Opinions de La Doña San Diego
We had dinner here on a Wednesday night with five adults and four kids. We had reservations and were seated on the patio right away. The décor and atmosphere are great. We loved the fresh salsa, craft margaritas, steak tacos, enchiladas, and hot churros with creme. The staff was friendly and attentive. It’s hard for Mexican cuisine to stand out in San Diego, but La Doña hits the mark.
I love pretty much everything about this place. It has a chill half indoor and half outdoor seating area that is just so cute. The decor makes you feel like you’ve been transported to a trendy little place in Mexico. I love that you can bring your dog here! That’s a big plus for me. The service was excellent, I never felt like I was searching for my server and she always greeted us with a smile. The food was absolutely fantastic! Modern Mexican flavors that combine to make lovely dishes that fill your tummy and your heart. I would highly recommend this restaurant; it’s perfect for a quick bite to eat or hanging out with friends and watching the game. I will definitely be coming back.
Great place! The Tuesday specials are a really good value. Our server Carrie (sp?) was wonderful! Will come here again for sure. Thank you all for a memorable evening.
La Doña was outstanding, both the food and the service were incredible. I had the roasted corn on the cob and two tacos, grilled shrimp and mushroom, and wow… both were absolutely to die for. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly done. Highly recommend if you’re in Ocean Beach, this place is a must. 🌮✨
Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and sat on the patio with my pup. Service was friendly and fast. Really enjoyed the Taco Tuesday special. I got a carne asada, birria and la gringa. All was super tasty. Definitely coming back!
To start with their chips and salsa, be careful they are delicious!! The margaritas were on point and their ceviche had the perfect spice to it. I had an enchilada and taco and we will definitely be coming back. Everything tasted amazing and authentic. The quality of everything was next level.
Ok, so we had our pre-wedding festivities here just last weekend. The biggest compliment I can possibly give here is that no one could focus on me or my bride when the food came around. It was all about the delicious-smelling, tantalizing delights at the buffet table. And I didn't even care, because that just gave me more time to eat their food. Everything from Tijuana Hot Dogs to queso that may have descended from Mexican Mount Olympus itself, holy guacamole this stuff was good. Not to mention the service, the music, and the neon signs/mural that provided an ideal backdrop for photos. Well played, Kayla and La Doña. Well played. With Love, San and Celestina Petrini
Fantastic food. The guacamole with the chicharrones were amazing. Love the chicken tinga taco along with the ground beef one and the chili relleno was superb. Unlike other Mexican restaurants – excluding taco shops – – that I’ve been to in San Diego, where they don’t melt the cheese and it kind of comes out lukewarm, the chile relleno was at a perfect temperature, and the cheese was completely melted. I think the slow service tonight may have just been because they were down some servers maybe but overall, the quality of service was fantastic. Great food, great atmosphere, and a place I would definitely go again
Fantastic, this is the place for sure if you're looking for a sit-downtown Mexican experience. The basic chips and salsa are basically perfect. We had queso and the empanaditas for appetizers and both were 10/10 delicious. Our main courses were also fantastically delicious. So glad we chose La Dona!
I was here for a private event so it was probably a bit different experience, but the food and drinks were still great. Absolutely amazing guava margaritas, couldn't get enough of them. It was a large group so they did pans of salmon, they somehow still managed to avoid drying it out and making it tough. It was very good. Don't miss out on the churros; Big, light, mouth watering. Soooo good!
This was our second time back here, first time we found out about there taco Tuesday deals and had to try them. The monster taco was the size of my hand (see picture) and delicious! The margaritas was...okay. I would have liked it to have a little more flavor, but to be fair I am a bit of a snob with them lol. Wifey got the tacos, sorry I dont fully remember which ones she got, but she said they were delicious, and the chips and salsa they bring out to start is great. If you are looking for a taco Tuesday spot, do not hesitate to check them out!
A Taco Lover’s Paradise in Ocean Beach If you’re in Ocean Beach and craving tacos, La Doña is a must. This spot has the perfect OB vibe: open-air seating, colorful decor, and a fun atmosphere that’s both laid-back and lively. 🌮 The Food: • The tacos here are massive (seriously, bigger than my hand – check the photos). Not only are they Instagram-worthy, but they’re also packed with flavor. • Chips and salsa are fresh, crunchy, and addictive – the kind you can’t stop snacking on while waiting for your meal. • I really appreciated the vegan options, which makes this a great spot whether you’re plant-based or not. 🍹 Drinks & Atmosphere: They’ve got a good drink selection to pair with the food, and the atmosphere is perfect for a casual lunch or dinner. Outdoor seating with heaters makes it comfortable any time of year, and the staff is super friendly and attentive. 📸 Pro Tip: Come hungry (one taco might be all you need!) and definitely grab some photos – the plating and portions make for great shots. ✅ Bottom line: Huge portions, great flavors, vegan-friendly options, and a lively OB atmosphere. A must-visit whether you’re a local or just passing through.
La Doña is a very casual, comfy, and friendly restaurant with good service and a broad menu. They offer brunch on weekends as well as their typical menu. The drinks are all very well crafted, and the food is flavorful. My one complaint is that the Mar y Tierra burrito was too wet inside, leading to a subpar texture. However, the other things we tried, from the margarita to the eggs Benedict, were delightful. I would return to eat here again.
Decent place. It’s pretty big with lots of seating. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor stuff has covers and heaters. It is a pretty nice looking place. Nice vibes. The food is ok. The pumpkin seed guacamole with pork grinds are surprisingly good!!! Really good lol. 🥑 I got the giant mega taco and wow that thing was huge bahaha. Definitely the size of 2-3 normal tacos. 🌮 I got the chicken tinga. It was alright. Flavor was a little odd and the crunch of the taco was a little overpowering. It was like extremely crunchy lol. The water cups are tiny lol but they at least give you your own big bottle to fill up. Decent place. Dog friendly. 🐶
My wife was in the mood for a Mexican breakfast after church, and we wanted to try a new spot. I searched for Mexican brunch and found this place near our location. We arrived just after opening and it seemed they were a bit understaffed, because there was no host and nobody acknowledged us. The bartender is closest to the entrance and although most barkeeps are friendly and welcoming, this guy didn't even look at us. Not a huge deal, but a welcoming gesture and acknowledgement could go a long way. After standing there waiting for several minutes, we were seated and the waiter brought us water. We asked for chips and salsa which we didn't see on the menu, but we knew they had from the photos on Google. The chips are good with a nice seasoning and the salsa is fresh and flavorful. The menu is pretty basic and we would have liked to see just a little bit more variety, but we both found something appetizing to try. My wife ordered Bistec con Huevos and I ordered the Doña's Chilaquiles with carnitas added and the green sauce. We also ordered a Sweet Canela waffle to share. The waffle came out 1st and is the best sweet waffle we've found. It was delicious! It is made with a light, fluffy batter and the perfect cinnamon/sugar ratio. They top it with a vanilla cream & berries which are fantastic. The green sauce on the Doña's chilaquiles was so good and the carnitas were well seasoned, succulent, and very tender. I highly recommend adding this to the dish! All in all, a good experience and tasty food and price is about what you'd expect for a Sunday Brunch. We did not add any cocktails this time. We both ordered coffee and it was not great, plus they don't top off for you. You have to ask more coffee and they just bring you a new cup. As mentioned, I think they were a bit understaffed and service was slow and not as attentive as one would expect. But with the quality of the food, we will definitely be back to try this spot again someday.
Great for large groups. We went for brunch with 9 people out of everything ordered the Doña's Chilaquiles & Steak & Mushroom Omelette were very good! For drinks: Vaya Con Dios, Doña Margarita & Spanish Coffee were super yummy. The other items ordered: Bistec con Huevos, Los Bennys, Chorizo con Papas Burrito & Pan Frances were just average. The service & ambience were very good!
I used to love this place so much. It had some of the best veggie/vegan options for Mexican food in the county and was one of my favourite restaurants. Sadly, the menu has changed over the years. The vegetarian black beans were my favourite side dish, usually paired with a taco plate. My partner preferred them too with his chicken tinga tacos. They’ve replaced the black beans with refried pinto beans that are a lot less memorable. They also no longer serve vegetarian rice. Instead, you receive a salad that also feels like something you could get anywhere else. I still enjoy the margaritas and the Coliflor taco (the comination of veggies and flavours are delicious), but the experience feels less special than it did when we first started coming.
Got carne asada tacos meat was almost blood no flavor no onions cilantro tortilla meat rice and beans and little portions. Then got my quesabirria tacos and the meat was almost nothing but fat tried picking off the fat but couldn't and shouldn't have to and same portions.. Oh and chips were OK salsa beer were perfect. Beautiful spot for margaritas and drinks food not so much the staff is awesome great service.
