Opinions de The Lion's Share San Diego
Great meal with optional “exotic” meats. The standout dishes for use was the salt & pepper frog legs, bison steak tartare, and the bone in elk chops. We also had the venison sliders, which were juicy, but it needed less bun. The chops were very tender and there was plenty of sauce to accompany with the meat. Overall a great meal and we left exceptionally full.
We celebrated a birthday at the Lion's Share and had a very nice experience. First of all, they acknowledged the birthday right when we walked in. We ordered a couple of cocktails, and they were some of the most interesting and fun drinks we've had. My favorite was the Cheetos Fingers. We ordered the onion rings, which were good, but they didn't come with the raspberry jam as advertised on the menu. The Boar Bolognese and the burger were also pretty good, but definitely not the best I've had. I would give this restaurant a 4.5 because the service was really good and the cocktails made up for the shortcomings with the food.
Our experience was incredible. We’ve been eyeing this restaurant for quite a while. As meat lovers, we knew this would be a good menu for us. Their cocktails were amazing as well. We got the espresso martini, old fashioned, and their signature buffalo stamp which was a whiskey ginger drink. I got the Wagyu Fritas and my husband got the Duck and Rabbit. Our server David was phenomenal. Highly recommend this quaint and wonderful restaurant. Amazing atmosphere too!
We were in town this week and wanted to check out what was around our hotel. We stumbled across The Lion’s Share and fell in love with the art, atmosphere, calm lighting and vibe. We loved the intense menu filled with a wide variety of game and flavors. Hats off to the chef, staff and management.
Good food n drinks with a quirky ambience. We loved everything we tried here on the 30th of December as we had just landed in San Diego that evening and wanted to eat out. However, we did found the place a bit expensive for our liking. Maybe they had a special menu for that week but if you are comfortable spending $25 to $40 for a main and $12 to $20 for a drink, then u'll love this place.
Envigorating and thoughtful dinner and cocktail menu. Accessible gastronomy. Likely the best spot within a stone's throw of the embarcadero hotels.
Real great drinks, interesting dishes with great variety and creativity. Good flavours and excellent staff. I ordered a bunch of dishes, including the elk loin, rabbit hen pie, the mushroom trio, and cauliflower. Flavours were on point and not over seasoned, really allowing the ingredients to shine through. Eclectic mix of drinks and cocktails. Would definitely go again.
Although the Lion's Share has been there for 12 years, I only just discovered it, and a very happy discovery it was! The food was delicious, with an emphasis on game like elk, boar, camel, bison and duck, was delicious. The duck breast was served with huitlacoche, which is too rarely served in American restaurants. My friend had the burger from the happy hour menu. Very nice burger! I had the roast oysters with curry and the duck, followed by the Panna cotta with rhubarb, which is one of the best Panna cotta I've ever had! Highly recommended!
Best meal I had in a while! Get the Brussels Sprouts app. Also, the lamb and short ribs entrees are a whole out of body experience in flavor. The plaintain bread pudding also followed suit. However, very pricey! Be prepared to spend north of $100 per person if you get app, entree, drink and dessert. Worth it for a special occasion.
This is now my all time favorite restaurant!! Everything far exceeded my expectations. I live in LA and haven’t experienced anything half as good in terms of food, service, everything. Every single dish & drink our waiter suggested SMACKED! Highly recommend the duck as your main. The menu listed mushrooms as one of the ingredients and I told our waiter (whose name I forgot, he was covered in tattoos) that I love duck but hate mushrooms and he promised I’d still love the dish and he was right!!! As for drinks, I told our waiter I was looking for something with vodka that was fruity- he suggested “what dreams are made of” an off menu cocktail and wow….. 🤤. Perfect name for that drink because it was the best I’ve ever had. Also, their happy hour is amazing! Omg I wouldn’t shut up about how much I loved this place I think I started to annoy my friend. I can’t wait to go back. I just wish I could find a place this good in LA.
One of my top 5 places of all time. Speak Easy atmosphere backed up with fantastic flavors of craft cocktails and food! Cheese plate to start w/drinks, roasted beets (just do it), then elk chops FTW!
I will be honest to say that, based on past reviews, I was a bit skeptical of this restaurant; however, I was not disappointed one bit. The frog legs (4) were very delicious, above any restaurant I've ever experienced. The elk steak was also very pleasingly tasty. The mashed potatoes, with a seemingly signature gravy, and truffle fries didn't disappoint either. Please excuse my photos. The chef's presentation looked far better before I dug into the plate. I began making a share plate prior to the photos. LoL
I truly wish I could give this restaurant six stars. Or more. Definitely my favorite experience in San Diego, and an overall gem. The dinner was flawless, from the amazing food (antelope skewers and elk with wildboar pancetta - both great), to the extremely nice waitress, to the decor and the overall atmosphere. The care and thought that went into creating this restaurant is apparent, and the results speak for themselves. I basically took pictures of the entire menu. An absolute must if you're ever in town. Bravo to whoever created this place.
I agree with the $$-$$$ costing from other reviews. We had a small party of 5 and we very much enjoyed ourselves. Fun drinks, make sure someone in your party orders a absinthe drink off the menu as it has some assembly required. I say a 4.5 and would be a 5 if we had faster service. We waited on drinks multiple times, could also be we drink too fast. That said, the staff was very nice and fun. If you are having dinner party make reservations, they fill up fast. We all ordered something different and had a handful of appetizers (get a FF, they fry them to perfection). They have a great deal on the burger and beer (took a bite of my friends burger and it was amazing). Enjoy and build memories.
Dined here solo last night. Food was outstanding. Very meat centric so maybe don't bring your vegetarian friends. I sat at the bar and was taken care of by an absolute gentleman by the name of Dawson. Yes, like the Creek, he said. Dining solo can be tricky. You don't want to order too much but also don't want to leave hungry with just a small app. Dawson was very helpful in finding the right balance. I had the Bison tartare (his recommendation) and Venison sliders, both delicious! Cocktails run the gamut from riffs on classics to more experimental. From the general feedback from the bar guests, it seems like you can't go wrong. They also have a full back bar so if nothing strikes your fancy, they were happy to make a classic cocktail for you. The vibe is pretty great. Lots of taxidermy on the dark wood stained walls. The whole bar team was very attentive and easygoing. It can be rare to find that excellent balance in hospitality, but it was in abundance at The Lion's Share.
I have barely finished my meal and I’m here for a review. This might be my favorite restaurant. Everything was amazing. Here’s what I got: Drink: Bound by Blood Apps: Brussels Sprouts, Oysters, Burrata, Wagyu Fat Fries Main: Bolognese (also tried the Duck Confit). When I think of what a perfect restaurant could be, this is what I’ve always imagined. I am happy it exists. Eagerly waiting for dessert.
it’s so hard to find a place that has delicious food *and* scrumptious drinks. lions share hits the spot. perfect for (exotic/gamey) meat lovers and cocktail aficionados. one of the only places i can find that has foie, please lmk if you know of any others! and i just learned on my last visit you can purchase prints of their artwork displayed so we snagged one.
What a great restaurant. The food and drinks were absolutely amazing—everything was flavorful and well-crafted. The service was top notch, super friendly and attentive. The decor and overall vibe of the place are spot on—dark, cozy, and unique with a wild twist. It quickly became one of my favorite spots in San Diego. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!
My wife and I were visiting from NorCal and made a list of places to try while visiting friends, luckily The Lion's Share was on the list because it turned out to already be one of my friend's favorite places. The Hazy IPA was delicious, the bone marrow and bison tartare was fantastic, the burger was juicy, and I think the tacos were my personal favorite!
Incredible food! We stopped in for happy hour on a Friday afternoon. This place is swanky. They offer exotic meat options, tons of fresh seasonal dishes, and fun drinks. We ordered the bruschetta, arugula salad, French onion soup, and the brisket fries. I literally don’t have a single negative comment. Our waitress was attentive, refilled our waters often, and the food came out quickly. Everything was full of flavor and clearly the menu is mindfully created. I can’t wait to come back to San Diego so we can eat here again!
Awesome food, especially if you are into trying "new" (and "exotic") dishes. Great preparations (perfect frying), amazing combination (bison & yellowtail tartare), surprising flavors (red curry & black lentils), etc.. Crafty cocktails, classics & new surprises. Anyways, come try this place out, you won't be disappointed. Best of all, it opens LATE! Fully dinner menu till 11pm, reduced lists till 1am (oysters, burgers, etc... still plenty to eat).
This place has a cool eccentric dark vibe with interesting art on the walls a wood cabin feel. The food was wonderful. We shared a Sausage trio with Buffalo, Wild Boar, and Rabbit. The Buffalo was my favorite, but all three were great. In addition we had Antelope Sliders they were so tender and exceptionally tastey. Our third an final order was Deer Tacos and these were top notch. The meat melted in your mouth and was flavored to near perfection.
Came here to celebrate my birthday and what a unique restaurant! The vibe alone has its own character and the food definitely was different. First time seeing such a menu full of different types of meats. The food was good and their drinks were excellent! The service was wonderful. We came in without a reservation and were seated immediately on a Sunday night despite it being a small restaurant. Have to mention their real flower centerpieces, that to me is always a favorite feature of a restaurant.
My new favorite place in San Diego!!!! This amazing place checks all the boxes! Ambiance is super chic with hilarious renditions of classic paintings. “Future Classics” for cocktails is cutting edge and extremely well manicured. And the menu. Well this simply speaks for itself. Get the elk flank. Get the elk flank. Did I say? Get the elk flank! Sat at the bar and service was top notch. Really wish I had more days in town to try the entire menu but I will be back. What an amazing restaurant!
A unique vibe to pair with a unique menu. Slightly dark and a bit small, but extremely welcoming. We snagged a last minute reservation for dinner on a Thursday here, and were very impressed. Started with excellent cocktails, moved on to the oysters, brussel sprouts (amazing), and the wild game burger. Get it with the braised boar and the egg on top, you won’t be disappointed! We will definitely come back, I haven’t heard many people recommend this spot, but will be sure to in the future.
Fantastic experience! The drinks and the food were great but even better was the service. Chrysta really took her time to answer all our questions and take care of us during our meal.
Foods great here, drinks and atmosphere even better. We can with a group of 16 (two tables of 8). Drinks you can’t go wrong, for food I’d recommend the burger, tacos and Bolognese.
Well executed concept that fills it's niche brilliantly. Meats of all kinds are the stars of the menu here, and were more savory and less gamey than I would have expected. Boar, elk, duck, frog, Buffalo, antelope and even camel are available here. Really loved the house made sausage board here. Buffalo tartar had me really skeptical but was a star of the show. Boar sliders were just OK and on the salty side. Both the duck and elk entrées were cooked to perfection and had well thought out flavors and vegetable ensembles that complemented the meats. The tls burger was unique and savory, and the truffle fries were super addictive. Extensive cocktail menu was pricey but the drinks were very well made. Love the not too serious decor that leaned in to it's off beat aesthetic too.
Did not eat there can not comment on food. But the drinks selection was very good. Asked to make a couple different cocktails all were spot on or better then we expected.
My friend came to San Diego from out of town and we decided to try this hotspot in downtown San Diego. We sat outside because the evening felt so warm and delicious! This spot has a unique vibe and the dishes are eclectic. We decided to try a few different dishes and I’m glad we did. We enjoyed the sliders that were smoky flavored and yummy, we had the pate which was interesting and delicious, and we had the Bolognese which was by far the best bolognese I’ve had. We had some cocktails and my favorite that the kind bartender made especially for me was a clover club. And she made it perfectly. I feel privileged to live in San Diego and have such a fine restaurant in my hometown. You gotta try this hotspot!
Finally a spot that serves good food late at night! We were referred here by our bartender, John from Seven Grand. The cocktails were on point, and the food was interesting and delicious. The crudo with shrimp and bison, amazing! Frog legs were good, even better paired with the vinegar sauce from the crudo. Bolognese was a bit too salty, but worked with a bitter cocktail paired with it.
This is now my go-to place!!! Amazing menu, very unique game. Get the duck breast!!! Better than anywhere in France. Happy hour menu great. True mixology bartenders, infusions mixed fresh daily. Truffle fries and tacos for happy hour! Prices great for such exquisite cuisine. Chef is VERY present. Not stuffy, very inviting atmosphere Beautiful ambience, eclectic art decor. Open until 0200 every day?! What's not to love! Excellent cigar/smoke shop next door.
What an amazing dinner. I did not have very high expectations, but what a surprise this restaurant absolutely exceeded them. Everything was great there. All cocktails were great, and the food from appetizers to main courses were delicious. This place is definitely lucky to have a chef like this. I can definitely recommend this place. Two thumbs up!!!
Stop scrolling, you've found the right place. This restaurant delivers on every front. The food is exceptionally delicious, showcasing high-quality ingredients with every dish. The staff and the owner exude warmth and hospitality, making the dining experience even more pleasant. We tried the burger, crispy shallots, truffle fries, chicken with risotto, and chocolate budino—all of which were excellent. My husband ranks their burger as the best he's ever had. I cleared my plate. The drinks were also made with care. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy, clean, and fun, creating an inviting and comfortable space. Highly recommended.
We initially came here to try out the exotic meats which didn't disappoint. The elk chops were prepared well and the wild boar pasta hit all the right notes. The unique art pieces on the wall added to the ambiance. There are also umami cocktails for the more ambitious. On the next day, we had a reservation at a different restaurant for our anniversary, but they seated us at the worst seat in the restaurant and service was lukewarm. We decided to come back to The Lion's Share where our host and server Valerie took exceptional care of us. Next time, we'll just book reservations here instead.
Incredible experience. The food was 11/10, the atmosphere is very unique, and the service is fantastic. We did not come for happy hour, but the happy hour menu looked very fairly priced and a good selection of drinks/good. We will come again next time we are in SD
An excellent intimate date night! The food is outstanding with incredible service. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted and jam packed with flavor. I honestly can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. But I highly recommend the frog legs!
Born & Raised is the ultimate steakhouse experience in San Diego—elegant rooftop vibes with killer city views and dry-aged steaks that melt in your mouth. The bone-in ribeye was perfectly charred with that rich, beefy flavor, and the table-side Caesar salad and lobster mac were indulgent highlights. Cocktails are top-notch, service is polished, and the art deco interior feels luxurious. A splurge worth every penny for celebrations!
This was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. From the service to the atmosphere to the amazing food/cocktails, we had a wonderful date night. We had the bison tartar and wagyu cheek tacos and they were excellent. We finished our meal with some of the best bread pudding I have ever had. I am sad that we live all the way across the country and can’t come here regularly! Finally, the team was so wonderful about my tree nut allergy. The waiter Google searched the items of a cocktail to make sure nothing was made with nuts and sent our bread pudding back before even bringing it out because it had pecans on it. I can’t say enough great things about The Lion’s Share! 10/10 would recommend!
Never expected to be blown away by EVERY DISH we ordered. At 1st we were very reluctant that we would find something we would like because we aren't into all the gamey meats they had.... BUT my goodness, everything was perfect!!! Or "fireeee" as my picky husband said! The Baja Fresh Oyster appetizer was delicious! The flavoring was bright and fresh, it had all the flavor profiles to tantalize my taste buds, I could've eaten 2 doz!!! The Patatas Bravas scallops appetizer was also a hit as it was cooked to perfection. The sauce paired so well with it, my plate was wiped clean. Make sure to also get the tacos de lengua!!! The meat was tender but not too rich, and the salsa complimented the well seasoned meat even my 1 year old son was saying, "Mmmm!!!" Hubby had the Our burger which was cooked perfectly. Every bite left u craving for more... n that says a lot when youre just eating a burger. Also, the bread pudding was delectable!!!! This place is a 10/10 and far exceeded all of our expectations!!! Make this place a must try if you're around the area!! Service was great too! Soo happy to have celebrated my son's 1st birthday here!!!!!
If you want to have the best cocktails in all of San Diego, go here. I had a cocktail with gin, chili, and katsuobishi. Incredible depth of flavor. Smoked sea salt garnish. Photograph below. I had a tequila reposado with honey, and espresso, their take on an espresso martini. I forget the other elements of the drink but it was delicious. I finished with a cocktail called Fat Boy Summer. By this time, I was feeling good and can’t recall the ingredients. But, again. Delicious. The atmosphere is swanky, moody and intimate. Talented and professional bartenders. I spent $62 for 3 cocktails- worth every penny. I’ll definitely be back.
The 6 of us shared an exquisite dining experience that we will never forget. You can't pick wrong on this menu and the cozy atmosphere is perfect! From the cocktails, to appetizers and whichever side of the main course list you choose from, you'll leave only wanting to come back. The staff were kind and enjoying the evening with us and I wish we had 2 more people with us so we could order everything we didn't. We did have the roasted beets, bison tartare, venison sliders, steak frittes, the hunter's chicken, the fish (halibut), Our burger, wild burger, boar bolognese and many cocktails. Close your eyes, point at something on the menu and enjoy!
Everything was amazing! The server even remembered my query on the duck dish (which used to be served and displayed on the menu as "Duck and Rabbit"), and circled back to inform me that it's still part of the dish. The sauce was a bit too tart and thick for my licking and I would've preferred a lighter sauce. The bison tartare and bone marrow was simply amazing. No hint of gameyness in any of these meats. Buttered martini was a hit, too. Also a fan of the decor which keeps faithful to the theme of exotic meats.
My friend found this place and made reservations for 7 for my birthday. The food was amazing and the drinks were too. We got the sliders, frog legs, broccolini, Bolognese, Burger and beets and everyone loved everything. My young daughter was with us and they gave her a basket of small toy animals to play with which was helpful because it's definitely an adult dinner place. It is a bit loud so it was hard for everyone to talk and hear but we all enjoyed the food, drinks and atmosphere so much.
This is the reason why SD is becoming a food destination. You may not be able to tell thru the name but they are all about game meats. The seating is bifurcated by a dark candle lit bar area and a dining room with taxidermy and trophy game heads. Although the dining room is small, it appropriately made for dates and small groups. But the food was incredible. Highlights include the Bolognese, Bison Tartare, and Vinson Chops. Skip the burger, it’s too bready and there’s just better options on the menu. The presentation and details in the preparation is what makes it a great experience. Highly recommended and definitely coming back.
If you’re looking for one of the best bar/restaurants in San Diego, this is it. Everything we ordered was delicious, but let’s not beat around the bush—the Bison Tartare absolutely stole the spotlight. Like, full standing ovation. Service was solid across the board, the vibe was effortlessly cool without trying too hard (which is rare), and the whole experience felt like finding a secret level in the San Diego dining scene. Great food, great drinks, great energy—what more do you want, a medal? Just go.
I came for Happy Hour and had an amazing experience! It was really fun to taste a bunch of appetizers lots of exotic meat. The drinks were really good. It’s pretty pricey so this would definitely be a special experience. This is a really popular place so you wanna go during happy hour or make a reservation well in advance the service was great and the atmosphere was really fun. I’ll definitely come again. ***came back a second time and was even better than the first! New items were fantastic! Try the bison tartar!!!!!! Frog legs and beet salad were also top-notch!
We enjoyed our team dinner here. The food is well cooked and there are many interesting options. We trying frog legs 🦵. Yum 😋 The drinks are strong but a bit weird. I am all for crafty cocktails but they were a bit too crafty. The atmosphere is amazing, dark moody with so many unique decorations. Service is quick and very attentive. Highly recommend, just make sure you have a reservation because they are very busy.
Went today September 17 2024 by myself for happy hour. The nicest hostess ever. She gave me a lovely table and I ordered the tacos and a vodka mule. I skipped the sausage not because it was camel but it had smoked Gouda cheese in it and I’m not a fan. I wanted a burger but skipped that since it came with a beer and I was not feeling beer. The decor is an electic mix and the place by 615p was getting full. The tacos were delicious and I enjoyed the mule. I took a small bite of the candied finer garnish just too harsh tasting. Close to my Hyatt hotel and fun to eat alone I was fine. Next time I will try dinner
Interesting concept with rare game options on the meat menu. Went safe for this occasion but every dish was top notch. Ain't gonna lie but the tacos were the best I've ever had in my life - the most tender and melt-in-your-mouth meat ever. The sticky toffee bread pudding was phenomenal as well. Will definitely go back on my next visit to San Diego!

5+ stars for the cocktails 5 stars for musical playlist and ambiance 4 stars for food Socially distanced dine-in is available here - which makes me happy since I love the vibe here - great music, quality food and drink without the pretentiousness. Every single cocktail I’ve had here is well-balanced, not overly sweet or trying too hard but still inventive and adventure for your palette. The food is mostly a hit with a couple misses. The charcuterie board is a fun adventure of different animal cured meats and cheeses. The wild boar bolognese is excellent as are the antelope sliders. The duck two ways was a miss since the buckwheat crepe was hard and the duck confit mixture inside was a bit dry. Ask your waiters though and they will guide you to the good stuff.
There is a whole like to like about this place. It's got a great vibe going on and the décor invites you to linger a while. I think the menu is pretty good. But I couldn't tell, it was pretty dark inside. The Negroni I had was excellent, it had a great flavor. Not sure what the vermouth was that they used that made it yummy, it was pretty dark inside. Had the crab and tomato salad - very good, and the rabbit with dumplings was pretty good also. The rabbit was great, yet the dumplings - gnocchi, were just a little too mushy. The textures just didn't work for me. There were these little crispy bits that were awesome though yet I couldn't tell what what they were - it was too dark:) The soundtrack is worth having another Negroni for!
No wait. Staff was very friendly! Music and vibe is great for the area. Great for those who love jazz and a dim classy bar. Long time local favorite. Got the wrong order for wine, didn’t send back. Wine was great. My only gripe is that I think it’s important for a patron who’s never tried certain foods to enjoy the experience. If you don’t eat raw food but willing try it at medium well, chef shouldn’t insist on rare. We didn’t send food back but what it does is it prevents people from ordering more exotic items or plates that don’t come standard, in the future. Other than that..Portions were great but more or less not served with a side and best to share in order to try different meats.
Overall good service, great atmosphere, great menu. Bathroom was dirty and certainly underwhelming. Bison poutine super tasty but had to search for any meat. Boar bolegnese was amazing and the make their own pasta in house. Bread pudding was a flop. Super dry, didn't soak the bread long enough, had almost no flavor in the middle. Cooked too long at too low a temp so didn't get the crust on top and the almost gooey center.
It was my first time here tonight. The hostess was very helpful and friendly. She helped 4 of us to seat inside after 20 minutes waiting(sat in the bar). I highly recommend making a reservation for this place especially if you want to be seated inside. The food was overall great. For the drinks, I ordered Barbara Streisand it was quite tasty and tarty. I’m giving four stars because of the server. He forgot the drinks, he had weird attitude towards a question and he made a mistake on our check. I guess he wasn’t having a good day. Anyway, great music and great atmosphere. Definitely coming back.
I've been wanting to go here for two years and I finally got to come here last night. I love the location, lots of parking and not in the busy area of downtown. We walked past it a few times before we found the door lol. Tricky little place to find but I think that's cause it was raining and the outside area was closed. First impression, warm and cozy on the inside. Lights are dim. Lots of amazing artwork on the walls. I couldn't help but walk around and look at it all. Food menu is small & so is the happy hour menu. Lots of drinks though! So if you're looking for a yummy drink menu, you found your spot. We started with the tartare, the chips made this dish. They were flavorful and the perfect pairing for the tartare. The tartare on its own was yummy but much better with the chips. The wagyu cheek tacos were okay. Wouldn't get again. Too many different flavors going on. The Brussel sprouts were outstanding. Easily one of the best things I've ever eaten. The fried chicken skin was odd but oh my god did it work. The scallops were underwhelming, cooked perfectly but the lentils & sauce were okay. service was good throughout, they are quick to pick up plates and helpful throughout the dining experience. I'd come back for the drinks and the Brussels!
Loved the atmosphere, the decor, the food, and the music selection. Deducting a star because it’s the only way I have to fight back against the trend for overly loud music in restaurants. I’m really not that old but I don’t enjoy having to shout at my date to be heard. Couldn’t hear half of what the server said. Otherwise, loved it! Venison sliders were spot on, boar bolognese and hunters chicken were delicious, and my wife said the cocktails were well done.
Had frogs legs and bison tartare. The tartare was really good! The frogs legs had a lot of fried coating. Truffle fries were delicious but relatively small portions. Really liked the blackberry cider. My friends enjoyed their 'full time lover' cocktail. A little noisy but loved the art.
I wanted to find an unique place for a nice dinner. This place has met my expectations. The decor and ambiance were elegant and fun. The menu is simple. We were not hungry so we got two dishes to share. The bison tartare was served on a bed of mashed potatoes and bone marrow. The flavor was great and it was good on the roasted sourdough bread. We also ordered elk chops. When it first came out, it wasn’t hot. It seems like it’s been sitting on the counter for a bit. It tasted more like medium instead of medium rare. We spoke to the waiter about it and he immediately offered to make us another one. When the new one came out, it was steaming hot and it’s medium rare like what we expected. The sauce was a bit too salty for my taste. I wasn’t a fan of corn gnocchi (i think). I was too full so I didn’t get to try their bread pudding but it sounded amazing. Overall, the service was great. The price was a bit expensive but not too expensive for the kind of food you get.
Pretty cool spot for a quick drink. Everyone was friendly and attentive. We ordered some type of bone marrow that was pretty good also.
If you like unique food and even more unique vibes, this spot's a must. Dark, moody lighting, taxidermy on the walls -- it's giving adventurous and classy at the same time.\n\nCame for happy hour (…

Five of us went here after seeing a show at the SD Civic Theatre. We noted the close location and high Google reviews so we decided to try it out. We loved the decor and vibe of the restaurant. Music was loud, but they do have a bar here and it was also 11pm. Hostess wasn't friendly and sat us at the high top table furthest from the bar. Our server (David), looked like a one man show and was the only one we saw running food and taking orders (without writing the order down), so we'll let him slide for not making contact with us for over 15 minutes. We started with the cold smoked burrata. The four slices of pears were thin like tissue paper and the burrata was mozzarella. Burrata should be soft and spreadable, filled with cream and cheese curds. We would have been fine with mozzarella, but don't call it burrata, when it ain't. Entrees: we asked what "other meat" was mixed in with the wagyu in the, "Our Burger". David told us the burger was 80% wagyu (unknown what kind) and the rest is ground beef. He recommended a cook of no more that medium to keep a juicy burger. 3 of us ordered, Our Burger. The patty was room temp, patty was dry and flavorless. 75% of the fries on each plate, were no larger than 1/2 inch....fry crumbs, although the fries tasted good. One person ordered the Wagyu steak frites, medium-well. When it came, the steak was pre-cut and the cook was inconsistent. She ate the end pieces and the red/bloody center, she took to-go and said she'd cook it to medium-well for a meal the next day. One person ordered the "Wild Style" burger. We were talking about how dry our burgers were and he looked inside his burger and noted he had no bacon jam, bbq sauce or crispy shallots. He was given an "Our Burger" like the other 3 of us. He brought this to David's attention and David brought out a small side of bacon jam for him (no, there was no compensation). The meal and unfriendly service was so disappointing that none of us wanted to chance it and be further disappointed by even trying a dessert. I wouldn't bother coming here to eat anything, but It's a cool atmosphere to have a drink. We won't be returning.
Oh, how we wanted to love this place! The art on the walls and the deep, rich, dark moodiness of the interior amuse and enchant almost as much as the possibilities outlined in the rustic type sheet menu. Sadly, this is where things turn. Fussing with dried florals in a tiny vase and arranging napkin-rolled tableware takes minutes and minutes, then your table is ready. Menus are dropped onto wooden tables, the employees walking away quickly to return with water you'll pour yourself, and your wine you'll pour yourself after that first sip. The menu is confusing, with no apparent separation between any courses listed on the single paper page. Ask questions and you'll receive answers, express allergic concerns and you'll be redirected rather than accommodated, even as the menu prompts you to mention any allergies. The foods are presented mostly pretty well, and in the case especially of the charcuterie board, they are identified so you'll know what you're looking at or tasting. For dinner this visit we tried the bison ribeye with peppercorns. It was all right, flavorful, but as the employee assisting us warned, it certainly did have a fair amount of fat, but even more of gristle. We all ended up embarrassingly needing to expel said inedible material as discretely as possible. The wine choices were good, cocktail list interesting. The two listed desserts seemed like a good idea, and we tried both, but found them mysteriously shrouded beneath an irregular mound of whipped cream and or nuts or oats or something. And surprisingly, absolutely positively no coffee of any kind was available. This we all found shocking, but they did have port, so that was our condolence beverage. Ah well. What had we expected that we didn't get? Why not four or five stars? Because frankly, while the decor was five star, everything else was lesser than. From our arrival and throughout the meal we felt like we were annoying the staff by being customers. A previous visit had already gotten us chafed when we'd asked for salt, which is not on the tables, so we knew to behave ourselves and not be demanding, so what was it? An off night? An attitude to go with the carnivorous nature of the place, with free snarls? Perhaps. Again, what was it? Feeling unwelcome probably went a long way toward the rating. Having a confusing menu. Presenting customers with a fine dining experience and not especially providing one. Missing an opportunity to offer simple, fresh, uncomplicated desserts. Not having coffee. Possibly most of all, that fussing with the placement of table items, it was energy that should have been spent on smiling at patrons, pouring their beverages, taking time to explain the menu since its listings were so ambiguous. Those things. Would we return? Absolutely. We know any place can have some stories going on in the background that will affect diner experiences. We understand. With that understanding, we look forward with hope on our next visit.
Man, rough one here. The cocktails are absolutely fabulous. The decor is warm, inviting and wildly creative - we loved walking around looking at the various paintings. Super cool. The service left a lot to be desired - at least on the Friday evening we were there. The bartenders were robotic at best, making awesome drinks but with surprisingly flat personalities. Also, though there were three bartenders working and not even a full barload of people to attend to, not a single one checked in with us the entire time we were eating our meal… which turned out gravely for me. Most of the food was delicious! The scallops I ordered, however, were served unpleasantly undercooked. All six were still grey and mushy inside… but because no one even looked over at us, I was forced to either suffer through or not eat my entrée… and as it turned out, I got violently ill from them. I will likely try again next time we are down in the city, but with a great deal of caution about what I order, and with high hopes for a far better service experience.

Dont waste ur time .Ordered the street tacos for appetizers worst tacos i have ever had.frog legs where little tiny bite x4 for 20bucks tasted good but what a tease. Ordered the elks chops for $47 was over cooked and chewy really disappointed.
Cool place but their happy hour menu online isn't updated. Service was pretty good. Drinks were very good. Bathrooms were messed up looking 👀 Tables and chairs are cool. If you like sitting at the bar then you probably need to have less than 4 people. They were packed at the bar at 530ish-pm on a Wednesday.
horrible service. booked a table for 4th of july a week ahead. less than an hour before the reservation, when we're all ready to go, they call and say oops we don't have a table for you. he didn't …

This is not a restaurant for those who don't care for "try something new." I wasn't happy with that taste or texture of the food. The restaurant was dark and kind of spooky with the stuffed animals and animals head hanging. It took forever for them to take our order. We wanted to try a few drinks, but it took so long for the waiter to come back with them that we just canceled them and paid for the food and drinks that we consumed. When we got the receipt, the drinks that never made it to us were on the bill. When we told them, they said because the bar already made them.
Service was awful. You can go to any hip trendy place in San Diego and get fantastic service - but take this place off your. Its first come first serve eith the bar, which is totally fine with us - especially because we only had 4 people there at the time (were waiting for 3 more people, but the bar was empty). We go to order drinks, and the bartender legit ROLLED HIS EYES at us, and was rude and dismissive. Like... we had only sat down, is this a joke? He seemed like he was the manager because he kept going to the front to help sit people, then to the back behind the bar to make drinks. and maybe he was having a bad night but I was honestly shocked. Then there was a food runner whos attitude was honestly disgusting. You all work in the service industry. You all should know better. This place isn't cheap, and you're going to make some good tips off of just 4 drinks - yet you have the audacity to treat customers with zero respect? Honestly, you all are what make me hate this tipping culture. You're lucky I wasnt paying the tab because I wouldn't have given you a cent. Spend your hard earned money somewhere with better service. These people will take one look at you, decide youre not worth their time, and treat you like trash.
