, overly salty, and nowhere near the quality of similar dishes I’ve had in Munich. For this price point, San Diego has far better options. This place is simply not worth it.
New menu is really expensive. Roladen went from 25.95 to 32.95. A 23% increase! Sauce was good but meat was overcooked, very dry. Our shrimp appetizer was still a little frozen. No more bread. We ate at the bar, the bartender was overwhelmed and slow. Appetizer took 50 min and watered down cucumber salad came last. French fries and catchup were good. 130.00 for two of us. I've been going to this place for 42 years. Peter, original owners son was the cook. He was fantastic. Obviously something has changed for the worse. Sadly I don't believe I'll be back. We were there Friday November 8 2025 at noon. Again 50 min to get our semifroze shrimp cocktail. Oh and out of goulosh.
We had a family get together for my mother's birthday. The table they had setup for 15 people would have comfortably sat about 10. They also left only 3 menus on the table. About half hour in, we decided to leave. About the same time someone came around to get a drink order. Everyone was VERY disappointed. Luckily we ended up at another restaurant that quickly sat us, took orders, & got food on the table.
I’m from Europe and was craving a proper schnitzel. Instead, I ended up paying $30 for crumbs, literally. The meat was so thin you could barely even tell there was veal under all that breading. I’ve never eaten anything this bad in my life. Where’s the meat?? I even took it to go just to show my partner because he wouldn’t have believed it. This owner wouldn’t survive a month in any European country. I also brought a friend with me and honestly felt embarrassed for even recommending this place
