Opinions de Obi's Sushi San Diego
Sadly I cannot share with you the two lovely rolls I wolfed down for a late lunch, but it was a magical marvelous experience. Its delightful when you can taste fresh sushi and I can honestly tell you the Monster roll and the Eel roll was a perfrct combo of sweet and lightly spicy. My order was quick, checkout was quick, I sat at the bar and was in and out in 20 minutes max, so it was a great quick late lunch in a quiet restaurant. The look like they are family friendly (I dated myself today but I did see a dad pretty happy with his kid who were both enjoying themselves) so I assume they are. After some searching, I feel this may be my new sushi spot, it was absolutely delicious!
A Sushi Lover’s Dream I’ve been eating sushi for over 35 years, and I have to say—Obi’s serves some of the freshest, most flavorful sushi I’ve had in a long time. The sashimi is absolutely to die for, and the hamachi kama is perfectly prepared and delicious. If you love sushi, do yourself a favor and come to Obi’s. You won’t be disappointed.
We loved our dinner at Obi’s! We ordered the house salad with the ginger dressing. The ginger and lemon flavor was delicious, but a bit too much. The sushi was perfect! The fish was fresh, the flavors were great! Would definitely return!
Go to for sushi in the area. Good soju/sake drinks too
I went for lunch today and got the Monster roll with Two beers. Very delicious and calm quiet atmosphere. The gentleman there were very attentive and relaxed. Love it. Will come again.
Everything was amazing we went and the staff were polite and quick. I love the fact that they don't interpret the whole meal and simply respond to the calls. The sushi rolls were good size and everything tasted fresh. Would definitely recommend and will be going back.
I had a couple regular rolls during happy hour. Easily 5 stars for the price/quality and price/quantity ratios. That’s reflective of the cheaper rolls with the happy hour discount though. YMMV. It works great for me and I’ll be back!
friendly service, very accommodating, and superb ambiance!
Straight forward, good quality. You might think the fish is the most important aspect to judge good sushi, I always pay close attention to the rice. It was good quality, and cooked perfectly. Portions were adequate, sashimi was fresh and delicious. I noticed they were very busy, but we're working very hard, so have patience, it's worth it
Love their happy hour special. Rolls are big, fish is fresh, so flavor full, they are great for kids too. Love that this place is close to home & many other military families are going to love how close it is to MC. They also do military discount! Wish i could give them10 stars!
A great sushi spot I will definitely be going back to! The rolls are larger than most other places and taste great - I enjoyed the Crouching Tiger Roll, the Clover Roll, and the garlic edamame! Very well prepared, seemed like high quality. Enjoyed the atmosphere, very comfy and cozy and the service was friendly and quick. I went on a Thursday night about 90 minutes before closing and it wasn’t busy.
Love this yummy place! The kindest staff and excellent sushi options!
Tiffany was a great server, excellent, quick, and efficient! Very helpful as well!
This place is great! No matter I am here with family or friends or a date with myself.
Great place, servers and food. We come every Thursday for lunch.
You can't beat this place. We visited after being at the Del Mar Fair all day and landed just before closing time. For the price, the speed of service, and the quality of the food they can't be outdone. I make the drive from East County just to eat there. It's that good. If you want good sushi for a reasonable price, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
This was delicious sushi for my 8th time back in san Diego!!!
Had a great experience! Staff super friendly and kind! They give me great recommendations for my 1st time there.
Man I had a good time, me and my friends went to eat out after having a long day, and this place definitely hit the spot! The sushi and the food was well presented and the food itself was juice full of flavors. The oysters were great and same goes with the sushi, the service was okay and the environment was very chill and relaxing. Good place to get things off your mind. Overall this sushi place is a sure to-go while traveling around or overall a good spot to enjoy a meal, definitely coming back next time! 👍💯
This place has some of the best shrimp tempura rolls I have ever had. Everything I have eaten here is excellent. I highly recommend it. Obi's isn't that busy during winter. Obi's has a great happy hour from 4-6. 3 Dollar beers, 2 dollar large hot Saki, and 20 percent off select food items.
Wow, the hand rolls were so big I couldn't finish! Good prices great sushi quality.
Obi's is our favorite local sushi restaurant. We have never been disappointed with the food or service. We try to get something different every time. This time we tried the Tuna Tataki starter and fell in love with the wasabi dressing! There are many sushi roll options and we have been working our way through the list. The servers are very attentive. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. Obi's is a wonderful place to dine!
Found this spot when we were looking for a new sushi restaurant to try in our area (we eat and are loyal to the same ones at least once a week) and this our new favorite! So impressed with the staff and their service. Amazing space and SO clean. First thing in their menu I saw and we ordered was the scallop carpaccio - UNREAL!! And so fresh. Next we had the Obi roll (saw in their photos) and it was better than I could’ve imagined. Highly recommend this hidden gem (even though they’ve been here 10 years!?)! You won’t regret, enjoy!
I had the Shrimp Udon Noodle Soup, told the Chef's that I had a really sore throat that even salt water gargles and chloraseptic were not even stoping it, I asked them for somethin extra spicy, sooooo Here comes a little sauce Dish with lotsa Tiny Thai peppers in it, the waiter said, caaaaareful, I threw em all in, stired it a while, Yup, it was hot, I sweated nicely, aaaaand Whala, Soup Was Delicious, even without the Peppers and the Pain was gone instantly, Arigato Dudes. Really Cool Place, comin back today 4 Seconds

Relaxed, accessible, and well priced. I've been going to obi's for a couple years now and while it may not be the most premium experience it's always relaxing. The food is good, the service is swift, and in a city like San Diego having a huge parking lot is a luxury. So if you're looking for a casual experience without hassle this is the spot.
Very calm place to sit down and enjoy food with the family. Great atmosphere! Great service and excellent food! 10/10 Very recommended!
Fresh, Flavorful, and Fantastic! Obi’s Sushi is a hidden gem in San Diego that delivers an exceptional dining experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and the service was attentive without being overbearing. The sushi is incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. Each roll was crafted with care, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or just diving into Japanese cuisine, Obi’s offers something for everyone. This spot is a must-visit for anyone craving top-tier sushi in a relaxed and welcoming setting. I’ll definitely be
All of the food was very fresh and delicious with very fresh ingredients. The service was quick and courteous. We really enjoyed the philly rolls and cream cheese wontons. The chicken katsu curry udon was one of the best I have tasted since my time living in Japan. All of the fresh vegetables in the broth was a welcome surprise. I look forward to bringing my family here again very soon. Thank you! ありがと御座います!
Went on a whim with a few friends while nearby. Friday night at 6:30 and was seated immediately. There is a “call” button on the table which took us a second to realize. The restaurant is somewhat small and voices carry - but after a few pitchers of Sapporo, less seemed to matter. We ordered 4 rolls and 2 entrees for the table to share. Price seemed a little high, but after the first few bites it was well worth it. The restaurant has a family-owned vibe and felt pretty authentic. Would definitely come back, perhaps for lunch specials.
The sushi was fantastic. The pieces were big and full of flavor. They have a lot of different rolls and other tasty items on the menu if you don’t want sushi. The service was fast and attentive. The restaurant was clean and inviting.

First off, the food is delicious and the staff is always polite and accommodating. We've been going to Obi's since we moved here over 3 years ago. The food has always been delicious and affordable so it was our go-to date night meal. Unfortunately our recent meal was over $20 more than it used to be and when I looked, the prices of all the items went up a good amount. I'm sure this is a result of the current economy which is completely understandable but that means we can no longer afford to dine on a regular basis. We're pretty bummed because we love it but with the cost of living constantly increasing, it's not affordable for us anymore. Hopefully their prices return closer to normal at some point so we can eat here frequently again. It's still a great place to eat if you can afford to pay a little more.
We love Obi and visit quite often. The food and service is always great. However I think the restaurant could be greatly improved with some more thought put into the atmosphere, particularly of the main dining room. The bar area is much more welcoming/ fun/ cozy atmosphere and it would be nice to see that carried through out. I think it would really increase their business
Apparently Obi's Sushi is the "got to" place for professional get-togethers. I personally thought the food was delicious but a little over priced for what you get. The sushi roll that came with my bento box was a mini version of what I usually receive at other restaurants. The miso soup was yummy along with the other side dishes I received with my bento. The ambiance was nice but the customer service was lacking. Our server rarely came to check on us. On several occasions, I had to get up to ask for her assistance. When I got up, I saw all the workers sitting at a table texting and on their phones. They looked a little surprised when they saw me. We were literally the only customers in the restaurant so I guess that's why. I found this a little funny and understandable since no one else was around. On the other hand, the parking was great. You will not struggle with that here. My overall first hand experience was good but I was hoping it would be great!
Good sushi, great service & comfortable vibe. A bit pricier than I'd normally spend but it's definitely quality, so at least it's nearly worth it. I know the inflation is hitting small businesses hard, so I'm not going to be too harsh on price. Update December 2024: essentially the same, so points for consistency!

Food was delicious but serving was so bad. We ate lunch special, that was so cheap but after that we were full. Maybe that's why servers never come to our table, they asked to everybody, " how is everything etc." But they never ask us, they even forgot to give our chopsticks... I think this behavior is so rude, it is a kinda discrimination...
We ordered takeout. The service was quick. We loved our vegetable tempura...the dipping sauce was perfect. I’m sad to say that both of our sushi rolls tasted like they were a day old even though my husband watched them put them together. We had a few bites, but didn’t finish them.
I really like their Obi roll, but the steamed chicken gyoza were really disappointing… it is a bit pricey, but they have happy hours Monday thru Thursday 4-6pm
I came here for the first time. The service , food and atmosphere in the restaurant was ok.

Got the samurai plate and a friend had the shogun plate. Nigiri and the sashimi tasted like a rubber glove, got him and I sick within an hour. Wasabi was obviously reconstituted, had no flavor and was grainy. The California and spicy tuna rolls were mediocre at best. The only good thing was that fried salmon skin hand roll, which was quite good. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place.

The sushi was good, but the prices were extremely high. They barely put any spicy mayo or eel sauce on the rolls, yet still wanted to charge $1 extra for each. There was almost none on my roll to begin with, which was disappointing. There’s plenty of indoor seating, and it wasn’t very busy during lunch, which was nice. Just make sure to bring cash or a physical card—they don’t accept tap-to-pay.

A few hours ago came to eat with my family, it was my first time eating here. The food was ok, the environment was the same. What I did not like was the calamari appetizer, they looked just like onion rings. I would not recommend it. We ordered about 6 different rolls because it was 6 of us. The service was bad. We had a lot of empty plates at our table. They never came for a single plate, until we got up leave they started coming with their cart. The worst of all is the bill. I split the bill and what noticed when I got home was that they charged both of us 6.97 extra . I summed it up and I don’t see on the bill why they charged up extra. I don’t mind nor am I stingy with my food and bills but if your going to charge me, please do it right. ALSO….they automatically charged us an 18% hidden service charge. Usually when I go out to eat they let me know but this time they just handed us the bill and maybe thought that we weren’t going to see it. Hopefully the manager gets to see this, because I would like to discuss about the extra charge. I will upload my bill so whoever reads my comment can sum it up if they are curious.
So much regret while eating this. So hard to eat. Look at the sushi. It's so much worse than grocery store. salad has this terrible dressing on top. chicken is so dry and tough. by principle, i only give one star when it's inedible or something with service, but it was just so hard to finish.
